Saffron Indian Restaurant in Highland

We've been regular diners at Saffron for years but this was our first visit since it was acquired by new owners. We had a sharing meal with friends and every single dish was a winner, with a complex layering of spices resulting in delicious flavours. The service from the staff was exemplary.

It the worst we have ever had, I ask lamd got chicken, both our meals were warm they replaced mine and the lamb was tuff complained and it was nothing to then, got the price of the meat taken of my bill but would never NEVER RECOMMEND

Travelling through on our way north, we felt like an Indian meal and were very impressed by the quality, the idiosyncratic nature of some of the dishes and the high standard of service. Prices perhaps just a little higher than we're used to in similar restaurants but then the experience is better at this very impressive establishment. Quotes on menu and decor suggest a sense of community responsibility and commitment which makes Saffron all the more impressive. We wish it well and hope to visit again next time we're up in Scotland!

I give the 2 points for the waiter who gave good and friendly service . We had two curries and chicken pakora .We asked for both meals to be spiced up a bit when ordering . The lamb balti arrived , nicely presented . The food was tasteless , practically no spice and I struggled to find the lamb . The chicken pakora was clearly freshly made but with very little tast .My partner had chicken bhuna with no taste .Baring in mind we did ask for extra chilli

After an 18k hike around loch affric, we ordered a thali to collect. Amazing food beautifully prepared and so tasty! When we’re back to do the etape loch ness, this will be our reward! Thanks so much!

We have had 2 deliveries recently from Saffron and they were both fantastic. I had the tandoori chicken tikka (no sauce) both times and it was the best I've ever had,so tender and beautifully marinated. My husbands curries were fresh and tasty both times. Highly recommended for on time delivery and great fresh meals.

So tasty and scrummy. Lots of veggie paneer dishes and always a little extra thrown in. Cannot fault.

Best Indian restaurant and takeaway I’ve ever had. Been at least 10 times now and had takeaway several times, could not fault it once. Friendly staff, beautiful decor and amazing food. Bring your own booze is great too. Yet to try the vegan menu but very excited for next time I go! 100% recommend. Also the ‘yellow sauce’ that comes with pakora dishes is the best thing I’ve ever tasted!

Visited tonight with friends. Easy to book by phoning. The restaurant was beautiful and cosy, the COVID social distancing put us at ease with the tables being separated as well as having screens between them. The staff were extremely lovely and attentive. The food was by far the best Indian food I’ve had in the highlands, it was seasoned beautifully and it all tasted very fresh. We will all be returning soon, what a delightful experience. Also great as it’s bring your own bottle or their is soft drinks on offer also.

We ordered takeaway from the vegan menu and it was excellent. Portions were generous and the staff was super friendly. Look forward to ordering again!

We booked this after reading other reviews on trip advisor. We are so glad we did. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside but step inside and the welcome is warm and the service faultless. The food is absolutely delicious and the menu brilliantly varied. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us chose depending on the heat we liked! The BYOB is brilliant too and there is a shop next door if you forget to bring yours.

Well just came home from the best Indian we have had in a long time faultless and the young man that served us what a credit to the place everything was so tasty the chicken melted in your mouth even the poppadom sauces were in lovely dishes and loads of it aswell definitely worth the taxi ride even during Covid the atmosphere was cosy and warm thankyou for a lovely meal

Such beautiful food, with a great range of really interesting dishes. Really lovely touches and the waiter Connor was really knowledgeable and the service was fantastic! Would absolutely recommend and felt very safe with regards to Covid.

Visited from Glasgow to Inverness and had takeaway delivered to our cottage. Staff so friendly and accommodating when took our order and finding where we were staying- great service! Best Indian we have ever had. Tasty, non greasy with some interesting unique dishes on menu- mustard based curry being one of them!! Gutted we don’t live local to make this a regular thing.

After looking at the great reviews, we booked a table here...so glad we did! The food was amazing, and the staff were so polite and very attentive - giving us lot’s of local recommendations. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Inverness!

Fantastic restaurant. Food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and attentive. We came by this restaurant after checking trip advisor for Indian restaurants. It’s very unassuming from the outside, and you could easily drive past it and not know it’s in the area, but I’d encourage you all to visit. Totally worth it.

