Delicious food, great service in the heart of Salt's Mill. High ceilings, exposed brick work and you can feel the industrial past. It's a unique venue. Very popular. You can just turn up, but booking is advised.

Overpriced for the quality and quantity. Poor service. Used to he much nicer. I had a salad niçoise and it was £15 but the size of a side salad. It said it came with bread but it had bread the size of a cruton with it and hardly any salad dressing. When I asked for more it took about 10 mins for it to arrive. All in all I spent £20 on a meal I didn't enjoy and didn't even fill me up. I ordered some chips after to fill me up but even these were overcooked and greasy. Would love to see this cafe come back to how good it used to be..

This site is great. The restaurant is always busy and booking is a top idea. You can book there and come back but on busy days you'll have to pre book. They offer a wide range of food of great value as portions are good and food is very well cooked and presented. Cost is fair in this day and age and staff are friendly and efficient. There's always a queue waiting to be seated. They seem to have gotten things right. Long may it last.

The mills are spectacular and the diner looks classy. However the food was very disappointing and not cheap. The chips tasted like the oil should have been changed a while ago. You couldn’t see or taste any anchovies in the salads nicoise and the coleslaw was bland and could easily have come out of a large pot, when the expectation was that it was homemade and a bit special.

We've been going to the Diner for many years. Things have changed, although the menu remains roughly the same. It operates like a bustling mill canteen and is very noisy. It gets hectic. Staff tend to be friendly and rushed off their feet. I would be interested to know what food is made on site, and what is bought in - menus don't state this. Overall, the food and beverages are consistently good.

The space is lovely, although can be noisy at time with the open kitchen. However I am disappointed with the offer, especially for children. We were there with a 6, and two 3 year old children. There is no children's menu, and were told they can get a smaller and cheaper version of adult meals (which is fine) - we discovered later that the price of kids dishes were £10!!!! It's incredible to have such prices, and not even displayed - I would have just shared a pizza with my daughter had I known! Though I should admit that the £3.80 (not barista like) flat white + £0.80 oat milk should have raised the alarm. How can you charge the cost of half a carton of oat milk for literally 50ml of it. I am shocked they profit from people with dietary requirements or those who go for sustainability etc. in 2024... it's incredible. I will visit again next year, hoping they take feedback into account. Affordable KIDS MENU + Free or cheap milk alternatives will make me update my review next time.

We haven't been for a while and it's not quite how we remembered. We just had hot drinks and cakes but the bill was astonishingly almost £30 for 3 of us. Tea is not generous - we had to ask for more milk. One teapot per person, rather than the shared pot with a small jug of hot water would be better value for the price. The cake was very average, tasting commercially made. Being charged an extra 80p for non dairy milk feels mean these days when it is so mainstream. It also makes a basic coffee almost £5. It's come to something when it's actually cheaper to have a local beer there than some of the the hot and cold drinks. The experience was rescued by the waiting staff who were helpful and friendly.

Arrived at the diner at 11.30 and there was no queue. Several tables were free. A gentleman who appeared to be a manager (no uniform) showed us to a table for 2 and told us that the table was needed at 12 so we would have to be finished by then. He took away the menu & said only cake & toasted food was available. At that point we felt very rushed & had to call a waitress over to take our order asap in view of our limited time. The waitress was lovely. We ordered a pot of tea for 2 and 2 toasted current Tcakes. Service was quick but we were only given 2 small butters and jam. Had to ask for more butter & gave jam back. Total bill was over £16. I thought this was very expensive for our order. My main reason for only 1 star was because of the comment from the ‘manager’ that the table was needed at 12. Found that quite rude and unwelcoming!

