Absolutely brilliant service and food. Me and my mates keep coming back again and again. We love Sam’s in the city !

Booked a table in advance. Arrived 1/2 early and said " was it ok to go upstairs for a drink " was told quite abruptly No two partys up their. Not a friendly reception or apology. Obviously not trained in customer service. She said " you can go straight to your table and told were it was. Not a friendly start and behind post where you couldn't move. No xmas atmosphere although it was busy when we arrived, it soon cleared. The waiting staff were more friendly. My sweet Eden mess was just a bowl of cream, you couldn't taste or see any fruit. In all it was very expensive for ok food/service. I would not recommend. I live in truro and know how much competition there is so everything needs to be spot on. The name a restaurant has doe's not guarantee future bookings. Very disappointed.

Due to the abrupt welcoming to Sam's it was off putting to say the least. For a dining experience was not the best when told your table for two is behind the post ! ...although waiting staff were very nice and efficient. Food a bit disappointing 6 prawns on a megre bed of salad ...my Rum punch was nice but my other guest was prosecco and was very small in comparison with the same price . Need work on customer service to make it a good experience all round then the prices would probably go over our heads. ps I am a local too so I do like to support local where I can

Booked a table for a family get together. Not been here before but had it on good recommendation that it was an ok place to go. We were seated quickly and offered the menu etc. Drinks arrived swiftly as did the food. I personally wasn't too impressed with my main meal (prawns). Portion was meagre and it didn't come with the correct dressing and it wasn't cheap. As the main meal of the day I was left still feeling peckish. Puddings were ok I suppose but my daughter's was mainly made up of squirty cream. Probably wouldn't bother going again.

Too cold upstairs. Will ensure we eat downstairs next time

Brilliant restaurant with friendly staff great food and drinks and great atmosphere. Noise levels do get quite high though, if you find that an issue.

We had a really enjoyable family meal today.Welcoming atmosphere, diverse menu.gd veggie choices,attentive service,.generous portions,not too busy ..for Saturday lunch.

We used to go here regularly a few years ago and were really looking forward to visiting again, sadly we were very disappointed. We ordered the beef short rib that could have done with a steak knife as was tough, also ordered the sirloin stir fry from the specials menu, nothing special about it at all. We were expecting sliced sirloin with stir fried veg, as the title of the dish would suggest, instead out came a bowl of steamed veg with no colour to it or evidence of it being stir fried, and a whole sirloin steak thrown lazily on top, with no sauce or taste, also served in a bowl, try cutting a steak in a bowl…… Shame as we used to really like it here. Front of house were polite and efficient and we did say we weren’t impressed with the food.

Excellent food with attentive and friendly service. We arrived mobility scooters for a 60th wedding anniversary. The staff helped us store them in the bar area and were understanding of the time we needed to sort ourselves out ready to order. A brilliant evening.

What a warm and welcoming place! Friendly and helpful staff, booked a table for 6pm but arrived 20 mins early and staff were happy to accommodate. Great cocktails and local fresh seafood. A new favourite!

Holidaying in Cornwall this week and we came across this little Gem in Truro ! The menu was fantastic so we were hoping the food stood up to expectation and it did ! Fabulous food the burgers are amazing I had the Thai fish curry which was outstanding and desserts we’re equally delicious.. the lady who served us was brilliant went through the menu with us totally amazing experience and highly recommend well most definitely be back ! A well deserved 5 Stars all round ..

Eaten here a few times. Alcohol list lacklustre, although Sam’s own lager was not bad. Starters, we both passed on as they had run out of anything we fancied. Main dish, had to pick something more expensive as they had again run out of the dish I wanted. My meal, steak had an odd smell as in maybe it had been sitting in its own blood for too long, onion rings were brought out as an afterthought and I thought had plastic inside, but I am going to go with the outside skin of the onion hopefully. The best part in fairness was the coleslaw. Wife had chicken burger which did look nice, but apparently the chicken was way overcooked and very dry. Staff and ambience were good just a shame about the rest of it.

Seafood platter never disappoints! I love the shelled seafood 😋 and the garlic bread.

Great food as usual, our favourite is their Short rib, so good.

Ordered the seafood platter. The best thing on it was the mussels with the garlic sauce. The calamari was dry. The portions look big but doesn't really seem to justify paying £29 for it.

Summed up this restaurant produces/provides a great ambience, food that has been prepared with care and at a great price point. I need to emphasise that the pictures do not do the food any just at all, it was all a 9 if not pushing a 10.

Booked a table for 6 at a lunch time. Amazing food - try the beef short rib - and very attentive service ( despite having another large table full in). This was my 4th visit and I'm working my way through theirs menu.

Amazing burgers and the girls loved the carbonara. The service was brilliant and price wise was well worth the money. Would highly recommend and if we’re ever back in the area will be coming back..

