Royal Parade Cafe in Scarborough

This fish and chip cafe has lovely views over the beach. It has a decent amount of internal and external seating and a good menu. The service was great. The chips were lovely and my Whitby Scampi was delicious. It was also really good value.

WOW, where to begin on the most wonderful experience. We contacted to chip shop as we were due to visit from Derbyshire with 25 residents from a care home and 15 staff. From the first conversation Zach couldn’t do enough and offered to open especially for us on the day. We pre-ordered and they even cater especially for a vegetarian with certain likes without hesitation. There was endless tea and coffee, bread and butter, sauces and sides, as well as a cheeky boozy tipple if you fancied it. The staff on the day were outstanding and were excited to host us and get the nice china out (there words). Everything was cooked fresh and the portion sizes were outstanding. I cannot fault this establishment at all. From beginning to end everything was cater for and we felt we’ll look after. It truly was the highlight of our day and meant so much to our residents and staff. MASSIVE MASSIVE THANK YOU

Menu had "Chip box £3.00" which I ordered. No extras, no sauces, just the £3 chip box. Woman on till said £3.50 please. I told her price list said £3.00 & she muttered yeah it's for the box I don't like charging it, but... But price list clearly said "Chip box £3" so I felt like I was being ripped off. Would have just walked out but I was buying for an elderly relative

This is the best fish we have ever had for years. In fact the best fish and chip shop I have been to. Highly recommended. The dog loved it too 😀

Extremely disappointing. Decided to visit due to location but went downhill from there. Boyfriend ordered and paid for our food including gravy and a hot chocolate. When we queried where the gravy we were told it was coming, then a waitress came out and said she hadn’t charged us for it. Boyfriend had to go back to the counter to fetch and pay for the gravy whilst his food got cold. On putting gravy on food realised it wasn’t gravy but curry sauce. Boyfriend went back to the counter to complain to be told it definitely was gravy when we had both tasted it and agreed it was curry sauce. Offered to refund my meal even though they were adamant it was gravy or to give me a new one but it would be the same gravy. Made to feel like we were lying about it being curry sauce but why would we? Staff very rude and unaccommodating. Didn’t offer to refund boyfriends meal as well so decided just to eat the food as it was with the curry sauce as no point just getting a refund for one meal and felt they would just put curry sauce on the new portion just to make a point. Clear they were not bothered about repeat business. Hot chocolate didn’t turn up either but couldn’t be bothered to complain after being told we hadn’t paid for the gravy as they hadn’t put it through the till and as we weren’t given a receipt we couldn’t prove it either way. Nearly £30 for a large fish and chip, and sausage chips and gravy and two soft drinks seems a lot. There were also issues with the people’s order before us. Staff didn’t seem to know or care what was going on. I would avoid at all costs as experience at that price ruined a nice day out.

Ludicrous that a cafe needs to close because the tills stop working! What is the world coming to! They have a notice showing “We accept cash” you don’t need a till to take cash or count it.

A distinct improvement on my visit six years ago. On the plus side: • The hot, fresh scampi and chips were delicious • Service is much friendly than previously On the minus side: • My sister's sandwich and our desserts (all industrial) were tasteless • £6 is far too expensive for a small bottle of bog-standard wine Basically you go here for the outside tables and the sea view. Without these, I can't imagine there'd be many customers at Royal Parade Café...

We visited 26/07/23. Family of 5. Fantastic fish and chips all freshly cooked to perfection. Nice outdoor seating area too. Well worth a visit.

Enquired about vegetarian options and was told by the very unfriendly and unpleasant owner that he was ‘a meat eater’ and not interested in changing anything to provide for vegetarians or vegans! !

Disgusting fish and chips, luke warm and very greasy. Also seems to be the most expensive place on the seafront. Service slow and staff unsure of what they were doing. One to give a miss.

