The Sunday roast at The Lord Tredegar in London is an absolute triumph of traditional British cuisine. From the moment the plate arrived, it was clear this would be a generous and satisfying meal. Piled high with a variety of perfectly prepared ingredients, it delivered on both quantity and quality. **The Main Event:** The roast meats were the star of the show, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The beef, in particular, had a beautiful balance of tenderness and a crispy seared exterior, while the chicken was juicy and succulent. Topping the plate was a magnificent golden pork crackling—crisp, crunchy, and deliciously salty, offering the perfect texture contrast to the tender meats beneath it. **Sides That Shined:** The roast potatoes were a highlight—crispy on the outside with a soft and fluffy interior, seasoned just right. These were clearly roasted with care, as each bite brought the perfect crunch. The Yorkshire puddings were a thing of beauty as well: large, airy, and golden, serving as the perfect vessel to soak up the savory, rich gravy that covered the plate. The accompanying vegetables—kale and roasted root vegetables—added a lovely balance to the heavier elements of the meal, giving a fresh and slightly bitter counterpoint to the richness of the meats and gravy. The gravy itself was expertly crafted, thick, and full of flavor, adding depth to every bite. **A Perfect Pairing of Drinks:** The drink selection complemented the meal wonderfully. The ginger beer, with its robust and slightly spicy flavor, cut through the richness of the roast, refreshing the palate. The presentation of the ginger beer in a classic, no-nonsense can, alongside a chilled glass with a slice of orange, was a simple yet effective touch. Additionally, the bright orange juice added a touch of brightness and acidity, balancing out the heaviness of the roast perfectly. **Atmosphere:** The ambiance at The Lord Tredegar’s outdoor seating was delightful. Nestled in a charming courtyard, the greenery and rustic furniture created an inviting space for a laid-back Sunday afternoon meal. The tables were well-spaced, offering a pleasant and private dining experience. With ample shade from large umbrellas and the warm sun filtering through the leaves, it was the perfect spot to enjoy the roast in a relaxed, open-air environment. **Service and Presentation:** Despite being a hearty and heavy dish, the presentation was thoughtful. The various elements of the meal were arranged neatly, with the towering Yorkshire pudding and crackling crowning the dish, creating a visual feast even before the first bite. The service was equally commendable—attentive without being intrusive, ensuring the drinks were well-paired and the food served piping hot. **Verdict:** The Lord Tredegar’s Sunday roast is a quintessential British pub meal done right. Every aspect, from the perfectly cooked meats to the flavorful sides and the cozy outdoor setting, made for an exceptional dining experience. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is a spot that should be on your list for a classic Sunday roast in London. A true testament to the charm and warmth of British pub culture, The Lord Tredegar’s roast is a meal that will leave you full, happy, and looking forward to the next visit.

This charming pub is tucked away from the main path, but still conveniently close to Mile End station. I recently met a dear friend here who had been raving about this place for ages. They were absolutely right! The pub offers a great variety of beverages, and even though I don't drink alcohol, there were still plenty of options for me. The staff is friendly and always ready to assist. What surprised me the most is how spacious it is, with a cozy front area, a bright rear section, and a sizable outdoor space. I have visited this pub three times now, and it has consistently exceeded my expectations. That, to me, is the key to a great experience.

Despite being just five minutes walk from Mile End tube station, the Lord Tredegar is pleasantly set in a quiet residential area. This is a very traditional old East End pub with a great atmosphere and lots of original features remaining. There is a newer, light and airy conservatory to the rear of the pub and a small beer garden beyond that. The reasonably priced menu includes East End favourites such as Pie & Mash, Sausage & Mash and Fish & Chips but, some more interesting dishes sit alongside these local classics, such as Pan Fried Sea Bass, which you would not normally expect to find in this type of pub. There's a specials board too, with one or two further interesting choices. There's a good range of ales on offer too, mainly from smaller breweries but, if I have one criticism of this place, the temperature these were served at was too high - even for real ale - at the time of our visit. They are closed lunchtimes, except at weekends. Also of note, there is an old Victorian octagonal postbox, still in use, nearby.

