We have ordered sushi from here a number of times, and we have yet to be disappointed! The rolls, hand rolls etc are so big and delicious, you are definitely full after eating here! Don’t be discouraged by the prices, ALL the food here is worth every penny!

I ordered a take out platter not long ago and the sushi was delicious and very fresh. Nothing disappointing at all and I will be ordering more in the future. I really enjoyed the spicy salmon maki in our platter, however everything else in the platter was good too. There are not many good sushi restaurants in the Durham region and I will put this restaurant above all that I have tried in this area. If you live in or are visiting this area, come try their sushi as it is great. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks to Trip Advisor we found this place. There is an absence of sushi restaurants that are not AYCE in Durham region. I was so happy to find this place. They clearly take pride in their food. Sashimi is very fresh and service is great.

We used Tripadvisor to find a restaurant in Pickering for a birthday lunch. Since we had good luck with the recommendations on TripAdvisor in the past, we took a shot at this local Japanese. We weren’t disappointed! Sashimi portions were generous compared to other places. We would definitely return,

Always love going here and have been doing so for the past 16 years. Unfortunately, it’s always takeout rather than dine in as this restaurant gives off some serious Japanese vibes. This is the authenticity you want from sushi/Japanese cuisine. Don’t get me wrong about the take out either because the food is second to none. I’d just like to come in for a dining experience.

This is a gem of a restaurant. We decided against all-you-can eat because we are tired of the bland taste. What a treat! The food here is fresh and high-quality. And incredible portions! The sushi at this restaurant is terrific. Service was friendly but a bit understaffed the one gentleman couldn't quite keep up with the demand. The side dishes were decent but not quite as good as the actual seafood. Overall good experience and great value.

Until today I thought as well that this place is one of the best sushi places in the Ajax/Pickeribg area. But today I had to change my opinion drastically. In the past I was allowed to change the Maki Special. Today I was told this is not possible. I have to take to different rolls, having 2 California Rolls is not possible. Server/Owner very unfriendly. First my friend was told that there is only one glass of red wine left. Then with 10 minutes to official closing time they must have found more wine in that mess they have in the rear. Anyway together with the bill my friend got another glas of wine. Great but 2. 30pm sharp we were told in no uncertain terms that we have to leave right now.. Basically we were thrown out.

We had dinner a few weeks ago at this relatively small restaurant. It’s somewhat popular so probably good to have a reservation. Menu selection is OK, but nothing really unique. We had many of the typical items: large sushi and rolls boat (with miso soup & salad) veggie tempura, edemame, and the Tako Yaki balls. Everything was decent but nothing had that wow factor. Some of the rolls weren’t of even size and unravelling. Plenty of food for the three of us, but we were pretty hungry. Ended up costing just a bit more than typical AYCE place, but quality was a little better. Service was OK. I’d say it’s a solid 7.5/10.

We have tried around 7 of the sushi locations in Durham/Scarborough. This is the only place we have tried more than twice. If we want sushi we stick to here. It's not outstanding, but if you want decent sushi for a decent price in a quaint location, this is it. They bring some Korean appetizers out as well.

We decided to pop in and try this place for take-out this evening. We were greeted by a staff member who showed us to the back to place our order. The owner was busy making sushi but was friendly and answered questions while we looked at the menu. We ordered two Asahi beers while deciding and we were quickly advised of a special that included a spring roll appetizer included at no charge with two beers. We chose to enjoy the spring rolls in the restaurant while waiting for our order. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them while we waited. After a short time, our order was ready and we were on our way. We have now eaten and it was great (oh donna, dragon and spicy tuna rolls). A new fave in the area.

We went to Sakura the other night, haven’t been there for ages and they didn’t disappoint. We both had Bento boxes. Large portions good teriyaki (I had chicken my husband had salmon). Tempura was excellent except for the shrimp which were disappointing and inedible. I’m pretty sure the shrimp were not cooked. Everything else was excellent. Service just okay. We will be back to try again. Next time we will get sushi and 1 bento box. 4 stars only because mediocre service and tempura just meh.

With all of the AYCE places around, it's nice to find one where you can order a sushi boat with a fairly good variety of sushi and sashimi. The pricing is actually quite good and you get a few little extra appetizers on top! It seems to be family run, which is a bonus.

Being that we live so far from the ocean, it's really hard to get good quality sushi. But this restaurant had it - even real crab - not the fake stuff! The sushi pizza was the biggest one I've ever seen. It was loaded with toppings and was delicious! We also ordered the sashimi salad, which was also amazing and the sashimi was great quality. They even brought us a free sample of a new item on the menu. The proportions were very reasonable. I would definitely go back!

