Rumsey's Chocolaterie and Coffee Shop in Aylesbury Vale

This time I went to Rumsey's with just my wife although I have been several times with other members of my family since I make a point of going every time we visit my son in Tring because I love the place so much. I haven't tasted such delicious drinking chocolate anywhere. It is always so rich and velvety. I adore the stuff and, I think, could very easily get addicted to it! In addition to the actual drink they give you a very delicious little biscuit to accompany it. Every time we go, we buy some to make up at home and I can tell you it doesn't last for long - well not long enough anyway. The café itself is not very big but there are tables outside if the weather is good. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they also sell very tempting cakes and chocolates and some savouries. Parking in Wendover is very easy and the town centre is worth a visit in its own right. I urge you to go.

Very disappointed waited 20 mins for cake and tea. Carrot cake was processed and dry. We order tea for two and the milk was barely enough for one cup. Very overpriced for the poor quality - would not recommend

Popped into Rumseys as we were in Wendover and quite like their coffee. Ordered two lattes which I have to say were rather nice and a slice of carrot and orange cake. We were rather disappointed when the cake arrived as I’ve never seen such a small slice of cake, it was on the dry side and we were even more amazed when presented with the bill, £7 for a slice of cake! Wont be making that mistake again

We were new in town visiting the hills, and this was the perfect end to the trip. We sampled several bits from the menu, including the House Hot chocolate (creamy hazelnut), Rumsey mocha, churros, and milk chocolate dip. Everything was so rich and balanced, the cheese & sundried tomato scone was unbelievably moorish. The staff were also polite, kind, and welcoming. I'd definitely recommend here, and I'm looking forward to another visit.

Saw this little shop whilst driving through Wendover, so stopped to try it out. My son enjoyed a lovely ice cream, had such a choice of flavours. But sadly did not have any gluten free cones. I did think it was a little expensive (£5.00), however it was enjoyed by my young man.

Haven't been here in years, but we were in the area so popped in. Very dog friendly - downstairs and outside only, water bowls and treats offered by a friendly older woman. The younger staff are not at all friendly. Super yummy cakes, but super expensive. Hot chocolate comes in a very small cup and too sweet. Handmade chocolates look lovely but are nearly £2 each. This place needs to be a treat only occasionally. Not sure I would visit again.

First visit today after a local walk in the area. Needed warming up so we chose coffee and mince pies. Slightly shocked to discover that the mince pies which were delicious were £4.50 each! A bit of a wait for a table as it was a Saturday afternoon. Free parking nearby

Stood at the counter for minutes while about five or six teenage staff ignored me last Saturday afternoon. Had to get one of their attention , and no apology or words uttered at all by the cashier. Rude.

We had the traditional hot chocolate and desserts in this chocolate house. Everything was perfect from drink to dessert. It’s definitely a place you need to visit when be in Wendover.

i’m absolutely appalled by the mannerism of the staff. a young ginger boy served me and my mother when we took the visit and my mother asked the young boy if he said £21.90 or £31.90. He then aggressively stated “£21 love think u need your ears syringed”. i was absolutely disgusted and gobsmacked by the attitude of this young person and i hope to never see him working there again.

Rumseys is my favourite to go when I visit Wendover. Rumseys has delicious food for a reasonable price. Normally, when I visit Rumseys I have had a joyful experience with the food and the workers. However, i recently went to Rumseys for my regular cappuccino. I asked the worker where the napkins were placed as I split a bit of my coffee on the table. A small ginger boy replied saying “ making more mess for me, can’t even drink coffee properly.” He then proceeded to role his eyes at me and gave my dirty looks for the whole time I was at Rumseys. I found this experience so terrible and rude. I did not expect such a rude worker to be working at such a nice place. Next time i go, I hope that small ginger boy is not working.

Staying in Wendover for a week and visited twice because my daughter liked their ice cream so much! We sat outside with our two dogs and the staff were lovely, bringing a water bowl and treats for the dogs. Will definitely return in the future.

My daughter and I visited for a drink and snack. It was fine really and the strawberry ice cream was really good. V v expensive though.

