It's always a great place to visit. There are plenty of local cask ales and cider.

We visit every time we're in Rye and it never disappoints. Great brews and atmosphere

Great place, local real ales, great atmosphere, very cheap too, anything you see is generally for sale, quirky and friendly staff, what's not to love......apart from trying to get in and get a seat!! Was very busy all throughout the day, we tried on a Saturday, but eventually got a seat an hour before closing!! Only gave it 4 stars as was very difficult to get in, but... Not the owners or staffs fault, they're obviously doing a great job.

If you are looking for an authentic place where people smile at you and chat around a common table...this is the ideal place. A great time to end our road trip in the United Kingdom.

Brilliant pub! We was visiting Eastbourne and went rye last summer and enjoyed this pub so much took a detour on the way home to visit again. The service is fantastic, knowledge on ales is great as asked what would recommend as wanted to try something new. Everyone was very welcoming, we came on the Sunday and played toad in the hole. Was brilliant, scotch egg and pork pie was top tier. Never disapoints, and look forward to visiting in the warmer summer months :)

One of the nicest places I've ever been. We were in Rye for a weekend and came here three times. The drinks and scotch eggs were great, but the atmosphere and the people are what make it so special. Sunday cheese club should be rolled out nationwide

What a pleasure to be in this little spot. It’s super friendly and actively encourages socialising and sharing stories and joy. Great local ciders and beers - and locally supplied pies and scotch eggs. Very cosy and very affordable. Takes card and cash, defo stop for a chat with the bar staff who are very knowledgeable about all things boozey and Rye.

A must-go for pub lovers! Everywhere is quirky, they make many of their own beers and have a great selection of home-made ciders, local gins and sell local scotch eggs and sausage rolls. Everything in the pub is for sale including the table and chairs you are using and it’s a trip back to Lovejoy days. I’ve had betters but overall the team make a trip to Rye something to look forward to. A proper pub, proper landlord and a group of lovely bar stewards keeping us watered and orderly!

Fantastic and so friendly, meeting new people is actively encouraged and we chatted to different people, and met lots of dogs, on each visit. Great range of beers and ciders.

Really unique little pub with a lovely atmosphere and great selection of local beers. And £4.50 a pint! Amazing value!

I visited yesterday it was a very unusual place. For me it has a great selection of beer and invited to talk to the stranger opposite . The beer was excellent the staff were looovely. My head nly down side is that it was very busy and the noise levels too much. Though I would return at a less busy time.

What an amazing find in beautiful Rye! Led by ringmaster Dave and ably supported by Ulla and Jojo the atmosphere was everything you could ever wish for. Popped in for a Sunday lunchtime drink, unfortunately had to meet another’s couple elsewhere so missed the 1-3pm “brung cheese, eat chees” will go back just for that! Came back for one of the best Sunday evenings ever, played games, made friends and hurt from laughing. Thank you guys so much, see you soon. Kev, Di & Coco Xx

Popped in to this local pub, unusual in its style and presentation. Friendly and helpful service with a great choice of local ales and beers. Pie and scotch egg to eat (that's the menu but they're excellent!) With a varied clientele visiting from all over, is well worth a visit.

On a recent short trip to Rye, this converted toilets(!) proved to be a go to place for two old guys on a boys away trip. I’d heard about its fabulous range of beers and atmosphere and it didn’t disappoint. The layout of the place would not suit those who like just their own company. Here (if you can get a seat) you have to mix with others. As a result on our several visits, we chatted to many others and it was a great experience. Beer - outstanding choice and pints for well less than a fiver. Food - limited to lovely pork pie or scotch egg. Both top quality. Very friendly staff and the busiest hostelry in Rye. Loved the place

Didn't have any food but what a lovely friendly place.

We found this place by chance and what a find. A brilliant atmosphere generated by the friendly, engaging Dave - the owner. Lots of craft beers to choose from. We headed back on our second evening. It’s worth visiting Rye just to experience the Waterworks.

What a quirky micro pub housed in a public urinals...Great chaotic interior where everything seems to be for sale ...Hilariously named beers and ciders..I had a pint of Pissoir porter ..with coffee/chocolate undertones 😉..highly recommend 👌

I didn’t like the owners mindset of not allowing you to taste the beers/ales. These are all individual brews and a bit of conversation and tasting is something I like about breweries. This owner was having none of that and it created a tense atmosphere. He came out shouting about it and it all seemed a bit ridiculous

The Waterworks is a charming little microbrewery near Rye train station. It has a friendly, laid back atmosphere and a strong line-up of craft beers and ciders. I visited as part of a group of ten and the landlord was very hospitable, finding us a table outside and suggesting ales according to our preferences. We visited a total of twelve pubs in Rye and this was the one that left the biggest impression -- I will definitely be back!

