I live close by in Rougham and hadn’t been for a couple of years as was really disappointed the last few times we went. But it was great! Food was absolutely lovely, good service, friendly staff and didn’t wait long either! Will definitely start going back again. Shout out to the kitchen staff who were really helpful with all our requests as we’re both a bit fussy😂

At this restaurant i was very disappointed, we found a hair in 2 separate dishes, egg shells in the fried egg and the steaks were cooked completely wrong. We asked for medium rare and they came very rare and dry. The service was poor aswell, i won’t be coming back x

Great Pub, Family & Dog Friendly, nothing was too much trouble, drinks were served perfectly, steaks cooked too perfection, cookie sharer was awesome, staff very friendly and engaging. The pub is beautiful, and has this huge barn at the rear so it is surprisingly big inside, looking at booking a birthday in the upstairs area

Popped in for a quick drink on the way back from Sudbury Always looked a decent place when previously drove by. No it’s not What a let down - apart from untrained bar staff there was no ice for wife’s drink - machine is broken! Broken on a Saturday omg landlord send someone out to buy ice - what is this !! I go to the toilet - no soap in the dispenser to wash your hands! When was the last time toilets checked and cleaned! So sat outside to find broken glass all over the floor by one of the tables Left as soon as possible will not be back Again such a shame management can not or is in capable of running a pub Old old GK

Not sure if you have problems with suppliers but there was not any chips, pea's, vanilla ice cream and one of party could not get the steak he wanted so had to order different. Food just ok and could of been a bit hotter though, Martha was very helpful and friendly many thanks to her. Overall we were a little bit disappointed.

Had a really great meal here last night, it's so nice to get exactly what you want and with good service. Fish and chips, burger and sticky toffee puddings - nothing fancy but cooked and presented well. The maitre'd and her team were fantastic - friendly but not intrusive.

First time visitors. We met up with friends, we picked the Rushbrooke Arms as it halfway from our respective homes. Martha attended to us throughout, professional, helpful and had a giggle with us, first plus. The starters were delicious, second plus. Our Sunday lunch was quite simply divine, piping hot, vegetables cooked perfectly, not overdone, lovely crispy roasties, and generous portions, be warned the Yorkies are massive. I am so pleased the food was piping hot, this is a real bug bear of mine, lukewarm food, and in no way was this prepared and kept under a hot lamp, cooked to order I would say, which is fabulous. Third plus. No rushing of us at all, we were left alone to enjoy our meal and catch up with our friends, and wait times between courses just right. In the current climate pubs have to offer something special, and whilst perhaps some would say a little expensive, in my world, you get what you pay for, and for us we were all agreed, very good value for money. So well done to all the staff at the Rushbrooke, you deserve this review, we really did enjoy your food and hospitality today. Well done.

Lovely pub we had the nachos sharer and wow we’ve had them at a lot of places but these were the best we’ve tasted loaded with cheese sour cream guacamole and jalapeños plus salsa. The nachos we home made and huge. Will definitely be going again!

Had a lovely meal our server Mikey and his colleague went above and beyond for us made sure me and my best friend had all we wanted and where only to happy to get something if needed. The Meal was lovely to 💜

Mickey served us. He could not have been more helpful nor friendly. All of the staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. I had vegan bang bang cauliflower. Dad had the same with halloumi fries. He keeps raving about it. Food was lovely. The overall experience was excellent.

Unfortunately, after no decaffeinated coffee available, no alternative to dairy milk, then the warm coffees were delivered and along with a list of u available food choices. As one of us is on Slimming World we had already chosen salad prior to booking but this was one of the options no longer available to us. No jacket potatoes, no soup and a cold restaurant we paid for our drinks and left.

Lovely pub with old features. We had Sunday roast and it was amazing! Bit of a wait for pudding but apart from that it was a lovely meal out. We will be returning. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and pub is in a lovely location just outside Bury.

Great food, great atmosphere. Hilary was amazing! Very accomodating for a party of 6 including 2 children! Was always friendly and attentive, always had a smile. We had a problem with the toy vending machine and she really helped us out.

As a family we visited just before Christmas and we was not satisfied at all. BUT we gave it another chance this evening and all the staff were very welcoming and polite, we was served drinks and food very shortly after. The food was very nice and well presented, we will be returning in the future. Well done to all involved and to the manager for turning things around.

