I ordered Calves Liver at the bar plus potato and spinach. I didn't realise that vergetables are charged extra so I paid 19.2 for the liver plus 9.0 for the vegetables, a total of 28.2. Whilst it was well cooked this is far too expensive for a bar meal where I had to get up and order drinks etc. Whilst a careful examination of the menu does make this clear I think it was very misleading

Three of us called here for lunch on a quiet Saturday following the royal succession. There had been no problem booking a table to accommodate our dog, but we decided to sit outside anyway. Service was always prompt (though we were the only diners for much of the time, having arrived at noon), cheerful and knowledgeable. We shared some warm bread with balsamic vinegar, which was generous for all even though charged for one. Straight to main courses, which were excellent all round: Dover Sole (a daily special), meaty in a meunière sauce; chicken with super mushrooms and sauce, and lashings of seafood linguine. The sole came with vegetables (quite sufficient to share between two), and we ordered a round of roast potatoes which also quite sufficed for two. Two of us followed with rum chocolate mousse and blueberries crème brulee which were both much enjoyed. Prices are perhaps a tad on the high side when taken with side orders, but the quality was excellent all round and the servings generous — we'll certainly go again. And the country sounds? There was the gardener tending the pub garden, the church yard being mown, the squeaky wheelbarrow being taken down the street (and our dog's response to it), and the owner's parrot. All an absolute delight on an early autumn afternoon. Recommended.

This was our first visit, as new to the area. but we will definitely return. From the minute we arrived we were met by a very friendly barman who immediately made us feel welcome. Great selection of drinks and cocktails. The menu has a lot of choice which all sounded very tempting. One of us had the octopus, which was better than we recently had in Portugal, one had the cod and chips which was very fresh and beautiful white fish and I had the calves liver. The liver was well cooked and delicious, so much of it I took some home. The rosemary potatoes and fresh vegetables finished of the meal. No room for dessert unfortunately. Can't recommend The Royal Oak highly enough. Oh and they loved our staffie and gave him many treats.

An amazing meal, with superb service. After 25 years in France I have to say this was way better than anything we've had for a long time. Since we're moving into the village in the coming weeks, we're looking forward to many a future visit. Great food, served well and quickly with an excellent global wine list, some superb Portuguese wines and a very good selection of draught beers. Would recommend a visit, and it's ideally situated for anyone looking for a good meal after a day's gliding.

We had arrived in Lasham for a short stay and felt confident in choosing to eat at the The Royal Oak after reading recent Trip Advisor reviews; we were highly disappointed when our experience did not match those. It was a Saturday early evening and perhaps the chef had rung in sick...? Or he did not feel up to providing a decent quality meal of the less gourmet offerings on the menu, who knows? We were looking for meals of the well-executed but plain fare variety and chose the beef burger and Toulouse sausages. I was bluntly informed that the beef burger came only with chips. Even then I would expect a garnish of salad - there wasn't one. My husband asked what came with the sausages and was offered saute potatoes, salad or vegetables; he chose saute potatoes and vegetables. He received the first two accompanied by green salad. Perhaps this should not have surprised us as there were no vegetable sides offered on the menu or indeed any mention of accompanying vegetables for most of the mains. Vegetables seemed to be conspicuous by their absence which was why we asked when ordering. My beef burger could best be described as average with a generous portion of chips. My husband's meal was poor: the saute potatoes were leathery and looked as though they had been sitting around for hours, maybe reheated. He hates to make a fuss so did not send them back to the kitchen as he should have done, although I did mention it to the waiter when we were paying the bill. The only really acceptable part of the meal was the generous portion of olives that we ordered whilst waiting for the mains to arrive.Maybe more care is taken for the high ticket items on the menu but that is not an acceptable approach; all food should be of the same high standard. By the way the Toulouse sausages (3) come at a hefty £16.95 (might have been £16.75) so a lot to pay for such a poor offering.I am sure there must be restaurants that offer better food at these sort of prices and I recommend that you choose one of those.

Our first time at The Royal Oak since it became a Mediterranean influenced, self-styled gastropub and it won’t be the last. A relatively small menu with brief descriptions of the food augured well and we weren’t disappointed. The tempura battered spiralised zucchini as a shared appetiser was a surprise. We all had the prawn and squid starter, two of us chose haddock chips as a main with the others having seafood linguine and roasted octopus with olives and creamy lemon mash. Everything was superb as were the profiteroles and sorbets. The wine listed has some very reasonable offerings with an interesting Portuguese list.Service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere welcoming. Our bill for 4 was £170, including a 10% entirely voluntary tip but we didn’t have coffee. My only complaint was a £3.50 charge for a small basket of bread!!