Visitors to Inverness so we checked Tripadvisor for an Indian restaurant local to our base. Wasn't disappointed. Tasty dishes, polite staff and decent value. Not a large space for a restaurant but still Covid safe and worth a try.

We found this restaurant on trip advisor and managed to get a table. Nice waiter and v. good service; our mains came 15 mins (ish) after ordered. Wide range of food including lots of veggie stuff and a section of more healthy food. We had a few dals, a plain naan and one of the healthy options (light chicken skewer with assorted salads and veg)- all were delicious. To top things off, our hand towels arrived in the shape of tablets, then formed into warm scented towels when water was poured on them. All in all, a great meal. [P.S the phone number on trip adviser doesn’t work, instead you need to use the one found on maps app (apple) or google].

Lovely friendly restaurant with really nice relaxed interior. Food was fantastic after struggling for a good Indian restaurant would deffo go back the team were really accomadating and each dish was cooked to perfection.

Decided to book this Restaurant on our visit to Inverness due to being the highest rated on TripAdvisor. Was not disappointed; Table service was excellent, and the food was great. And easily able to accommodate both gluten free and peanut allergies.

We had an incredible family meal at Saffron whilst holidaying in Scotland. The food and service was 5 star quality for great prices and their BYO booze policy makes the price even better. The restaurant are ensuring customer’s safety with hand sanitiser and unique room dividers which pose as artwork. All staff wore masks and the entire restaurant including the toilets is in pristine clean condition.

I am often disappointed by Indian food that is bland and lacks character. The Saffron did not disappoint - great quality and flavours. I recommend the Authentic Massala

First time visit to this friendly and presentable restaurant. We chose the chicken biryani and korma with clay oven naan from menu, including vegetable pakora as starter. Absolutely amazing food, loved everything and cleaned my plates. The staff were so attentive and helpful, we were well looked after. You can choose the spiciness of your curry as everything is made fresh as you can tell by look of your platter. Will definitely be back again.

I have eaten here about 7 or 8 times over the last year with my partner. We have always compared it to the standard of mother India in Glasgow. Our starters where okay, no sauce for pakora, bhaji or lamb. Waitress provided a large portion of mango yoghurt when requested. Seasoning was a little under. Mains came out, lamb was tasty but the prawn dish had a smell both my partner and I caught very quickly. It turned out to be the peppers in the dish where slimy and definitely off. Prawns and the rest where okay but a little bland. We did not eat the dish once we found the culprit. When we brought it to the kitchens attention they denied it and argued that the where fresh at the table. Came to the bill and behold the off food was still charged to us. Once I said I’m not paying for that it was removed instantly. Food quality has dropped by about 60% and portion sizes have gotten smaller in my opinion. I hope it’s just an off day, maybe with the 50% off eating out they have made them smaller. Who knows. Doubt we will go back anytime soon, such a shame.

Ordered a take-away from Saffron on 7th August 2020, because it had the best Indian restaurant reviews in trip advisor in the Inverness area, where we were holidaying. Our order was a king prawn biryani, a chicken tikka madras, a chicken tikka vindaloo, 2 naan bread and poppadoms. All in, about £43. I like hot curry so I had the vindaloo; it was bland and mild and was made with plain chicken, not tikka. The chicken madras was the same but even more tasteless, and again not made with marinated chicken tikka, but plain chicken. The only difference between these curry’s was the vindaloo had very slightly more curry powder. Both were really disappointing. My wife had the king prawn biriyani. She said it was ok. However, this is the only time we have ever had a biriyani that didn’t come with a vegetable curry sauce...perhaps Saffron forgot? (We drove 15 miles to get to saffron so it was not worth going back). The naan breads and poppadom were ok. I definitely recommend going somewhere else as this was one of the worst Indian takeaways we have ever had

Fab curry house tucked away next door to a co op- very handy as can take your own wine. Food was delicious. Service was brilliant. Very friendly staff. Curry was excellent, demolished by every one of us. Highly recommend!

