Interesting place! I’d say it was ok, we couldn’t get in anywhere and this was a last resort. Very general pub food, dull children’s menu, the usual poor choice that kids get. I asked if my Daughter could have a small portion of scampi and chips or small prawn pasta but they said no the kitchen wouldn’t do that. So she had soggy fish fingers and chips 😖 wouldn’t return in a hurry.

A warm welcome made a great start to our 2 night visit that carried on throughout our stay. They went over and above to make our ‘surprise’ visit and birthday meal for friends. We chose to update our room (2) what lovely room light and bright, large room and excellent bathroom. We had lunch and evening meal on our first day. Breakfast was a good choice of hot and cold choices.Food was very good. It’s a busy friendly locals pub with a gorgeous garden. We wouldn’t hesitate to rebook this gem.

Having been on holiday in Cornwall for the week we added on an extra bonus night in Lostwithiel and didn’t original plan on dining out but with the restaurant in the hotel being closed we were recommended this little gem and so glad we were. This isn’t just your bog standard pub grub! The menu variety was so plentiful we struggled to pick and changed our mind several times which definitely isn’t a bad thing on this occasion. I opted for chicken fajitas and hubby had the lasagne then both had chocolate fudge cake for dessert and it was absolutely delicious and hands down the best meal of the whole trip and we’d dined in some fancy places which just goes to show price doesn’t mean anything. The staff were super attentive and friendly and the pub itself is charming with character and a nice warm homely vibe. We loved it and will return should we be back that way in the future!

Outside kerb appeal a little lacking but don't be put off. This is a great base to stay for local attractions like Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and pretty harbourside towns.. Staff are friendly and welcoming, breakfast and restaurant food are good and you are within walking distance of other eating options.. Interior is comfortable and bedrooms nicely finished with modern bathrooms. Overall good value for money and would recommend.

Recently stayed in a property very close to The Royal Oak. We visited several times with our two little dogs who were made to feel as welcome as we were. Also visited without them and ate in the restaurant for both a main meal and a cream tea. Food was really lovely, and staff very friendly. Also popped over for an evening with a live singer. Pub was full of locals, who were all very welcoming and having a wonderful time! Singer was great, atmosphere was fabulous and we would love to come back again. Really great pub!

Booked a table for 2 humans for the Sunday roast, accompanied by 2 dogs. They were very welcoming and sat us in a comfortable corner, we were very happy with this as one of our dogs has a desire to say hello to everyone, being out of the way helped her, and us, to relax. There was a choice of 3 meats, turkey, pork or beef. My husband had the pork and I had the beef. We were not disappointed, not only was there plenty to eat, it was all cooked to perfection, I can’t abide soggy veg, the cauliflower cheese was amazing! Another of my quirks is I like my food to be hot and this didn’t disappoint, everything was piping hot. Although they were busy, we didn’t feel rushed and were given time after our main course to settle before we decided on dessert. We had the apple crumble and the sticky toffee sponge both with custard. Apart from my personal preference would have been for a thicker custard, the desserts didn’t disappoint either. My sticky toffee sponge was light and fluffy, not at all stodgy, perfect after a big meal. After enjoying a fabulous meal, we were pleasantly surprised by the bill, extremely good value for money. Thank you to all the staff at The Royal Oak for making our visit so very enjoyable and for welcoming our furry friends too.

Added bonus of parking and only just off the main road, if you are on your way to Fowey or St Austell. Far from the ‘sticky table’ pub I thought it might be. Booked for 4 of us on a Friday evening, for the festive menu. Once seated we were told we needed to have ordered ahead of time for the festive menu ??? I wasn’t told this, so I questioned it. The response was “it must have been one of our new staff taking the booking, who didn’t know……..were they not trained ? We reluctantly chose from the normal menu. Nice starter, but when the main courses arrived, two of us had a very large portion of steak pie with chips & veg. The pie turned out to be dry, luke warm and most unappetising. We’d been asked just minutes after our food arrived, if everything was alright….at that point our assumption was that it would be ok. What I thought was a nice touch, was the individual jug of gravy served with the dish, but oh dear !!!! it wasn’t even proper gravy. It tasted of bovril and had never been near natural meat juices. Not pleasant poured over your food. When we complained, to their credit, they removed the cost from our bill, but it doesn’t make for a good night out. It’s such a shame, I’ve enjoyed good food here in the past, and recommended it to friends. If I’d known the standards had dropped so low I would never have planned a pre Christmas get together here. I won’t be back until they start to send out genuinely homemade food and proper gravy.