Person in charge a nasty man no way he should be allowed to be around slagging his young staff off. He's supposed to be the trainer so if they are not the best then he has to take some responsibility for that. If it was my teen he was showing up to us all in the queue then I'm afraid they would not be gng bk. Bully springs to mind. 8.50 for a burger which not good dry and tasteless. Grandson enjoyed his fish and chips I must say that's why I gave a 1 star. Very overpriced it's a shame there's no competition down there he may buck his ideas up. Everything disorganised and quite hectic and he was blaming the staff for this.

Owner totally miserable dose not value staff or customers would not serve the breakfast any other way than on a roll (one of our party dose not eat bread). Your not told that its smoked bacon so if you don't like it lump it.

If I could give it 0 I would. The worst fish and chips I have ever had the misfortune of eating, with a free hair included. The fish was absolutely tasteless and chewy. The price is also extortionate.

Sunday 7th May. I had ordered my food and was then stood in line to receive said food when I was taken a back by what happened next. It was very busy and 2 young girls were serving the food to customers when a man who was obviously frying the fish opened one of the hatch doors to the warming area and shouted at these young girls! He shouted really loudly at them telling them not to break his fish and he is not joking he will get really annoyed if they do it again, you have been shown how to pick up fish without breaking it now do it properly. I was that taken a back I didn't say anything and I would like to apologise to those 2 girls. The action by that man was disgusting. There was no need to shout like that in front of several customers, it could of been handled in such a different way. On the food side of things, it was lovely, a tad expensive but nice.

Very over priced for what appeared to be rather mediocre food. The staff were very slow and unfriendly by just ignoring their customers! So I walked out after 10 minutes of not even a I’ll be with your shortly. I would therefore not recommend this place!

I have visited Filey for 40 years continually since my children were little. Over the years I have noticed this restaurant change hands. The service and provision have changed which has resulted in both good and bad experiences. 2 years ago I came and was highly disappointed with service and quality of food. Today we decided to give this place another try and were extremely delighted with the staff and service they provided. Every member of staff couldn’t do enough to help me with my order and offered extra help to assist me with taking my order out to my family. I would just like to say a massive Thank You to you all. You are amazing. Ps the food was brilliant too!

We came on Boxing Day and the place was busy but we got a seat outside and the food was very good. The fish and chips was very nice and probably the best we have had in FIley to date.

Fantastic food. Brilliant service. Ate outside on a beautiful day. Would not eat inside as dogs allowed. This totally puts me and my friends off eating inside with owners feeding their pets om the floor.

Nice large cafe at the quieter end of Filey beach, always good to have a brew before going down to the beach, or when returning from the beach. Nice friendly staff and plenty of room to feel safe. Enjoy

Firstly you cannot order a burger and chips combo - disappointing! Which increases the price as if you want those items together it is individually priced. Second the burger is just bread and beef... no tomatoes, lettuce or any sort of garnish for a whopping...

Well for my wifes birthday evining we decided to go for a late afternoon walk and then have some fish and chips with the kids at the seafront. Perfect plan and the Royal Parade was at the right location and time for us so we stopped there for dinner.I go in to order and as expected I am asked to sanitise my hands (good to know they are enforcing this). But they only let me in. My wife is now conveying the order from the front door to me at the counter. The person taking the order wasn't rude but also seemed not interested, I guess it was the end of the day and they were tired, no issues.Eventually the food came out, it has a conveyor belt feeling to it, same as when you are at a McDonalds, this is not a dig, but I expected a more engaging experience. Now, the food. The fish potions are HUGE! but you would expect this with the price. The fish was freshly fried for us and had great flavour and texture. The scampy I had was ok, not the best, but not the worst either, a little bit of a letdown for the price. But the battered sausage my youngest had was not edible to him, either it was overcooked or left standing too long, it was chewy and hard to cut. The chips unfortunately were not fresh in any of our boxes. All in all a very mediocre experience, but dragged further down because of the price. Such a fantastic location, small fixes can make this place better. But at the moment you are charging premium for mediocre/poor food and service (fish being the exception)

Was eating my dinner when an old guy, 60ish came in. He wasnt wearing a mask. The lad behind the counter shouted over to the owner this guys not wearing a mask. The old man said he was exempt. He demanded that he see his exemption card. The old guy showed him it and he still refused to serve him. The owner came out from behind the counter and started pushing the old guy around. Absoloutley disgusting. The old guy was clearly shook up and left, with his wife waiting outside with her dogs not knowing what had gone on. Just awful. AVOID THIS DISCRIMINATORY FISH SHOP AT ALL COSTS!

