The only CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub in Rye. Liza is not sure why as Rye is wonderful and full of great pubs.( might be my afterlife Heaven!) Stayed for two rounds as the beer / cider choice is superb. Ticked off three new breweries. Super pork pies and Scotch eggs. They encourage you to share tables. Some front outside seating. Like the idea of flushing the loo with Sharp's Doombar. All it is good for says Liza.

This place serves superb beer and cider with simple but excellent food. The staff are cheerful and cheeky. There is humour to be found and joyful offence to be taken everywhere. Strange local traditions like cheese-sharing are encouraged, and both furniture and clientele are heterogenous and comfortable. Much of the beer and cider is local including Waterwork's own toilt-humour-titled brews. These are quite seriously among Englands finest. A wonderful location, in a good-looking touristy town that needs the reality check this place provides. The perfect antidote to bland UK high street chains, and grimly commodified PubCo pubs. If you love real beers and ciders you will definitely love this place.

A belated review, but what a place. The range of beers/ales/ciders etc. is great, and the welcome is especially warm, fun and friendly. You can see why it's so popular; we visited numerous times when visiting family over Christmas and it brightens my day when I see them come up on my Facebook feed. They are an integral part of the community, in and beyond Rye.

What a lovely gem of a Micropub. Loved the building too. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, the choice of local ciders was good and the toilets were clean. I chose Kentish Kiss and it was £2.50 for half a pint. It was delicious and very much enjoyed as I sat in the warm sunshine outside, drinking it.

My husband and I had a fantastic couple of hours in this great little tap rooms, which was the local public toilets in a past life 😂. Serving their own brewery’s beers, other local ales and ciders, plus the usual spirits etc, this was a great place to try something new. We arrived just as cheese time was finishing - it seems they have a huge board of cheese and crackers on the counter to people to have. My husband tried a few of the beers and said they were all great, and I stuck to fruit ciders which were lovely. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere. You’re encouraged to pull up a chair and chat to strangers, which we did, and had a brilliant afternoon of laughter. People playing cards behind us, huddled around like it was their living room. Brik a brak all over the walls, ceilings, tables, etc and every single thing has a price tag (including the tables and bar stools!). Our table had a vintage radio on it, some books and some antique glass bottles all for sale. Friendly staff and just the loveliest atmosphere. And at £7 for both a pint of local beer and half a local cider, it’s also great value. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

I’d heard about its fabulous range of beers and atmosphere and it didn’t disappoint. The layout of the place would not suit those who like just their own company. Here (if you can get a seat) you have to mix with others. As a result on our several visits, we chatted to many others and it was a great experience.
