No improvement since our last visit. A 20 minute wait to order. Table filthy and unhygienic. It hadn't been wiped clean. Cutlery was not that salubrious either with fingerprints and food residue on. Such a shame, as it could be really good if it were better staffed and better run.

We actually visit the cafe quite often and it’s a very average supermarket cafe. What really annoys me is there are not too many healthy options on the menu. However there are jacket potatoes but never any tuna. Everytime we go in and ask they never have any !!so either remove it from the menu or nip onto the shop floor and get some. We always have to clean the table as they are rarely clean. Not sure how the fried eggs are cooked but they always have dirty oil residue on them and are overcooked. Staff ok

Slow service and a long queue, taking more than 10 minutes to get to the till in order to order food and drink. Tables were filthy and not cleared by diners or staff. They were not wiped even when they had been cleared. We ordered a meal deal, but were told the wraps (which are usually part of it) were not, so had to pay extra for those. Not impressed at all.

Staff are immensely rude, the chips were cold and tasted like old oil. Tried to talk to one of the staff about an issue and they were stand offish looks like a few other people had order issues around us, overall not great.

My wife and I had lovely cooked breakfasts, each had 2 sausages, 2 eggs, mushroom, fried tomato, toast and beans. It was good quality and cooked perfectly. At £5.25 each I thought that was good value. We also had two mugs of good teasting tea. I would recommend going there if there other meals are as good as this.

I waited 40 mins for my food after getting fed up of waiting i went to ask were it was to be told they had lost the order. I got a refund but was told it want go in for 2 days so that ment I can't go anywhere elss to eat as can't afford it. I didn't complain as there was only young ladys working at the counter and I can't fault how hard they were working and how polite they were my issue is the lack of organisation for the cafe its self and lack of experienced staff. I use to go all the time but will not be going back.

Nice enough cafe. Lovely and bright with a lot of window seats. We often pop in for a drink and a light snack and we have been happy with what we have received. A shout out to the toasted teacakes which are lovely.

We went for lunch and ordered x2 vegeterian all day breakfasts plus a kids meal. We was told there was at least a 30 minute wait for cooked food but we decided to wait anyway as we were not in a rush. Now we wish we hadn't. The breakfasts were very disappointing, as they were served, initially we thought there looked like a decent portion of food and were about to eat but were then interupted and told that they had forgotton to put the beans on our plates. Rather than dishing up the portion, the staff member left a very large dish of beans (maybe a whole can full) just on the table for us to sort out ourselves. Each item on the plate seemed to have fault, eggs were either over or undercooked (both plates different but brought out together) sausages tasted like they were left in a hotplate for hours, uncooked mushrooms, tomatoes cooked in old oil, toast was soggy from mushroom water/overdone in places on the other plate and hashbrown was probably the worst part, rocksolid and barely edible. After waiting so long we had expected better quality and are very sad to have to write this review as it would appear they were shortstaffed but the quality was very poor. We would not eat here again.

20 minutes wait for a round if toast and 2 bacon sandwiches is both a long time and also the quality if what eventually arrived was vert poor. Appreciate staffing levels are an issue, but you shouldn't offer the service if it cannot be staffed correctly.

Whilst walking the Cinder Trail from Cloughton to Scarborough as we arrived at the end of the trail in Sainsbury's car park we decide to have a coffee before doing the return walk. We were quite surprised at the quality of the coffee that they serve. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady who took our order. I had a toasted teacake & my wife a piece of carrot cake with our coffees. The teacake & carrot cake were excellent, plenty of fruit in the teacake & the coffees were very good. The cafe was very clean, as were the toilets. All Covid regulations were observed & we left to start our return walk to Cloughton refreshed.

I had hoped that with the time they've been closed, they might have taken steps to make all-round improvements, as part of the 'Fresh Kitchen' rebranding. No such luck. Despite a relatively high ratio of staff to customers, it still took a long time to get served and it wasn't worth the wait. I ordered Cod, chips and garden peas. The batter was stodgy and burnt, the cod was grey/brown in colour and didn't taste very nice. The chips were soggy and in very short supply and the peas looked and tasted like they'd been kept warm for several hours, or they were on their fourth or fifth round of recycling. Yes, the meal was cheap and cheerful, but you can get the same thing at Morrison's supermarket café, for a similar price and the quality is ten times as good. The one star is for the tea which, whilst unremarkable, was no worse than average. Will not be returning.

Got here at 5pm (Saturday). Surprised to not find a queue but then were told it was closed. Though there was still food on the counter. Website says open till 10 :( We have been here before, found food and staff pretty good. Pity they were closed today as we are just starting to go out again after isolating.

The quality of snacks and meals is just about tolerable, but there's always a bottleneck at the servery - even when the place is relatively quiet. Also the tables and chairs could do with hygienically cleaning during the day. Perhaps Sainsbury's could seek advice from Morrisons down the road with regard to adequate staffing levels, efficiency and presentation?

