Very good real ale pub selling good well kept real ales Anyone coming to Cheltenham should give this pub a go Tuesday 22nd October 2024 Today, we again come to thiscpub everything has greatly improved , and the pub is a blast The interior is great. The outdoor is brilliant There were a plethora of great real ales on, and the staff and locals today were lovely. This pub is an essential visit now to visit gor real ales and a good drinking enviroment when in Cheltenham ps the last time I came here I only gave 4 stars which was 10 years ago

Great beers. Did not try the food.

Food was good. Smallish greens portion but pie was nice and mash was good. I can always eat more mash. It was middle of day on wet Wednesday so understandably not much atmosphere but at the weekend this place is great so 5 star then. Back door open so a little bit chilly!

I always love it... they have the best beers in the town and the atmosphere here is always cool...

Came for late lunch and were seated upstairs. One couple arrived first and were seated and served with drinks. We then arrived and waited and waited for someone to come to the table. We had pre-ordered food so knew that was coming at some point but waited for someone to come to serve drinks. We asked a waitress whether we need to go down to the bar to get our own drinks but were told no, she would serve us. The meals and sides came one at a time over literally 10 minutes. Some of us had to start eating before the others were served. The meat was so tough , we literally couldn’t cut it to eat. Eventually we saw a waitress and asked for different knives which helped slightly. Still no drinks!! 45 minutes later, and meal nearly finished, the drinks were ordered and received. Not impressed! The staff were really friendly but for £30 a head for one drink and one main meal with one side, you would expect better service.

Excellent range of real ales, good atmosphere, quality pub for the discerning.

Fantastic pub with an incredible selection of beers/lagers . Go and visit for beers you will not find anywhere else. Lady behind the bar was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable about the different beers. It would definitely be my “local” if I lived in the area

Trying new ales is always random. They were good, not great (porter). Fish was very good!

The Alehouse has been beautifully refurbished. The room we use for Cheltenham Folk Club is less cluttered and a great space for singing and acoustic music.

We had drinks during Oktoberfest 21 Sept for 4wks approx.. Nice atmosphere. Clean loos.

A wonderful selection of well kept real ales, combined with a buzzing beer garden and a lively all round ambience. I think food is served, but this remains a genuine beer lovers' pub with the focus firmly on satisfying thirst, rather than hunger. Probably the best pub in Cheltenham (and that's quite a compliment).

Lovely place, really fab and kind guy working behind the bar, went out of his way to ensure we had a good time. And they have a bar billiards table which is so rare!!

This isn’t fine dining - it’s good dining. And sometimes that is exactly what you want. Splendid!

Lovely selection of beer and wonderful staff, what's not to like

A very disappointing Sunday roast - vegetables cold and the nut roast was a tiny portion . Roast potatoes were hard and seemed to have been cooked much earlier and left . We had been told that the Sunday roast was very good and so brought our guests who are visiting us. The beef was tough too. One of our group had belly of pork though and said that it was good, although vegetable were luke warm.

Very busy, the real ale was great.

Great place and fantastic beer garden out the back

I always think this place has potential for so much more. Beer choice is outstanding but staff tend to be a little frosty. Almost forgetting that customers should be treated a little more gently. Brusk.

Super nice pub with a great selection of food and a large selection of beer and also non-alcoholic beers and ciders. You order and pay for food and drinks at the bar. Staff very friendly :) lots of locals who have a beer after work.

I didn’t personally eat anything g at this pub. We were there as a group of dog walkers. However some of the group did eat and they were very complimentary. The place is lovely. Bit of a hidden treasure. The only thing I would say needs improvement is the toilets. A nice toilet area is unbelievably important and it does surprise me how few venues pay little attention to this.

Not been for some years due to living away, but just as I remembered, awesome selection of beers, and an absolutely full beer garden. Proof that if you serve what people want, you will prosper.

Good ale selection from an Ale House.

To be fair I should have said something. But paid over 14 quid for a pint of Krombacher and a glass (mini bottle) of prosecco. Beers condition died really quickly. Prosecco was very average when it's really easy to get decent stuff. Will try again as reviews are great and might have just chosen poorly.

Brilliant on Friday of The Gold Cup! Food is not only really reasonable, but also great quality and portioned. Bar is very run and stocked!

Great pub. Very good beer selection. Open for proper breakfast. Easy eating food that's well priced and doesn't interrupt your evening's chat. Top place for Cheltenham week, cos it's just far enough off the centre of town to avoid the w*nkers

Great little Engkish pub. I was a little disappointed to find out we couldn't order from their regular menu, but the chicken menu of the night was excellent. It was a Tuesday to be clear. I got an American style chicken and waffles with bacon on it, very very good. Whatever spices they put in the chicken breading was excellent. The atmosphere was that of a regular English pub and the service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend if you are in Cheltenham.

