Indian Taj in Scarborough

One of our favourite Indian restaurants in town. Stunning food and great friendly service. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and all the staff and very kind and friendly. We love coming here and would recommend to others. Idieally situated next to an off licence to buy your chosen tipple (if you fancy and for a small corkage charge).

Taj restaurant on Falsgrave. Don't go there. I worked there for two days. What they feed people is sick. I saw one employee in the kitchen peeing in his food. I warn and caution. And one more thing they steal 20 percent when you pay by card.

The food was delicious and served quickly, complemented by excellent hospitality from the staff. Sufain was especially kind and polite, recommending great vegetarian options for me that day. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Highly recommended— a must-visit! The flavors cater well to both South Indian and North Indian tastes.

Great food with very attentive staff

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Indian Taj Restaurant, and I must say, it was an incredible experience. The food was amazing. Each dish was crafted to perfection, making it hard to pick a favorite! The service was exceptional, with the Manager going above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel welcomed and valued. The manager was so nice to me and my husband. To top it all off, the dessert was a highlight of the evening. The ice cream was simply amazing—creamy and rich, it was the perfect way to end our meal. I also loved the fresh flowers in the little tiny vase on our table; they added a lovely touch to the ambiance and made the dining experience even more special. Overall, I highly recommend Indian Taj Restaurant for anyone looking for great food and excellent service.

We dined as a group of three. The manager was very friendly and welcoming. The garlic naan was delicious, and Special Vegetable Kadai was flavorful, perfectly spiced, and stood out as a highlight. The Bombay Aloo was exceptional as well!

Great if you like to get scammed. Buyer beware, the only restaurant in the country that presents you with a menu with food prices that don't include VAT, which is then added to your bill later. Not only is this underhand and sharp practice, it is ILLEGAL.

Take away packing is absolutely fascinating. Eco friendly packing, clean restaurant, friendly and polite staff, food was piping Hot. Simply best in Town. Highly recommended.

Ordered food from this place yesterday for the first time. They provided very good guidance on the menu, adjusted spices to our liking, the food packaging was very impressive, good quantity, hot and fresh, staff was very polite and gave us a 10% discount. The pricing is very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. With the limited amount of places offering halal or Desi food, this is a must try :)

Our first visit tonight, to celebrate my husband’s 40th, following reccomendations from his colloeagues. We arrived about 5 minutes before opening (without a reservation) and they opened the door with “Sir, Madam, Young Sirs, please come from the cold” When we told them we had no reservation, the manager checked the bookings and said “I squeeze you in, we have til 6.30 my friends.” We never felt rushed - service was prompt and respectful… I even had to ask the chap to backtrack when it came time to pay the bill because he bypassed the gratuity section (where so many businesses now hand the card reader to you with the gratuity options as a “taken for granted you want to tip”). The other tables filled up very quickly, and everyone was smiling and laughing… I never saw a single table sending a dish back or waiting for service. Light background music added to a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. My husband commented that he’s never had service to this level anywhere - they quickly learned the names of our children and addressed them by “master x” throughought, whilst we remained Sir/ Madam. Hats off to the manager - he was completly aware of every table and either adressomg their needs directly or quietly directing a colleague to help so nobody was left waiting! Soiled napkin? No problem - a fresh one was presented before you’d set the dirty one down. Cold child? A portable radiator was quickly set up (again, without us even saying our youngest was chilly sat by the door) with “for you, young master x, be warm” The food was beyond phenominal- perfectly seasoned, promptly served - neither so fast that you felt rushed nor so slow that you felt abandoned. Beyond impressed with the price - I genuinely expected the bill to be 50% higher than it was for the quality of the food and the size of the portions. It’s nice to find a local place that doesn’t overcharge and take advantage of their customers and still deivers 5* service and food. Will definately be heading back - it’s our new go-to place for celebrations!

Lovely small business, overall the food was really good. The starter we ordered (mixed starter platter for two) was nice and varied, but the meat seemed to be overcooked, as it was a little dry. The main courses were excellent, the meat was more tender and the sauce of the achari was lovely (tasted like a thick, smoky tomato-based curry). Staff were very polite, friendly and the service was nice and quick. The only negative on this side of things was that the prices on the menu were excluding VAT, which is not something I've experienced in any restaurant before - so factor this in before ordering. Despite this, the food and service was still worth the price paid.

Best curry in Scarborough and great value. Chicken Akhan was gorgeous, very hot but very flavourful. Wonderful fresh and hot garlic naan. Great service.