I ordered crab Linguine. For a plate that costs 20 pounds , i was expecting at least.... some decent pasta. The portion was for a toddler and the pasta was cutted suitable for consumption from a baby. We also ordered Calamari. It was served hot and sticked like a chain above something they call salad. Again the portion was ridiculous small and the serving above the salad a weird choice. (Who wants to eat warm salad?) And last but not least. Tempura mullet.... 🙁 the portion was decent the taste was less than ok and sorry for the bad news, this wasn't tempura. Other than that the service was excellent, friendly staff and the atmosphere was nice.

Wow, fancied a steak, had a choice of three restaurants, and so glad I chose this one, probably just lucky I got in, so book guys,absolutely gorgeous, WOW, yes a little on the pricey side ,didn't look at the menu I'm sure if you got kids it's a bit cheaper, I only had a steak so can't so can't recommend anything else, but what I sore other people we're enjoying

A very good lunch . Good service. Portion size superb with lots of accompaniments to the falafel burger. It was good that there was no background music as there were a few ‘loud’ tables. Lightning could be brighter at the back of the restaurant. However, delicious food and good value.

Good, friendly and very fast service, directly get a free bottle of water when sitting down. Food came very quickly, aswell as the drinks. Food and drink was relatively expensive, but still OK. Music was a bit to loud, but got turned down after asking. Generally a nice lunch.

This was an impromptu first visit, without having read any reviews or recommendations-the menu looked good and the place inviting. We received a friendly greeting, and really enjoyed the atmosphere whilst we waited for our starters, which were delicious. Our mains were also superb, well cooked, fresh and good quality - really good. The service was unobtrusive and friendly. The only niggle and reason for 4 stars, was that there was a dog in the restaurant, and on the seating.

Nice service but below average food unfortunately, have eaten here in the past and it has generally been acceptable. On this occasion food served wasn’t great, one meal not served as per menu, fish battered when menu didn’t state that, which meant one of our party couldn’t eat their meal, but all that was offered was a free drink. Not a good experience and poor value on this occasion.

Went early afternoon (didn't realise they opened at 12pm) we were the only ones in there but the food and service was excellent and the hostess was very attentive. Lovely place and good food at decent price.

Enjoyed our lunch today with my child. The service was amazing. Will definitely be back again.

My burger was like a piece of cardboard, could not believe they had the nerve to serve it. Even the young waiter looked embarrassed.

Mixed review coming up.. I was solo lunching with a 1 year old, and was welcomed into the restaurant by one lady, and sat with space for pram and highchair, which was great. We were given paper and pencils so that was a lovely touch. Ordered and received a coke, but unfortunately it was flat and warm! I then spoke to another lady Nadine, who, with conformation from her, was pregnant and she poured me a fresh coke straight away and she shortly chatted to my 1 year old whilst we waited for my food to arrive. I was sat eating food whilst the other (not pregnant) lady was talking to a table, for what seemed like quite I while. While still talking to the same table, another 2 customers came in and were waiting and waiting to be spoken. Clearly seeing the lady speaking to the table they then made the comment of "She's really starting to annouy me now" I thought they were about to walk out, but the lady then heard the customers talking to my 1yo. During this time Nadine is serving food and pouring drinks. Also a delivery of drinks had been placed on the bar taking up half of the bar, this was left here for too long really. I could see the frustration in Nadine and she ended up moved the drinks herself. Now, this is what really bothered me. The other lady who i do believe had enough time to move this small delivery said 'I'll do it" while Nadine was already moving it, she clearly didn't want to do it though. I just felt there wasn't an equal amount of effort with the 2 staff and I just felt sorry for Nadine. Being quite heavily pregnant and in a role where you are moving around and having to carry things, I feel like the delivery should have been claimed by the other lady and sorted ASAP. Not only that but it was a delivery left on the bar.. should have been moved out of sight by the other lady as soon as it arrived! It was right infront of my fave so I couldn't miss it... Just feel as though, other members of staff need to be clearly told that theu are to handle heavy goods as Nadine certainly should not be. Food was nice though.

Repeat visit here for dinner and had probably the best burger I have had in years ! All the food looks great and is well presented. We will be back.

Great welcome from the servers, not rushed,very helpful with menu and drinks, and very polite. The food was amazing, tasty, well cooked and hot. The drinks were good. I tried my 1st aprerol spritz will certainly be going back for more! Thank you Sam's.

Excellent all around. The salad was to die for and I can't praise the waitress enough. Its so rare to get staff of this quality. She was totally on top of everything and we didn't have to wait for anything.Carol you are a star.

