Underrated Indian gem of Scarborough. Visiting from the south East hut I was looking for a well priced Indian to break up the fish and chips the last few days and blimey they delivered. Food was brilliant, quick, well priced and a bit of banter with the staff, very pleased. Definitely recommend

The starter I had was excellent. The Rogan Josh was nicely spicy. Will go again next year, I think. Well placed in the middle of Scarborough too.

Absolutely gorgeous food. The perfect balance of spice and flavour. I don't normally like bhajis, but the ones here are so good that they could convert me. The most delicious, perfect garlic naan too.

Had a takeaway this evening onion bhaji starter 3.95 2 bhaji arrived flat and very small each bhaji smaller than the size of top of a coke can. 3 bags of chips also in the order 2.95 each portion no more than a mcdonalds medium portion.... spent 65 pounds on our takeaway tonight disappointed with portion size!

It may be that the people writing the rather suspicious and uniform ‘excellent’ reviews have never had a curry before in their lives or didn’t go on a Wednesday/Sunday, but this was a truly terrible experience from beginning to end!! We phoned several days in advance to book a table for 7 pm and arrived early on the night just in case it was busy. We had our 9 year old daughter with us who was very keen to try curry for the first time whilst we were on a weekend break. However, it was clear that there was no booking system in place at all and our name had not been taken when we phoned as several other families in the queue had also supposed booked in advance and no names were taken or acknowledged. We waited for 30 minutes to be allocated a table, and in all honesty it should’ve been at that point that we simply left and went elsewhere as many other families seemed to be doing. to be fair, our order and drinks order were taken quickly, and the poppadoms that we asked for arrived within 10 minutes. However, it was another one hour until our starters arrived with the food really very poor. Unfortunately, by this time the night had been effectively ruined as our daughter was in tears due to the wait on food, the overall intensity of the manic atmosphere in the restaurant and the perpetual shouting and swearing from a table nearby that was never addressed. By the time the mains arrived it was 9:15 pm and parts of our order were missed off but we simply did not have the time of the patients to correct this. I cannot say that the food was poor but it was barely average and we had gone past caring by this point. We were brought the bill of two other tables whilst we were eating our main meals and everyone around us was bemused at the wait and poor level of service. When we did go to pay, the parts of our order order that we did not receive were still on our Bill and represented with two small alcoholic drinks which has nondrinkers seemed to be the icing on the cake of what was a truly terrible night. We had planned to eat quickly hence why we booked the table for 7 pm, with a view to going down onto the front at Scarborough with our daughter to the amusements and to get an ice cream. It was 9:45 pm by the time that we left the restaurant, so we had to return straight back to our hotel.

It was Lovely food. The Service was good. It was Reasonably priced. The staff were very Friendly. Atmosphere was relaxed.

The place was open late which was great for us as we had been out site seeing all day. Staff were attentive and the food was excellent. Plastic menus but excellent choices available.

I have to give this place credit where it’s due! I’m not one to leave reviews, I say I will and always forget, they didn’t even ask and I still went out of my way. The chicken madras we have ordered twice, when on a weeks break in Scarborough and now I’m actually fuming that I have to drive nearly 2 hours to get the best tasting curry, I won’t even be ordering another curry back home anymore after tasting this. Poor... vindaloo was like dish water, chicken tikka seemed to be steamed+ tasteless (instead of oven cooked/dry). Food service trolley was filthy, the floor was full of 'dropped' food and there were dead roses in vases on the tables! Main course was brought to the table before we had finished eating our starters..Wouldn't return, even though the staff were friendly.

During my visit in Scarborough I have decided to take my fiancé to Royal Tandoori for his birthday meal. I was very curious about this place as the reviews are very mixed and I like to find out for myself rather than rely solely on the reviews. We were greet and sat at the table straight away upon arrival. It was very busy in the restaurant that evening and it turned out it was one of the days when meals were 50% off which was amazing surprise! We both enjoyed our starters, mains and drinks. Staff was very polite and ran restaurant smoothly despite it being very busy. Portion sizes are very generous and we only end up paying little more than £25. Thank you and we will surely come back again when visiting Scarborough.

Nan bread doughy uncooked, also asked if the somasas were reasonable size not the tiny ones which you buy from tescos but they were the tiny ones which we were told their reasonable size restaurant made. Curry was like a Chinese with uncooked onions and peppers. Also was told that they have two different prices rudely, one for takeaway and one for eat in. Yes it was your restaurant I been to stop denying it. False feedback won’t get your business any busier.

Lovely food, clean and fresh, the restaurant was quiet when we were in so not much of an atmosphere, waiters were chatty and friendly

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Lovely surroundings, staff and amazing food. Special mention to Shah, a brilliant host and Sam who were great with my little Nephew.

