I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I received during with my friend’s visiting to your bar on saturday. Not only was the bar overcrowded, but I was also refused service in a manner that I found both unprofessional and rude. After waiting for a significant amount of time, I attempted to order drinks, only to be met with a dismissive attitude from the bartender. When I asked for assistance, the bartender ignored my request and made no effort to acknowledge my presence, despite me being clearly visible. When I approached the bar again to ask why I had been ignored and was waiting long time to be served I was told that they were “too busy” and “time to close “to serve me, which was extremely disrespectful.

Lovely venue and atmosphere, but truly poor bar service. ‘Who is next’, ‘ I dont know if that is the lager you asked for’. My heart sinks when I hear that. Then the pizza, again for the money it should be better. Either go cheap and accept the quality , or keep those prices and up the product. What makes it work is the venue, the canal, the buzz.

Ok. Lots to unpack here. Really good vibes. Great music! 5 stars for atmosphere. But let me get to the pizzas… heard they were legendary… and… they’re nice, sure. Yes the place was packed, but I was never told our pizzas would take a whole hour to arrive. (My friend ordered a pizza after me and told me). After 1h30m of waiting for two margarita pizzas, I finally went to ask the bartender where the pizza was? He came back with my pizzas in to go boxes (even though I gave them my table number). So he gave it to us and while they were nice… they were cold! I just don’t get it? They bake the pizzas in batches and that’s fine I guess, but why did my pizzas not get delivered to my table? Why did they randomly assume I wanted take away? Did they go around the floor and not see that my table was table 100 aka the one for the pizzas? The bartender didn’t know what happened, just apologised and gave the pizzas to me. But they were…. Cold….. I realise this was a one off mistake because my friend who ordered a pizza 30 mins after me got her pizza before mine (what caused me to ask the bartender about where my pizza was) omg sorry I just ranted but like UGH it’s so annoying to have tasty things ruined because they are COLD! So yeah 4 stars for flavours, 2 for service, 5 for atmosphere byeeeee

Idk why but each time it actually starts tasing better. Today I held in my two hands one gluteny crust, and one GF. They felt the same ish texture. Crunch, similar; GF if not better. The top and bottom sides were equally cooked (grilled toasted idk what they do to these, in a red room, under pink lights). I managed to finish the WHOLE pizza by myself. Ps. Want the num of the chef😝 jk

Coeliacs and gluten intolerants beware! After being a customer for so many years, I found myself on duty to flag an extremely concerning situation from today 17 Nov 2024 at 1.30pm. As a Gluten Intolerant i’ve always found this place very welcoming as they offer Gluten Free pizza. But today they have mistaken my order and made me eat gluten, breaking my strict diet and putting my health at risk. I’ve ordered one Gluten Free pizza and one normal one. The bar woman took the order normally, and understood clearly well, but called my attention that she didn’t ask ‘is it an allergy or intolerance?’ as they usually do. I even asked for a GF beer and she said ‘our lager is GF’ which it had no ‘GF’ signage but, OK, I trusted her, and even tipped the staff as usual. Worth clarifying it wasn’t a busy day, so there’s no excuses. Then our order came, first my pizza, and 15 mins later my partner’s pizza. Once my partner’s pizza arrived I’ve noticed they were too similar. There’s always a difference in the dough between a GF and a normal one. By that time I’ve already eaten mine completely. We double-checked by asking the waiter and after a while she comes back apologizing and confessing they confused the order with another table and offered us ‘free drinks’ as if this was a solution. I was speechless and then soon came back with the refund. This is a serious mistake that can end up in a serios incident. I’ll raise a complaint to Hackney’s corresponding body but I hope they train their staff accordingly. Today was a stomachache but someone can get seriously injured.

The Draft beer here is so, so good and although we went for just the 1 ended up having 3 or 4 each. Only downside is that it’s quite expensive at c. £7 a pint but that’s becoming the place at most places now (August 2024). I have to agree with the post below regarding the service at Crate behind the bar. This was my third time visiting Crate. When we arrived yesterday there was no one waiting at the bar, however after waiting to be served by one of the two bartenders, we resorted to standing in front of the girl behind the bar and interrupting her conversation. She appeared most annoyed that we had dared to ask for drink. The next time we returned to the bar the place was slightly busier, however the pace of the service behind the bar was painfully slow. This I don’t particularly have an issue with, it is a busy bar on a Saturday. However the staff behind the bar could not have appeared less impressed. Each server was miserable, dismissive and seemingly irritated by having to pull a pint. Then the card machine asks for a tip which is laughable to be honest. Crate’s appeal is its great location and great beer, so perhaps people are less fussed if the bar service is rubbish. I write this not to do the place down, but to make a comment that the bar staff we experienced yesterday (and on previous visits,) are doing a disservice to a great place. At least hire people who don’t resent you for asking for a beer.

Instead of addressing the issue, they came to our table, showed little concern, and questioned why we didn’t just accept the wrong order. To make matters worse, the manager approached us as if we had intentionally taken someone else’s food, which was quite frustrating. The beer was mediocre at best.

I found my experience at Crate to be uncomfortable and oppressive. We approached the bar. Our first attempt brought us within 5-6 metres but our path was blocked by around 60 people and a laboured service. Sharp elbows; calculated dips of the shoulder, less subtle defiance - various tactics used to get within 15 minutes of a pint, let alone the 30 minutes that less aggressive customers would be left to wait. I loved rugby at school - something about that organised chaos - but I'd not experienced a scrum like this before. So we'd made it to the bar. Our order had been placed. The 20-minute wait on the kitchen was clearly emphasised, something we could accept. Various pizzas came and went, but not ours. A mix-up of sorts but the remaining pizzas were not served. Note: I would now like to express my dearest thanks to your server, Bognar. Clearly ours and a litany of orders had been mis-managed. The aforementioned member of staff showed consummate professionalism, generously bringing us a free drink and ensuring our pizza arrived a mere 45 minutes after ordering. It was my understanding that pizzas cooked in under 5 minutes but perhaps I'm mistaken. What can you take from slow bar and food service, as well as inhospitably loud music? Well, this was not my first time at Crate (possibly my seventh or eighth). Pivot back to 2016, Hackney Wick was far from it's current status as 'the spot'. It was a tranquil place, with a genuine character - something that clearly has been lost along the way. But that's how the city goes. From the clearly underpaid staff to the boosted bass, to the minimum £7 pints (sorry, what?) and the embarrassing service. Crate has lost its way and whilst I'll join my mate's birthday there, I won't choose to frequent an obvious sellout if it were up to me.

It has been many years since I visted WG and I remember it being a centre of quality and challenge. Yesterday I took some friends as we were in the area and I was embarrassed by how bad it was. I didn't pay for the exhibition but still expected the free areas to have content of value. Nothing. Atrocious. At times we were stood in rooms looking at some scattered papers not knowing if it was meant to be an exhibit or not. A beautiful building full of lost potential. Scandalous.

Visited on a Sunday morning, around 09:45 for breakfast with my daughter and husband, when we arrived we were “greeted” by a lady in a woollen jumper who asked us to sit at a table near the door, no menus were offered, we managed to get someone’s attention and get menus, to then be totally ignored for another 10/15 mins. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived but on leaving was full with people waiting, so no real reason for the lack of service to start when they seemed to pick up later, not sure if we were given a table that normally isn’t serviced as was not set up. Ordered a salmon bagel, eggs and toast and crumpets, all arrived loverly and the food tasted brilliant, Shame in regards to the slow and moody service.