We ordered the thali the Bhuna was so watery and tasteless , we have had a take out from here last year which is why we came back, overall for 22 quid it was a very disappointing experience, I ate the Popadom and some of the naan , the dhansak was tasteless as was the tandoori chicken , I don’t normally complain but this was really bad

Travelling from Stornoway to Dundee with my daughter on a Monday evening I would have normally stopped over in Pitlochry, Dunkeld or Perth for dinner.However, my usual haunts were closed on this occasion, so I looked on 'trip advisor' for an alternative.How glad I did. As an avid lover of Indian food, I chose the 'Saffron' in Inverness based on the favourable reviews.The 'Saffron' is located in an unusual location, but 'never the less' close to the A9 and handy on my route home.I opted for the 'Naga' chicken curry with pilau rice, which was also recommended by the waiter.Quite often when dining in Indian restaurants, I find this dish to be either excessively hot or swimming in oil, that I am often left disappointedI am more than pleased to say that my dish was neither of these. The sauce was thick and tasty with the right amount of heat of that distinctive 'Naga chili' flavour.I loved every morsel and will definitely be back for a second helping

From sending a private message to enquire about booking a table at 730pm,the staff promptly replied and arranged to book a table for us. As it was very busy,they got us a table at 8pm. The staff were very professional and friendly. The food was amazing. Think its the best chasni,l've ever tasted. The restaurant and toilets were spotless. At the end of the meal,the waiter performed a small magic trick involving hot towels. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.( ps,we were on holiday from Renfrewshire)

I wanted to try out Saffron for months, but as it requires a cycle uphill, I could never get myself to do it. Eat out to help out scheme was the push I needed! I ordered 4 different things plus a cocktail (non-alco) and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them! Everything was delicious, though could have been more spicy - and this is not a complaint, just a note to everyone who's cautious about ordering spicy food. At Saffron, just go for it. Everything was flavourful and well-balanced.Staff was exceptional. Attentive, friendly, professional.I'll be back. The cycle's worth it.

We were on the way home via Inverness following a camping trip. Was craving something spicy so given the great reviews ordered from Saffron. We got lamb biriyani and a tandoori mixed grill. It smelt delicious but it was a total disappointment. It was lacking in salt and although we requested “medium” spice it wasn’t spicy AT ALL! This is definitely catered for a more western palate.The portion sizes were good, there was a lot of biriyani and the gravy that came with it. The lamb was very tender and overall wasn’t too oily as most takeout food are. The onion relish that came with the order was good although the mango yoghurt had curdled. They were on time with their order and was efficient on collection given the covid-19 precautions that need to be taken. Overall I was disappointed as I was expecting more flavour, more spice and definitely better salted food.

Fancied a curry while on holiday near Inverness, and we weren’t disappointed. Pleased we booked a table as they were busy all evening, and it’s a small and cosy place. Food was excellent, tasted very fresh and ‘adapted’ to our spice taste (milder for the kids/hotter for me).Great for families - relaxed atmosphere, very pleasant staff, good menu including the puddings (which are often a bit disappointing at an Indian restaurant, but certainly not here!).Don’t be put off by the unassuming surroundings, it’s a great curry and we’ll be back when next in the area. Staying in Inverness for a few days, and off the back of some really strong review we decided to booked the Saffron. The restaurant is a few miles from the centre of town, but very much worth travelling to. Starters were really tasty (Pakora and Lamb Tikka), and our mains were equally as good (Balti and Chasni) and the Peshwari naan was amazing. Service was top notch, very pleasant and attentive. If I was a local I would regularly visit this restaurant. Lastly this is a ‘bring your own bottle’ venue. However bonus price there is a Co-Op literally next door. Thanks.

This is the best Indian restaurant I've been to, me and my girlfriend frequent everytime we visit. The food is incredible and the staff are the friendliest and most welcoming that I've visited. I recommend to everybody. 5 stars

We ordered a take away meal last night. We were given a time of 20 minutes. I turned up to collect after 20 minutes and it was being packed up there and then. Perfect timing!The food was absolutely delicious, four different mains, all equally tasty. The rice was light and fluffy, the naan bread was garlicky and light. Really lovely meal. We’ll be back!