Half off food Wednesday and Sunday so we went on for our first time to try. Wednesday 6pm and it's busy. An informal curry place with tasty curry. Draught Cobra £5. Relaxed place for an easy meal. CASH ONLY, at least when the offer is on.

Booked online and was reserved within 5 minutes. Celebrating Webo's 60th. Waiting staff were fantastic, took time to help a couple of us who wanted to slightly change the dishes. Starters and mains were delicious and clean plates from all of us Bonus that it was half price Wednesday Would definitely have paid full price. Please open a restaurant in Sheffield!! Excellent service and food !

The food is delicious and is my favourite place to eat in Scarborough.

Called in for a curry last night and was not disappointed. We opted for a Chicken tikka main and a king prawn Dupiaza.Couldnt fault it. Delicious food great service .Very friendly Staff.will definitely return .....

Visited here last night for the first time with friends that were locals. A group 12 of us and nothing was too much trouble. Table was set so we could all chat. Friendly staff, great food and atmosphere. They also gave us little Bailey’s FOC. Thank you we will definitely be back next time we are in Scarborough. X

We went last Wednesday evening with meals at half price. We had a lamb biryani which was excellent. The restraunt which had been updated recently was very pleasant. The service was exceptional. The price for 2 lamb biryani's and 2 pints of corbra was 25 pound. A brilliant night out.

The food is amazing! Best we’ve had , the staff are all lovely and chatty, they make you feel very welcome and go out of there way to assist you with anything!

Good food, staff welcoming, good value on a Sunday evening

Recommended by a friend and loved up to expectations, crispy poppadoms with chutneys and lovely fresh onion. We both had onion bhaji, crispy and light with shredded iceberg. Naan was light and fluffy, bhuna spicy with fresh veg, and chicken tikka was tender and flavoursome, two beers each and just over £60 - great value, lovely service, clean and fresh. (Even the loos - important!)

Excellent, top food, even better midweek deal at 50% off and friendly staff...advisable to book.

I can quite honestly say this is the worst Indian takeaway I’ve ever eaten, the food was tasteless & watery, I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place for a delivery, it might be ok to eat in though! All the courses had no flavour.

Terrible takeaway. Butter chicken way way too sweet, none of us could eat it, ended up getting thrown. Madras didn't taste anything like a madras, ok to eat I guess. Chicken tikka masala was very average, but at least edible. The naan was small, too soft, microwaved? Anyway, not impressed, regrettable. Wont be ordering again.

I recently visited a here and unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The wait time exceeded an hour and a half, which was quite frustrating. When the food finally arrived, I couldn't help but notice that the curry lacked the authenticity and depth of flavor that I'm accustomed to, especially when comparing it to standards set in places like Bradford or Leicester. The saving grace was that the food was half price, but even that couldn't compensate for the disappointing experience overall.

We went on the half price night, 4 of us ate, All had starters, a main and a drink as well as a couple of side it was £51! An absolute bargain! The food was delicious and as a vegan they couldn't do enough to accommodate me, very friendly staff and all in all a great experience, we'll def be back!

Poor food actually... Tandori butter chicken was anything but... Definitely not Tandori chicken and it tasted like a horrible chicken korma... Aldi is better actually... Well they say you buy cheap you buy twice....correct on Sunday eve for half price...

We stayed in Scarborough for my father in laws 80th birthday. Went to this restaurant on the Saturday night with a party of 14 including 4 kids. What an amazing place this is. The food was brilliant. Plenty of huge chicken breast pieces in the curries. Big sized portions for the starters. The Naan bread was perfect and not too doughy with a crispy base and plenty of meat in the keema. The thing that made it extra special was the staff. The customer service is amazing. So great with the kids especially. One particular guy... his name is Shah was absolutely outstanding. We couldn't have wanted anything more. I would definitely recommend this place. Fantastic experience. Fantastic food. Fantastic staff. 20 out of 10

We booked a table for 14 on Saturday night for my husbands 80th birthday. As we're not from Scarborough we had no idea where to go. We were very pleased with the restaurant. The food was excellent and the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. I would certainly recommmend this restaurant.

Wow, super fast service, great tasty food and it was a half price Wednesday too!! Great offer and I challenge anyone to find better food for the full price, never mind at 50% off! Fabulous!!

Visited on 23rd for a birthday curry with our friends. Staff were very friendly, food was excellent and reasonably priced. It is the best curry we have had outside Newport South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ! Would recommend 100%.

The food was definitely not tasty. Very bland curry and naans were like buns. Ordered chicken momos and received some chicken tikka and chicken cutlet/ sandwich type starter. Waiter explained that this was an 'Indian chicken momo'. As an Indian, I can confirm, NO, it is not.