Due to driving only one of the party was drinking but he was very complimentary about his choice of beer. We had mains and desserts and weren't disappointed by any of our choices. The ladies had the Tuscan sausage, my son the haddock and chips and I had the steak. All good choices in their own right and the vegetables and salad which we ordered as sides were excellent. The desserts were equally good and overall the food was top notch. While the pub is a bit isolated it is well worth the trip.We will be returning.

The garden 'huts' are very lovely, but only available if there are a minimum of 4/5 of you, otherwise you are encouraged to sit elsewhere. The bread starter is lovely, we had to ask for separate balsamic vinegar to go with the oil as there was on a dribble of vinegar in the bottom of the oil, this was provided without complaint. We also really enjoyed the Zucchini Fritti with Aioli and Mint, really tasty! I'd definitely recommend them. I had the 'Tuscany Sausages' for my main course with sautéed potatoes. The sausages were very meaty and seemed to be very good quality, but were quite salty. The potatoes were very large and well cooked, but a little dry and it was served with a dry side salad. The elements were individually nice, but it was dry and lacking cohesion and at £16.95 is expensive. I have previously had the Carbonara, again very well cooked with good quality ingredients, but quite salty and I thought that £14.95 was also a little on the expensive side.I had Profiteroles for desert, the pastry was crispy rather than soft, the cream inside was still frozen and the dark chocolate tasted like cheap cooking chocolate, whereas for £6.50 I would have expected more. I have also previously had the Vanilla Pannacotta, it was 'nice' but was lacking vanilla flavour and quite bland. I have also shared the Lime cheesecake, which was very lovely! Nice zesty flavour. Overall, the service has been very friendly and helpful, there are a few dishes I can recommend but I've generally found the food (and the price I've paid) to have been disappointing.

We went to this restaurant after hearing some good reviews on another local Social Media platform. Unfortunately we came away very unimpressed. Our £10.95 Mixed Charcuterie starter comprised 3 pieces of deep fried bread with a selection of cold meats the largest of which was something that resembled garlicky spam. For her main, my wife ordered he salmon with asparagus and a sauce. It was served exactly as that. No sign of a new potato or any other form of carbohydrate anywhere! She wasn't even asked if she would want any additional vegetables. I opted for the burger as a main course, which again was uninspiring. Not once were we asked if we had enjoyed the meal throughout our time at the pub. They then produced the bill which overcharged us for drinks! They really do need to up their game if they want to make a success of things especially when you consider that there are plenty of better (and cheaper) restaurants in the area. We won't he going back anytime soon.

This used to be our favourite restaurant but after a recent experience under the new management, we will not be returning. From start to finish it was really disappointing. Several cheerful but poorly trained staff took ages to take our drinks order, our food order and to show understanding of the food being offered. The drinks, when they arrived, were spilt, partly over my wife. The 'large English chips' were so such thing - they were skinny chips which we specifically asked not to have. We were promised that the prawns would be shelled, but they were not. Eventually, three shelled prawns were placed on a plate at a cost of £8.95. The squid was overcooked. Three small Tuscany sausages looked rather lost on the plate at a cost of £16.95. At least my salmon was moist.

The garden is large and beautiful, tables spread out so everyone has lots of space, with beautiful flowers growing all around. All the staff were so lovely and kind. The food was the best part of it all. Firstly, what a selection, such variety from your pub classics, which tasted soooo good we couldn’t believe it, to innovative dishes and tastes that you'd find in a fancy London restaurant. Secondly, the presentation, portion size and speed of the food and service was very impressive. My fish and chips was just the best I’ve ever had! Delicious batter and gorgeous, thin chips! Everything was definitely great value for money. Finally the atmosphere of the place was just perfect, from the quirky things hanging on the walls to the handmade tables and eclectic chairs. What a brilliant place to go for a lunch. Lunch for three and a half was almost £100, with only one alcoholic drink involved. It's very expensive for what it is. Lovely decor, but tables FAR too close together and staff were not observing any kind of distancing, nor were they wearing PPE or visors as in other pubs. Arrived spot on our time of 12:30, but no food was served until twenty past one. We had to chase up for the bread and olives. Other tables also seemed to wait a long time. Three pounds fifty for five pieces of bread and another three eventy five for a tiny bowl of olives. as well £4.50 for a large tonic water!Minimal vegetarian selection, no vegan at all. Lovely calamari, albeit a tiny portion for £6 and a decent Scotch egg, but basic pub sandwiches disappointing with thin pre packed chips. An average burger, and a supposedly confit duck leg which was dry and tough with tastless unseasoned polenta, almost inedible for £15. Ice cream was great, but they buy that in. The older male member of staff is grumpy and told off one of our party because her chair had rucked up the rug. Not to be recommended and won't be visting again.

