Sandpiper Inn in Richmondshire

We were accomodated at very short notice and enjoyed a lovely evening and great food. I had the braised beef cheek, which I cannot praise highly enough, melted in your mouth. Followed by bramble and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. A special thanks to all of the staff who were so helpful. We will be back.

Excellent quality food, well presented. It was quiet midweek but is a very pleasant place to eat a special meal. Decent selection of wine.

First class Service, cleanliness, menu, choice, quality of the food, great care and attention was taken and it was appreciated. X

I can't fault it. Gorgeous fishcakes with aioli and lovely big fat chips. Delightful chocolat mousse with melt in the mouth meringue.

We went to the sandpiper after arriving in Leyburn for the weekend, expecting a good but unexceptional meal given that we had booked another, higher profile restaurant for the following evening. We were very pleasantly surprised! They have an imaginative and well thought out menu, which was executed brilliantly. Could not fault any of the dishes we had, with special mention going out to the pheasant and pressed lamb mains, and the blackcurrant delice pudding. Will certainly return any time I’m in the area.

There has been a murder! Went to the Sandpiper for my wife’s birthday on the back of good reviews. The red wine was mediocre (Malbec and Merlot) but all was ok until the main course. My wife had pheasant. Or a piece of carpet underlay. Or the insole of a shoe. Or whatever it was. Because it wasn’t edible. It was so overdone and dry that it would be hard to describe it as anything other than murder in the 1st degree. And was a disgrace for a restaurant which should know better than to plate this up. I promised to be nice to the waiting staff who were great and did nothing wrong. The pheasant main course was knocked off the bill but it spoiled the evening and we will not be going back. Unpleasant pheasant which was not a present.

Lovely cozy restaurant which was dog friendly. We booked for 8 of us and we’re out in the snug which we got to ourselves. Right next to the toilets which the dog loved as he got a fuss from everyone who walked past to get into them Food was really nice and staff really friendly. I can’t stand mint on lamb and asked if I could have the pressed lamb dish without this and they ended up giving me another gravy for it instead which was lovely. Drinks were all good and a nice selection. Cheese and crackers were really nice too. Most of the table got adffogato for desert which was again delicious.

It's very noisy, okay for groups, not good for romantic evening for couples. Only my opinion, though food good.

A very warm, friendly pub with excellent food at the high end of dining. The staff were professional and attentive and are happy to go the extra mile to ensure the customers get what they want.

I have found it difficult to find good vegetarian food since staying in Yorkshire, until I found this gem! My husband- who is very much a meat eater also found this restaurant to be ‘on point.’ From the phone call to book, to turning up to a warm welcome this restaurant has it all. The food cooked very well, presentation excellent and I simply could not fault any part of the experience. I had the cheese soufflé and my other half steak- both delicious and if we were local we would definitely be coming back!

The food was absolutely delicious. Beautifully presented and all lovingly freshly prepared. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Excellent value for money considering the quality of the dishes. Restaurant was a little quiet but we were quite late to dine and out of season. I can imagine there is a real buzz in there when it is busier. Tastefully decorated in simple stylish rustic Yorkshire style. Highly recommend. We may go and stay next time were in the area too.

We have just moved to Harmby and we were very pleased to find that the Sandpiper was in the Michelin guide and it was only just up the road so we could not wait to try it out. You will not be disappointed great food and front of house and we will be defiantly be frequenting the Sandpiper often....

We were visiting the area and had been recommended the Sandpiper Inn. It exceeded expectations and was probably one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I asked for a few modifications to the dish owing to food allergies, these were done without any fuss, and a gorgeous meal was presented which I thoroughly enjoyed. The waiting staff are very friendly and also super efficient. We felt it was fantastic value for money especially bearing in mind the excellent quality of the food. It also has to be said that the decor is lovely too. I wish we were more local so we could come often. Its another excuse for visiting this beautiful area again soon. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We celebrated my wife's 60th birthday here on Friday and WOW The venue is beautiful, warm and atmospheric. Staff were as amazing as any I have ever had the pleasure to meet. And the food, what can I say......simply stunning. And I have got to thank the girls because when I booked, I told them that it was my wifes 60th celebration. So when it was time for them to bring my wife's birthday plate, they were genuinely confused because they couldn't believe that she was 60. That was probably the best gift she received and made her feel a million dollars. So ladies, thank you so much. We had an amazing evening

Final day of our week-long Yorkshire Dales holiday and the meal we had at the Sandpiper Inn was the best by a country mile! The taste and quality of our meals was superb. We started with the homemade bread and houmus, and followed with the Duck leg and oriental salad for myself and fishcakes for my wife. Highly Recommend this gastro-pub. Very welcoming...even for our 2 dogs which was great for us.