As a chocoholic but also dairy free it is lovely to find a chocolate shop that caters for me. We had a hot chocolate and coffee and loved how we were given two chocolate drops and chocolate straw - it was all lovely.

I have long wanted to explore Wendover’s High Street (which turned out to be a wonderful place filled with quirky shops, clock tower and ancient buildings). We stopped in at Rumsey’s and were just blown away by the charming interior, warm hospitality, great service and - above all - delicious array of cakes, light bites and hot chocolate. An absolute gem, and well worth another visit. Could become a favourite!

We didn’t even get to try the lovely looking items on the menu. I am a real chocoholic so was really excited about visiting and we drove some way to do so. However upon entering the shop I was left standing in the entrance waiting to be seen as instructed by a sign and completely ignored by the 3 staff. Now they were busy but there was time to chat for some time to a colleague and a quick Hello would have sufficed, I really don’t mind waiting but being ignored is not good. Then a lady with her mother walked in and she managed to catch an eye and asked if we could have a table and the taller lady was rather rude and told her to wait, the poor ladies looked shocked and so was I. When she saw me no Hello or Thanks for waiting, only: “For 1” in a brusque tone. When my husband arrived we decided we were not putting up being treated this way so disappointingly decided to leave. Gutted but we received a warm and friendly welcome at Black Goo instead (they were busy too).

A lovely chocolate/coffee shop with super staff. Well worth a visit BUT having visited for years they have recently changed their pastry provider. Until they return to their previous supplier avoid pastries at all costs , they are awful, they used to have awesome pain...

Always absolutely scrumptious. We've had the chocolate fondue and the signature hot chocolate before and they're amazing. Today we had the chocolate torte. One with cream and one with raspberry coulis. Both were amazing.

Verity who was waiting on tables made our family visit fabulous. She was well informed, chatty and very friendly. Food and drinks were great, we had a variety of different things. Best hot chocolate - delicious. We will all return.

This place is shambles. Absolutely a joke and a rip off. They think they are Gordon Ramsey and definitely worst place I have been by far. Avoid! Not even covid secure and they have workers who are coughing all over. Avoid to not catch covid!

Visited here on many occasions over the years never had an issue to complain or complement one way or the other. Visited here the other week and again coffee is ok not the best but not the worst. Eats are why you come in here...

We were treated to a Rumsey's voucher by our daughters for our anniversary. We used it to buy an amazing chocolate fondue. We tried very hard, but couldn't quite manage it all. It was really delicious.

Awful customer service, stood in shop for 10 minutes in clear view of the servicing staff to then be told that they would not serve any takeaway coffees. Spoke to the manageress who announced this, she apologised, but still didn’t serve me. Obviously need some organising and customer service skills help!

Fabulous family run chocolaterie in lovely village setting. Delicious food and drink, vegan options (mango dairy free ice cream is fabulous), chocolate chocolate chocolate! Take home packs of chocolate flakes so you can recreate the hot chocolate at home too. Highly recommended.

Had a tasty brunch here - the Rumsey's mocha was delicious and came with an unexpectedly fancy piece of their chocolate, and the bacon brie toastie was a good size and tasty! The outdoor seating in the town square is a great place to sit and enjoy the sun while watching people pass by

I'd never been here before, but the person I visited with had. It was fairly small inside, also quite busy. We seated ourselves upstairs and went downstairs to order. Our order was brought to us relatively quickly. Overall a nice place for a quick cuppa.

A real treat if you are a chocoholic like me! The Wendover Waffle is delicious and something very indulgent. Hot chocolate is the best I've ever tasted and the service and ambience is wonderful. Thoroughly recommend this jewel of a coffee shop. Worth every penny. Not sure the lunches are value for money (go to Crumbs instead) but the cakes, chocs and waffles are fab. Don't worry about the calories - you can always walk up Coombe Hill afterwards.

It's a great place for an informal business meeting and my colleagues love it. Great staff, friendly service, hot chocolate to die for. Perfect cosy retreat in the winter and also lovely to sit outside with an ice cream in the summer. Highly recommended.

