Restaurant was nice sat down ordered our food unfortunately for us it was a disaster, one of our party ordered rare beef and it came well done but not only that it all came and was cold especially after waiting for the vegetables, and the Yorkshire pudding was crispy to burnt. It certainly wouldn’t inspire us to go back very underwhelming.

Menu modified to reduce wastage through combination of new menu and eliminating self serve. Sadly smoked haddock is no longer an option however I was accommodated superbly by the GM. That said, service on the 28/7 was woeful! Dishes ordered, waiter disputed one order which we all knew was placed. So slow with delivery! Food quality was good but service issues let it down.

First impressions of Samual's are a wow. It is located in a grand manor house in beautiful Dales countryside. The dining room itself has views of the park and is a very grand room which as natural light fades takes on a warm glow, Food was very good. I had cheese souffle and pork loin with cider soaked pigs cheek. My other half declared her gin soaked trout outstanding. Food was well presented full of flavour but not over-fussy . Service was friendly informed and highly professional throughout First time at Samual's and will not be last; from beginning to end we had a lovely evening

My partner and I went to Samuels for our anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. The service from start to finish was impeccable and the food was very much of Michelin star standard. I had the duck for my main course and it categorically is the best duck I’ve ever eaten so a huge thank you to the chef! David and Anna on the floor were incredibly attentive and helped make my partner and I feel special on our anniversary. Thank you to Samuels for a very memorable experience.

I'm not sure I need to write a review. Look at the pictures and judge for yourself. This was Afternoon Tea at Swinton Park. It was such a shame as it followed a lovely relaxing time in the spa. I emailed them to and got a response saying it wasn't good enough. They requested a time to call me, I agreed and they never called. Not only was the experience disappointing but the way they handled it was too.

Goodness me, it has taken a few days for me to think how to praise Samuel’s Restaurant sufficiently. Perhaps the fact that we are still reminiscing about it goes towards extolling the brilliance of this establishment. Ruth Hansom and her team here at Swinton Hall produce the most incredible Dining experience. Produce of the highest quality, much from the Swinton Estate, is used in creating the most imaginative Menu ever. Perfection just about sums it up!!

Sad to say disappointing! We had planned on the tasting menu which is no longer! Apparently stopped today (27/9). Also the savoury porridge as a side dish is no longer; another dish we wanted to experience! Also ceased today! Seemingly Ruth Hansom as the chef is leaving. Food was flavoursome, minimalist portions, expensive. Enjoyable dishes all the same. Just annoying that expectations were not fulfilled!

Following a delightful walk around the gardens we were seated at a table in the window of the restaurant. The tasting menu was absolutely delicious, interesting and well presented. The staff were attentive and caring, lovely Happiness was charming. The ambiance in the restaurant was just perfect with the evening sun pouring through the large windows. I am visiting for afternoon tea on July 12th and hope the standard will be as good, as the recent reviews are disappointing.

Visited today for afternoon tea. A very understated experience. The service was extremely poor. Had to ask twice for some hot tea and other things. 1 small pot of jam for 4 small scones.. that didn't go far.. We ate our cakes which were lovely. But the place wasn't busy so no excuse for not topping up our tea. staff made no eye contact and had to go and seek out front desk person and ask a second time for a top up..... Waited about 30mins for the tea....we decided we didn't want to wait any longer... Management didn't give a jot...we paid the bill and came home. Wouldn't recommend and certainly won't be visiting again

Had a VERY nice meal at Samuel’s on Saturday night, with my wife. It’s an incredible room with gold ceilings, huge windows, an amazing fireplace and lots of ancient portraits – so much history attached to this place. We were the first to sit down at 19:00 but it soon filled up. We stayed Half Board and the Evening Meal was included, otherwise it would have been £60 for three courses. They came with a lovely little chicken appetiser before the Scallops Starter – both exquisite. Wife and I both had the “Waterford Rump of Lamb” for Main – absolutely superb. I had the Cheese Board and wife had the “Dark Chocolate Delice” for Dessert – both were fantastic. They also served a very nice Raspberry Sorbet in between courses, which was a nice touch. The waiters and waitresses were all very professional. The ONLY thing wrong with Samuel’s were the windows – it’s the most amazing room but the windows were flaky/grubby and needed a good clean and paint…they’re noticeable because we had a table by the window and they are absolutely massive! Other than that, the restaurant was spotless and we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal – it felt very “gourmet” but the food was fantastic and we were both stuffed…kudos to the Chef!