Haven't been here in over 8 years in that time I can't remember the difference my chicken vindaloo was fantastic very very warm, if you get the chance to visit save till Sunday as half price so a bargain went with a big party for a birthday celebration the staff very friendly and always on hand. Will be back for sure.

Tasted nothing like a madras curry, powdery, bland, watery hardly any chicken . The rice was bright yellow, the chips were burnt with bits of scraps and other black bits of pakora and god knows what. Re heated Chapatis. avoid, worst curry we've ever had. We are very lucky in Scarborough to have loads of good Indian restaurants. But Royal Tandoori has the edge in my opinion. Dining in the food and service are faultless.Takeaway delivery is always within the promised time and arrives nice and hot.

We ate here last week after reading the good reviews but it was disappointing. 7 adults I had Tandoori chicken as a main course which came with lettuce, the chicken was really tasteless. My husband had mutter paneer which was really sweet he couldn’t eat it. My friend said hers was really sweet too. The others didn’t have a problem with theirs. It’s a shame really. When we paid at the end we had to pay cash which we already knew but didn’t even get a proper receipt so we could share the bill out.

We love our Indian food and as we were staying at Scarborough we decided to get one . Big mistake picking here ! We picked it as it’s just up the road (literally) so it was £2 delivery which is fine but the food was unbelievable in a bad way. Rice was bland almost as bland as microwave rice. The chicken tikka was ok and the naans we ordered were meant to be cheese and garlic , they were plain , dry and fake. Honestly I was embarrassed in front of my family of such a bad meal.

They took half of our drinks order and then walked away. I felt judged for ordering a bottle of wine rather than a glass, they refused to give us a jug of water and questioned why we wanted tap water alongside soft drinks. Staff were rude and made us feel unwelcome. They pressured us to order poppadoms even though two people in the group were standing without chairs. When we told the waiter we wanted to wait to order until we were comfortable he laughed at us. After half an hour, when the table next to us had still not been given the bill and our drinks had not come yet we decided to leave and go to Scarborough Tandoori (highly recommend). When we told them we were leaving they said ‘okay’ with no apology. We have since been made aware of their one star food hygiene rating.

Definitely worth a visit we took advantage of the half price deal they do on a Sunday and was not a disappointment. Staff were friendly and helpful atmosphere was great. We ordered a selection of starters, mains and sides to be eaten at the same time which was no problem. Everything was delivered to the table together all hot. They do only take cash not sure of this is only when it's half price but there is a cashpoint just round the corner. All in all a very pleasant evening

We visited here recently whilst in Scarborough for a birthday weekend. Whilst the food was what can only be described as average and small in portion, I must describe how I think we were massively overcharged. When I paid the bill at the end of the meal I thought it was expensive but assumed they'd get it correct as we didn't order much (£62 for 2 curries, 1 English meal, rice, naan and 4 drinks). Having sat down this morning and calculated the price it should have come to £52 so we were charged an additional £10. We did also have poppadoms but I can't imagine they would charge £10 for those. Would I recommend, probably not.

Was one of the only places open when I went out for dinner, so I was ready for anything - but actually they more than exceeded my expectations with a really delicious meal. Great service, great meal. Slightly more expensive than I'd planned for but I honestly didn't mind much.

Really enjoyed our food. Served quickly, staff polite, premises seemed clean HOWEVER bit horrified to notice from another review that they have only 2star hygiene rating (checked and it's true) this I think needs working on.

The delivery driver was very rude, giving my partner abuse and being racist. Rang tried to say our order was outside, but he was at the bottom end of the street and refused to drive up the street to our front door. When my partner explained that he was at the bottom of the street and she wasn't walking down to him as it was midnight and she was in her pyjamas, he said "I'm not your chauffeur” and started tugging on his jacket, saying “You English people should know better”. I am appalled with his attitude, which definitely is not of the customer service nature expected of a delivery driver. I immediately called to complain after my partner told me about this, but they refused to answer.

We ordered a meal for three via UberEats for a scheduled delivery before opening hours. Unfortunately Royal Tandoori does not use UberEats delivery staff, and as a consequence, the delivery status of the order isn't as accurate as it could be. After the order was in excess of 30 minutes late, we called to enquire where our order was only to be assured that the order was on its way. After another 10 to 20 minutes, it did finally arrive, which given that I could have walked to Queen Street in that time did not overly impress me. However, the meal itself was gorgeous, but not as hot as it could have been! Royal Tandoori have a great menu, and the meals are well cooked and full of flavour! I would definitely order from them again, but next time, I think we'll go in person!