I recently visited Thame on a Sunday afternoon to find the Thame branch very busy, with people almost fighting each other to get a table once it was vacated. So I headed to Wendover and found a slightly more civilized branch of Rumsey’s. We sat upstairs on the mezzanine floor (reached by some quite steep steps). I had been wanted to have one of their excellent homemade mince pies, but whilst Thame had some available Wendover was sold out, so I tried a Barnaby Bun instead. I must admit I did not really enjoy the Barnaby Bun, but the coffee was better made than Thame and overall it was a much more relaxed café / chocolate shop (there were even newspapers that you could borrow).As they were not busy we were able to relax and enjoy our refreshments without people hovering to get our table. On my next visit (which hopefully will not be too far away) I think I may order the chocolate selection to have we our drinks – a neighbouring table did so and I was quite envious!

I ate here on a weekday lunchtime with friends over from New Zealand. Rumseys have an excellent selection of tasty food at good prices. The menu is straightforward and was perfect for our varied tastes. We all agreed it was delicious. As well as enjoying our meal we were able to take some hand made chocolates back with us for later.

This was a second trip to Rumsey's and this little visit was truly the icing on a lovely couple of days wpent in the area.The service was first class - all the staff whom we interacted with were extremely polite and helpful. An international crisis was avoided when one of the siad waitresses explained that the chocolate-covered cherries were in the display cabinet but not didn't have their own label!! So chocolate was bought - to top up supplies sghould we get snowed in later on in the year!- coffees (of diferent types) drunk and flap jack eaten. Would recommend this place any time.

Decided to stop and try this coffee shop, very busy but a quaint place, our waitress was helpful and pleasant . Ordered 2 Latte, Breakfast Waffle and a Coffee and Walnut cake, after some time the coffee and cake arrived...... ok so far so good. However 20 minutes later, eat the cake and drank our coffees, both very nice but still NO Breakfast Waffle. Other customers who come in after us had all their food delivered at the same time. 10 minutes later still no sight of the Breakfast Waffle. the service was poor and the food expensive ; for this overall rating is only a 3.

I’ve eaten here several times ... it’s so good! Milkshakes in the summer, hot drinks when needed, cakes, ice cream, healthy light main meals (soups, salads). Newspapers and WiFi. Friendly staff and afternoon sun. And you can watch the chocolate being made.

Popped in for coffee and ended up ordering some lunch. I had the pate which was very tasty and fresh it was served with the most delicious bread and the most devine crumbly oat biscuits. I also had the hazelnut merangue which was to die for. The staff were very friendly and polite. The only downside was the stairs. I will most definitely be returning.

I work in London, and I came to see a client in Aylesbury for meetings for the whole day. Afterwards, I was feeling rather tired so I thought i'd pop over to Rumsey's Chocolaterie and Coffee Shop before I left back to London as it was local and looked decent.

Rumsey’s is like a little oasis in my busy life. When it all feels too much I pop into here for a spot of rest, relaxation and of course something scrummy to eat and drink.

We had a fabulous afternoon here. The service was first rate and the chocolate was to die for. Hope to return again soon!

Been to Rumsey’s several times. Always lovely food served by courteous friendly staff. Food is always fresh and tasty and the handmade chocolates are to die for. Always come home with a slice of cake or a few chocolates as a treat later.

We were recommended to visit Rumsey’s a few months prior to our visit and it met all expectations. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the chocolate and coffee is to die for. We would visit more frequently if we lived closer, but looking forward to another hot drink and chocolate fix soon :)

If you like ice cream you will adore Rumseys ice cream! Our trip into Thame with our grandchildren is always fun. The staff are very kind and always make sure they talk to the children.

I have visited Rumseys on a number of occasions over the years and always receive a warm welcome.

I went to Rumsey’s cafe with my husband and two small children and we were very impressed at the range of food options and particularly the mouth watering cakes and chocolates (the children loved looking in the cabinets at all the goodies!). The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure the kids had a lovely time (which means I did too!). I’ve been to both the Thame and Wendover shops now and love them both. We’ll be back!

I can not get enough of Rumseys! Their chicken and bacon sandwich (specifically theirs, I would never unusually eat them) is literally my favourite sandwich in the world and it’s pretty much the only place I will eat bacon, I don’t know why but it’s just so good.