Amazing food, well worth it quiet, good experience

Pre theatre dinner at 5.45 so pretty quiet. Good friendly staff, good service. We had, pork & black pudding & burger followed by Eden mess. All well cooked and presented. Very tasty & hot. Excellent food, would definitely recommend and will be returning.

IN.CRED.IBLE. Me and my mum were in a massive HURRY - came in at about 6.30, needed the food ideally by 6.40 as we had to get to the cinema for 7. The AMAZING Nadine sorted us out - ordered us in early, sat us down asap and we were out by 6.55pm. Service was so fast, and there was beautiful GORGEOUS HOT food (in only 10 MINUTES Despite how busy it was). amazing effort from Nadine - so so helpful , literally never had staff be that attentive and friendly - and also Mirabel who was on shift with her. PROMOTE THESE GIRLS TO THE TOP PLEASE (though they definitely are there already)!!!!!!!!We left a 10% tip but would’ve left 1000% if we could. LEGENDS!!!!!!!!!

Went into today to pass some spare time with my family to have a drink - went to sit down and there was a piece of onion on my seat - food on the floor and chewing gum stuck under the table - service was slow and when putting a drink into a glass one of the staff had their fingers around the top of the glass plus coughed on her hand before returning to another drink for someone - I complained at the time we left about the food items and the chewing gum - was told that they had been really busy but that wasn't really an excuse - at the time that we went in they weren't really that busy - server said that they would pass onto a manager when there was one around. I informed them that I would never return. For the prices they charge you would expect a higher class of professionalism.

We had an early table at 18.30, so benefited from Sams being quiet, so our greeting and initial service was excellent. It did fill up soon after, then the staff were more stretched and not so attentive. The food was excellent, not rushed as sometimes happens with early bookings. We really enjoyed our evening in this busy little place, a good vibe and really good meals.

My husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying a lovely meal here yesterday. Staff were lovely very friendly . Food was amazing. Homemade burgers and coleslaw. Definitely be back and definitely recommend..

Whilst visiting family, we were lucky to be introduced to this beautiful bistro. With a beautiful interior and extremely happy and pleasant staff, with the most gorgeous tasting food with extremely great portions with also a great price tag to the menu. We certainly wasn't left disappointed in any way.

Great food, a little slow on the service but overall great!

Nothing special about the food, the waitresses were friendly. The salad on the plate was gritty, the chicken burger was dry and the chips had salt on them. (High blood pressure, so could do without the added salt, especially as there was salt and pepper available on the table).

Unusually good burgers (slim and mountain (vegan)). A cut above the normal burger place.

Good came very quick and was very nice but we were ignored after an hour someone came and c cleared our table but we weren’t offered a dearer or if we needed anything else ! Had to ask there times for the bill which was annoying as there were 6 members of staff out front and chatting behind the bar !

Came in for lunch with my family. Staff were really welcoming and friendly and service was fast. Menu has a wide range of options so everyone should fine something that suits them.

Been twice now and to be fair both times the food was decent. Service however needs some serious work FOH. No check backs. Had to get my own napkins from other tables. No 2nd and 3rd drinks offered. This has happened on both occasions. The actual people are at least nice just need a refresher on hospitality excellence probably. Shouldn’t have to get up to pay when it’s so quiet ect. Don’t usually write reviews but since it’s been the same twice thought I would as I’m pretty sure this place could be great. Don’t want anyone to get in trouble and please just take this as feedback.

It was ok. Service was a bit slow considering it was quiet. Food is good. Sam's in Polkerris is the one to try, the atmosphere and location is unbeatable.

The very young staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough but the older guy we had serving us was awful. Made us feel very uncomfortable and that we were an inconvenience. Didn't show us to our table just pointed across the room, after 15 minutes of no service in an empty restaurant, I had to go to the the bar to interrupt their chatting and ask if we had to order drinks at the bar. He got our order wrong 3 times across the food and drinks and overcharged us for doubles we specifically didn't order. The food is bog standard pub grub with a massive price tag for the quality.

We were walk-ins but they found a table for us, in the corner at the back of the dining area. Unfortunately, we were in company with 3 of the largest fattest flies you could imagine, sitting and buzzing right above us! We thought about leaving but decided we were too hungry and had a bit of a journey home. Showed a member of the waiting staff who looked a bit shocked, and moved us to another table. Foid was ok, quite tasty but all the time I was thinking about those flies and swarms of them inhabitting the kitchen and stores. Sadly we are unlikely to return.

Pork belly was very crunchy and overcooked so worried I would break a tooth on it.