Disappointed, firstly they messed the order up. It was cold, the door to the kitchen made a noise every time someone went through. Received the bill only to be told VaT had to be added. The restaurant started off well, however, don't feel the food is the same standard. Will definitely be avoiding in the future.

We moved here yesterday and fancied something hot and fulfilling. An excellent meal with good flavours and tender meat. A little colder than we would like but it was a cold night. Will be popping in soon for a sit in experience. Many thanks. 🙏

Yet another fabulous takeaway from the TAJ, they never disappoint and, great value for money. They have also moved over to paper packaging instead of plastic, well done to them, that is brilliant.

Ordered a delivered meal whilst on a break in Scarborough and it has to be said, one of our best Indian meals of all time, the Pickle tray super tasty with choice of flavoured or plain poppadoms, garlic chilli chicken main with pilau rice was awesome and their peshwari nan bread was simply the best we have ever had, was mango infused which made such a difference . This place is well worth a try, the delivery driver very friendly and on time, food piping hot, Very impressive. Will deffo order again when next in Scarborough. "Thankyou" to all at Indian Taj

Monday evening meal with my Daughter, she is very new to Indian and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. A delicious platter of mixed items to try and for me the Chicken Shashlick for me was delicious. Will deffo be going back.

Asked for mild korma, well it came that sweet it was inedible. The young lad said manager would be over but he never came. Worst curry ever. Would not recommend

Starter was a paneer sag, to be fair it was a nice starter, the mains were not great, the wife had a chicken korma, it was that sweet it was inedible tasted like they had dropped a bowl of sugar in it, the had a spoonful and was nearly sick, I had lamb sag, strange smell to it like, just a meat smell no tast or even spice taste, on a positive note the rice and nan bread were OK, still charged full price even though we complained and they could see the korma was not touched.

Yasin has been very helpful every time we visit the restaurant. He is very smiley and welcoming and always happy to see us, and have us laughing He is a credit to the team and always makes our visit special 😊 Thankyou

Visited the Indian Taj whilst on holiday. The setting and ambience were great. The food and service was first rate too. I would be happy to come back again.

Everything is great, but the table by the door is next to a box with wind blowing from the street. Brrr cold

We have ordered takeaway a number of times, and it has always been excellent, but the order today bore no resemblance to the normal, tikka Marsala was tasteless and the fish sagwala extremely hot with a bitter aftertaste, we will try them again, hoping this was a one off as normally , as I said it is excellent

I had a wonderful dining experience at Indian Taj Restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The best Indian take away ever, (& we’ve had a few). Great melt in the mouth food. So much flavour & not over spiced. Great service, delivered hot & 10 minutes early. Easy to order online. You’ve got to try a Taj take away. So it’s a 10 from me.

Excellent food. I had the Bengal Chicken Karma which I recommend to anyone looking for something that allows you to taste the spices as they are not dominated by chili. I had dry spicy cauliflower as a side, and that was a great combination. Staff were great - unfortunately the previous people at "our" table were a little slow in leaving, so we couldn't be immediately seated.

Me and my husband came here this evening and ordered the meal for 2, I couldn’t believe how much food we got for the price it was excellent value for money, the staff were so polite, friendly and professional, the food came j. Great time and was absolutely delicious, it was our first time trying Taj after hearing lots of great reviews and it did not disappoint, we will definitely come back again.

Best Ever Restaurant! A little gem. Absolutely gorgeous curry. Came here with husband on 3rd July and the service was second to none and the curry itself was amazing. I like veggie stuff, my hub likes meat so I got vegetable balti and he got lamb and spinach and both were wonderful. (Yusa) I think his name was, really polite and courteous as was all the staff. I can recommend this place. The amount of different vegetables in that curry was great, and I’m not vegetarian, I just didn’t fancy any meat. So……..what are you waiting for……get yourself there and try it for yourself!

I ordered a takeaway tonight which cost me £43, it consisted of, a chicken tikka masala mushroom rice onion bhaji,mint sauce and popadums , the lamb bhuna and Bombay potatoes was missing, I called and they said the only dish what was missing was the lamb bhuna and we didn’t order Bombay potatoes. Please bear in mind this order costed us £43. We still await the lamb bhuna to be delivered one hour on….. I do not recommend this takeaway.

We ordered takeaway and it arrived earlier than stated, came in well presented containers, and tasted delicious. The delivery guy was really friendly and cheerful, I cant fault this place. I've eaten in the restaurant a few times and they always impress with the tasty food and service.