We had wrapped up a trip at the Toronto Zoo and were looking for a place nearby to dine. We decided to go with Sakura Sushi, based on reviews -- and we were not disappointed! We were a group of 7 (5 adults, 2 kids) with various diets -- from vegetarian to carnivore to "carnivore but not raw fish." Sakura accommodated these diets very well -- their menu has plenty of variety. We ordered a couple of appetizers and about half the group ordered combos that had soup and salad; the other half ordered non-combos. We were pleasantly surprised when they gave everyone a soup and salad -- didn't differentiate at all. That really started the meal on a great note. After that the appetizers came -- not only did we get appetizers that we ordered, but also other samplings that we did not order. It was all on the house, and they were VERY generous with their portions, making sure that everything they gave us had enough pieces to go around. I was astounded by their generosity and them going out of their way to make this a special meal. (We hadn't even told them that we were celebrating a birthday.) Then came the actual meals. Everything tasted fresh; my husband and I ordered teriyaki and we both loved it. A few people ordered sushi and it was delicious -- fresh and just plain delicious. We really appreciated the option to use brown rice. About half way through our meal, the server brought out more appetizers -- commenting that they heard that we loved some of the appetizers and they had extras -- so here they are. That was just amazing of them. All of us focused on finishing the sushi and we took plenty of food as leftovers. (They really spoiled us.) We would definitely go back, not just for the food, but for the hospitality they showed us.

Visited my friends new apartment around the corner from this Japanese Sushi restaurant. Very small & all 6 or so tables were filled at the opening hour. Lots of people ordering to take out too! Now I know why, excellent food. Very reasonable as well! We both had shrimp tempura, served with large cup of misosoup, and a huge bowl of rice. We ordered California rolls to share. They gave us a very nice complimentary relish tray to begin. Glass noodles, cabbage slaw & a saucy couple of crunchy deep fried rice balls. If we both ordered a beer or glass of wine you received a complimentary order of 6 small veggie spring rolls for the table. Cannot wait to visit again...soon!

The service was fast and friendly; I walked in to order takeout and the chef prepared my sushi in front of me in less than 15 minutes. Presentation wasn't great, but it was take out so I wouldn't expect it to be. I can't have anything uncooked right now, so my options were limited to cooked seafood, so I ordered spicy ebi maki roll and yam tempura roll. The shrimp in the spicy ebi were REALLY tough and dry...but I've never ordered a roll with shrimp so maybe that is normally how it is prepared. Other than that, the food was tasty. The restaurant smelled very clean, absolutely no fish smell when you walk in, which is always important. It's small but has a few booths and tables for dine in. So far it's the first sushi I've tried in the durham region and there is much better sushi in Toronto, but it's nice to know there is something nearby for when I get a craving but don't want to go into the city and make a whole night of it. They also had a really cheap lunch take-out menu. I didn't order anything off of it, but it was only $7 for lunch, and that seemed like a great price! I'm definitely going to bring my husband back here so he can try the rolls I would normally eat and let me know how they are!

After reading the reviews on this site, we were very intrigued to try this place. We took a chance and ordered a large sushi/sashimi/maki party tray for take out. We only wanted salmon and they were very accommodating with our request. When we dug into the sushi, we were amazed at the buttery texture and freshness of the salmon as well as the presentation. Way better than any AYCE that we've ever been to. Then since we couldn't get enough, we went back a couple days later to dine in at the restaurant and satisfy our fix. I tried Sakura just over a year ago now and I have never left. The restaurant is cozy, the food is always amazing/ fresh, and I agree with the other reviews on the service, Yuna makes you feel as though you are visiting family. Sakura is the most inviting restaurant I have ever visited. The menu has a great deal of variety and everything I have tried has been delicious. Even the basics such as their miso soup and garden salad, which come with most dinner options, blow every other place away. The glass noodles that you can get as an appetizer are so good – I sometimes ask for 2 orders and take one to work the next day for lunch . I usually stick to the sashimi and maki for lunch/dinner, (I have tired almost all of the variety’s) and have never had any sushi more fresh and delicious then from here. In my honest opinion, I think this is the best sushi restaurant in Durham. Sakura is excellent in all angles - food, service, atmosphere, and price. The owners/servers are super super nice. The food is fresh and very reasonably priced. We regularly order the 30 piece sushi, sashimi, and maki combo for $29.99 and it is more than enough for two people. If you are dining in, you will be served with a little starter - kimchi, sweet potato noodles, and deep fried rice balls. Also, Japanese tea is free. There is also a great special for take out. For $7 there is full menu to choose from, for example Spicy Salmon rolls (10 very large rolls) + Miso Soup for $7. Or chicken terriaki + soup for $7. The take out specials are only offered between 11-5pm. Great deals!

We ordered one of the lunch specials and some sashimi, maki rolls and the seaweed salad (which was a very generous portion ie enough for 3 or 4 people to share). Considering the restaurant was almost empty our food took longer than I would have expected to come out. The rolls were very large. Next time I will order less food. The spicy dragon roll was my fav. "you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