Popped in on a Monday evening as chicken coop was there, as you can see food and service was five stars, I would think its a bit more atmospheric on weekend lovely place inside loads of room and a billards room

Great food, huge menu of choices all excellent, highly recommend for eating and for watching sport, somehow manages to maintain its family friendly atmosphere even when sport is on. Speaking of which the outside area uncover is no smoking so people can enjoy being outside and watching whatever sport is on. Great selection of beers and spirits lovely staff, really great atmosphere. Well worth a visit 😁

The freshest pint of Citra I've ever tasted!

We went on a Friday night and the place was absolutely packed. We had planned on having diner but all tables were taken or reserved. We had a beer each with was very tasty. The staff was exremely friendly and chatty despite the volume of people. Will go back on a quieter night and try the food.

We only drank beer, we didn't eat, but the regional beer was very good

Room to ourselves upstairs, so it's hard to judge the atmosphere. Had the Sunday roast, which was great, but the condiments came out quite a bit later. The kids ate free, which was awesome.

Great place for beers. Have a different menu Mon and Tues at the moment.

The Random Pinters' pub of choice. We had a nice spot to sit and sip a few pints of Butty. All good.

Great ale selection, lovely atmosphere

Without reservation there was a place to sit so we ordered the Sunday Roast, because some people were enthousiastic about this place. The chicken was okay, the half lamb shank was dry and burned. Vegetables and patato was good and the Yorkshire pudding nice. Friendly staff

Didn't eat just had a drink, went there for the history,it's ok bit tired, could do with a bit of a smartening up.dogs allowed in.

Thanks to coops for our lovely dinner. As a lover of fried chicken I will definitely go back to eat again. Can't wait to try all different sauces. Well done chef!!

Tries too hard when it doesn't need to. Feels like it's run by someone with lots of money rather than someone who truly gets the beer scene. 100% visit and you will not be disappointed. However some far better places with hard and passionate soul to visit in Cheltenham.

Really nice alehouse. Food was really good. So good I went back a second night and had the same thing again! Beer selection was brilliant. Surprisingly not too expensive either. Well worth a visit if you're ever in Cheltenham.

We went to the Cider and Cheese Festival. Excellent cheeseboard selection. We went for one of each. Cider choice was excellent and the cask ale choice was good. Nice beer garden.

Great pub with absolutely really good food. The service was excellent! We had the Stake Ale Pie, Halloumi Red Pepper and Avocado Slalad, and the Sriracha and Jalapeños Dirty Fries. The ales they have are great too, so is the cider!

Stopped in here for the first time over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the very calm atmosphere in the garden. Inside is cramped and busy in a "traditional" way but that just guides you outside where, if the sun is shining, this place is one of the best in the South-West.

Always a good range of good beers. Not had food for a while, but when I did it was a great fish & chips.

Nice pub with a great choice of craft beers, including a couple by my favourite brewery Deya. Big beer garden with loads of seating. Food looks good but haven't got around to trying it yet, the pork scratchings were great though.

This was by far the best pub in town, until I discovered that vaping is permitted inside. The staff members I spoke with on more than one occasion confirmed this was the intention, and not just a case of a rogue customer. A real pity and a shock, as the beer choices are excellent, although the range of Belgian beers is significantly reduced compared to what it once was. The disregard for health drives my rating. If you're reading this Sandford Park Alehouse, please reconsider. I am only visiting now on days when I can sit outside and I would like to come back more often.

Can only say excellent, lovely food, lot’s of ales and excellent service from start to finish. Definitely recommend. An independent haven amongst all the chains.

I was very impressed with this new addition to Cheltenham when I first visited just after its conversion from a gay club and opening some ten years ago and was eager to look this one up again to see how it was doing, and was pleased to find it doing rather well. Largely unchanged internally but has a bit more character nowadays with the addition of a lot more beer and brewery related memorabilia, especially in the snug and the bar billiards room. There is now an upstairs section up the staircase which I don’t remember from before. In two sections the larger hand side has a large rectangular table and the other has additional seating. It’s worth popping up here to take a look at the really impressive Courage and Charrington mirrors that are hung over the fireplace. The garden is now a smart external space, but then it had been a building site when I first visited. What I couldn’t tell, as I visited at lunchtime was whether the pub is too brightly lit at night, which was my biggest gripe with the place on my first visit.
The bar is largely unchanged, still with ten pumps in five groups of 2 and 16 taps behind the bar for lagers and craft beers. The big screen that was behind the bar when it opened is gone though, meaning you have to squint at the small keg tap labels or presumably read the daily beer sheet of what’s on them. Easier to see the ales, and in this respect there were 9 on for my visit in the shape of North Cotswold Brewery Green Man IPA, Oakham Citra,Purity Jimbo Best Bitter, Wye Valley Butty Bach,Bespoke Brewing Co Half-Cocked IPA, Redwillow Brewery Weightless Session IPA, Salopian Lemon Dream, Bespoke Brewing Co. Beware the Bear and Bridge Stout. I went for the Salopian and Bespoke Brewing beers and they were both in good condition