I can not fault our experience at this restaurant. The food was AMAZING. Each one of us had something different and each of us had an astounding meal. Portion sizes were perfect, the meat, fish, veg etc were all perfectly cooked. In addition, the service was wonderful, friendly and efficient. The surroundings were great and there was no problem us lingering after our meal to chat. None of this ‘we need the table back’ rubbish. It was quite pricey but two of us had fillet steak and I don’t mind a bit considering how lovely the whole evening was. We will definitely make this our go-to place 😊

We've not visited The Sandpiper for a while, so we were looking forward to it. The food is always good quality, and that's not changed. What was disappointing was the inappropriate behaviour of a couple of the younger waitresses. There is a line where being friendly and over familiarity lies and what could be considered as 'banter' can soon become uncomfortable and rude. Disparaging comments about a diner's choice of food and drink, isn't quite what one expects from an establishment like this. The customer definitely isn't right, seems to be the mantra in The Sandpiper it would seem. It was all a bit disappointing and soured the evening, meaning we'll not be rushing to return or recommend.

Excellent food beautifully cooked Full of flavour. Had a lamb dish with a canberry and mint jus. Lamb was so tender Friendly service An added bonus was gluten free as they don't use gluten in any their sauces. Very good value

Brilliant little restaurant inside this place. The food was delicious and the service excellent. It isn't pub food so you pay a little more but well worth it for a quality meal which has been prepared with care. We sat in a large but still cosy dining room and there was another dining area across the hall. Really enjoyed our visit, definitely recommend.

Excellent - great food with informal / friendly service. A great menu - offering some great dishes as Starters, Mains and Desserts. . A dog friendly venue too which was a bonus as didn’t want to leave our Labrador home alone in the place we were staying. Would definitely recommend and return if ever back in the area.

Probably the worst restaurant experience I have encountered. Whilst the younger staff were very pleasant the older waitress was offensive and felt us feel so uncomfortable. The food was not as expected for a restaurant displaying a Michelin sign, poor quality and bland. Please save your money and don’t bother to visit.

Quality food - Relaxed atmosphere. We had a family meal, everyone was made to feel welcome, including kids and the dog. The food was exceptional and the service was friendly and efficient.

Took my wife for lunch at the Sandpiper Inn when out for the day on her birthday. It was a great success and we will be going back when we can. The Inn is unpretentious but comfortable, and the staff were very helpful and friendly....

I visited with my son and our dogs. It's a beautiful place and nothing is too much trouble. The dogs were welcomed and even got a biscuit ! The food was amazing, lots of local produce. I'd highly recommend and will be back the next time we're near layburn. Booking is advised as its very popular

Every time I go to Leyburn I stop at the Sandpiper and the food and the service never disappoint. I would recommend!

Great food and very friendly staff, I had the Tempura Squid to start , followed by an excellent Spearhead Fillet Steak and real chips, couldn't handle a pudding , but others in my party did and judging by the empty plates they tasted great, the only tiny slightly negative was, I'm in the Yorkshire Dale's and the only Lager on draft was Estrella !! , would have been nice to have something that was locally brewed.

Stunning meal and right from the beginning we got welcoming vibes. I rang on Friday afternoon on the off chance and were made to feel so welcome by the lady I assume is the owner. During our meal she was so attentive and genuinely caring. The food was absolutely sublime we had the Lamb and Beef cheek. It was so tender and delicious. On a beautiful summer evening we enjoyed a great meal of ham hock terrine, baked cod, local lamb and fresh raspberries. In a very busy restaurant all staff were helpful, attentive and friendly. This meal is worth travelling some distance for.