We had a lovely walk into Filey this morning and really fancied some chips to enjoy by the sea. We immediately found this fish and chip shop and it looked nice from the outside with plenty of seating and benches overlooking the sea. First thing to mention is it felt Covid secure and well set up. My husband ordered a large portion of chips and a curry sauce. The staff were very polite and said they didn't serve chips until 11am however they asked the chef and he very happily said put the order through and he got the chips on early for us. Chips were cooked quickly and were tasty and very fresh. We were just a little disappointed by the portion size which basically comes in a small box that looks like a child's meal box (that's the only size you can order). Maybe I'm greedy but we do like a good portion of chips to share between us and we didn't really have much to share out.

Painful experience and worst coffee I’ve had in a long time. Took an age despite only a few customers. Demanded cash despite signs suggesting cashless was preferred. Served a cheap tasting coffee passed off as a flat white. Only positive I saw was they had good social distancing measures in place.

Sat outside in the glorious sun next to the Sea. Bliss! The covid measures in place were very good with very polite, friendly Staff. Twice with curry sauce bang on. Very nice! Will use again. Thank You.

Had the best fish and chips we as a family have had in a long time, clean boxes all round. Staff and manager very helpful and friendly. CoVID guidelines followed to a good standard. Seating area outside kept very clean in between people sitting to eat. A very pleasant visit. Will definitely be visiting again

We decided not to get takeout from here due to the amount of rubbish overflowing from nearby bins and rubbish under nearby seating. This restaurant needs to take responsibility for the rubbish generated by their business. Using cardboard boxes for their fish and chips to be served in only adds to the piles of rubbish and overflowing bins. They would be far better going back to old fashioned paper to wrap their takeouts in. Due to the amount of rubbish seagulls are attracted easily.

Our fish and chips were decent sized portions very freshly cooked. The cafe is currently only doing takeaways but there are outdoor large wooden, well spaced tables to sit at with super views over Filey Bay if you can sit that way round. The whole set up felt very COVID safe, one way system in place, menu posted on window outside, employee on door to answer questions and monitor customer flow, ALL staff wearing masks all the time when we were there. Sanitiser available. No dive bombing seagulls!

£17.50 for x2 fish n chips and a tub of curry sauce dont get me wrong it was nice but the size of the fish was a joke you only got about a quarter of it and not many chips, think I'll use the other at the top from now much better and cheaper

I have seen the negative review left on the 26th of June. I was in the queue and clearly saw the reviewer march past everyone queueing and social distancing. When approached by the manager and asked to sanitize his hands before going any further, the reviewer turn nasty and started swearing! They were absolutely out of order especially with young children present! Fantastic cafe with great fish and chips that I’ve been using for years and always had a pleasant visit!

Had a great time in Filey Filey today rounded off by the best fish&chips we have eaten in a long time from The Royal Parade Cafe.All social distancing was observed as was were the hygiene regulations,but the best thing by far was the quality of both the Fish&Chips,we both had a mug of tea each to round it all off.We will certainly visit again,a place like this deserves to do well.Thankyou so much.Les Winter.