This was a pleasant experience, as part of a Mother's Day visit to Salts Mill. Due to the open plan / ex-factory floor environment it can be quite noisy, especially when it's busy. You can also expect a queue when it's busy, unless you book a table in advance. Service is good. Friendly and proficient. The menu is fairly modest but there is also a specials board to bolster the selection. The food is good, nothing particularly special but fresh and tasty. The food, simply put, was amazing. The vegetarian mushroom burger and Margherita pizza were absolute standouts, bursting with flavour and expertly prepared to perfection. It's clear that the chefs at Salts Diner are passionate about their craft and dedicated to delivering top-notch culinary creations. In addition to the mouthwatering food, the staff at Salts Diner were friendly, professional, and attentive, they went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our meal was perfect. The restaurant's ambiance created a welcoming setting that's perfect for casual lunches. Whether you're dining with family, friends, or a special someone, Salts Diner offers the perfect backdrop for a great dining experience. It's worth noting that there was a queue upon arrival, and we had to wait for around 20 minutes before being seated. While this was a minor inconvenience, it's a testament to the popularity of Salts Diner and the high demand for its delicious cuisine. In hindsight, I would definitely recommend booking a table in advance to avoid any potential wait times, especially during peak dining hours. In conclusion, Salts Diner is a culinary gem that delights diners with its amazing food, friendly staff, and inviting ambiance. Gorgeous setting, smiling and highly efficient service . Lovely food . BUT serious tea issue . I admit to being majorly fussy about my tea and was delighted when it was served in a pot . Imagine my horror when I saw that the bag was still in its sachet and NOT IN THE HOT WATER . That is not how I expect to see tea served in such a magnificent place . Visited for coffee and a light bite. Great environment, had high expectations which were not met! Our choice was between crumpets, scones & toasted tea cakes. With a price of £4.80 for a scone or tea cake and £4 for crumpets I not unreasonably thought these would be ‘home made’ but when I asked what the crumpets were like I was told by the (very lovely) server that they are Warburtons!! £4 for something I wouldn’t eat at home?! We went for the toasted tea cakes. Big mistake. They were flat and chewy, tasted like cheap supermarket tea cakes (which presumably they were) and came with 1 pre packed butter and an individual jar of jam. It was motorway service standard food - and prices. What an expensive disappointment! The bill was £16.90 for 2 coffees (which were good) and 2 cheap toasted tea cakes. I honestly have no idea how they can justify the price. Maybe other stuff is good but I’ll never know as I won’t be returning!

Couldn't recommend a day at Salts Mill enough. We had lunch at Salts Diner; which was well worth the queue for the lovely food and excellent service. The atmosphere in the diner itself along with the views from the window AND George's friendly service genuinely made our day and completed the experience. There was so much to browse in the antiques shop we probably could've spent a couple of days looking through the trinkets and collectibles. Also elsewhere in the mill had a great interaction with Graham who was working in the shop on the ground floor. Couldn't recommend it enough to someone who admires the work of David Hockney and good food.

This is a fabulous, characterful and busy environment. We look forward, always, to our visits. Our Full English breakfasts today were generally good, but not as warm as they needed to be. There is an art to getting fried eggs from pan to plate to the diner... fast, which left some room for improvement today. The fact it was busy is no excuse in my opinion, not at any price. Hopefully, it will be better next time.

Salts Diner is a great place for a bite to eat because of the setting and service from the staff. It's a really cool restaurant - really open plan in the old Salt Mill with the kitchen in the middle. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was OK, but I would have expected something a little more for the prices on the menu. We had pizza (the special) and it was very simple and something I could create myself at home quite easily. Nothing mind-blowing. The cakes all sounded really good but I'm not sure how "freshly home baked" they are. The scone was really tasty and slightly warm, which is a really nice touch, with local butter! Yum! The whole place is branded with a dog, by David Hockney, who also has work in one of the galleries. The dog on everything (including the waiters' and waitresses' tshirts) is quite funny and adds an extra bit of character to the place. The rest of the building has galleries, shops and an exhibition with a bit about the history of the place, which is interesting. All in all, Salts Diner is a nice place for a bite to eat in Saltaire.

Having been many times before I was looking forward to my lunch at Salts Diner, the restaurant was busy and I expected to wait. Eventually getting to our table we waited for our waiter who arrived with the menu, never mentioned the specials.. We ordered drinks, one soft drink.. no ice?? Even though we could see I’ve in others, water was warm, white wine was ok but also warm, we were asked our food order and if we wanted sauce, obviously with burgers and chips we said yes, these arrived in sachets as you get in fast food/fish shops? Not in a dish a previous visits, we were taken aback at this point of the visit. The food eventually arrived and was good, plates much smaller but all the same good food. At no point did any of the the team ask if the food was ok or if we wanted more drinks, after we finished our food again had to wait for the bill, no attempt to add on coffees or desserts, we got the bill and paid both disappointed.

Needlessly overpriced. I ordered one of the specials, the mackerel pate, picked cucumber and baguette for £12.75. The food was nice to taste, but nothing more than I could make at home, mackerel pate doesn't take much culinary skill. However my main gripe was with the bread and price. I was expecting a full hearty baguette, but it turned out to be thinly sliced and toasted bruschetta, not what was advertised. Receiving the plate I felt ripped off, for £12.75 it definitely fell into the main meal category, this was clearly a starter, what's more mackerel is one of the cheapest fish you can buy. I don't mind paying more for food so long as I come away having had enough. But paying higher price for small quantity comes off as the restaurant skimping. On the plus side after I complained the staff did put it right and brought some more food, and dropped the price to £11 on the black board. But it shouldn't take a customer to tell them it's overpriced, they should be reviewing their food and pricing before it hits the menu. I also never received my baguette.

