Nishat Spice Tandoori in Scarborough

Best in scarborough for curry! Great service

We’re from Birmingham so no shortage of great Indian restaurants, but this was right up there with the best. We are stopping over in our campervan in Scarborough but by 6pm there was virtually nothing open along the front if you didn’t want fish and chips. We decided to order a take away to our van which can often be a tricky affair, but a few WhatsApp messages later and we had our lovely food arrive…no hassles! Thanks very much!

Went for a meal at Nishat, booked a table here as other Indian restaurants in the area were all full at the time. Not sure if it's Indian or Bengali. The restaurant itself is quite cold, it doesn't feel like it's heated. We ordered poppadoms and pickle tray, mixed kebab, nawabi Khana curry for main with pilau rice and cheesy naan. The poppadoms tasted quite oily and only magno chutney and mint sauce on the pickle tray. The mixed kebab was ok, the bhajis tasted quite oily. The chicken tikka was really nice and probably the best thing. The seekh didn't have much flavour at all. The nawabi Khana curry is supposed to be one of the tastiest curries cooked with 21 different ingredients, this particular one lacked flavour and taste and was very oily. The green chillies were too overpowering. The pilau rice was ok but the naan was dry and didn't have much flavour. Sadly the Service service was not the best either.

Delicious food but if eating in not well heated and we needed to keep our hats and coats on to keep warm. To be fair it was very early evening but I think if they aim to be a restaurant as well as a takeaway they should appreciate the fact that their premises should be made warm from opening time.

I always find the staff polite and helpful here. The food is delicious and they have a 5 star food hygiene rating.

weve been eating at nishat for years ,tried all the others but always return to our favourite.had a takeaway . of chicken tandoori .veg rice , and madras sauce .. it was exceptional . and large portions .. lovely food , lovely staff .

Having eaten there before, ate there after a day at Yorks v Surrey, on way back to the station. Last time curries were very good, this time excellent again. Would strongly recommend. NB unlicensed, but can bring own alcohol in, the nearby 'Onestop' sells Cobra in cans. UPDATE Sept 2023, cricket again, curry lovely, but Onestop didn't have Cobra in :-(

Placed order on website for 7pm delivery. My son rang me from home to say it had been delivered at 6.35pm. When I contacted them and explained I was not home, they started making excuses about containers will keep food warm. Would be interested to know what they would have done if my son was not home. Food was lukewarm. Will not be ordering again.

Nice Indian restaurant on the edge of the town centre. Pleasant decor, friendly staff and the food was tasty, hot, flavoursome and nicely presented. I would recommend a visit to this restaurant if you want decent Indian food 🍲🍛.

You can take your own alcohol and eat in or have a takeaway. The food is always freshly cooked, hot and very tasty. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

I highly recommend this restaurant. I've just received a delicious delivery from them, through 'uber eats'.! It wasn't swimming in oil; it was so fresh! Big chunks of lamb. Even the meat samosa was full of flavour. If there was one thing I'd like to be better, it would be the mint sauce. The delivery guy was so smiley & friendly too. Try Nishat for yourselves

Recently visited Nishat Spice and we were not disappointed, always consistently delicious food. All our chosen dishes were well presented, quality ingredients and very flavoursome, exactly as described on the menu. Staff are efficient and polite and we always enjoy our visits to this restaurant - would recommend you give it a try too, and don’t forget to bring your own alcohol!!

Best Indian food I've had in scarborough.

We moved to Scarborough at the end of 2021. We did the rounds and this is the one we keep coming back to. It's probably more of a take out/delivery but the tables are good and the service friendly. Really tasty, flavourful and (fabulously and unlike most local others) a bit of a chilli kick on a medium dish. Remember to bring your own alcohol but you wont be disappointed with the food you are served.

Absolutely awful. The man taking orders had a constant cough, he didn’t wash his hands at all. I ordered fish curry I’ve seen more fish on a fish finger than there was in the dish, in fact it was mainly skin. Would not go again

This is a small but very nice friendly restaurant. Good food and good service. I've eaten here twice, different stuff from the menu and both times I enjoyed the food.

The food was served on hot plates, a real plus for us as cold plates is a pet peeve. I ate all vegetarian and was very pleased it wasn’t just potatoes but a variety of different veg. The men both had a medium dish, just to gauge the spice level and both agreed they were very tasty. It’s an unlicensed restaurant, so we took our own beers but we were told about that fact at the time of ordering. The thing that really let the place down, was a total lack of atmosphere, with staff bordering on miserable. That said, it was a Wednesday evening. For us, we’d definitely get a takeaway but wouldn’t dine in.

