Horrible don’t know how to cook the pies it was raw with hardly any filling

Two pie one mash liquor and a can of drink all under a £10 note. Great tasting pie and mash and a welcoming atmosphere, will be back.

First visit to this pie shop at the age of 9 ( now 56) after moving from the Broad way market pie shop My mum /me /my boy/ now (33) and now my granddaughter 4 generations don't think this tradition will last for a fifth sad

Looked after very well as soon as we walked in. Enjoyed my pie and mash haven't had any for such a long time.

The place has a cute old-school vibe and the lady serving us was very friendly. Sadly though the food was terrible - this is exactly why pie and mash shops are increasingly hard to find: the food they serve is dire! Lumpy mash, flavourless sauce that tastes like it’s out a packet, pies with dried out pastry and revolting filling. This place could be an institution but instead it’s an embarrassment 👎

What's there not to like? Good food at a great price.

Lovely pie, mash and liquor, washed down with a mug of tea. Fast service. Absolutely 100%. I look forward to coming back again soon soon.

I really enjoyed the food. The Pie had a great filling and the mash tasted like something my grandmother would prepare. Really great, simple food. For a plate of Pie & Mash and a drink I paid less than 6 or 7 founds if I recall correctly, which is totally worth the price. The staff was friendly and the lady at the counter was lovely. I am definitely coming back!

My friend and I decided we would share some memories of the Bethnal Green area where we were brought up and went to School. We wanted to have Pie and Mash for lunch. All I can say is what a disappointment! On reading that this business has been in operation for over 100 years, you'd have thought that the current management would know how to create excellent pies with crispy, succulent pastry with a delicious meat filling that makes your mouth water? The pastry was virtually inedible. It was like cardboard and very difficult to cut into. Surroundings very poor with steamed up windows making the whole place look second rate. I doubt on this performance whether S and R Kelly & Sons will be in business a year from now, let alone another 100 years. Awful experience, never to be repeated!

I was recommended this place by a family friend of mine (James Whiter). I must say that I am very happy that he told me about this, the food and staff were excellent!!! I will definitely be going back soon!!!

Pies a dried out on top and a little hard. But still very enjoyable. I did enjoy my carton of orange. Brought back memories of being younger (most shops don't have these now).

Great place has wonderful food the lady Julie is bubbly and always ready to help.

I have been going to the same Pie n Mash shop for 20 years plus, so for me there is a bench mark. I am quest to visit as many of their competitors, to see how they compare. Sadly this one is one of worst, shops I have visited so far. For a lunch time it was empty apart from one regular customer. The staff were friendly enough. As I cut into the pie, oil oozed out. The pie crust was hard and the bottom of the pie was not only soggy but bordering on raw. The meat inside was just moulded into one pinkish lump surrounded by oily gravy. The liquor was tasteless and the colour more grey than green. The mash was the best part of the meal, but again had no flavour. Only positive thing I can say is that it was at least hot. Alas, on the day I visited, they didn't have any eels. The sign says it was Est. 1915, I am amazed that it has survived that long, dishing up such awful food.

Worst pie and mash ever pie was stoggy. The top was chewy. The mash was very bland . The decor looked like a shack . painted with a job lot of blue gloss, nothing resembled old london it was a real disappointment I knew I should have gone to my usual in roman rd.

Tough pastry and not much filling in thr pies. Mash was slightly lumpy too. To be fair I was served 15 mins before they closed at 2pm. So will try again at a different time.

Closed early on me (14:20 instead of 14:30). On a Saturday. And then have the cheek to moan they've got no trade. Stupid opening hours for a Saturday anyway. No other choice in Bethnal, wish some other enterprising soul would deliver and put them out of business.

This small pie shop is a local institution. Meat pie shops are threatened in East London and S & R Kelly is holding on against a trend of neighborhood change. The food was good and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I'm too much of an outsider to give a more detailed evaluation. It was worth a visit for the experience.

The people leaving 5 star reviews are either family or friends. I used to eat here daily back in the late 80s and I as an expert in pie n mash considered it to be one of the best in London even though I'm from South London..went there today and paid £5 to park my motor..Ordered 2 pie n mash with liquor.£6.80 for 2 dinky pies n mash..but I'd suffer it if the quality was still as good..O.M.G was I disappointed. The pastry was Thick- Hard and chewy ..God knows what meat it was but it was rank..The mash and liquor was cold.. I was still trying to breakdown bits of the hard pastry with my teeth after leaving the shop and ended up spitting it out.. This pie n mash shop has gone down hill badly..don't waste your money..Go south of the river to Arments in Walworth..They set the bar..

Went here around 1pm, Sat 2/4 with my daughter. I have to say, absolutely brilliant pie, mash and liquor. Love the nostalgic, family memorabilia and the staff were friendly. Please give this local, traditional, family business your support.

went today was very disappointed the liquor was like water and the pie and mash was floating in it and the pies were like leather maybe they were having a off day but was not for me

Best pie and mash in London they have another shop in Debden as well I believe. Soon as you cut the pie open the meat juices run out that’s when you know they’re made properly !