Unfortunately we chose the Saffron for my birthday meal which was also Father’s Day, placed the order at 6.05pm was told it would be 1 hour 40 mins which was a long time but we agreed, I called them at 8.20pm when dinner still hadn’t arrived to be told they were sorry it had left with the driver and was on its way to us!!!! Tried calling again at 8.45pm just got an engaged tone so sent a Facebook message - they did reply and agreed it wasn’t an acceptable wait, Dinner arrived at 9pm!!!! Almost 3 hours after ordering, we were told by a message on messenger we would be called the next day to get a refund, 3 days on no phonecall no refund, so disappointing - the food was ok when it arrived but we were so hungry by 9pm anything would have been good

I've visited Saffron four times, twice before lockdown and twice this week, every time the service has been efficient and the food very enjoyable. Last night I had a Naga curry which was fairly hot and had a great depth of flavour, highly recommended with veg rice and a naan. I'm back in Durham tonight and wishing Saffron was closer!

Our first Indian meal in Inverness and the bar has been set high. Currently the top-rated Indian in the area, so we thought it would be worth trying. Online ordering was OK (a bit confusing at check-out), but the delivery arrived promptly by a polite gentleman in a Saffron shirt. The food was excellent and the portions were typical Indian container size, which means another similar-sized meal tomorrow of the food we couldn't eat tonight. Highly recommended.

1st time trying Saffron. WOW! It was fantastic. Couldn’t believe how hot the food was when it arrived. The pickle tray & poppadums were lovely. Our main dishes.....Lamb Pathia & Lamb Dhansak were amazing. The Pilau rice was light & lucious. The garlic naan was just fantastic. Needless to say, we will be going back for more of their loveliness.

My partner and I have ordered takeaway food from here on numerous occasions in the past. We have always found the service to be very attentive and friendly with a good attitude from all staff. The food is also delicious, fresh and tasty.The quality of their service really stood out lately in response to an order that didn't quite go right for us. It's often to the response to issues like these that are the true measure of quality customer service.On ordering just over a week ago, my partner's curry wasn't what she ordered and my pakoras were too well fired to be enjoyed. The team at Saffron were incredibly busy following a lockdown reopening, so we understood how these mistakes can happen. However, my partner was unable to eat her curry because it was so hot and we decided to let the shop know of our issue in live time. The team were so apologetic and made sure they made us fresh orders of both dishes and delivered them within 15 minutes (with fresh poppadoms and apologies). This was really fantastic service and didn't even make a dent in our dinner plans. Simply superb, even at a challenging time. For this reason and their consistently good quality food and service, I would recommend this business to anyone. Much better than most takeaways in Inverness, you won't be disappointed!

So pleased to see Saffron open, even if only for takeaway at present but with great service. Both dishes had great flavour and excellent sized portions. Even the packaging and labelling of the dishes was spot on.

Fui aquí durante las vacaciones. muchos platos inusuales en el menú junto con el tradicional. Starter se colocó debajo de una tapa llena de humo para agregar un poco más de drama. Los platos principales fueron igual de asombrosos. Pedimos a los especiales de la casa y lo cocinaron al calor que ambos queríamos. El personal fue muy amable y atento. Definitivamente volveré aquí la próxima vez que estemos en la zona.

We are in holiday from Norfolk and I chose Saffron because of the excellent reviews . Unfortunately we either picked a bad evening for a takeaway or picked the wrong thing as we had 4 chicken Kormas and they were the most wateriest tastless Kormas we’ve had. Everything else was lovely though .

We was stopping overnight in Inverness so I used TripAdvisor to find this lovely little restaurant, we so glad we did the food was excellent and so was the service, just a bit of advise on Google it just says takeaway but it is a small restaurant what does takeaways also.

The menu had a wide range of options. The quality of the food was excellent as was the service. The restaurant is clean and busy, however the service never suffers.

The food was good, the pricing was OK, the staff is very kind. We could share a large pot of tea. On weekends, best to make a reservation. The restaurant is in a suburb of Inverness, with parking space in front. Worth while the trip!

Had a delicious meal with friends at this amazing restaurant. On entering you receive a very friendly welcome. The decor is warm and the restaurant spotlessly clean. The staff are attentive and were really a credit to the place. The food menu was varied and when it came totally delicious. Felt very comfortable there and will return.

