A great location for a Tea Shop so close to the Cathedral and Winchester College. The tea room itself is quite quaint - just what you imagine it should be. A delightful place to catch up with an old friend for an Afternoon Tea. Service alas, on our visit, was somewhat haphazard. Afternoon Tea for two was duly ordered - unfortunately it appeared nothing like the photographs in their advertising. First the sandwich plate arrived - four thin finger sandwiches (two of which were egg, one salmon, one I can't remember), and a mound of dressed salad - way more than any garnish. Not quite what we expected. Then came the cake plate - two (smallish) fruit scones, cream and jam, along with a slice of Battenburg cake, and a square of carrot cake and a cake of chocolate and Guinness cake. Both squares of cake were tiny. Problem - how to share 2 small cakes between two hungry ladies. To be fair, the scones, cakes and jam were obviously home made and very delicious, but a taste is really all we got. I've given a rating of Average for this place. This is because TA jumps from Average to Very Good. I believe their should be a Good. Would I go again? Yes. I would like to try this place again even though I found it quite quirky. I probably wouldn't order Afternoon Tea though. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, if I think they understand quaint and quirky.

Wandering around Winchester I came across this Tea Room opposite the Wykeham Arms. Even though all tables were full or reserved the charming lady at front-of-house made us most welcoming and found a table next to the window. A good start, followed by exquisite cakes and sandwiches which were made to perfection. There was also a very good selection of teas or coffee. Seating was comforting and the other staff were great. This was a treasured find. Thank you

We popped in for a cup of tea - and found a menu with several pages of tea options! One had Assam, the other a Roibos with citrus, and they were both superb. Restful decor and music, and a lovely atmosphere. We definitely need to go back.

We're local but have only just discovered this wonderful tea room. We visited recently with family for an afternoon tea and were not disappointed. Generous sandwiches and delicious scones and cakes, with lovely preserves. The tea menu is also worth a mention, being supplied by local tea company, Char. There is also a lovely secret garden seating area outside. We were so impressed by the Afternnon Tea that we visited again (just the two of us) for breakfast on Sunday morning. A lovely relaxing experience and we can't believe that people aren't queuing up outside to get in! On both occasions we were served by the lovely Benjamin, who is delightful and to whom nothing is too much trouble - he certainly enhanced the whole experience for us.This will now be a regular stop off for us, and highly recommended to you if you are reading this. It is a little off the beaten track, but well worth the journey.

St George's tea room is a little hideaway gem in a quiet backdrop of the city. If you are prepared to walk a few minutes from the high street, through the Cathedral grounds to the vicinity of Winchester colledge you will not be disappointed. I have been here many times with friends for tea/coffee and cake. I especially like the peaceful garden terrace which is protected under a covered pagoda giving welcome shelter come rain or shine. The amazing selection of cakes are baked freshly every day and a very generous portion is presented beautifully on Burleigh China. There is a good choice of teas and the tea is served in pretty china teapots. I returned today with my family, 6 adults and a toddler (highchairs provided) A selection of freshly made sandwiches is available and I had a delicious freshly made goats cheese and caramelized onion quiche with salad. After speaking with the staff they were happy to make a little sandwich to my toddler Grandson's liking and went out of their way to accommodate my daughter-in-law's pregnancy dietary requirements. Nothing was too much trouble. Incidently they also do a lovely afternoon tea which I can also recommend. It has been lovely to support this new business as it has evolved. The manager is clearly proud of what he has achieved and quite rightly so. There are many eateries in Winchester but in my opinion this is one of the best.

