Great vibes, chilled by the canal

Buzzing little bar near the olimpic stadium was packed the Tuesday night I went

Nice enough place when you’re not dealing with the people who work there. Been about 80 times, and every time the staff at the bar are miserable and dismissive of everyone who dares ask for something. We actually joke about it at work (we’re local). And they have the cheek to ask for a tip despite us going to them to order. Then when you don’t they get even more dismissive. Zero courtesy, zero niceness, zero eye contact. And the worst thing is the pizza is routinely undercooked as well, which is a shambles. Hire better people who are vaguely happy to be there, especially as you’re charging so much. You can find nicer humans. Be better.

I’ve been here a couple of times now. Relaxed atmosphere, good beer and good pizza. Nice vibes with the music lots of outdoor seating with heaters and covers for the winter. River Lee views. Service is good, order at the bar and the thin crust pizza gets delivered to the table within 30mins. The pizza toppings are varied - my favourites are the sweet potato with Stilton and the morrocan lamb. But the others are good too. The craft beer is tasty, I tried IPA and session IPA… both good. Highly recommended.

Pizzas are good, but that beer is too expensive, more than £7 a pint is too much when other quality places near by are cheaper, I used to stay for beer , but now I might take a pizza and leave .

A wow place on Friday and Saturday would be crowded. And cheerful. Nice place to hang out with friends. Easily accessible from the railway station.

Great pizza and they do huge jugs of beer for only like £26

Went there for a pre dinner drink had the Rhubarb Cider, great choice of ciders beers

Called ahead to inquire about gluten free accommodations for celiacs after seeing they offered gf pizza bases. The person on the phone assured me they have separate pans and the gf pizzas go on the top shelf. We went in and I double confirmed at the bar about my celiac and was told they can’t accommodate me. Frustrating obviously, but even more concerning that I could’ve got sick if I didn’t do further due diligence. Staff need better training on allergies and protocol. Don’t eat here if celiac.

Nice place. Freshly brewed beer, as well as handmade and absolutely delicious pizzas right on a small canal in Hackney. Just 3 minutes walk from Hackney Wick train station. The prices are reasonable and the ambience is really good. We'd love to come back. Absolute recommendation.

Great experience with my daughter, lovely food, great staff, and good choice of non alcoholic beer too! The sweet potato and stilton is one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time.

Good beer and nice tasting pizzas. Prices in line with what one would expect at a brewery (margarita pizza and a beer for approx £16). Nice vibes, especially being right next to the canal. Looking forward to coming back.

A fun brewery, right on the canal. Crate always has a good vibe, and has lots of seating space. Not all of the outdoor tables have heating though so can get a bit cold in winter. The courgette pizza is my favourite! Great selection of natural wines on tap for reasonable prices!

Popped in for a swift drink after Basketball. Large selection of beers. Gluten Free Cider = Win 4 Me

Evenings can get a bit busy but always a nice place to stop in. Great selection of beers and pizzas.

Been ordering take away pizza from Crate for a number of years Ordered 3 pizzas including a vegetarian pizza tonight When I got home one of the pizzas was the wrong pizza When I attempted to contact Crate Brewery by phone I could only get an ansaphone message Very frustrating that an order for 3 pizzas could not be provided correctly

Loved that pizza, however, beer wasn't excellent. So I gave 4 points for food that means, 5 for pizza and 3 for drinks 😉. Anyway I'll go there again 😁

Hm. Why is London customer service so poor? I just tried to make a reservation in person and was told by someone who clearly doesn't believe in making customers feel loved that "You can't make reservations in person, and we don't take reservations on the day and we're full anyway". No sorry but, no thanks for coming in, just rude.

The pizzas were really very good, I didn't realise how nice thin crust was. 2 of us shared 2 different pizzas and olives. No side salads on menu sadly. Buzzy atmosphere, we were there early, looked like a DJ would be on later. Casual and fun atmosphere. If you're with pals, get them to hold your coat and bag when you go to the loo. Loos are tiny with no hook on back of doors!

Crate is always a vibe. Shame the girl behind the bar coughed into her hands, didn't wash them then continued to serve drinks with her germy hands all over the glasses.

Staff were cold and lowkey rude. Pizza options were good (courgette and goats cheese one was delicious) but the margherita was mediocre at best. The ‘cocktails’ were ridiculously priced considering they were literally just cans and not even freshly made. The gin cocktail was in a laughably small can…

Super yum, thin and crispy based pizzas 🍕 right by the canal side.

We have visited The Crate regularly, it is perfect for pre-footy pizza and a pint. We have always found the staff really helpful, particularly the host, we thought he was so helpful that we sent him a little gift from The Hammers! Thank you, keep doing what you are doing, it's great.

Great beer with a cool ambiance

Lovely atmosphere and great service! Pizzas are really good, can do with a little bit of extra topping towards the side of the pizza. Otherwise, it's very dry and needs a lot of beer to wash it down. However, the flavours are great!!

on a trip to London I was looking for somewhere to go before the Abba show and saw this place. What could be better, craft beer and pizza? It was very busy but the service at the bar was very quick and the pizzas were delivered very quickly too. we all raved about the pizza and would definitely recommend this place to visit.