This restaurant tucked away from passing trade is well worth hunting out. With a wide ranging menu covering all the favourites and plenty of interesting variations the biggest challenge is deciding what to order. It shouldn’t be though as it is all perfectly prepared, presented and delicious. The restaurant does not sell alcohol but you can bring your own or buy it next door. While Indian restaurants are renowned for good service, the service we received in the Saffron was in a different league as it was obvious that everyone genuinely wanted us to enjoy our visit which we did. The restaurant, although small, has a nice ambiance and whilst it does a roaring takeaway trade this in no way detracts from the dine in experience. Overall very highly recommended and I will definitely be going back.

We had a delivery a week ago & tonight, both were excellent! We are the other side of town & it still only took about 45 minutes. All the curry's were, great chips were still hot warm & crispy. Also sat in for meals a few times and everytime was giving warm welcome, friendly & great service! Thank you everyone at Saffron, looking forward to next week already!

Visited this restaurant with friends, the welcome was warm and although small there is a good atmosphere. The food was very good, and presented well. Rice can be a bit hit or miss for me but the mushroom rice was flavourful and the peshwari naan was light and tasty, we all had different curries and they were all really good. This is a B.Y.O.B restaurant but there is a Co-Op right next door if you want to bring alcohol. The service was attentive but not intrusive, we felt very welcome and will definitely be returning

Came here on a whistle stop stay in Inverness, checked trip advisor for reviews which were good so I booked...the place is difficult to find as it’s located in a strange place next to a co-op

We ordered a delivery after several months as we have always had poor service in hope they had improved. No they were 50 minutes late, food arrived cold and the meat was so over cooked you couldn’t cut it. When I called to ask where the food was I was told on its way 3 times before they actually called the driver... avoid if you are looking for nice food and good service

Read the reviews for this restaurant so decided to give it a go on a Saturday night with no booking. Were shown to a table straight away, were advised they needed the table back after an hour and a half which we were happy with. Loved the decor, very clean and well laid out even though a bit small. Menu was extensive, loads of choice for us vegetarians, couldn't make my mind up with so much choice. Order was taken and didnt have to wait long before order was brought to the table. Staff are super friendly and attentive. Food was simply amazing. Price was mid range but worth it. Looking forward to our next visit. Also it is byob but there is a supermarket next door if you want to take your own alcohol in with you.

First time here. We were touring. It could be tricky to find on the without phone map etc. Postcode is IV2 5WD for phone maps. Small, cosy, Indian. Friendly welcome and excellent service throughout by all. Food was excellent. Lovely mushroom pakora, and Balti and Korma mains. Beautifully spiced and well presented. We were driving so no drinks, but I believe you can BYO from Coop shop right next door. Will definately return. Highly recommend.

We have heard about this place and saw it had won awards so gave it a try. Service excellent and food was delicious. Small but perfectly formed restaurant. Loved the music playing in the background.

I have known the owner of this restaurant since he was a wee boy. He has turned out to be a fine young man. The food is excellent - really appreciate the consistency - each time you know what you're getting.

Stunning hosts and great food. Though the location is not easy to find without knowing, the dishes were delicious and well-spiced. Funny fact: You can bring your own alcoholic drinks you have bought from the supermarket next to it.

My partner and I were staying at lodges close to Inverness. We thought it would be good to order an Indian takeaway and take it back to the lodge. We researched best Indian takeaways in Inverness and Saffron appeared to be the best.

We were looking for something besides Pub food and read the reviews on Trip Advisor for the Saffron Indian Restaurant. They are understated! The food is fantastic and the staff, especially Conner, was most helpful in suggested selections. Since we read the reviews we knew it was a BYO establishment; we were glad we brought our own wine.

Had a meal last night. Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Service was superb. Nothing was too much trouble. Menu choices brilliant. Even had healthy options. Which I choice we all agreed the food was superb. Came from different parts of UK so lots of experience. This was 1st class. Well done to all.

My husband and I hadn’t been here before & was recommended by a friend. So glad we went! Food was amazing and so tasty & cooked by the owners parents. Staff so friendly and prices reasonable. Will definitely go back again and recommend other people to.

The dinner was absolutely stunning. Loved the biryani and naan bread all freshly made and personalised service by very friendly staff. Totally recommend anyone looking for that exceptional experience.

After a week doing NC500 and eating nothing but steak we were dying for a curry. Bring your own beer and enjoy. First class meal a real treat.