We arrived at 12pm, there looked to be around 10 tables free and just one person in front of us in the queue, so we joined it. We were quickly asked how many people were eating, and expected to be seated soon. The person seating people was funny to watch, clearing tables, looking at his notes, ticking things off now and again, shuffling menus, generally doing things to make him look busy, it kept us entertained for a while at least. We realised that some people must have booked in advance, as they arrived at the front of the queue and were seated - fair enough but I wish this had been communicated to us when we arrived!). The queue was quite large now and we were at the front, so we continued to wait, getting less entertained by the antics of the guy seating people. After half an hour, we were seated to be told that there was a half an hour wait on food orders - WHY NOT TELL US THIS HALF AN HOUR AGO!!! Anyway, having waited half an hour, we decided to wait again. The waitress was pleasant and good. The food was mediocre. Not good but not terrible. The menu choice was very limited. The price was quite expensive for what we got really. This would have been so much better with some communication... Better still if they didn't bother reserving tables. All the guy had to do is tell us that the free tables were reserved, we didn't feel very welcomed.

I ordered the Salts Burger which came with skinny fries with skin on and a home made coleslaw and salad. The hand made burger was succulent and perfectly seasoned and bun light and fresh. Chips, delightful and coleslaw perfect ( though small) My wife had a Caesar salad which she said was excellent and plenty of tasty dressing and plenty of chicken/bacon. Service was swift for the number of covers they were handling, and pleasant and courteous staff. Always a delight to visit Diner, and I look forward to my next visit soon.

A return visit treat, post-Covid, having been visiting Salts Diner for very many years. The two of us were seated quickly by a friendly waiter, however, the service thereon in was lacking in terms of attentiveness. First of all our order was very simple indeed, however, the waitress required the order to be clarified twice at the time of the order being taken, and when the table was set it became apparent that there was the need to clarify it a third time. When the order arrived there was another misunderstanding. Secondly, the tea arrived with no tea, it was just a teapot of hot water. The food was excellent. The soup was fresh and homemade, very delicious. It felt good to be back in what is a stimulating and inspiring place. The quality of the food remains high, but the inattentiveness lets the place down.

We called in this afternoon for coffee and cake about 2.30pm. We were shown a table and sat down. We were ignored for about ten minutes even though two waitresses were not busy and leaning as though with nothing to do. Eventually my wife went up to the young man and asked if we could be served and he went off somewhere and nothing happened for another two or three minutes. At this point we were that fed up we decided to go. I just felt the staff were disinterested and I was so disappointed as I fancied the plum and ginger dessert. Final comment is very poor customer service,

It always annoys me when there are tables free in a restaurant and the staff leave people queuing when they could be seated, which is what happened here. When we finally gave our order we waited over half an hour and noticed that people near us who had come in after us had been served. We called a waitress over to ask about the delay. She said she'd find out but she walked off and took an order from someone else. When the food finally arrived it had obviously been sitting waiting on the pass for some time with no-one bothering to bring it over. So I had a leatherly lukewarm pizza with hardly any topping. There are no gluten free options on the menu, in fact it more or less said "we don't cater for allergies". My sister, who is coeliac, ordered a burger without a bun and hoped that there was no cross contamination. When we asked for the bill, guess what, we waited and waited and got to the stage where we decided to just put on our coats and leave, at which point the bill magically arrived. There was no shortage off staff, but they are surly, unhelpful and poorly managed.

Needed to visit an adjacent shop so thought I'd pop in for lunch. 1st visit here for a couple of years. The opening hours for Salts Mill are a bit odd at the moment - closed Monday & Tuesday. And an unhelpful one way system...

Although the food was very good, the serving staff are in serious need of some basic training. We called in twice whilst in Salts Mill, once for lunch and once for coffee and cake. On both occasions our orders were messed up and each time...

The restaurant was incredibly busy when I was there. I only noticed that my glass was dirty halfway down but I was still charged for half a glass!

Went with friends for Sunday lunch. The beef was lovely but the carrots over cooked so very soft, broccoli under cooked very difficult to cut through, let alone eat. Very disappointed with roast potatoes as very dry and tasteless. Think they were probably frozen and bought in. Lovely building and local to us. We left disappointed.

Exceptional food, welcome and atmosphere. Overnight stay in campervan. Staff were attentive and we loved everything about our stay.