First visit last weekend and had a lovely pint of hop fuzz. Great little place with friendly staff, even learnt the origins of the song Smoke on the water from the barman. Will be back again next time I'm in Rye definitely. 10 out of 10.

Visited twice in a weekend, we loved it so much. Such lovely people behind the bar, couldn’t do enough for us (with wit and friendliness we miss in London).

Dave who runs the place is a charismatic guy. On Sundays they have a cheese do, bring cheese, eat cheese etc.

Hot, overcrowded, sticky. Then we were condescended to by some rude staff. Beautiful pubs everywhere in this town, no need to patronise this overrated dump.

All good if people want to come and chat to strangers, we didn’t and a staff member condescended us.

Very quirky little bar with a good selection of unusual beers and ciders

This is a great place for beer lovers as they have a large selection to choose from. I had the Romney American Pale Ale and Mrs had the Porter. Both were spot on. The staff and locals were very friendly and customers are encouraged to share tables and engage complete strangers in conversation 😁 We didn't try the food but the pork pies looked amazing. We will definitely be going back as we had a great time and the prices are very reasonable compared to other places in Rye.

Quirky interesting pub with good cider and real ale

This is such a great spot in Rye! We enjoyed the tap beers and cider - there's a really relaxed vibe here. The place is decorated with beer mats and nik naks and almost everything is for sale, even the chairs and tables! Bonus points for being so dog friendly too!

One of the best pubs I've ever been to. Extremely friendly staff. Very nice atmosphere. The drinks (cider!) are wonderful. All things in the restaurant can be bought. There's a pub dog named "Spark"! What more do you want?

They won’t warm up your food. Nothing else matters

What a super find in Rye. Myself and my family went out for a brief walk and ended up spending a couple of hours here chatting and drinking, also had some bar shacks as well. The beer was kept really well and the cider was great. Nothing bad to say. It's small quirky and great.

Been here 3 or 4 times but the atmosphere always feels off. Bit of a 'local pub for local people' vibe, which would make sense if it was hidden away in a quiet village buts it's in the centre of a popular town. Never felt very welcome.

This micropub is like pubs of old, no music,no fruit machines just plenty of people chatting while they enjoy a drink. It's surprising just how many people this little pub can accommodate. There are also tables outside. The drinks are almost all from small brewers so you'll find a wide and interesting selection. The building itself is very old as are many in Rye. Full of character and a little quirky. Food available in the form of filled rolls, crisps and snacks in packets or you could grab a pickled egg! The landlord was very friendly and came out from the car to chat to his customers. A very different experience from a chain pub but a very pleasant one

This is unashamedly my 4th review of this superb establishment . You can pack away all your cares and enjoy the unique and special atmosphere of this pub / bar /micro pub everyone is encouraged to socialise and share tables and the Sunday cheese club is fun and a great atmosphere .we need more places like this nationwide and the waterworks is a must on any visit to rye . Oh ... and by the way .. the range of beers are second to none and also very good wine and shorts . Excuse any spelling mistakes as have just returned form another lovely time here .

Cute quaint vintage vibe pub to enjoy amazing flavours of ciders . Enjoyed chilling there. Women's Washroom is the highlight and quite unique.

Best pub ever, generous hospitality with knowledgeable and happy staff. Everyone is made to feel so welcome and encouraged to join strangers at their table - we always have a great night. The scotch eggs are phenomenal with the sweaty cheese and onion rolls a rare treat. Maybe see you in there!

What a fun, informal and friendly place! Good choice of wines and, according to my beer-drinking sidekick, ale. Lovely way to start, spend and/or finish your evening.

The Rye Waterworks was originally a water pumping house (1869), and has since been a soup kitchen, public lavatories, and a shop selling antiques and curios more recently (still is, sort of, as anything not fixed is for sale!). The building has a history going back at least 300 years. 8 cask ales, including 2 or 3 of their own. Plus about 20 ciders! Plenty to drink. Indeed, everything is very local, from a small radius. Plus wines and spirits. Food-wise, they sell locally made scotch eggs and pork pies, sandwiches on Fridays, pickled eggs, and the usual crisps and nuts. A very friendly establishment, the first ever micropub I went to, which first visited 6 years ago, and I keep going back, indeed, conversation between visitors is very much encouraged, go there and find a friend, if that is what you want, and it's only 5 minutes walk from the railway station. I love the people and place, cheers!