Delicious pizzas, really good veggie options, a really good range of beers and a lovely setting right by the canal. Perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon.

Generally a pleasant place. Has a good feel about it. It’s for Londoner’s, few tourists make it here. However on our last visit we were disappointed with the quality of the beers served. Every single pint we ordered over the course of the evening tasted and looked different (same beer on paper). The pizzas were yummy though. Despite that, we will come back and give it one more try…

It sits in a very popular area of Hackney Wick which gets even busier when West Ham is playing at home. Find a table outside next to a fig tree for shade on a sunny day.

Delicious pizza and great atmosphere

Visited last night for beer and pizza with a pal and it was overall a good experience! There was a good amount of locally brewed beer to match anyone's taste with some interesting sours which were gone by the time I ordered unfortunately. It was a bit disappointing to see the majority of cocktails came canned; and the one we ordered on tap tasted more like a fruity soda than a cocktail.The pizza was pretty decent and there were some interesting combo's - I got the aubergine and goat cheese, there was pizza with sweet potato on it; quite cool to see some combinations that you won't necessarily think about making at home yourself. However, the dough was so thin that it really felt dry from the first slice; I think having some sauce underneath (e.g. white sauce) would really help. The space itself is great, pretty big with loads of seating indoors and outdoors right by the water. HOWEVER, the customer service was disappointing. There simply needs to be more staff present, given how crazy busy it was on a Thu eve; and it was no fun having to literally battle to get a bartender's attention to order. I understand it can be hard to recruit more people, so maybe having QR-coded tables might help with the ordering experience? At least if you're ordering food, you shouldn't have to fight your way at the bar to do so... This is the main reason why I'm giving the space 4*. Overall, I would still recommend to anyone in the area, but probably as a one-off as it stands right now.

Bit disappointed about the beer as I couldn't taste anything but alcohol (had the gf lager for £6.20/pint). I loved this place in the past but now it just feels different and not anymore so tasty, at least not for me..

We loved the sour beer there, and pizza is great also, a lot of new flavours, not your traditional pepperoni pizza. Would definitely recommend. The only thing is it can get very, very busy.

The only bad thing about this place is it’s slightly expensive. As a vegan it was great to enjoy a lovely freshly cooked pizza.

Amazing spacious microbrewery by the canal! They have tons of seats both indoors and outdoors. There’s a great selection of self produced beer. Had the hazy which was delicious. The pizza were also great - the lamb pizza was very special. The sage and truffle on the hand tasted a bit bland in comparison to the lamb.

Such a unique and inviting atmosphere, a great range of pizza, and own beers. Located on the canal, it's picturesque. The pricing was a little higher than some of the other local bars, and it can get very busy with drinkers but a great venue for some food and a night out. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous pizza, beer and atmosphere!

I love this place but I think the pizza chef has changed so the pizza's taste abit different but I would visit again.

It's fine in here but it's full of divys. Divys who queue up, for the bar, in a line, as if we're still in lock down. To the point where you can't get past the queue to get outside because there's no room and it takes 6 times longer to get a pint than anywhere else and the staff just stand there dead behind the eyes not telling them to stand at the bar instead of hovering around in a line like nonces.

Lovely spot on the canal with plenty of craft beers and cider on offer. The pizzas are lovely and they often have DJs keeping the vibe bubbling in the afternoon/evenings. Worth a visit.

Outstanding ales, fantastic pizza!

Gave it a three as we’d been previously but recently did an about turn and went across the yard as the crate was heaving, queues for beer and loud music and it was only 7ish. Prefer a laid back atmosphere and not my kind of place

Atmosphere and service can't be faulted. Craft booze is also very good. My potato pizza from here was just average, but definitely not bad. However there are much more interesting options for pizza just around the corner, such as Slice Club, which I would recommend over here if the pizza is what you're in the area for.

It's a nice place I've been to a few times. But I just can't rate any place highly that charges >£5/pint of diet coke. It's an increasing trend being seen in London by price gauging bars just trying to extort money from non drinkers.

Lovely place to sit and have a beer by the canal in the sun. It's full of people chilling out. There are lots of bench tables typical of a beer garden to sit at. You can usually find a mixture of men/women here but mainly sitting around talking rather than being super active. The dress seems relaxed Shoreditch hipster type. Definitely not overly dressy or formal. Dog friendly too.

First time here. Interesing venue, Pizza came out quick and was very filling. Enjoyed a nice IPA. Easy to get to from the Train. Very attentive staff keeping the area clean and looking good. Enjoyed the music, good choices, not loud but good enough to enjoy and have a good conversation.

Good place for a casual dinner and drinks with mates.

Watch out for the bouncers. They will decide you’re a target and then rough you up without cause. Absolute scum bags. I have video evidence if this is disputed.

Been to Crate in Hackney Wick a few times and it's always been a blast! Really nice environment, situated by the canal and with a number of things happening all around. The pizzas are really good (or I was really hungry all the time!) And the beer is what's expected from Crate. A nice range of really good beers! I'll visit again!

Dissapointed to find the previously excelent IPA now (like several house brews) a keg beer now served under presure!¡ Seriously chaps. 'Craft' or not, keg is keg & real, real, regardless of scale. And the pizza was now't to write home about either! Shame, blown it! :'(