Came here after walking on the beach from Reighton to Filey on a nice sunny day last September, We came here and ordered Fish and Chips we waited a while for them, Staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there but on the plus side our Fish and Chips were a bit expensive but worth paying for as they were nice and we ate them outside on the picnic benches lovely view of the sea, Will be coming back

Thought the staff were a bit rude, didn't allow me to explain I was waiting for friends so could I leave a card behind the counter while we have drinks and wait for the other two to arrive. Prompt answer was no cash r 5 pound mim on card. When we went to order the food I was told they were not serving fish dishes uhh, seafront restaurant! also I felt they were over priced and the atmosphere was terrible x

I live less than a couple of miles away yet this is the first time I have been in !!Walking the dog on a bitterly cold Boxing Day and popped in to warm up with a hot chocolate (or 4). Service was quick, prices reasonable and cafe was fairly busy - the staff were very friendly. Tables had crackers on them and because we brought the dog they even had a few free treats on one side for her also. Not sure if this is a Christmas thing or not (if staff read this please comment).Although we only went in for drinks, the fish & chips did look good.I will definitely be back especially if the dog gets treats also ;)

This is a lovely position 4 people on the beach or visiting Filey the fish and chips were so succulent you can sit in in or out and admire the wonderful view well worth trying

Wanted a child’s fish and chips but we’re told we could only order a child’s fish and chips if we eat inside (we were eating on the tables outside). We were going to eat inside but our boxer is excitable and so wanted to sit away from other dogs. The lady said the left side of the restaurant was closed, so we couldn’t sit inside and be away from other dogs. Fish and chips were decent but grossly over priced for quality and portion size.

This place is by far the best quality fish and chips in Filey. Been there many times and it's always been top quality food and a great cup of tea.

On holiday for a week in filey , down the sea front and decided to come here for a change, (we normally go to the one in the town) average at best , the staff were great , but its expenses ! £33 for 2 adults and a 4 year old , it's not worth it go elsewhere.

Went in for lunch to warm up two had baked jacket,s but said they were,nt very nice with the cheese.i had sausages & chips & curry sauce.was ok.had better,had a dog near us that growled & barked at any dog outside & went mental when some came into the restaurant which got annoying when your sat near it.

Popped in on Christmas Eve morning for a late breakfast/early lunch. Reasonably priced with good value for money. Excellent customer service, the staff members were able to help us with a request no fuss 👍

Me and my husband went to the takeaway of this cafe on Sunday the 7th of October 2018. My husband got a portion of fish and chips and I got a chip butty and a couple of bottles of pop. This came to over 13 pound. The first thing I noticed was the scrap like chips dotted with black spots all through, they were hard and sharp and disgusting. My husband found a few horrible looking chips,they looked like they were coated in cold lard. When he saw that he refused to eat anymore.

A wonderfully traditional cafe. Don’t come here for sophisticated recipes or fine dining. They serve excellent coffee and old-fashioned favourites: ham sandwiches, baked potatoes and salads as well as straightforward fish and chips. The milk shakes are delicious. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Really good value. All this and stunning views over the bay to Filey Brigg and cliffs to the south.

£33 for fish & chips, (frozen scampi) & chips, a hot dog (frozen catering sausage) and chicken nuggets. The tight fisted staff member wouldn’t even give me a sachet of ketchup for the hotdog, so I refused to pay for it. It’s the least they could of done to give us free sauces . Avoid this place.

Wish I had read the reviews before I handed over my money. £32.40 for 2 adult meals & 2 kids meals. After biting my tongue, I asked for ketchup for my daughters hotdog. He said that would be another 20p. I told him it was ridiculous as you'd expect ketchup when you've just paid for an hotdog. Staff just said I don't make the rules. Food was below average & my daughter left her so called hotdog as the cheap frozen bread was hard & dry. £32.40 down the drain & kids still hungry :( Fruitshoots were OK though

Never ever left a bad review for anywhere but felt people really need warning about this place!! Rude moody staff! Majorly Overpriced for cold rubbish undercooked food! No option for children’s/small fish on takeaway side, Cost me £26 for 3 fish & chips, the fish was watery & under cooked with soggy sloppy batter!! The chips were very few and the peas were clap cold! All served by 3 staff bickering & arguing with each other! The lady on the till was shocking, The look I got when I asked for a drink was hurrendous, how dare I expect her to walk to the fridge ☹️

Have visited Royal Parade Cafe a few times and always had good service but the last time we visited the staff weren't overly interested in serving us. They were more interested in chatting to each other. It's a shame. Management do something about this.