I was rather dismayed with my meal, I ordered the Thai red mullet, which was okay but miniscule. For the price of £17, I was expecting a main meal but it was the size of a starter, around 5 small pieces of lightly battered fish with a very spicy but COLD sauce over the top and a bog standard salad without dressing. I was more full up from drinking the pint of coke I ordered which cost £4.50. My friends had the pork schnitzel, one of my friends passed me a slice to try as she too was unhappy with her meal, the pork was so dry, the pig must have been a free range pig in the Sahara desert, before becoming dessicated and breaded with an unpleasant overdose of sage. As for my poor partner, as a vegetarian he found there were almost no options at all for him, he settled on a 'superfood salad' with cheese crostini. The salad consisted of what appeared to be shop bought coleslaw, plain bog standard salad and some tinned mixed beans. The crostini was apparently okay but again, tiny and absolutely not worth the price for what was essentially a starter. The waiting staff were fairly disinterested, they forgot to bring drinks orders over and at times a member of staff repeatedly tried to swipe my friend's drink before he'd finished. We would have complained but the waiter serving us went awol. No one else came to check on us or give us the bill so we went to the till to settle up in the end and just wanted to leave. I also notice the management like to reply to negative reviews denying and invalidating everything anyone says happened, for example if someone advises their steak was burnt to cinders, the management will advise them it was rare, if someone says their carbonara was disgusting, the management advise them it was in fact delicious - personally I always see this as a red flag when I see this sort of behaviour from an establishment.

A very meagre meal which consisted of shop bought salad/cawslaw. The meal was appalling for the impertinent price charged.

I had an obscenely overpriced salad. £17!!??Egg yolk was brown and covered in shell, cawslaw seemed to be from the co-op around the corner. They opened a bag of lettuce onto the plate on one side and it seemed they opened a can of bean salad on the other. The waiter seemed to lack basic training, leaning over us, trying to take drinks before they were finished, then he just left in a car outside so no-one came to collect payment from us (we went to the bar when someone else turned up), and no-one came to check on us so there was no opportunity to complain about the bad food. The prices of the food here are an insult and vegetarian options are very poor. The website said there were vegetarian and vegan specials but none were on offer. Avoid.

We turned up early on a Friday evening when Sam’s was fully booked for pre-theatre. Nevertheless we received a really friendly welcome and they managed to reshuffle the seating so that we could have a table. We ordered a mix of dishes between the three of us. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious, fresh, tasty and looked great. Service was friendly and helpful throughout and the bill reasonable. Highly recommended all round.

Just a great place for a relaxed evening with family celebrating my birthday. Really great food, brilliant service and a lovely atmosphere or vibe if you’re young 😉. Definitely coming back when in town again.

Food and service by waiter BEN was excellent !

Had a really good meal here. We had a warm welcome and the guy who settled us in and took our order was charming. He was quick to come back and tell us that one dish ordered was now unavailable and that also no English mustard. Apologies offered and acceptable alternatives sorted. My sardines were lovely. The pork schnitzel could seriously have fed 3 people. I hate leaving food but it was overwhelming, especially as having had a starter. It was beautiful though. We will know for next time to order much less.

A delightful waitress didn’t quite make up for disappointing sardines. Supposed to be grilled, they came out simply heated up, but not hot enough, leaving the skin flabby and oily rather than crispy. Some of the green salad leaves were gritty and there was no evidence of either the salt or the garlic. I don’t think the olives were a useful addition, and a dry piece of focaccia didn’t help; the nice waitress brought me some butter when I asked. I clearly chose the wrong dish, or the wrong day, but at this price point it should be better. To their credit, my bill was reduced when I said some of this.

Food was great, the burgers can’t be beaten! Fast, friendly service, great atmosphere and some awesome posters on the walls - would highly recommend.

Lovely staff, sadly everything else was lackluster, the portion sizes were tiny and overpriced, the fries and calamari that i ordered were non-existent, visited a year or so previous and everything was great then sad to see their standards have slipped.

We did a last minute booking and were accommodated. The food was delicious and the service was excellent by our server Ben

After deciding to eat at Sam in the city in Truro, we arrived to find the restaurant was empty, which worried us but after realising it was probably because it was a quiet Wednesday evening, we decided to give it a go and well - it certainly didn’t disappoint! We were welcomed in by a very friendly Ben who was so attentive and dealt with our requests extremely efficiently. The food for all 4 of us was absolutely delicious (including my cobbling my choices together to suit my vegetarian tastes)and we would all highly recommend this restaurant. Well done to the team.

This is a great restaurant in the heart of Truro. It has a marvellous atmosphere and serves very good food. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a good evening out in Truro

We really, really love Sam's, so much that I don't know why we don't go more often! Their house cider and lager is amazing, the seafood platter and the burgers have always been top notch! But the one thing that definitely makes us go back is that it feels like visiting an old friend. It's cozy, and homey in all the right ways, especially thanks to the manageress who's attentiveness is second to none! PS it's very dog and kid friendly!