Met brother for a sneaky pint and then decided I was starving. It's a fantastic building and the menu is diverse. Decent value also. I was served by Megan who was very pleasant good at her job. I remember doing the same job 40yrs ago and it's a job few people do well. So thanks Megan and cheers to all at Rushbrooke Arms.

Stopped in for dinner in the middle of the week without a booking. Was greeted and shown to a table immediately, the food was good and arrived quickly. We were looked after by Megan from start to finish 10/10 service.

Dropped in for a bite to eat with a friend Wednesday lunchtime and was well worth the visit. Although seemed very busy, my friend and I were greeted and seated by Mikey and were impressed with the selection of drinks and menu choices available. We ordered the ultimate burger with cheesy fries and bacon and the cod & chips with peas with garlic bread and a side of macaroni and cheese. The meal was delicious, for pudding we ordered the chocolate brownie sundae and pancakes. The service, atmosphere and food were top notch and we will definitely be returning. Very slow service. If you see a skeleton at the end of the bar it’s probably me still waiting to be served. One lady behind bar trying her best to do drinks and food order makes ordering really frustrating. Outdoor area etc needs a bit of attention. Food ok when it eventually comes.

Visited on Thursday evening with the family. All members thoroughly enjoyed the visit. My daughter has coeliac disease and the staff ensured this was taken seriously making us feel very comfortable. When my daughter suggested my husband and I join her and her partner here for lunch today (30th Dec 2023) I was quite happy as despite it being a few years since we ate here previous experiences have been positive. Not today! First off the young women (two) at the greeting "lectern" just inside the dining entrance were completely unprofessional & unfriendly. No greeting, no smile, nothing. I had seen my daughter & her partner enter the building just as we arrived in the car park. I was obviously looking around for someone and in the end asked the young women at the desk where my daughters table was giving her name. We duly joined the table and orders were placed shortly thereafter for 3 starters and four mains. My daughter ordered sea bass but said she did not want the butter & herb sauce could she have cranberry sauce instead. Yes no problem. Starters arrived, I had mushro8ms in sauce with ciabatta - the sauce was slimy & the tiny piece of bread was stale. A reasonable time after our starter plates etc were taken away, three mains arrived. The waitress said oh did you only order three mains? Uh no, we ordered four! I told her it was my main missing and I had ordered the Beyond burger. No more cutlery given despite the fact three of us had used the cutlery on the table for our starters and they had been removed from the table. So the waitress goes off to find out where the missing main is. In the meantime my daughter notices that there is no broccoli or vine tomatoes on her plate. Just a fillet of sea bass on top of a mass of new potatoes and 4 tiny shrivelled slices of cooked squash (menu states bass comes with broccoli, squash, vine tomatoes & new potatoes. So waitress reappears and says that my main will have to now be cooked! I ask her why my daughters sea bass has no broccoli or vine tomatoes. If you've read the other reviews you'll guess the reply - they had run out! Then this should have been pointed out when ordering!!!! Don't just serve a meal without everything stated comes with it on the menu and just hope people won't notice or say anything! I then ask for cranberry sauce because two of our mains were turkey roasts and my daughter wanted some too. Yep you guessed it, they had run out. So at Christmas when many folk are having turkey they've run out of cranberry sauce! So at this point I've had enough. I left the table and went to the greeting area where three young women staff were standing. I asked who was in charge and was told no one. I said there must he a manager or supervisor...someone take ownership please. One of the three asks how she can help. Her name was Beth and I have to give her credit. She was helpful & professional to the core! If the manager reads this review take note, Beth was the only member of staff present today who is a credit to your team! She sorted my main out, apologised for the fact that certain items were unavailable and for the lack of communication by other staff members and said she would ensure we were not charged for any of the mains. Management- re-train your staff ASAP. Sort out your supply chain and stock control! We will not be back for sure!

As part of our celebrations we booked Christmas dinner at The Rushbrooke Arms just outside of Bury St Edmunds. On the day itself we were warmly greeted by Mikey and his team and brilliantly looked after by our server, Martha. The delicious food was very enjoyable... we decided to take our Christmas pudding dessert away with us as the main course, after starter, was really filling. I recommend this nice pub and restaurant with plenty of parking and outside seating too... and we're defo thinking of booking for next Christmas Day lunch too. Thank you Mikey, Martha and team, you did a great job and helped our celebrations so much x.