Manager was a disgrace f ing and blinding at my partner who was on her own waiting for her order she was just playing on her phone and he started ranting about” is she on trip advisor” ! Then became nasty. Two young members of staff apologised for his behaviour he just went out back. Avoid this place at all costs is a joke !

Called in after a day in filey with the kids.Only 2 staff serving..bickering with each other over whether or not you need greaseproof paper in the boxes. People queing out if the door. Orders getting muddled. Rude member of staff ..young lad shouting at people to move! Fish n chips really nice.Portion size quite good.Prices ridiculous.Nearly 45 pound for fish n chips. Need to get better organised and some staff members need a lesson in customer services.If you hate the job and are rude to people you're in the wrong job...leave and do something else.

Very poor for the price, over priced for quality. Coffee very week, no taste. Give it a miss. Jacket potatoes looked like they were cooked few day ago, proper toasty, not just toast with cheese inside them. Called in today, 3/8/18. Staff member in the takeaway was very slow, looked totally cheesed off & just gave the impression that he didn’t want to be there.

Pleasant looking cafe in an enviable position close to the beach but that was about as good as it got. Appalling service at the table inside by a young , ignorant and totally disinterested girl. My wife asked for a Coke whereupon the bottle was plonked down on the table unopened. No glass or straw. No serviettes unless asked for one. Sandwich consisted of two slices from a cheap sliced loaf. Table not very clean. When the moronic waitress asked if everything was OK we tried to explain but it was clearly obvious she had no interest whatsoever. Thankfully we will never have to go there again.

Called in with my family for our dinner. We had to queue for a while but was well worth it. The food is freshly cooked to order and served piping hot. The quality of food was first class and had good portion size. Pricing is ok and average for coastal resorts. Only down side was that there were only two young girls serving and they were run off there feet. However they always had a smile on there face and were a credit to the cafe owner.

Called in today at 11:30 wanting a proper meal not sandwich’s. Stop serving breakfast at 11 and don’t serve lunch until 12. So walked out when found out .

Called today for lunch, people at the next table had a dog that made a mess (sick or did the business). Another customer brought this to their attention and the lady cleaned it up, then told staff who gave her a bucket and mop with loads of disinfectant and she mopped the floor. Not a pleasant smell whilst eating lunch. Needless to say we left our lunch and we won’t be going back in again unless they change their dogs allowed policy

Sat down and within just one minute a girl came to serve us saying, "Do you know what you want yet?".

We stopped here for fish and chips during our day in Filey. The fish was cooked fresh and tasted fresh, the chips were good and so were the mushy peas. Lots of seating outside, could do with a few more bins but there are plenty on the promenade. All in all very good

Nice friendly staff. Make a nice cuppa. My hubby had a sausage egg and bacon cob, I had an egg cob. Both were delicious. Lovely view. What's not to like.

In our eagerness to get to the beach on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday, we left the house without breakfast. After parking up at West Avenue, we arrived on the beach front to see that the tide was still in and we could not go straight on the beach. We opted to relax and have a drink and bacon sandwich before walking down to Cobble Landing. Our order was taken at the till and we sat outside to enjoy the table. Even though we were told to come back to get our order, it was brought out to our table. Good sized breadcake, with plenty of bacon and a perfectly cooked hash brown on the side. Only disappointment was the amount of milk in the tea. But that is just minor issue, as will know next time to ask to add just a splash!

Beautiful food and brilliant portion size. Amazing sea view, friendly, polite staff and wonderful owner. The Royal Parade is very pet friendly which catered to our family as we came to the beach for a day out with the dogs. I couldn't fault the service - food came out fast, hot and tasty! Definately reccomended!!!