We were on holiday in Scarborough this week and fancied a takeaway one night. TAJ Indian did not disappoint. The food was so so nice and very hot on arrival. We had a butter chicken, sashlik bhuna, coconut rice, keema nan and poppadoms and pickle tray. It really was all so nice and would highly recommend this curry house.

This is the 4th time we have come here and everytime its spot on. Food is so tasty 😋 staff are so friendly and want to make you happy. This time we took my mother-in-law who is gluten free and has not had a curry in 7 years and she really enjoyed, they accommodated for her needs and she had full choice to choose a curry she wanted, Best curry in scarborough and never disappoints. The restaurant is by far the best in Scarborough, we have tried most of the Indian restaurants in the area and would not go anywhere else now. We eat here once or twice a fortnight and have tried lots of different meals from the menu we haven’t got a favourite as they have all been delicious. The set meal is really good value for money you get so much to eat we always end up taking some home. You do have to take your own alcohol but that is probably a bonus. The staff are very friendly and always make you feel welcome. The restaurant is very clean and in a good location

I went with my daughter and her friend for a meal last night. It was outstanding in EVERY respect. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was fabulous, everyone there so friendly and welcoming and the food is absolutely out of this world. I love Indian food, it's my favorite and I've been all over to various different restaurants to eat in and take away. TAJ is by far the best for both. Will not go anywhere else. Many many thanks. We arrived mid week without a reservation yet receive a very warm welcome. The staff are very friendly and provide an unhurried service. Really great food, at a reasonable price, and the take your own alcoholic policy adds to the good value.

Second time of coming here , took my son for his first curry in a restaurant and I would put 6 stars if I could , staff couldn't do enough for us and one waiter (unfortunately I didn't get his name ) went through all the dishes with him , when the food cam he waited for my son to try to check all OK.Food was fantastic , starters and main , lovely atmosphere and I would say very reasonably priced .What a fantastic place to go , the 2 members of staff that looked after us are a credit to this business, keep it up

Mid week visit. Food & service was excellent as per usual. We had starters, mains and desserts. A mixture of onion bhaji's, meat platters. For mains, chicken tikka masala, Prawn jalfrezi and Prawn shashlik with veg side dishes & naan bread. Everything was delicious, could not fault it. Ice cream & sticky toffee pudding to finish. Excellent value. Yasin one of our favourite friendly waiters was impeccable with his service & always has a big smile. Yes they do not serve alcohol but there are several shoos nearby to pop out if you forget your own.

I booked a meal for 19. Service, and food was outstanding. Lovely atmosphere and we were made very welcome.

An excellent meal, food came quickly and hot, great waiting staff. I can recommend the sylheti gosht, a lamb dish with onions in a tomato sauce, absolutely delicious.

The staff were lovely and very attentive, without being obtrusive and the restaurant was very clean and quite busy for early evening. We started with poppadoms and the pickle tray. Whilst the poppadoms were fine, the pickle tray was disappointing, consisting of two very small portions of sweet dip, a tiny portion of onion salad and NO pickle. The portions were no more than half the usual size and some pickle, say lime, would've been a welcome addition. For the main course we had Tandoori King Prawns, which were unusually spicy hot, to the extent that my partner couldn't eat them and had a so-so Aloo Saag in their place. I had King Prawn Dhansak, but as is often the case in Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants, it had too much sauce and not enough lentils. Dhansak is actually a Persian dish and when I've had it in Persian restaurants, it had much less sauce and far more yellow lentils. Also, the hot/sweet dynamic has been a lot more apparent when cooked this way. The accompanying Pilau Rice was ok without being exceptional, but the Garlic Naan was excellent. Strangely, we were brought the bill without being asked if we wanted a dessert, which is a trifle inconsiderate. On to my biggest gripe: I had forgotten, but Taj doesn't serve alcohol. If that was for cultural/religious reasons, it would be fine, but it isn't. Taj either can't get or chooses not to get, a liquor licence; again that is their business, but to suggest that customers go to the trouble of bringing their own alcohol, then making a 'corkage' charge is, to my mind, avaricious. I'll just repeat that the staff were excellent, but although this is easily my nearest Indian restaurant, I doubt I'll be back.

We have been recommended to try here for some time by our friends and family and safe to say we really glad we did listen as the food is beautiful staff is really friendly and accommodating the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome

I was most disappointed. I spent days, weeks, months dreaming of the majestic mango chutney only to find the restaurant had closed its doors earlier than the time the waiter had promised me on the phone. 🥲
