The food was fine, not amazing. Clearly prepared in advance and then reheated as it came out so fast. Starters arrived before our drinks! Nice setting, dog friendly and warm welcome.

So glad that we were able to get a table here for the final lunch of our weekend in Norfolk. Super friendly staff and excellent service with food which was beyond outstanding….. the fish and chorizo stew was amazing .We were only sorry that we were too full to be able to enjoy a dessert! Add in the cosy atmosphere, twinkling lights and warming fire and the Dun Cow is a definite winner for us. We will be back.

We were recommended to call in here. Since the recommendation we’ve discovered it’s under new ownership. It was OK. The Shiraz wasn’t the best. The food was OKAY!!! My husband order the burger. It was literally a burger and chips. I had the fish and chips. The fish was lovely and flakey. The batter was very greasy. Hopefully these guys will find their feet and get it all sorted

The Dun Cow has changed hands and you can taste the difference. My fish snd chips was very crunchy while my wife’s mussels were ok but bland. The Dun cow has seen better days.

This was one of our favourite pubs. On first visit under new management my mussels had not been washed and were mixed with a generous spoonful of mud. Management were defensive and unapologetic, as if this was somehow my fault. My meal was replaced, but the pub's attitude was peculiar and unsettling. We are local and vow never to return.

What a dreadful experience. If could give zero stars I would. Having booked online several days before our reservation and replied to the two emails received from Open Table confirming our party of three would attend we drove from London and arrived 5 minutes before our table was due. I found a member of staff to announce our arrival and was told “you’re in the overflow room”. We were shown to a dark, dingy, characterless annex that had the atmosphere of a disused office with its unmade tables and soulless decor. We were also alone in the overflow further adding to the awful ambience . I expressed surprise at our location, particularly as I had booked well in advance and was told “the tablet (I assume computer) sits you”. When we arrived and parked I was approached by two gentleman who asked if I knew somewhere locally to eat. I directed to the Dun Cow and they entered the pub ahead of our party. They were sat in the main area at a table for four. I pointed this out to the lady who took us to the overflow room and asked why the “tablet” had not sat two walk-ins in the overflow area and sat them at a table for four? She and another member of staff declined to reply other than to say “you can wait in the bar until a table appears if you like”. The arrogance and ambivalence of the staff was breathtaking. I will never return which is a shame having dined at the Dun Cow before. However every cloud has a silver lining. We made our way to Cley Next The Sea a short distance away where we lunched at the very excellent George and Dragon. We were welcomed by truly hospitable staff who sat us in the busy dining room were we had a splendid, superbly cooked lunch served by two very charming staff. The George and Dragon I highly recommend and have written a review accordingly. If you are reading this and thinking of dining at the Dun Cow then I suggest you make your booking at the George and Dragon Cley Next The Sea.

We had been to the Dun Cow once before a few years ago, and decided to go back as we were that end of the coast road. Lunch was superb, what a treat! The photos don’t do the food justice. We had lemon meringue tart for afters and they were decent portions, as a dessert lover there is nothing worse than getting a wedge of tart about an inch wide. Good service, relaxed, attentive but not intrusive. Would happily go again!

The Dun Cow is a gorgeous pub set in a fantastic location overlooking the marshes and out to see. A great Sunday lunch menu and our food was delicious. The service was a bit hit and miss; albeit very friendly. Sadly, apart from Sorbet, there were no DF deserts which is surprising and disappointing. Hence the reason for four stars and not five. Really worth a visit to this lovely old English pub especially if you’re not lactose intolerant.

This is a lovely foodie pub. Very relaxed with great food (I particularly like the fish stew). We first discovered it as a family when we stayed for a few days in Salthouse in early January - and I have already been back twice since then. We visited the first time last year and though the surroundings aren’t the best in the area, the food is very honest and good which is why we returned. We had the tuna starter, scallops and humus. Two scallops a little tight we thought, but tasty and the tuna is really good. Fish stew was very tasty as was the Guinea fowl special. Sirloin steak a little chewy and but not the cut we would ordinarily choose. Puddings were all gorgeous. Sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and orange & chocolate mousse, stunning. We did sit out the back which was dark and dull and would not again. We would rather have sat outside if I’m being honest. The food came out so fast (5 mins within ordering) and we had done 3 courses in 50 mins, which is too much, and then just ‘left’ by staff though we would have had more drinks and coffees if offered. Plates were cleared but the girl didn’t return to clear spare cutlery and used napkins, which was odd. The staff are pleasant and it’s really crying out for more, but it cooks decent food, so see past the rest and you won’t be disappointed. I just wish the courtyard area and loos (door’s especially) could just have a touch up and clean. So much competition in the area, it could do with just refining itself. It deserves that as it could be exceptional.

Came on a Monday booked was still quite busy. Very pretty barn with fairy lights to decorate the wooden trusses. Some nice specials on to compliment the menu. What was advertised on the web site, and the menu supplied after booking did not include a few dishes that had interested me once we were provided the menu on arrival, which was a shame. We had halumi sticks and both had a burger which was really very nice. We then treated ourselves to the poshest dessert Raspberry soufflé with Raspberry sorbet ice cream which was to die for and prepared to perfection. Went to the Dun Cow having read all the reviews about the food. It sounded amazing. Unfortunately we were not as wowed as so many of the previous customers. Personally I found it difficult to select a dish as nothing really appealed, but settled for the prawns and cucumber combination (pretty tasteless as it required some form of dressing which it appeared to lack) My husband selected the mackerel which he tells me was quite pleasant and we both enjoyed the chips. The location is pleasant though parking is very difficult and the addition of very noisy dogs did not add to the Sunday lunch ambiance for us. I guess it was simply the wrong choice of pub and menu for us. Does anyone in the area do a good old Sunday lunch? [ Another sad loss in these post Covid times!]

The Salthouse Dun Cow was recommended to us by friends so we duly visited as were in the area. Almost missed it as the signage is very poor. The pub itself is lovely with pleasant, helpful and polite staff. A typical North Norfolk pub menu...

On the basis of this evening’s meal, the Dun Cow continues to provide excellent food in a relaxed unpretentious setting, retaining its individuality. Service was excellent, friendly and well informed. These are strengths not always found in the Norfolk pubs which have recently fallen into...

We visited on New Years Day. I am usually really skeptical about ordering international dishes in a pub, but I was blown away. I ordered the tuna sushi tempura as my starter which was outstanding. My fish stew as my main was incredibly fresh, light...

An excellent evening meal by the log burner on a cold winter night. Long may the Dun Cow remain independent of the groups taking over the best pubs in North Norfolk so that it can continue to offer a good varied menu, and an atmosphere...

Great cafe, one of the best we had been in on our 2 week holiday. Cake selection was enormous, coffee tasted great, toilets sparkling clean & friendly service. I can see why it's so popular, highly recommend!

The meals were really overpriced and disappointing, service staff were very friendly and we didn't want to complain, but a couple of the meals were pretty awful to be honest, and the rest of them barely passable for £16 odd quid each. A lentil and mushroom stew for £18 that was barely a starter size; a child's pasta for £9 that was eaten in 3 mouthfuls. All round, really delighted with kelling heath facilities, and the woodland lodge is fabulous, but the restaurant really needs an overhaul. As others have said, a captive audience shouldn't justify such overpriced poor choices

Lacking atmosphere, even though pub nicely decorated for Xmas Charged are greater than the quality of the meal offered.