We had high hopes in store for this restaurant. The first positive being the setting, the room and decor and the views of baby dear grazing the field. We ordered two wines, 1 Pinot noir (not bad but screw top which didn’t leave the best impression) and 1 margaux, over oaked and rough round the edges. The amuse bouche was a potato croquette (nice, thankfully) and a totally tasteless cheese tart in a what appeared to be shop bought tart case.We were then given warm rolls, which were actually hot and quite chewy. Tasted like reheated stale bread. The butter was over salted to the point of inedible. For starter, which took over an hour to come, I had scallop with chicken ravioli, crispy chicken wing and some sort of purée. The portion was tiny and they forgot the ravioli, so I had to send it back and wait more time. The whole dish was lacking acidity and texture.. also under seasoned / over sweetened. We were then given more bread rolls. An indicator of another hours wait. There was a large function next door which obviously detracted all of the attention from the paying guests.. not what you would expect for a £60 for two course restaurant on a table of 6 for a special occasion. The main course came after another hour as expected. I ask upon ordering this dish (which was vanilla roasted duck with cherries and gratin) if you could taste the vanilla - the server said ‘no’. I then asked if it added any value ‘it’s just a background note’. The vanilla was non existent and added no notes in the back of foreground. The portion of duck was 1/3 of a small breast, which had been over cooked and the fat was not rendered at all. The whole dish was not sweet, under seasoned, chewy and actually not nice.Overall a very disappointing, underwhelming and empty experience. Leaving you confused with what you had just consumed. Of which though it wasn’t very much. You left contemplating buying some savoury snacks and as you didn’t have faith in the chef to purchase the dessert. Some of these concerns were raised with the staff who didn’t seem focused on any form of resolution nor did they handle the feedback well. You would expect a restaurant of this calibre to driven by the overall experience their customers have. Ensuring the delivery, flavour, presentation and service are the pillars of their success. Any slip on these areas should be rectified immediately thus ensuring a positive experience for everyone who attends. This certainly wasn’t the case for us.

We booked a table in Samuels restaurant for a special family occasion and we were all really looking forward to this. Unfortunately we all left very disappointed not only at the terrible service but at the food quality too. We were shown to our table and ordered wine, this came and we were informed that she wouldn't open it just now as it was warm as she had got it out of the cellar. Our starters came and must say definitely not worth the £5 supplement for the scallop, the main courses were also below our expectations however we did all enjoy our desserts. The service was inattentive at best, the food mediocre and we all felt very deflated after what should have been a special night in a lovely venue.

Went here for Sunday lunch today. I’ve been several times before and it’s always great food. The three course Sunday lunch menu is £28. Of all the places I’ve eaten in in this country, Samuels remains the best value Sunday lunch I’ve ever had. I’ve had nicer food but it’s good here. It’s the place itself that makes it special though. The restaurant is elegant and beautiful. If you were dropped into it and presented with a menu with no prices, you’d be expecting a bill for three times what you actually pay. That said, bit of a criticism. The meat (both pork and beef) was very nicely cooked but very fatty. We both ended with a big pile of fat left on our plates. The roast potatoes were greasy and not crisp at all. Other than that, really nice and remains a favourite of mine.

Our waiter on the first visit was excellent, we were served by other staff on the second visit, but he remembered us and came over to speak. The staff on the second visit were efficient and pleasant. The food on both occasions was good, portion sizes just right for us. The meal was included in our room package. You could choose three courses (starter, main, dessert) from a menu. They also gave bread, and two small tasting plates in addition to what you ordered. The dishes were well executed, but in each course, there seemed to be an element or two that was done for pure texture and no taste. My husbands dessert had a bland yellow jelly thing that was used soley as an aesthetic wrapper on food. a fancy mousse in the appetizer was bland. The milk crisp on my dessert looked cool, but just tasted like powdered milk. That said, my dessert was amazing in taste other than the milk crisp. Don't get me wrong, it was a good experience, but as far as fine dining goes, I've had better.