I Heard about this lovely tea room by a friend of mine and decided to go. Upon my arrival I was greeted by a lovely young lady who offered us any table and handed us the menus. As we were looking through the menus, it was very easy to decide. We all decided to have some cakes as we didn’t have much time, next time we come we’ll definitely have an afternoon tea! They looked amazing as they were all on display and I decided to have a lemon drizzle. I thought it was one of the best tasting cakes I’ve had in a very long time. My friends had a chocolate and Guinness and a carrot cake also very nice. Love how there are so many teas to choose from and also I cannot complain about the shortbread biscuits you get with the tea and coffee, think it’s a lovely touch and they’re delicious! Cakes showed up in no time which was great because as I mentioned earlier we were short for time. I highly recommend this lovely hidden gem in the back streets of Winchester, so much potential, even just writing this review makes me want that bloomin’ lemon drizzle!

We walk past here everyday being locals. We had spied a courtyard through the window which appealed as the weather was hot. Our daughter was due a belated birthday treat and Afternoon tea seemed an appropriate belated celebration. We were a group a 5 and we had made reservations. The spread was substential to say the least. The sandwiches alone were generous and delicious. You all get an individual tower of cake/ scones witch are all homemade.( see photo's)!Although most of us had skipped lunch for our 2 o'clock reservation,we could notmanage to eat all of it. A highly recommended casual place to have Afternoon tea.

We visited after an interminable wait to be served at the Wykeham Arms across the road. Mistake. Quiche, soup and sandwiches on offer for lunch. “No quiche”, said the waitress before we sat down. We ordered two sandwiches (at a hefty £8.50 a pop) and a pot of tea. We’d drunk most of the tea when the chef left to come back 2 minutes later with a jar of gherkins and other shopping. Not a great sign as one of our sandwiches contained gherkins.... All the tea consumed when the sandwiches arrived, 25 minutes after they’d been ordered. To be fair, they were very good, if on the small side for the price. As we left, the waitress was coming back from the shops with a loaf of bread.... We were 2 of only 4 customers. Conclusion: nice food, disorganised kitchen, not to be hurried...

Just love this authentic tea room, just of the Winchester college campus. It’s got a very nice feeling to it. Service is very friendly and patient. They serve a nice menu of different teas and have lovely home made cakes. I enjoyed probably the best Battenberg cake I have ever eaten. They also have a secret garden. It seemed chilly outside for me in January, though a couple of people were enjoying the outside area so may be heated.

We waited for nearly twenty minutes to get served. They forgot the cake when I paid I was told only two of them working, one not supposed to be. I don't feel that was really relevant. On a Saturday just after lunch they should have more staff. Also;£10.50 for cups of tea for three seems rather expensive. The tearoom definitely needs to up their game other people in the tearoom were not impressed with long waits and orders being muddled seem to be the common place.

We chanced upon this tea room yesterday in Winchester as we were looking for 45 minutes to kill and fancied some tea and cake. When we arrived it took about 5 minutes for the waitress (who was wearing an incredibly short skirt with ripped tights) to bring us the menu. She seemed friendly enough and left us to look at the menu. What followed were 35 minutes of waiting to order, while the waitress rushed around serving the other 5 tables who were sat around us. She even took the order from people who arrived after us but completely forgot about us despite the fact that she kept rushing past. Anyway, after 35 minutes of patient waiting and lots of smiling at her with the hope that she would take our orders, we got up and left. Our departure was not even acknowledged and I can promise that we won't be back!

My friend and I came here for lunch. I felt pleased that I had found somewhere in central Winchester that wasn't packed at lunchtime. It has a beautiful garden with a glass roof so you could sit out in wet weather if you wanted. The staff were nice and there was lots of choice. We ordered sandwiches but sadly the bread was a bit dry and stale with not really enough filling. If they up their game and provide big, beautiful sandwiches, they will be onto a winner as it is one of the most beautiful parts of the City.

We visited the St George with our son and daughter-in-law who said how good it was ! We didn't share their enthusiasm , nice looking and the service was good probably because even on a hot Sunday in summer there was only us and one other person !! The menu lacked any imagination and was very limited, and the food was very forgetful, this tea room is quite new 5 months app and of the beaten track with so many eateries in Winchester in its present format can't see it surviving .