We went for Christmas Dinner, the food was amazing. The service was very slow. We waited over an hour for welcome drinks and starter when we asked the assistant manager was very rude. Our meal.was booked for 2pm we didn't leave to 5pm we didn't even eat our afters because my disabled daughter become very upset at the wait and every1 becoming very stressed. If the service improved alot I would go back because the food was good

My family and I booked to have Christmas Day Dinner at The Rushbrooke Arms and we had a lovely experience. The staff were extremely warm and friendly. We arrived at 2:30pm and seated by the manager. The tables were laid out beautifully with crackers and baubles which were presented so nicely. From starters to desserts, the food was delicious and generous presentable portions. It was, of course busy, however, the team really made it special for us and we had a really lovely time and we will definitely be back in the New Year. Thank you to every staff member that gave up their Christmas Day for us.

So the evening of the 8th of this month. The pub restaurant is near empty, a few dinners together with 2 not very large Christmas Partys in. Yet the staff they needed to check availability, it was virtually empty! Both I and my daughter noted that most of the staff seemed new and not fully trained in how to use their tablets to place orders. So therefore hessiant in approaching tables understandably. The table to us waited almost 40 minutes for their desserts. I ordered a super blue large rump steak which only should be cooked for 35 seconds each side to seal the meat.what did I get a medium rare steak? Which thd waiter serve by saying hi mate here's your steak. So the steak was sent back, with specific instructions cook for 35 seconds each side only. A super blue steak should be cold in the centre and deep red in colour. Thankfully my daughters steak pie in Ruddles ale was OK. Version 2 of the steak arrived and again on being addressed as hi mate. That was it I had to tell the young waiter " you do not address customers as Mate or say hi to them" the second steak was not super blue just blue. But this point as it was by now almost 9.00pm and I had driven up from Devon. We decided to just finish the main course and go and have a drink elsewhere ideally somewhere warmer to, after seeing how long desserts took to arrive. I have eat on a number of occasions at Greene Kings bars in Bury st Edmunds, whike visiting my daughter. The Fox and The Dog and Partridge both being everything this unit is not. Polite staff who address customers correctly, time from ordering to plate in of the customers far quicker too compliant to Greene Kings brand standards, especially as many of the menu core dishes are the same at all three bars. Being Managed houses. Certainly not the birthday dinner with my daughter I had planned for myself. Worst Greene King is one of my former national account customers too. Would I be tempted to eat at this venue again. No way if that is the standard of service when it is near empty.

A group of 14 of us visited for lunch from the Christmas menu on a Sunday lunchtime. The lady who organised the booking experienced a couple of pronlems before we even truned up but that's her experience to review if she wants to. So I'll get the bad over with first - the service was.....well......sloowwwwww! Our food, all 3 courses of it, turned up in 3 or 4 relays over a period of time. Most of us were well through our main courses by the time the last people got their food. For the dessert some of us had actually finished eating before the last people got their food. Two Christmas dinners even turned up with no turkey on the plates lol. To be fair, as soon as it was pointed out, the waitress brought turkey out and served it up. Now the good......we all agreed the food was delicious and the portions were big too. In a flurry of WhatsApp messages during the evening it appeared we all ate very small teas late in the evening because we were so full up. To be fair to the staff, the place was packed but we had ordered in advance and it was known a group of 14 was coming. Would I go back? Yes. because the food was delicious.

Went to a private family party in the room upstairs last night and was very impressed with the cozy function room, and the food - which was a buffet was amazing. I must mention the giant sausage rolls which were the best I've ever had! The staff were lovely too so thank you all for making it a lovely, special celebration for my sister and her husband.