I wrote a review of this place over a year ago, where I said the quality of the food had declined steadily, over several years. Unfortunately, the decline continues. The restaurant is invariably understaffed, which means that a ten to twenty minute wait for a coffee, even at relatively quiet times, is not unusual. I just ordered fish & chips, in an effort to see if a dish they once did really well, had improved since my last visit. Unfortunately the news isn't very good as the meal was so poor, I had to send it back! The chips were overcooked, the peas were revolting and looked like they'd been recycled for about the third time. When the meal was brought back, the chips and peas were definitely better, but still wouldn't win any Dunlop stars, let alone Michelins. The fish is described as 'hand-battered', presumably to give it a more 'bespoke' feel, but how is one supposed to batter a piece of fish, apart from by hand? Overall, the fish was ok, without being exceptional, but the portion was tiny. This place gets worse every visit, but the impression is that the management just don't care as nothing changes. It could be argued that one gets what one pays for, but a visit to Morrison's supermarket in Scarborough, where the prices are similar, is a considerable contrast, with minimal waiting-time, much larger fish portions, cooked to a much higher standard. I live across the road from Sainsburys, but in future, will bite the bullet and travel the three or four miles to Morrison's, where I know I'll have a much better experience.

Called for a comfort break after a long drive. Toilets downstairs in a corner and rather well used - in need of a makeover. The cafe is upstairs, using either a travellator or a lift. I didn’t evidence any queue as mentioned by other reviewers but coffee wasn’t the best. Seating was basic but ok. Food was edible but nothing to get excited about. Although ok, there are better places nearby

I had the cheeseburger, wife had ham, egg and chips. Chips were revolting overcooked dark and limp a nd tasted of oil that is way past the point of needing to be changed. Burger was overcooked. Tomatoes were old and shrivelled. Thinnest ham ever covered in rancid oil. Absolute rubbish.

Use the restaurant regularly as live close by and shop in the supermarket, so convenient for me. Always found okay, enjoy their big breakfast. Only niggle is that staff seem reluctant to clear tables, they will bring your meal and not take previous users pots. Have frequently eaten meal with others pots on table. Not good.

My wife and I both enjoyed our breakfasts here at Sainsburys. I chose the Halloumi breakfast but with the vegetarian sausage instead, and my wife chose the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. We were both highly satisfied. My only niggle would be that I would have preferred to have my coffee served along with the meal because it had cooled down somewhat by the time we were served.

Sainsbury's cafe is a case of 'some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you'. The food is pretty standard supermarket café fare and is reasonably priced. Sad to say that the quality of the fish and chips, which used to be really excellent, has deteriorated significantly over the last couple of years. The standard of service is extremely variable. It is, on occasions, excellent, but far too often the standard is way below par, with uncleared, dirty tables proliferating. I do not blame the staff, the majority of whom work very hard, but under-staffing in the café seems to be policy, just as it appears to be on the checkouts.

The staff in here are lovely, couldn't do enough for us. I had three children with me & the waitress carried my tray, got a highchair & cutlery. Really helpful. Kids meals are fab, large & varied so lots of choice. Adults didn't eat so can't comment on main meals but the pots of tea were nice! Only gripe is that the kids meals come out piping hot...not idea for hungry little ones. However, the very helpful waitress did bring over cold plates to help cool them down! Good prices, quick service & clean tables. Definitely recommended.

Two toast, two eggs (very well cooked all white set yoke just starting to set perfect) only one veg sausage, 1/2 fresh tomato, good pile of beans and best of all a large proper mushroom fried not a pile of boiled buttons that lots use. Came here for a quick coffee. When served, we were introduced with a what you want. The lady looked as though she couldn't be bothered to serve anyone and had a horrible attitude. Then it came around to doing the drinks which she appeared to not want to do that as well. Fortunately a lad took over but he kept asking what we wanted and took far too long. Called in here June 29th. There were a few people in watching football in the afternoon. The barman couldn't have been any slower and after visiting the toilets, I told him there was no toilet roll in ladies, he acknowledged me but never moved to do anything about it. The rest of the staff were all on their mobile phones, not very professional. One plus, the music playing was fab, great dj

I have never seen such blatant racism in my life. This is 2024. People of colour and like minded people walking into this Jim Crow, antiquated backwards establish please be aware. To put a note not to offend is outrageous. We should be all tolerate of each others differences. Obviously a person who's not well versed and travelled. How can society move on when we have people who think that it's reasonable to offend people who are just enjoying their vacation. White privileges allows one to laugh, turn a blind eye or to offer a rationale for their inherent racism. Being White I can only apologise and say that the majority of educated White people just want to live in peace and unity. Should be ashamed. Schools visits! How do teachers explain gollywogs in todays society as being acceptable.