There seems to have been a change of chef since we ate here last winter. himself. The sheer confidence and assurance we enjoyed last time was lacking. This is a place for fine dining but the 'amuse-bouches' were less 'sophisticated' and the pre-course nibble at the table (a slice of pork loin topped with a braised apricot) didn't seem appropriate. The lobster ravioli was just perfect and worthy of an 'excellent', but the 'turf and surf' of a halibut fillet accompanied by a pretty rolled shoulder of veal very crisply cooked was an imbalance of flavours. The staff, too, were less formal than we'd experienced before though all the flunkey bits are still in place. But a waitress who picks up a bottle from the cooler and asks "anyone want any more wine?' is a bit inconsistent with that style. £354 without a tip for dinner for four (two not very expensive bottles and a pre-prandial) seemed quite steep. Needs to take a good look at itself to see what's gone from the past.

We were part of a group who lunched there on June 17th and were very disappointed with our meal. My starter was so small that it would have fitted onto a table spoon and somewhat tasteless. Several people had the roast beef dinner; by the time ours came, the small gravy had dried out round the edges of the plate. My beef was gristly in places. Veg was two very nice roat potatoes, one piece of carrot and a very small floret of cauliflower and the same of brocolli. The Yorkshire pudding was excellent, however, apart from that everything was lukewarm. We had to ask for gravy to put on the pudding and by the time it came the rest of the food was cold. The desserts were good. Had we been there on our own we would have definitely complained at the time, but as someone else had organised the lunch it wasn't possible.

We are big foodie's, we live in Birmingham which is now a city with the most amount of Michelin Star Restaurants outside of London. We know what good food is and have now had dinner 3 times over the last few years at Samuels's. The food has always been out of this world. This weekend we stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast rate (pricey for what it is but v nice) and paid the £12 extra for the tasting menu and extra for the wine flight and seriously what a delight it was! The food was Michelin level and the wine pairing was delicious and enhanced each course beautifully. The service overall was very good from the friendly Spanish host and Roy and his expert wine and cheese recommendations however not quite the same from the other staff some courses were put down without mentioning what they were or if they were then it wasn't to the level I'd expect, by that I mean yes I may have ordered it but remind me what each component is in an M&S tv style description so I can appreciate the cucumber jelly and rainbow trout pate and the peanut foam etc. Also yes I'd like to know why each wine is paired with each course. To be fair to Roy he did very well on the courses he served with a reason for why each wine but again this wasn't consistent across all the staff. Anyway fab food lovely environment would definitely recommend for a special occasion!

All 6 of us agreed the evening meals we had here as part of our stay were some of the best we've ever eaten anywhere. Beautifully presented and a shame to spoil by eating them - but we managed! Not cheap - the classic menu is £58 a head but the food was sublime and we reckoned worth the money. Wine is reasonable for a restaurant of this quality and the staff are lovely - service could be a bit quicker but at least we had a rest in between courses.

We had the tasting menu with matched wines, and it was all wonderful - they wouldn't really need to wash our plates because they all went back clean.

We visited Samuel's for my partner's surprise birthday lunch. On arrival we went to the drawing room where we had a glass of Prosecco each overlooking the lawn and could view the deer grazing nearby. Beautiful drawing room but we did have to bring to the attention of the waitress regarding some shards of broken glass on the floor. The restaurant itself is in a beautiful room with an ornate ceiling and my request for a table next to the window had been noted by the restaurant. The food was extremely well presented, especially starters and desserts. The amuse bouche was appreciated. My partner went for a traditional roast pork and I had the stone bass which was excellent. Staff were attentive and one member of staff kindly mentioned about going up to the 1st floor where there are photos and information about the history of the building. After lunch we went for a stroll around the grounds and it is well worth walking up to the Lily ponds and sitting in the bird hide for a while. The walled garden is huge and some of it has been used for vegetables whilst the rest has a more wild look. A 3 course Sunday lunch was excellent value at £28 pp.