Excellent part of our visit to nearby ABBA Voyager Arena. Good grub and value for money. Excellent place to meet up with rest of family before attending ABBA Voyager concert. Don't know if our journey was the easiest but it worked for us. Used Satnav to drive to The Lord Tredegar (need ULEZ compliant car or pay the fee - don't know what fee is though). Arrived about 4:00PM and easily found street parking down a side road that we could pay for. Most parking is residents only but a number allow payment by phone. Only need paying up to 5:30pm. Free after that. Cost about £11 (!) but didn't have to pay for DLR or tube to the ABBA Arena from cheaper parking so saved there. Had a meal at the Lord Tredegar pub. Good grub, value for money. Good idea to book up ahead. Finished about 6:30 pm and walked 1.4 miles to ABBA Arena using phone walking nav. Excellent evening, brilliant concert!

This is one of the greatest pubs anyone will ever visit, if you're a local you're blessed. In this day & age it's hard to find a great local that is a classic pub, grand in size featuring a cat, and garden. Though understand it's big for a reason as it's a very popular place to have great food and probably the best roast dinner in London, with me now trying to find places that will upstage this pub. For me what makes this place before the food is the staff that work here, calm and very friendly to help you feel relaxed. However the kitchen staff making these dishes are the best kept secret you want to tell everyone about. I recently went up north having a roast, and it couldn't touch what you get at The Lord Tredegar. It's not only the portion size that is perfect and satisfying, but how well everything is cooked and that presentation when a dish is served will have you taking pics to show the world. On the rare occasions I've been in on a different day, let me confirm the food is still amazing and I hope this winning formula remains. Knowing pubs have been dying out for a while, this pub deserves to be protected as it does England and the East End proud. Tell everyone about it, but not too many to ensure you can enjoy a roast on a Sunday!

I heard very good things about their roast, so we decided to come. Unfortunately, Sunday roast is only served on Sundays (as expected), so we tried the sausage and mash, pan fried sea bass, and braised pork belly special of the day. We also shared the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The food was amazing, but the service was alright. You walk in and sit wherever you like in the back, and order at the bar up front. The bartenders weren’t that attentive, so it did take a bit for them to finally take my order, but the server was great. We noticed she sanitized her hands often!

Popped in here on the off chance when I was in the area having finished a business visit, and I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, I was attracted to this venue because it didn't have the busy, noisy, crowded vibe of some of the neighbouring establishments. This place has a rather more relaxed ambience. It was early evening and the restaurant wasn't full, so I thought I'd give it a try. I liked the traditional old-fashioned charm of the decor, which certainly lends the feel of a bygone era. I was promptly seated, and service was efficient and courteous throughout. There is a rather extensive selection of wines and beers featuring some lesser-known breweries, which is interesting to explore. I had a rather agreeable citrus pale ale. The food menu is not a straightforward starters and mains arrangement, but the more contemporary series of dishes ranging in size, which allows a greater propensity to mix and match depending on your appetite. Prices range from £4.50 to £24.50. This is always something of a lottery, as it can be difficult to judge quantities when ordering multiple dishes. I opted for the charcuterie plate to start - this was simply OK. Nothing exceptional but perfectly good. I followed this with the Welsh rarebit & parsley salad with a side of fries (see pictures). This would have been just right quantity wise, but the rarebit was disappointing. The cheese topping was completely overwhelmed by an excess of Worcester sauce. Coming from a catering background myself, I understand the value of Worcester sauce in grilled cheese, but this was way overdone. It actually masked the taste of any cheese and ruined the dish for me. I certainly couldn't detect what kind of cheese it was. Even if the chef is rather partial to Worcester sauce, I really think they got it wrong on this occasion. That is a shame because the consistency was just right, and the bread base was thick and crispy. Needless to say, it left my mouth feeling dried out and my taste buds overwhelmed. A great idea, poorly executed. However, that wouldn't put me off visiting again - the menu merits further investigation. With the final bill coming in at just over £40 with drinks (not to mention the 12.5% service charge - which apparently is no longer even 'discretionary') it is not too overpriced compared to other establishments in the locality. The ambience is not too boisterous, so good for friends and family. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

¡Volveremos!

Let’s get the negatives out of the way, the service was painfully slow and inattentive considering on the day there was only our table, who came first and then 2 others about 45minutes later. For such a quiet establishment I would have expected staff to hover around more often and the kitchen to bring food out quicker. Now the positives, the cocktail drinks were mixed nicely and the food was nice and as expected for a venue of this nature and price. Would I go again, probably not unless invited to there for a special reason, however if you are a hotel guest with time on your hands then it’s perfectly fine.

After viewing the exhibits, stop by the bookstore. It is small but the selection of art books is great.
