What a wonderful place! Really good choice of beers and ciders- we tried as many as we could and would recommend everything! I think the atmosphere makes it so special.Because of the size you are encouraged to share tables, and everyone chats. We met lots of interesting people which made every visit different. Very dog friendly which is lovely- our dog made as many new friends as we did.

Owning a Craft Beer Bar I'm not generally a big fan or customer of 'real ale' pubs. However The Waterworks as a fairly recent addition to the beer scene absolutely nails recreating an authentic back to basics friendly, warm and laid back 'pub' should be, especially on a cold, wet and windy February afternoon. Massively well done guys..oh and your beer is top notch too.

Absolutely brilliant! Dave and the crew are so friendly and helpful with a really good choice of drinks at a very reasonable price. Yes you have to share tables (due to the size) but you undoubtedly get chatting to people all of whom have a story to tell. The place is full of bits & bobs to buy and we ended up spending more on memorabilia than we did on booze. Great idea and would highly recommend.

Well deserved CAMRA winner ! WW? What's not to love ? location, building, history, decor, ambience, atmosphere, hospitality and that's before looking at the amazing selection of beverages - something for all! Thoroughly enjoyed trying the fruit ciders, other half took a strong liking to the Waterworks I.Pee.A.Lot !!! Soaked it up with a cheese and onion roll while sitting at the bar before we retreated outside in the seating area sheltered from the rain with a heater! 👌🏼 Great lil joint all year round !

Incredible pub that’ll make you feel like a local, even if you’re not. Normally I’d pass by a busy pub if it looked like I wouldn’t be able to get a seat but the landlord greeted us at the door and said he’d find us a seat no problem. I was walking through Rye on my day-trip, hoping to try a few of the pubs. I was actually on my way to a different pub when I was lured into the Waterworks, initially because of the long list of real ales on a chalkboard out front, and then by the charming exterior, and once I stepped inside, I was sold.... and I hadn't even had a sip of the ale yet! I tried one of the home brewed ales and was over the moon. I regret not trying the scotch eggs, now that I've read some of the other reviews. If I ever return to Rye, this place is reason enough!

What a gem of a place. Stopped for a drink while spending a few days in the area. Person behind the bar was very helpful and polite and recommend a local ale, of which there were several, comparable to my partners usual tipple of choice. Barrels are all on show in the wall behind the bar and the pint that was pulled for us looked clear and crisp and tasted lovely. I had one of the several alcohol free offerings as I was driving. It was so enjoyable we decided to have another round of drinks and also to try one of their local pork pies and scotch eggs. These were served with mustard and relish on the side and were delicious. The bar area although small - seating inside for approx 25 with further seating outside - was cosy. There are numerous antiquities on show around the walls which are also available to buy and which adds to the quirkiness of the place. It is dog friendly and has its own pub dog called sparkle who is delightful and sports a collar with a ‘ do not feed’ logo on. Sparkle clearly cannot read and remains ever hopeful that crumbs will come his way. All in all a delightful place to spend a leisurely hour or two.

My wife and I came here again after having a wonderful experience in 2021. And it's as good as ever. So many local brews to choose from, staff and customers who are real people, and who welcome everyone. As the signs say, it's a micropub...find a seat, probably at a table with other people on it, buy a drink and have a chat. Pet someone's dog. Take a look at the "decor" which is antiques and curios all for sale. This is a wonderful place, and definitely one of my "happy places". What made it all the more amusing was that a poor review was posted, and the owner shared it on social media while we were there. Cue a bunch of people saying "Well, I am here right now and it's great". Try the local ciders and beers, revel in the locally made scotch eggs. Make a new friend. And if that's not your thing, that's totally fine....just don't complain you expected a quiet corner of a standard pub when it's literally written all over the place what the character of The Waterworks is. I love it so much, I bought a T-shirt.