We stayed here October 2021 for 2 nights whilst visiting for my cousins wedding nearby, when we arrived the staff were so lovely and really made us feel welcome. Our first nights stay we were a bit tired from driving down from Gloucestershire so decided to have an early night around 9pm, we knew there would be a bit of noise being a pub but thought as it’s very rural it might be quiet by 11pm, however it went on until about 12:45am and our window (room 1) was directly above the beer garden so it was so noisy with people swearing and being rude etc. It did go a bit quiet but all through the night there was a man wandering around trying to find his room as he’d lost his key so he was knocking on doors, I checked the times and one was at 1am and another at 4am!!! Luckily a lady from another room came out and shouted at him so he stopped then. We were so tired from broken sleep but in the morning the breakfast was really very good, a mix of cooked and continental, so we have about 5 different things. Apparently other people had mentioned the disturbance in the night so they apologised for that. The room was nice with a comfy bed, ok shower and lots of lighting and mirrors, the WiFi was also good. Our second nights stay was better as we were back later from the wedding so no pub noise and no night wanderers so slept great. Again the breakfast in the morning was fantastic and the staff were really helpful with payment and making sure everything was ok. Don’t think we will stay again as we like the quiet but if you want a bit of pub life on your visit then it’s perfect.

We recently visited this place whilst on holiday. When we arrived we were met by a man exiting with a pint in his hand going outside. Nothing unusual about that you might think, only to realise that this guy actually worked here. Not once did he acknowledge us or offer to take us to our table. He looked very disheveled and what you would expect as a member of staff of a venue serving food.Ah the food.We ordered the sharing Cornish brie. This came to us spooned in a dessert bowl it had been melted in the oven. we were given 1 small piece of bread each, and no other things to dip into this cheese bowl. Needless to say most of the cheese was left, a bit of celery maybe..I will say that the steak i ordered was cooked very well although everything that came with it was poor. This place quite rightly caters for locals but as has been mentioned before if tourists are not made to feel welcome then they will not visit.A little staff training on house management would help.

We ended up not eating here as could not get through on the phone after calling a few times. Thought we would pop in and try our luck. Abruptly told by barman fully booked so had to leave. Did not appreciate being looked up and down by the locals as I passed. Very uncomfortable feeling.

Attended this beautiful Cornish pub for lunch and a drink with friends and what a gem of a find it was. We all had local ale and lager to drink after the best knowledge and recommendations from the staff which all went down so well we had a second. Lunch was great food that arrived quick yet fresh and well presented. Great atmosphere and welcoming locals. Will most certainly visit again very soon. 5 stars.

Great family pub owned by Haven. Stunning sea views looking over to St Ives. Huge carpark which is pay and display and free if you are staying in the caravan site. Huge beer garden with lots of seating loads to choose from on the menu and kids eat for only £1 off the kids menu. Sport is regularly played so attracts a diverse amount of people unfortunately this place is closed during the winter inline with the caravan site opening dates. Carpark is still available to use throughout the year.

Got a lovely hot cheese and onion pasty for my lunch. Used my rewards APP. I've also brought a few bacon & cheese turnovers over the past few weeks - cooked perfectly. Lovely friendly staff, lady and Man have served me on several different occasions.

Food was luke warm. No Christmas atmosphere, surprisingly enough , is the Christmas period. But staff were warm and friendly.