Absolutely freezing cold no food not even any snacks to eat been told they have a big party in for food but doesn’t seem to be anyone turned up yet use this place on a regular basis but will be thinking again

Amazing meal yet again, a slight hitch with hubby's dinner was quickly rectified (and removed from bill as an apology) can't fault the friendly staff, the amazing food and how beautiful this pub is ! We love it !! And the pancakes for dessert absolutely blew us away they were amazing !! Thanks once again to the team at rushbrook we will be back again very soon x

We had family visiting us so we decided to pop in just for a drink initially, because the food has been substandard in the recent past. However, we then decided to give it another go so ordered some food! Mistake. The chicken skewers were half warm half cold, and made from what looked like leftovers! Seriously don't bother to eat here. If you want a local pint then that's safe enough: Greene King IPA and Aspalls Cider would be a good choice. But do not eat here! It seems that Greene King are running their pubs down in Suffolk, and it's been happening for some time now. We had wanted to give the pub one last chance, but its the last time we will eat there.The manager does need to read the reviews that are currently on the system, and act fast if the pub has a future. Such a shame because the location is great, and it could serve the community well.

I am not one to moan, let alone write a review but...what has happened to the Rushbrooke Arms? For years it has been a reliable and good family restaurant with reasonable prices and service. Tonight however when taking the grandchildren for dinner we were deeply disappointed. The booking service was a mess and we received no phone call to confirm our booking, at least one third of the menu was unavailable, no sharing platters, chicken, beef, cheesecake or most variety of coffees. We had at least 4 different waiters, one of which ordered the wrong items and the next waiter had to put right his wrong order and considering the restaurant was almost empty we had quite a long wait for the pudding. There appeared to be no one in charge, and all the waiters spent most of the time saying sorry for the unavailable food or the mistakes. This is such a shame as the food we did receive was good. Suggestions would be....please sort out the booking service, the food stock levels, the management as a whole and give advance warning when items are not available ( not just as you are ordering them). The Rushbrooke Arms tonight was a sad encounter, we felt sorry for the waiters as front line staff apologising for bad senior and kitchen management. Having spent years of happy family meals here we will not be returning unless something changes, and from conversations overheard from other customers we were not alone in the thoughts in this factual report.

Easier to say what's in stock! Shocking what available they had on the menu. The team bless them tried their hardest but it was clear to see nobody was at the helm. What has happened to this family favourite. It's clear from other comments that this is ongoing. Green King need to act fast to save this from going down!

What an awful experience, would not recommend. We used to love this place and it was great for the kids but over the last few visits, I'm afraid to say we won't be returning and the unprofessional manner way the manager responds to people on here is quite shocking. When we arrived there was a family in front waiting and the lady by the door was on the phone. She would not stop rolling her eyes and huffing at whoever was on the phone!! It was extremely rude and I though to myself if only the person on the other end realised. She then showed us to our table, no warm welcoming or smile, just moody and abrupt - perhaps in the wrong job? However, I must say the other lady we had was fab and very polite and did her best to juggle all the tables. She had told us she was mainly on her own. To start, the drinks were forgotten about and we had to remind the lady, they got brought out the same time as our food. There was no mixed grill, no burgers. How you don't accommodate for this is beyond me. We ordered some chicken wings, these were slimey and sticky inside and had a very strange taste. We were told nothing could be down about it as our daughter ate one. A majority of the chips were over cooked, inedible and hard. It was extremely hard to get anyone's attention, barely any staff about. It was obvious there was other disgruntled customers on other tables as we saw a few complain. The desserts took forever for someone to come and take the order so we ended up leaving. Was a compete disappointment for our son's birthday. As I said, we used to really enjoy coming here but it has clearly gone down hill. A little side note, it would be very beneficial for the business to provide milk alternatives for coffee etc. Many people drink oat, soya etc but none are available. This is disappointing when you want a coffee after your meal. We won't be back as it is over priced and below average on taste and customer service

We went to the Rushbrooke Arms for a Sunday lunch looking forward to a roast dinner as a party of 4. We were given a Sunday roast menu which consisted of Beef, Pork and Turkey roasts or a trio of all three. We were told that the beef roast had run out and therefore no trio available and no we couldn’t have Pork and Turkey together instead. Then we were told there were only two Pork roasts left, we ordered those and two rump steaks, the waitress then came back and told us the Pork roasts had run out and there was only Turkey, we didn’t want Turkey so my Wife had Scampi and I ordered Steak and Ale Pie. We sat down at 2:30 our food arrived at 3:30. The scampi was of poor quality and insipid, the Steak and Ale Pie had very thick pastry and was mostly gravy, there was probably a table spoon of meat in it, the steaks were ordered medium rare and one was over done and tough, there was no minted butter on the potatoes when we questioned this we were told that the minted butter had run out, we asked for ordinary butter as the boiled potato looked quite dry and were given a bowl of sliced frozen butter. Desserts were ordered and I asked for a cup of tea with it and I was told they had run out of normal tea, not a tea bag available apparently. I have to say that the staff were doing well in difficult circumstances, they were clearly understaffed and seemed resigned to providing a poor service as much of the menu wasn’t available. All in all a very poor experience.

