I got the lamb with mint sauce on there Sunday roast menu and it was delicious. The roast potatoes we perfect, crisp and fluffy. The leeks were some of the best I have had and the lamb was delicious. Highly recommend. I’m gluten intolerant so I couldn’t have the Yorkshire pudding but was accommodated well by the staff. I sat in a booth and the atmosphere was very nice a good level of noise and cozy decor. I will definitely be here again.

Popped in here on the off chance when I was in the area having finished a business visit, and I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, I was attracted to this venue because it didn't have the busy, noisy, crowded vibe of some of the neighbouring establishments. This place has a rather more relaxed ambience. It was early evening and the restaurant wasn't full, so I thought I'd give it a try. I liked the traditional old-fashioned charm of the decor, which certainly lends the feel of a bygone era. I was promptly seated, and service was efficient and courteous throughout. There is a rather extensive selection of wines and beers featuring some lesser-known breweries, which is interesting to explore. I had a rather agreeable citrus pale ale. The food menu is not a straightforward starters and mains arrangement, but the more contemporary series of dishes ranging in size, which allows a greater propensity to mix and match depending on your appetite. Prices range from £4.50 to £24.50. This is always something of a lottery, as it can be difficult to judge quantities when ordering multiple dishes. I opted for the charcuterie plate to start - this was simply OK. Nothing exceptional but perfectly good. I followed this with the Welsh rarebit & parsley salad with a side of fries (see pictures). This would have been just right quantity wise, but the rarebit was disappointing. The cheese topping was completely overwhelmed by an excess of Worcester sauce. Coming from a catering background myself, I understand the value of Worcester sauce in grilled cheese, but this was way overdone. It actually masked the taste of any cheese and ruined the dish for me. I certainly couldn't detect what kind of cheese it was. Even if the chef is rather partial to Worcester sauce, I really think they got it wrong on this occasion. That is a shame because the consistency was just right, and the bread base was thick and crispy. Needless to say, it left my mouth feeling dried out and my taste buds overwhelmed. A great idea, poorly executed. However, that wouldn't put me off visiting again - the menu merits further investigation. With the final bill coming in at just over £40 with drinks (not to mention the 12.5% service charge - which apparently is no longer even 'discretionary') it is not too overpriced compared to other establishments in the locality. The ambience is not too boisterous, so good for friends and family. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

Early morning in Shoreditch and on the hunt for a breakfast to get the day going… What a find! Market Coffee House is brilliant… full of a sense of historical London and worldly wise cafés - put together in a way that makes you feel you don't want to leave. We loved it so much we went two days in a row and tucked into tasty food and 'the best' coffees we had over the weekend stay - and we had a few. Great foodie choices and friendly people who made the day start in the right way. Find your way here and you won't be disappointed.

Awful… Used to eat here when it was the English Restaurant, first time since it has changed owners. Was led to my table by a waiter who when showing me the table said “Here you go Mush” Ordered 2 Boiled eggs & Soldiers & Eggs Benedict food took around 30 mins to arrive, When it did: Boiled Eggs were Cold. Eggs Benedict also Cold. Pointed this out and the waiter sent both back to Kitchen. Expected both dishes to return at same time unfortunately not. Boiled eggs came back first without the Eggs Benedict.. By this time we decided to cut our losses & eat elsewhere. Poor Service, Cold Food = Avoid

Looks lovely from the outside, fab decor! Sadly service was TERRIBLE. The over priced food took 45 mins to arrive, - 2 boiled eggs and soldiers + poached eggs… unsure if they were waiting for the chicken to lay these? If so wasn’t informed. When food finally arrived it was stone cold. No care no apology, nothing. Avoid at all costs. Will Not be returning

Very well located near Spittlefields market, but without the crowds of the main food outlets in the main market. Nice "old fashioned" feel to the coffee shop/restaurant, with friendly/helpful staff, make this a great place to spend time. Decent lunch menu, food looks nice. Coffee was excellent. Service charge, which (unfortunately) is close to universal in this type of establishment/location now.

This review is for breakfast. And I love coming here for it each time I’m in London. Food: Breakfast! Weekend breakfasts are tops as they do the Full English then, but weekday breakfasts tick the box too. I had the Eggs Benedict – eggs cooked to a runny perfection with the most delicious hollandaise on a lightly toasted English muffin. And a supporting flat white to wash it down with. Service: Friendly and attentive without hovering. Space: A great spot to work out of (quiet work, don’t do your calls here folks, please) and enjoy a beverage and a meal. I can’t say they’ll be OK with folks hogging a table at peak times but I’ve only ever been there pre-lunch. Cost: So very reasonable for central London, about £25 for breakfast and a coffee. Takes cards and cash. Give it a go!

I'm sorry I didn't take the photo... a complete joke 4 “leftovers” of cheese the size of a fingernail and some crackers with some grapes. Totally ridiculous!! The food was good, if slightly on the small side portion wise, however, the reason the score is so low is because at the end of the meal, when it came time to pay, my friends and I opted to not pay all of the service charge that had been added to the bill as we felt the service hadn't been stand-out amazing (to be clear, we were still leaving a tip, just not as high as the service charge had calculated). However, when the waiter came over he insisted that we had to pay the full tip, when I pointed out that UK law leaves service charge to the customers discretion, he very rudely suggested that I wasn't from this country and insisted that we legally had to pay the service charge and that he and the other wait staff wouldn't make a wage without it. My friends and I had been having a really nice day and didn't want to ruin it by arguing as we felt the waiter was beginning to draw attention, so my friend paid and we got out of there as quickly as we could. I understand that (as of May just gone) by law the business has to pay staff the full tips received, but it's not compulsory for customers to have to tip, nor was it made known to us before we sat down that the business runs the service charge as compulsory. It's a shame, as we'd had a rather nice time up until then!