We arrived at 11.55am today 22/8, apologised for being early as we entered into the garden. We sat quietly for a while. A gentlemen ignored us didn't really care. Ordered fish and chips. Fish was delicious, great batter. Cheap skinny chips. We fancied dessert for a change. WHAT A RIP OFF. Fancy description on menu. Fir £6.50 you get an inch of cake, a teaspoon of ice cream and a teaspoon of cream. ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT. VERY STINGY. Apparently it's rich in flavour but there's so little of it, you cannot taste the "richness". Mentioned this to said man who clearly didn't care. Walk in, non-locals aren't treated the same way as locals. That's obvious. We should have stopped at the fish. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip as it wasn't earned.Lovely garden in a quiet location though.

Been here a few times, each and every time we are welcomed and greeted with a smile. Food is fresh and well thought out with gluten free options. Decor is perfect and suits its location. Wonderful touches such as slippers for muddy boot wearers, gentle hand soap and lotions in the bathrooms. Outdoor areas well thought through with heated lamps and dog friendly. Only downside we aren't close enough to walk here.

We regularly eat at the Royal Oak as it’s the only local restaurant that we’ve found where the quality is consistently good so we know when taking family or friends that we won’t be disappointed. The menu changes daily and includes some lovely seasonal touches. I had the tandoori salmon and quizzed the chef on how to make it at home it was so succulent! The scotch egg is to die for - always on the right side of warm and a bit oozy. We love the sharing Camembert and the homemade desserts like the different flavour Eton mess. I wasn’t a Chardonnay fan but the knowledgeable landlord explained it was a lighter less oaky version and I loved it. The staff are always welcoming, and friendly, and happy to give local info or walking routes. Dogs seem welcome too, with a stash of biscuits behind the bar to keep the most important members of the family happy.

Looks great when you enter but the first thing you notice once seated is the place is soulless with a library ambience. Roast beef returned cold and over cooked, replacement hot and over cooked. Roast Pork and deserts were much better. Overall disappointing!

Had lunch here today, 4 adults 1 child. Disappointed to say the least, fantastic decor let down by the service and the food. Sat for ages waiting for menus and drinks order to be taken by a less than cheerful barman/owner/waiting staff, despite there being only one other table occupied at the time, had to ask for a children's menu took quite a while to come (just me or having a 10yr old with me should I have been offered this with the other very limited menus? ). I had pork belly and bacon pie, I found little evidence of bacon and only 3 yes 3 small pieces of pork in a very watery pie, nice pastry though. Food order eventually taken and delivered promptly and turned up very well presented. All in all I shan't be going back in a hurry for an over priced lunch, shame.

My partner and I had seen this pub on our travels and had a quick look at the menu once but were unable to eat there. We recently went there for dinner as a treat and were so disappointed. The environment and service were lovely. I have not had such awful carrots as veg for years, soggy and tasteless. The lamb was slow baked but ended up being just like stringy mutton. My partner's duck confit was just too greasy. So disappointing. we don't know if the regular chef was away or it was a day off. It looks as if it ought to be really good food to go with the decor; just wasn't.

We went as a group of three not long before Xmas for lunch. A nice setting in a small village between Basingstoke and Alton. A friendly pub with good service. We shared a fish platter for starter and then chose braised lamb shoulder for two of us and sole for the other. All meals were very good. The orange and cranberry Elton mess was a difference from the normal Elton mess and very tasty. We will definitely meet up there again

This is my second time of reviewing this pub. There is literally no better customer service offered at any pub I have ever visited - as a staff group you cannot fault the service from start to finish which is better than many higher end restaurants we have visited. We had a minor 'glitch' which was dealt with in an impressive way, and we all stated that it was a perfect set of responses to the problem. The owners really care, genuinely, about the experience they provide to each group. The table settings and interior are immaculate, there is just a feeling of consistency and strong leadership supported by experienced staff. Thanks again Royal Oak, we will be back.