There were issues... The problems started when we'd sat down and perused the menu and were ready to order. The front of house staff indicated for us to wait 2 minutes. The 2 minutes turned to fifteen minutes. Eventually he took our order and got it wrong. Three of our party of seven ordered the same curry, which was a chicken Pathia. He then insisted we'd ordered Madras and showed us our ticket as if to prove a point. All that illustrates is that he was not listening and wrote it down wrong. We wouldn't back back down and he then tried to tell us that Pathia and Madras we're almost the same dish. I'm a keen curry chef and told him they weren't even similar, I told him a Madras was a spicy dish and Pathia was a sweet and sour dish of a fairly hot nature that used Tamarind and lemon juice for its flavour. He apologised and wandered off and came back barely three minutes later with the three original dishes slightly altered to change their appearance and presented them again as if we were too ignorant to tell the difference. The next problem was hairs. Two of us had dishes with black hairs in them, it looked like a cat had been sat where they were stored. And then to cap it all off he mischarged us. Never, EVER again.

The best Indian restaurant in Scarborough in my opinion! Lovely food and generous portions! The banquet deal from Sunday-Wednesday is great value, but please check that it's still available if you're planning a visit

We have had takeaway deliveries from Nishat on several occasions and as far as we are concerned theirs are the best curries in Scarborough. I've just had a Chicken Sylheti Naga, a new flavour for me. It was terrific, hot and spicy and full of flavour. My wife enjoyed her Vegetable Rogan Josh just as much. A very recommendable restaurant!

Lovely food and was reasonably priced. Service was great as we were the only people there which worried us initially however following other reviews we thought we would give it a try and wasn’t disappointed Would go again

Very well eaten, friendly staff... The taste changes a little from the standards of Indians in France. And that is very pleasant!

We loved this little restaurant. The staff were friendly and the food superb. We had their Sunday banquet special. Starter platter, papadums, 2 mains 2 rice and naan all for just £28! They do soft drinks, but you can bring your own alcohol and they don’t even charge corkage. Highly recommended!

Went to Scarborough for a 5 day visit and we were recommended to try Nishat Spice Tandoori Restaurant for a takeaway and we was not disappointed, from telephoning our order through to having it delivered to our guest house was perfect and the food was absolutely amazing 👏 Thank you for your friendly service and the wonderful food. Having visited last year, we were on a break again nearby with friends so decided to call. Monday evening so quiet but staff seemed friendly and made us welcome. No alcohol served but they do allow you to bring your own if you wish but we all opted for soft drinks. Four of us ordered the special menu - poppadoms with dips, mixed starter platter, curry of choice, rice and naan bread. Very tasty and good quality. We were all impressed with our choice of curry. Very reasonably priced and will return

I have lived in scarborough for about 7 years and have been looking for a decent curry house but not managed to find one until now, being from Brighouse we are spoiled with all the great curry houses around us, we had a takeaway and I must say this is by far the best we have found in 7 years, well worth a try 👍👍👍👍

It’s remarkable that a restaurant with such little understanding about what is in their food is able to stay open in 2022. We didn’t even get passed a phone call because after a few questions the server hung up on us. They could not answer a single simple question and are extremely rude.

Ordered here this evening whilst on holiday. Glad I chose this place. Excellent tasting food and good portions. One of the best vindaloo's I've had in a long time! The wife enjoyed her rogan josh. Highly recommended and will go back before heading home.

Exceptional food, starters to main were fresh and full of authentic flavour. Keema bhuna as good as Bradford restruants.

Stayed nearby in a holiday home with friends, decided to go for a meal and came across this restaurant. Decided to go in even though no one else was in and we were the only people in all night. However, the service was very good and the food excellent. We had poppadoms and chutney, then a platter of bhaji and snacks. Followed by a curry of our choice, rice and naan bread. We were very impressed with the presentation and quality of the food. Highly recommend and will definitely return

Food was great - came quickly, everything was hot and tasty. Service was good. Ordered the Balti House Special with mixed vegetables which came with rice and naan bread for £10.00. Can take your own drinks which makes it very good value. Will definitely return.

Got a couple of decent curry's from here garlic chilli chicken and chicken rogan josh with rice chips and chapatis, good portion sizes too pretty much one of the better Indian takeaways in Scarborough

Went to Scarborough for a couple of days not knowing any good places for food. Came across this restaurant and ordered a takeaway hoping it would be great - we were not disappointed! From start to finish, service was professional and efficient. Food was tasty and very fairly priced. Would definitely recommend

This is the best curry house in Scarborough, or anywhere I’ve been for that matter. Good value especially on banquet nights (Sunday to Wednesday). I generally get takeaway delivered, which is always tasty and importantly hot. Highly recommended.

We had this restaurant recommended a few months ago but never got chance to try it before a COVID 19, so we took the opportunity to try tonight. We really enjoyed the food, I am a big onion Bhaji fan and they didn’t disappoint really light and tasty, my hubby had the prawn and spinach bhajis and again he enjoyed. For main I chose the chilli chicken and it was spicy but lots of really fresh tasting sauce. The garlic Nan was lovely and light, hubby had coconut rice and cauliflower side dish- again got a good review. The decor was good and the restaurant lovely and clean, all social distancing in place including contact and trace, would we go again definitely yes, thank you Nishat spice.