Takeaway received Sunday 17th September was absolutely disgusting ,ordered prawn and chicken curry or which both completely tasteless like water and a total waste of money, £33 was spent .FOODRATINGS are 2 out of 5 stars which is appalling, we weren’t aware of this until after doing research after the mediocre food was received . AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

I'll start with the food. The starter 'Mirch Chicken Tikka' was one of the best I've had in a very long time, just perfect. So good I went to their website just to make sure I got the name right. I had many dishes before with essentially the same ingredients, but somehow they made it something special. The main course was also very good, had a nice cucumber raita with it. The staff were very friendly and asked if I wanted to wait between the starter and main course, which was unexpected, after my brief surprise I said yes and he just said "let me know when you're ready for the main". I can't remember the last time that happened at an Indian restaurant (probably at one of the greats in Glasgow or Manchester). A very unexpected treat - oh and by the way, much better than Scarborough Tandoori, which I ate at the previous night and also left a review :)

In short, This restaurant was absolutely amazing. Greeted as we walked in and sat down, popadoms came within a couple of minutes, drinks straight away too. The service here was amazing, all the staff were so so nice and we both felt like royalty! The curry only took around 10-15 minutes (on a Saturday night too) and the taste… wow! Easily the best curry I’ve ever had from an indian restaurant. Will definitely come back and I couldn’t recommend a restaurant more, thank you so much for a great birthday meal guys! All the best :)

Very good food , staff very friendly . We went on half price Wednesday, very busy had to wait for our table even though we booked and long wait for food but it was nice and good portion but over hungry the time the main came .

We had this restaurant recommended by several people after mentioning we fancied a curry. It was perfectly fine but nothing I would say was amazing. The service is generally very efficient and we were served quickly in a busy restaurant. The starters were good and clearly slowly/well cooked so that the meat was tender. The main courses were perfectly fine by way of sauce and quantity although my lamb was a little chewy for my liking. Overall, I would say average and not sure that I would rush back although I’m not sure what other options are available in Scarborough. The overall bill was expensive really for me and my 15 year old son (£75 including three drinks) and I could just as good a meal at home for half the price.

We booked a table for 7pm and didn’t end up getting food until 8:30. The staff were friendly but four of us were unable to eat our curries because they were just pure sugar. Even sweeter than desserts. We ordered different curries but they all tasted the same, the only flavour was sugar. My mum had prawns and threw up after we left.

Please note this review is NOT about the food because we didn't get any despite booking a table. On arriving at the restaurant we had no option but to stand in the doorway with other disgruntled customers. Eventually a staff member informed us that he would let us know when a table became available. At this point an apology would have been nice but we didn't get one. A quick scan of the tables told us our wait would not be a short one so we decided to quit and ended up having a meal in an Indian restaurant just a 50 metres away.

The meal was great. We ordered one chicken jalfrezi and one vegetable jalfrezi, as well as naan and tandoori roti for two individuals. However, we truly asked an extra hot curry when the server stated that the curry variety we ordered was already hot enough. We put our faith in him. As I already stated, the food was wonderful, however as we finished, while removing the plates, the server asked me why I hadn't eaten the chillies in the curry if you had ordered the extra hot curry. This behaviour struck me as arrogant and impolite.

The restaurant was recommended to us by a local hotelier. We took advantage of the half price food offer that is available on Sunday and Wednesday. Having looked at some of the recent reviews i nearly changed my mind! However i am glad that we didn't. We enjoyed poppadoms, 2 main meals, sharing chips and naan bread with a couple of beers and a glass of wine. Great value at around £35 Food was excellent, service was very good. Slight pain was that there was signs outside saying cash only which meant a slight detour to the cashpoint.

Well where do I start!!!!!!! Food took2 hours from ordering, food was incorrect, garlic nan was absolutley tastless along side 4 main dishes. My experiance of the food, have u ever tasted dirty cold dish waster????? The chicken was hard and the juice tasted like hot water with no flavour. After been really hungry this was unedible but to be honest ate it because we was all starving!!!!!! Avoid like the plague

Absolutely lovely restaurant, best korai ive ever had and the loveliest staff. 1000% reccomend. We had a hard favourite in the area until I tried the royal tandoori and now here is our new fave.

Absolutely do not try it. It’s fake and tasteless food has no where near an authentic flavour. All the curries which came out we exactly the same colour sauce. We ordered one of their specialties which also was the same orange colour as all the others. Completely flavourless despite my partner asking they make it Asian style. They were very unsure about this and I now believe it’s because the one curry sauce they do is mass prepped in advance and is altered only by adding the meats etc !!! The starter came out absolutely dripping in grease and was sent back. We returned half our order and shared the rest. The girl on the next table ordered vegetable rice and it was clearly a frozen microwave bag looked awful . Terrible waste of money you be better at a local takeaway Do Not RISK it

Nice Curry with very good service, shame the meat quality wasn't great. We were a gang of 8 and we all experienced the same issue of poor quality chicken. Otherwise it was a nice tasting meal and well presented.