We have been going to Rumseys for years. Not only do they make the best hot chocolate but the additional little touches are what makes it so very special. (Chocolate on the side and the service). All their own chocolates are made on site and this is well worth watching. Well worth a visit .

We first visited Rumsey’s when it opened and I was pregnant with our first son. He is now 15 and we still make a point of popping in for coffee, chocolates and fabulous cake whenever we’re in the area. And when we’re not, we order chocolates online. This is a lovely family business with high standards and great staff. And the boys still love your homemade ice cream and chocolate buttons! Highly recommended.

Popped in for an ice-cream. The cakes and chocolates looked fab. The ice-cream was just amazing, so tasty and fresh. A decent sized portion too.

We often come to Rumseys both in Wendover and Thame. Both shops are full of character and charm. Staff are polite and helpful and nothing is ever too much trouble especially when we visit with demanding children!!! Food is delicious. We tend to come for cake and tea and the selection is brilliant with so many home made bakes to choose from. They recently started making some of the Bake Off cakes which are fab! Lunches are superb also with very generous portions, brie, bacon and cranberry toastie is a particular favourite. I always come away with a beautiful box of home made chocolate treats

What fantastic gift voucher and online service The Rumsey Chocolatier family provides. They were helpful, friendly and efficient.

I visited with my husband and x2 children (2 yr olds) and we were very impressed with the service. They went out of their way to assist us and the kids loved trying the yummy chocolates and sticking their fingers in the banana split. The food was great and we will for sure go back soon!

My friend & I paid a visit to this cafe, the price of a slice of cake is definitely overpriced & not worth it as the cakes were nothing special.

We are new to the area and decided to visit on a hot Sunday afternoon with our young niece & nephew.

My husband and I visited this morning, I had the best carrot cake I think I.have ever had. My husband had the scrambled eggs on toast, he was very happy, he said lovely brown bread toasted properly. Yum yum. So thank you Rumsey we will see you soon.

Both myself and my partner agreed that ‘‘this establishment served the best ice cream we had probably ever eaten. Also do homemade chocolates and some savoury snacks.

We paused here for lunch following our visit to the Trenchard Museum. Nearing the tail end of our 3 week UK visit, this was one of the most enjoyable lunches to date. We had the chickpea sandwich (much better than the typical hummus spread one usually gets from chickpeas) and roasted veggie sandwich. Nice homemade style food. We couldn’t leave without sampling the chocolate which in a word was “wow”.

A veritable feast of homemade chocolate. Atmosphere was homely and cosy. Service was a trifle eccentric. The chocolates we bought to take away were re-wrapped. A shame we didn't get to see them making the chocolates.

Visited with family...it is a small place but managed to get a table. The service was fantastic and there is a huge choice of cakes desserts and sandwiches etc. We just had a coffee and cake and it did not disappoint...the portions were big and the cakes were amazing. They were served with ice cream or fresh cream. Would definitely recommend and intend to visit again. Maybe try some of their chocolates next time. The coffee was great too!

I took my 9 yr old daughter here for breakfast on a whim during the Easter hols and we were lucky enough to find a table. We had bacon, maple syrup and waffles, churros and hot chocolate (all very naughty). The staff were friendly and didn't rush us. The food was yummy and we were thoroughly stuffed. The bill was rather on the high side but I was prepared for it. It's a lovely little cafe with chocolate made on the premises adding to the yummy aromas inside. My daughter was very pleased and we bought some cake for my hubby at home too. Lovely place for a little treat just be prepared to pay for it.

Dropped in here with family after a lovely Spring walk up Coombe Hill, seeking lunch and refreshment and we were impressed, I had the Vegan sandwich (Chickpea) and my wife had pate - both delicious. Service was extremely good, professional and friendly and the place was full, so it's obviously a sound choice. This is how to do it. Cheap, fast, professional and memorable.

My first visit today was for a birthday lunch. My friend recommended the mushroom, shallot and gouda toastie and boy, was she spot on. It was delicious and the portion size was surprisingly generous. Unfortunately, my latte wasn't the best - just served in a regular cup so not nearly milky enough, but okay. The children were really pleased with the complimentary chocolates! Just shy of a tenner for a hot drink and toastie - about right for this kind of independent eatery, I think. I would definitely return.