Really disappointing. Coffee good, service awful and toilets dirty. Ordered french toast with maple and bacon. Hardly any maple syrup and had to ask for more which arrived in a tiny ramekin dish between 2 of us. Waiter was surely and grumpy. By the time it arrived are food was almost cold. £13 for one slice of toast and 2 rashers of bacon with barely any syrup and nothing else was very expensive. We were never asked if our food was ok and did not even get a smile from the waiter who seemed to be rudely staring at one of us. The dryer in the toilet was dirty and the light for the cubicle did not work either, To add insult to injury they added 12.5% service charge and did not even say thank you for coming or goodbye when we left. Atrocious customer service, over priced food and small portions. This place relies on its vintage decor and looks attractive. Much better places close by in Spitalfields market itself. Alarm bells should have sounded as it was not that busy, if it carries on at this rate it will go out of business,

We stopped here for breakfast as the menu looked inviting. My partner ordered eggs benedict. When our food arrived his eggs benedict was missing the hollandaise sauce. When one of the staff was questioned about this he was not really sure but said he would go and check. After a couple of minutes we stopped another member of staff who said that the kitchen had also sent out another order lacking the sauce. He took the plate away and promised to replace it. The original guy brought out a ramakin of something cold and horrible which he said was hollandaise but tasted like a nasty mayonnaise. It most likely came out of a jar. I had by now finished my breakfast when some fresh eggs benedict arrived minus the sauce. My partner put some of the cold orange gloop over the top but it sort of just melted into a fatty puddle on the plate. He ate it as he was hungry but it was nothing like the eggs benedict he was expecting. We mentioned this to the second member of staff and he said it would not be added to the billed. When we came to pay it was on the bill which we then had to ask to be removed. A disappointing 1 star for the kitchen who send out eggs benedict missing a key ingredient and then sending out something nasty which was not proper hollandaise. 1 star also for the staff who should know how to rectify things efficiently when they do go wrong.

We were drawn to this restaurant not only by the beautiful, authentic looking exterior but also we really wanted a typical English bacon sandwich. We were greeted warmly and shown to a lovely dark wood booth and immediately felt like we were transported back to the Victorian era. Having soaked up the atmosphere we ordered two bacon sandwiches, a tea and a coffee. We hadn’t read the menu properly and neither did the waitress bring to our attention that the bacon comes in a small bap not bread and hence the brown sauce was dripping all over our hands and became messy. We ordered another coffee but had finished our bap long before it arrived, to the point that we had to ask if they’d forgotten, at which point she apologised and explained they were short staffed. We then started to see young, unkempt staff start to arrive. Such a sad state of affairs as clearly the owners have put a lot of thought and hard work to successfully recreate the atmosphere of a Victorian coffee house.

So when looking for somewhere to have lunch after one of my walking tours of Spitalfields I booked a table for myself and a friend and we had a really delightful experience. We were welcomed very warmly by the staff and offered a choice of tables. The service was perfectly timed, no hassle, no long wait and the whole experience is totally to be recommended.

Gorgeous, atmospheric restaurant with really friendly staff. Love the booths! Whether stopping off for a pot of tea or enjoying a full meal with friends, I’ve never had a bad experience here. The small plates are especially delicious.

Overall very nice ambience and cosy place. However, food wasn't as great as I have remembered it and it was quite expensive. There was a little bit a lack of care for the food. It's a nice place to come for a drink or coffee and maybe a small bite.

Lovely pub, lovely people, and delicious food! The hot wings were *chef’s kiss*! Staff were SO friendly and accommodating. And wow, what great value too! A great find just a stone’s throw from Mile End station.

¡Volveremos!

Let’s get the negatives out of the way, the service was painfully slow and inattentive considering on the day there was only our table, who came first and then 2 others about 45minutes later. For such a quiet establishment I would have expected staff to hover around more often and the kitchen to bring food out quicker. Now the positives, the cocktail drinks were mixed nicely and the food was nice and as expected for a venue of this nature and price. Would I go again, probably not unless invited to there for a special reason, however if you are a hotel guest with time on your hands then it’s perfectly fine.

I really loved the friendly and local atmosphere of this restaurant, which is hard to find in London. There were many patrons who were regulars here. The staff is very attentive and kind and one of the cooks (I think he is one of the owners) would talk to everyone and make jokes as well, which helped to make the place even more lively. I had the full English breakfast and overall it was good but the bacon was overcooked and the toast was soggy. The sausage and black pudding were very good. The portions are big which is also a rare find for a breakfast in London nowadays. I think the experience of eating here is a must try. If you are looking for some decent grub in the area I would certainly recommend it. Cash only!

Great vibes, beers always good and it’s always busy. Came as a group of 4 and didn’t book, got a table when some left and then was sceptical of the 20min sign wait for food but fair play it was about that! Pizzas were delicious, came here a few years back and it was just as good, definitely recommend!