We had the tasting menu dinner in the Samuel's restaurant. We visited for a special occasion and we were seated to the best place of the restaurant, in front of the large windows with views to the garden. Swinton Estate has its own garden and animals in the park. This convinces visitors about the quality and freshness of food. Every plate in tasting menu was either very good or excellent. A vegetarian of our group was as happy as everyone else with her plates.

We like this establishment so much we decided to eat here Saturday and Sunday lunch times. The service, food and setting are second to none prompted us to make us to revisit Samuel's to make our break a special one and we were not disappointed. We decided to let the pictures of the dishes speak for themselves and would recommend you to give yourself a real treat and visit this venue.

Enjoyed a fun evening in Samuels Restaurant at Swinton Park at the end of May. Delicious three course dinner with excellent service provided by a professional and friendly front of house team. Outstanding starter of scallops with pork cheek and the after dinner petit fours were out of this world and very cleverly presented, a true work of art. The dining room is a beautiful room with light streaming in through the windows, and a very classical ambience.

My wife and I have stayed at Swinton Park before and often used Samuels to dine and on this occasion brought our 12 year old nephew Jacob as he has always wanted to taste ""Posh food" that he sees on the television cookery programmes. We let him chose which menu he wanted and he went for the 7 course tasting menu. At first we were concerned someone so young would perhaps not have the palate for this type of food, how wrong we were. He ate every last morsel saying this was "the meal of a life time that he might never taste again". I have to concur. Every course was a delight and could not be faulted. Even at my age I would have to say that it was probably the best meal I have ever eaten and I have eaten in some fine places. The service was faultless and the surroundings could not be better. At the end of the meal the manager took us into the kitchens and showed Jacob where all the hard work took place. The head chef and staff although busy cleaning down for the night took time out to welcome and speak to us.I agree with Jacob. "Everyone should eat here at least once".Well we will be eating there more than once. I cant wait to come back.A big thank you to all the staff at Swinton Park for making a dream come true, This exceeded all expectations.

We ate from the set menu and indulged in tartare of deer followed by venison and finishing with the cheese board. We drank a very nice Shiraz and were extremely impressed with the food, service, setting and pace. A truly delicious meal, worthy of three AA rosettes. The dining room is a delight and the staff eager to please. I'd definitely go again if I get the chance!

On our last visit to Swinton Park in November we felt the food and service in Samuels didn't live up to the superb surroundings. This time we were very pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was good on both days. We chose the DBB option for the second night of our stay and were really pleased we gave Samuels another go. The service was professional and attentive, the food was delicious with portion sizes appropriate for the number of courses.

Always a pleasure and a treat to eat here-never been disappointed and visited for years. The staff are welcoming and hospitable on a very professional level. Cosmopolitans are recommended and a very nice cocktail and champagne list. The dining room is super and most imposing with a beautiful ceiling - a superb and sumptuous environment. In additional to the environment the wine list is joyous - something for every palate and bank balance. Sunday lunch is highly recommended- great fish and meat choices - nicely presented and flavoursome. The Saturday lunch menu has recently changed and the wood pigeon and venison are wonderful - well balanced and well presented- delightful amuse bouche . Cheese course is super - strong cheeses and quality crackers. The dinner menus are sublime and dinner in this restaurant is a real treat and the ambiance is something to savour.

The staff are great. They accommodated our new baby and made sure we had room for the pram. The food is the best quality whenever we come. Every time we come it makes me think why we didn't eat there before this year!.

Popped in whilst looking for a quick lunch. Very unusual setting for a tea room but works well with about 10 tables set up between the pews & the altar. The pews act as an overflow area if all tables are taken but we arrived as one was being vacated. Very friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent value for money. Menu is limited to a choice of rolls, soup and a tempting range of homemade cakes & scones. Rolls could have improved if pickle, mustard or mayonnaise had been offered but the cakes & scones made up for this as they were very nice. The church itself is a delightful building and worth a visit in it’s own right. An interesting alternative lunch option.