This place has always been a regular for my family serving nice food with great customer service...how things have changed. It's absolutely gone down hill. Last visit we had just put it down to being short staffed. Took the family here again and it's even worse! Slimey undercooked/off chicken. They Couldn't do anything about it because some had been eaten. Yes the 13 year old ate some them but she doesn't know any different. I tried one and had to spit it out. Also had to complain the chips,they where so over done and hard I've kept one to take to work with me to use as a hammer. This place has gone downhill faster than Manchester United. Ordered drinks to begin with that never came until prompted another couple also said the same thing whilst we waited to pay our bills. We asked for a desert menu (to keep the kids happy only, i certainly wouldn't have wanted to eat anything else here ) We got those menus .........no service after that.......so no dessert......again the other couple mentioned this also. Complete shambles this evening short staffed or not. I almost forgot. Originally ordered 2 mixed grills Didn't have rump so they couldn't do it. Not a problem Just a burger then " sorry we can only do chicken burgers " What sort of eatery has this become where half the menu is unavailable. Biggest waste of £80 odd quid this evening. Won't return again this evenings experience was disgusting and shameful Just a quick edit in response to the managers attempt to belittle a customer ! As a paying customer if I complain that the chicken was s#*t that's final , I'm paying it for it not yourself. If I say your staff struggled and therefore service was slow and not up to the pubs regular high standard that's final, I'm paying for the service you are not. The response you gave about NOT being short staffed i find comical mainly because the waitress who served us told us you 🤦🤣!! If I complain that the chips where overdone and as hard as a rock that's also final because guess what ......again its me that is out of pocket. Get of your high horse and read your reviews.....take note and respond with action Especially the recent ones Your response suggests you know better than all those who have had bad experiences here. Not to patronise and tell you how to do your job or anything but if I was a manager knowing that I pretty much have nothing on the menu, I'd most likely let my staff know at the start of the shift. This would save them a walk to the kitchen only to come back and apologise several times. A pub gets most of its reputation from a customers word of mouth. That's key in your line of work. The customers make a decent pub Never the other way round. IF YOU WAS THE COUPLE IN FRONT OF US DEMANDING YOUR BILL ON THURSDAY 16TH NOVEMBER AND YOUR READING THIS ......PLEASE.....PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE 🤣 they were ready to walk without paying it was that bad 👎 Just take note of what myself and an ever-growing amount of customers are telling you. AWFUL EXPERIENCE I was with the 80th Birthday group that have left several complaints and I am firstly, dismayed at the responses. All looks like the replies have been copied and pasted. As for saying, that the booker of the meal must not be contacted as was a surprise, if I'm not mistaken, surely the booker knows they've booked a meal so the surprise was not for the "booker". What a ridiculous statement. Otherwise, how is it a surprise Secondly, how did the staff know that the Birthday Girl, my mum, was indeed late because at no time did anyone check our table to see if all of the party were present. Thirdly, my sister was the " booker" and at no time was she informed that a deposit was needed for the room upstairs so that's another silly comment, we were all informed that we could get upstairs to trim up from 9.30 and when my younger sister got to the pub early to trim upstairs, was told we had not booked upstairs , and to top that off, my sister, her husband and daughter had to move all the tables to seat 30 of us as remember, we were a group booking for my mums 80th Birthday Absolutely appalling behaviour from the young bar maid already spoken about from my other family members. She was clearly overwhelmed but very miserable and rude to us at the bar. The deputy manager had a terrible attitude and wanted to listen to only himself. Absolutely no apology from him. We Absolutely did not have 2 waitresses to our table , my Neice was actually "the waitress " so she was unable to enjoy her meal. I could go on with other things that we were not happy with but most had already been said All in all, what should have been a very nice afternoon for my mums milestone birthday totally ruined.