We booked on a whim as we were in Scarborough for a night and fancied a curry. We were not disappointed. The place itself is bog standard and a bit small plus just have a view if the main road but the food makes up for it.The bhajis were so light and naan bread was fluffy. The best curry we have had in a while. Would highly recommend

A long weekend in Scarborough and this was recommented by staff at Caton Bay, where we were staying. Only a small restaurant , but obviously a good take away. There were 8 of us and 2 children and everyone thoroughly enjoyed there meals. Beautiful tender chicken in good spices. Quiet pleasant staff and bring your own drink, so no extra charges to add to the bill. If this was nearer home would definitely become a customer.

Visited recently on a Wednesday night. It was an OK lamb bhuna. Tried it, won't have it again. What more can I say? Midweek chef?

We always get a takeaway from this restaurant nearly every Saturday night. They have got to know what we order over the years as it's exactly the same! Fantastic food, fantastic service. We highly recommend!

My partner and I went yesterday for a meal. All I can say is I’ve eaten lots of variations of Indian food from Kerala to Pakistani food. This place is excellent. Clean, delicious and great service. Constant flow of customers for eat inanf take away. Food 5* service the same! Keep up the great work ♥️

We were originally booked in to another local Indian restaurant which was similarly reviewed and a little closer to where we are staying. Then I checked the 'scores on the doors' and saw that it only rated a '2/5' so there was a quick change of plan! Nishat has a very creditable 5/5 and is visibly clean and tidy. Service and decor is good, the food is really very tasty and, since it is BYO, very reasonably priced. Highly recommended, we will certainly be returning.

My members visited Nishat Spice on Friday. The meal was excellent and service very good. We had booked a table for ten. I have had many meals at this restuarant.

Always very friendly and chatty staff, reasonably priced for enjoyable food, with the added advantage that you take your own alcohol, so you can drink good quality wine at super market prices, no corkage charges either.

Fancied an Indian meal whilst on a short break in Scalby. Decided to give Nishat Spice a try and so pleased we did. Food delivered within 50 minutes. Complementary popadoms and excellent starters, mains, rice and breads. Nice guy who delivered our food as well. Stands up to any good Indian restaurants in the Leeds / Bradford area where we reside.

Wow, why have I not been to this restaurant before? I visited on wednesday this week with 8 of my fabulous colleagues. Most of us had the special offer Banquet £22 for 2 people Sunday-Wednesday, what a bargain! Fabulous food, and recommendations from staff were spot on. I had garlic chilli chicken which was delicious. Can’t wait to return

As a party of ten we had another great visit to Nishat Spice. The staff are polite and helpful, the food very tasty with good portions. Added bonus you can bring your own alcohol but they do serve soft drinks.

Excellent meal and fantastic value

The deal we had was £11 a person for a poppadom with pickles etc, starter and a main with naan and rice. The food was excellent and also the service. Highly reccomended.

Normally always go to nishat spice and would always recommend to all friends, but after last night I can honestly say I will never return and it’s actually put me off Indian food! Me and my partner have both have food poisoning from this place, non stop sickness and just feeling dreadful. We both had the same dish and after a few hours both starting feeling the same!! Really would not recommend anybody to go!!!

Banquet meal £11 per person. (Was £10 but waiter explained increase due to increase in ingredient costs--still excellent value) Delicious food and they boxed up remaining food for us to take home. Have been a few times now. Took friends who have not been before and they are equally impressed. will definitely be going again. You can take your own alcohol with you as not licensed.

We ordered a set meal for two , to be delivered. The food that arrived was a dream! My chicken tikka masala was divine. I have been very reluctant to eat a curry for a long time due to a very bad experience - but this was beautiful and we will be visiting the restaurant itself VERY soon. Visited on Saturday night with family .We havent been for quite a few years and were surprised to see the dining area downstairs .The restaurant is small but felt more like a takeaway with tables .The place was lacking in atmosphere due to over bright lighting,a constant stream of people for takeaways and no music .On the plus side the meal and service were excellent .

Great take away. I have used this place previously and the food was lovely and very generous portion sizes. The vegetarian curry was lovely and others in the party ordered chicken currys which they thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely buy from here again

We eat here at least once a month and while we're eating we've noticed the take away service is also very popular. We go for the banquet available Sunday to Wednesday 2 people for £20 and take your own alcohol. Soft drinks can be purchased here. It's such good value.

Lovely little indian restaurant! Lovely cheery staff, very good food, nice atmosphere & you can take your own alcohol. Reasonable prices & clean toilets (upstairs). Nice little find.... We will certainly be back before long!