Been a few years since I've had pie mash here. Ordered single pie, single mash and liquor. Huge portion of old school mash, loads of liquor, pies ain't changed, crisp pastry, average meat content, value for money, front of house and cook friendly, good value for money meal.

Proper pie and mash! If you want the real deal stuff then this is the place to go. If your into jellied eels then you can get them too. It's cash only too so remember to go to the cash machine before you arrive. Lovely lady runs the place too

Some of the best pie and mash in London you know on a Friday after you've had a hard day at work and you go to the pub and you know you'll have a quick take out well get up Saturday and go there because believe me if you're drinking again you're going to need it ha ha sometimes even sneak away from them persistent friends you just want to drink in the pub all day

I've been a customer of S R Kelly since the early fifties, (instead of eating vile school meals I would often go to Kelly's for some really wholesome pie and mash), they have always maintained a high quality in food and service. Sadly my old schoolmate Sammy Kelly is no longer with us. His parents made the best pie, mash, jellied or stewed eels in London. The pie and mash is still the best! Get there soon before another East End landmark vanishes.

Iv been going to f.cooks since I had teeth 😬 I missed having pie and mash and thought il give this place a try, sadly the pie was almost raw and mash was hardly mashed 🙃 . Save your money don't come here or order.

Been brought up with pie and mash from this shop, so might be biased, but there is only one other that I would go to and I rate them completely equally. I love that pie and mash from here has not changed over the years, but they also offer more types of condiments nowadays for those who can't eat anything that isn't spicy. I like my pie and mash traditional, (mash not scooped in an ice-cream scoop!) with a meaty pie, loads of liquor and salt, pepper and vinegar and they do the old-fashioned vinegar here that is less watered down

Ate here over many years and staff seem to be more miserable each time, one day at 13:10hrs went in for pie and mash to take away and no mash! What a shame, used to be a good shop, so next time will go to G Kelly up the road, not wasting time again

Visited with a group of old school friends from the East End. As the other pie n mash shop was closed down the road, they had a run on and actually run out of mash. Still great pies and liquor and had the best jellied eels I’d had for a long time. Will definitely go back.

My favourite place for lunch from my school days, still run by the same people and I've got to say the 2 & 2 I had went down a treat, absolutely quality. Great Pies, Great Mash, Great Liquor, proper portions and not an ice cream scoop in sight, scraped mash not scooped! Just as I remembered it...I'll definitely be back soon.

Small portions. Not good value for money.

Working in Bethnal Green Road, had to choose between two pie and mash shops nearby, and this one got the nod today. Small shop, nothing fancy but food wasn’t bad, good sized portions, although could’ve been a bit hotter for my liking and the pie crusts were a bit on the chewy side. Would still recommend and pop in again when in the area.

This was a pleasant experience compared to the shop up the road. The tea was mouth watering,the pie n mash perfect and the lady behind the counter was lovely. Definatly will be returning.

Poor service, no food left. I've eaten here a number of times and whilst not the best pie and mash, it's not too bad and more than edible. Sadly though my last visit was a huge disappointment. Arrived at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon, a full 90 minutes before they shut to be told they had run out of pie and mash. I was then informed by the chef it was "pot luck" as the whether they have food or not as they only cook a certain amount every day. Given a 3 hour journey i find it unacceptable that this sort of attitude to customers exists.

I have eaten here quite a few times, and whilst it’s not my favourite pie and mash, it’s alway rated well. However today was unfortunately my last visit, turned up at 1:30 to be told they had run out of food. Initially I thought that meant a ten to fifteen minute wait, but nope they had actually run out of food, Now if I had turned up ten minutes before they closed, then ok my fault however I got there for 1:30 and they close at 3:30 two hours before they close. Then to confound the issue the chef tells me it’s pot luck whether they run out or not. So having traveled 3 hours for my favourite meal I was left hungry, disappointed and angry. Never again....

I went to get my lunch today and I got 2 pies and a large parsley sauce it come to £5.60 and when I got to work I started to eat the pie and to me it seamed pink inside I asked my collages and they agreed with me, I don't understand why they don't seasoned the pie as there is no taste at all

Another great pie and mash shop that holds on to its traditional roots, no pretending just good old fashion pie and mash, keep it real and dont let the trendy people that saturate the area get their way by serving veggie pies or even things like chicken tikka pies I have been there when this was asked for.

This place is awful... the tables have gum on top of the table and at the bottom; really a horrible unpleasant place to eat..But the most distuburing issue is when I found a fly in the mash

By far the best Pie and Mash anywhere in London. There are a few Pie and Mash shops in Bethnal Green but the only reason you would go to the others are if you're A) A tourist or B) misinformed. I've been coming here most my life and have tried Pie and Mash all over London and Essex (Why Essex even bother is beyond me). The staff are lovely, portions sizes are great value for money and something to look out for (Liqor should NOT be aluminise Green!! It's a parsley sauce NOT Kryptonite.) and this place gets it spot on!!

A great pie and mash shop located in the east end. Basic and no trimmings but exactly what you want from a good old London traditional pie and mash shop. We were served by a couple of locals who added the authenticity needed for such a food stop. Food was good and plentiful. Great place - I'll be back