I really can't believe all the bad reviews i have read about the Royal parade all i can say is try it because there is no better view while eating your beautifully freshly cooked Fish and Chips in the whole of Filey. The view really is astounding and i suppose that is what you are paying for, i come to Filey quite a lot and always eat at the Royal Parade and have found the owner Steve to be very amiable and accomodating for both me and my dog seeing as there is always a bowl of water outside for passing dogs mine included.

There is little to commend this cafe/restaurant. Its just ordinary! It was a welcome point for a lunch after a walk on the beach. Food was OK, Staff OK although the waitress was switched on. They allow dogs too but that's no recommendation if they yap throughout our stay.

Visited late morning after a long walk on the beach in the wind and rain and ordered haddock and chips. First customers of the day for hot food and it was a slow start and the food came in cardboard boxes before which I had a very good coffee served on a cardboard insulated cup. The food was a revelation. Fresh cooked haddock in a beautiful light batter and fresh home made chips. Fabulous, not cheap, but good value. Worth the 130 mile round trip. Great view of the sea is included in the price. Try it.

We were really hungry and normally would give such places a wide berth, however we are glad we didn't. Baked potato came with cheese and coleslaw and salad, no there wasn't much cheese but for the price I didn't expect it. The tea and coffee were good. And the staff were lovely, friendly and answered our questions. We even got a free sausage for the dogs which they loved. For the money it was excellent, it wasnt haute cuisine but we weren't expecting that.and it was lovely to sit in sunshine on an October day.

I visited yesterday I had a delicious toasted sandwich with a generous side salad and delicious home made coleslaw , the staff were very professional and polite providing a quick and efficient service , the sea views are just beautiful I would highly recommend

I visited this restaurant today and nearly turned back out after i seen the prices on the menu the owner should be locked up in jail for daylight robbery.. ill be going back tomorrow for me eyes back, the food tastes as cheap as heron.. the staff look like they are doing to much could call it slave labour. Only thing good about the place was the helpful counter staff

We visited the cafe today, food was ok. Could be better presented and more taste. But bland and undesirable. Staff were ok looked exhausted. Manager or owner on the other hand, Steve? If he isn't the manager someone needs to report him to the manager. I have never heard such disrespect spoken to the work girls. One of the girls looked like they were off to break down. He shouted and spoke to them like they were nothing. I hate men who think they can speak to other people like that. Avoid if you can. If not give the girls a smile and a tip for putting up with such a horrible man. They must need the money as I would of left before now.

Service (at the counter) was unfriendly, not to say hostile. The server was reluctant (or maybe simply unable) to explain the difference between different coffees.

Freshly Cooked Food , Good Table Service by 2 Very Pleasant Friendly Young Ladies , well worth a Visit , and A Sea View whilst dining !

Walked from The Bay on Friday, stopped by for a coffee, I enjoyed a mocha and my friend had a latte, these were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, clean welcoming and comfortable seating, will be returning!

The food was very nice, sevice was good had to wait a little while for food but when it is cooked fresh you expect that. Would recommend this cafe.

Just got a snack at lunchtime here. Staff were quick and polite. Food was decent and there was a good sea view.

If you want tasty fish and chips with a fantastic view this is the place to be. Over looking Filey bay just a short walk from primrose valley. The food is made to order so there is a short wait but it's tasty and the proportions are good

We went in today for some chips on a day visit to Filey. Went through the main door but was told that for chips we had to go next door. An outside fence has been put up inside, so we had to go outside, around and back in. Went in. Ordered food. No full menu displayed - e.g. no children's menu, but if you ask, they tell you a large menu. Asked for a drink with it, was told to go next door (pay separately, going outside, back in, queue, pay...) It got even more confusing when I asked to pay by card and the card machine was next door...she went to get it. I therefore paid on the same card, through the same card machine, but queued twice. Confusing.

The fish was amazingly good, very tasty. Could have done with few more chips. There was 5 of us so it came to over £32 but we all enjoyed it.

Located right on the sea front to catch beach trade it is very handy. The coffees and teas were fine, the cakes less enjoyable. A large inside space and with tables outside. Let down by scruffy looking staff. With a few tweaks this place could be real gold mine!