7 of us went to the Royal Oak on Friday night for Christmas dinner. The food was tasty and well presented, we all enjoyed what we had chosen (I especially loved the cafe latte panne cotta). We were served at just the right speed and in a friendly but unassuming way. I was particularly impressed by the the way they went the extra mile to make some adjustments to the menu for one of the members of our party. We had a sort of separate room where it was easy to hear each other talk but there was also an upbeat atmosphere from people in the other part of the restaurant. I would say this was our most enjoyable family Christmas dinner experience over the past 5 or 6 years visiting various pubs in the area.

Lovely pub off the beaten track. Well cared for and nice decor. The three of us settled for a light lunch deal, me with cauliflower starter, the other two for main and dessert. My cauliflower was delicious and as a non-dessert eater, I have to say their desserts looked delicious and plentiful. All in all made to feel very welcome and a lovely halfway visiting point between friends that we will certainly use again.

Found this via a search on our way back home as we were hungry and fancied a good pub meal. The reviews on TripAdvisor were good, so we detoured off the main road to find it. The pub was very quiet, and we arrived before their food serving times but that was not a problem. The landlord welcomed us in, checked with the kitchen and seated us. The food was excellent - tasty, substantial portions, arrived quickly and was excellent value. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it, and we will visit again when we are in the area.

We are very pleased with finding this pub, and had no idea somewhere so good was close-by to us. The presentation and maintenance of the exterior and interior are immaculate; you can tell when driving up to it that it is a well-looked after establishment with high standards. Inside the decor was incredibly pleasing - it has all been very carefully planned out, from the chairs and tables, to detail with the many accessories, art-work and flowers. Everything looked incredibly clean and very welcoming, a genuinely comfortable and thoughtfully designed environment. We were welcomed immediately and the service throughout was about the best I've received in any pub. Tables were set ready for dining, with absolutely glossy spotless cutlery and glasses. The theme I felt throughout was about 'standards', and there was no doubt that those responsible for the day to day running of this establishment have clear views about the type of experience they want customers to have, from arrival to leaving. The day we were there it was adults-only groups eating, and a nice calm and quiet environment without obtrusive music playing (hurrah!). There are larger tables, in their own slightly private areas, but mostly there are smaller tables for couples and groups of 4 in the main room.

I have never eaten here but cycled past many times and last night was the night to finally give it a go. Most of us had the lamb shoulder which was excellent and a very decent portion but there was sausage and mash, steak as well as fish on the table. All very good portions and certainly no complaints from us on the food. I heard that the Sunday roasts are goos there. Guess we will have to go and find out :)

We went here last night for a family meal. The food was to. die. for. beautifully presented and tasted as good if not better than it looked. The menu was unusual and unique to the restaurant. The service was good and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. What finished the experience off were the interesting little touches such as the handmade wooden salt and pepper container with the cutest little salt spoon. A lot of the wooden tables are also handmade. These are all done by a local carpenter.

We stayed one night and ate in restaurant. Only had starters but food was very nice. Friendly staff member called Olly. Couldn’t have been more helpful. Good nights sleep. Then breakfast !! One male member of staff who just couldn’t be bothered. Zero customer service. Got us a hot drink but no offer of fruit juice, toast or any cereal. Glasses on table too. From the moment we held our son’s christening here in 2022, I knew this is the place I’d get married. Simon and the team are the most accommodating, adaptable, friendly people and deserve a medal for putting up with us and our requests. No question went unanswered, no request was too much. Simon never ever left me waiting for a reply and encouraged us to visit the venue as often as we needed to set the scene. We had 3 whole days to set up (not that we needed it as Simon and the team were on hand to make everything look perfect before we arrived). He liaised with our suppliers and kept us updated constantly! He knew exactly what we wanted and exceeded all expectations! The following morning (with some sore heads) we arrived to undress the venue to find most of it had been done for us and our cards and gifts locked safely away. He even let my son have a ride on the lawn mower! My only regret from the day was not having our ceremony at the departure lounge as they make it look so beautiful! The highest recommendations go to Simon and the team at the departure lounge and we’re already looking for another excuse to throw a party here.

Absolutely random visit! We were desperate for lunch on our way home from Guildford and hadn't made plans as to where we were going to eat. My wife spotted a brown sign with a knife and fork and 'garden centre' on it so we turned off the A31 to give it a try. We are so glad we did! The Tree House Coffee Shop is an absolute gem of a café in a family run garden centre. Lovely, welcoming, friendly staff, good food and absolutely gorgeous homemade cakes. Mrs P even got chance to spend some time with the garden centre's cat! One disappointment - we don't live nearby!!
