We were a party of three. Got a friend staying over and we wanted to go somewhere local and walk-able and with a dog also in tow. The one plus point is they are happy with dogs in the establishment. Tried this gaff before and not been impressed, especially with the food side. The beer, best not go there. If you don't drink lager, good luck with the one and only cask ale in sight. A Harvey's Best of questionable condition and quality. Over to the food. Standard pub grub fare you see anywhere. Hence starts the fiasco of ordering the food. Initial order was for 2 chicken pies, and one butter? chicken burger. This order was taken and promptly cancelled as they had "run out of these chicken pies- sorry". Ok, we said, lets go for one portion of fish and chips and 2 potions of chicken burgers. Minutes later an apologetic barmaid comes to the table we are at and says the last fish and chips portion has sold!. This was re-selected as sausage and mash and at last the order was processed! Food, arrived a few minutes later but only 2 potions. The second butter chicken burger meal was mysteriously missing. "with you soon was the stock comment". Twenty minutes later still no third meal. After chasing, it did actually arrive. We all ate it but were not impressed with the quality of the meals. Now we come to the bill. The fish and chips was still on the charge and was more expensive than the bangers and mash replacing it. This was queried but little was altered on the bill itself, but we were given a £1.20 something cash refund. By now, we had lost the will to live and couldn't wait to get out and go home. We are not passing customers, been in that pub since 1986 but on this showing, never again!

I have visited this pub once before around January and had a terrible time, the food quality was poor as was the attitude of the staff which was quite rude. I was going to write up a review then but after a couple beers I decided to leave it. Fast forward to March and I decided to give them another chance as I passed by on the way home from work and I have to say I was very surprised…. I don’t know how they managed to get ruder and even more unprofessional but they certainly managed it. My personal favourite was the soggy fish cake I waited 40 minutes for or the masala which was actually pretty nice but came out cold with a stale naan, when I complained to the bar i was barraged with a abuse by a shrill blonde lady so I just paid and left. Overall 2/10 I will be warning anyone brave enough to venture to the Royal Oak.

We visited here as a last minute booking and it was amazing. Right on the edge of crawley which we had never visited before and is also great area! The pub is stunning, the food is excellent. I am a massive roast dinner fan and this is probably the best roast dinner I have ever been served. The staff were very friendly and professional. Will definitely be visiting again when in crawley!

We decided to bring our annual golf day after-party here. It was excellent. Up to 150 people came along. There were loads of extremely helpful staff keeping us fed and watered. Never had to wait for a drink. And the food was exceptional. An amazing buffet - the the best I've seen in any pub - plus a chilli and rice. And all of this food was provided free of charge by the lovely people at the Royal Oak. An exceptional night, we were incredibly well looked after and I will be having other family functions and parties here, they got it just right. The night ended with everyone dancing and singing to the DJ. Brilliant.

I’m just going to go straight to the point this is by far the worst pub in England, the food looks, smells and tastes disgusting, the pub has a very weird lingering smell, and I’m pretty sure I saw a rat, I feel very bad for the people living there, considering they opened in January decor is very outdated and sparse and if I didn’t know any better I’d have thought they had opened last week, the menu is pretending to be fancy but is failing miserably, loud swearing while kids are around, definitely not a family pub as it’s advertised, don’t waste your time going to this pub you would be better off going to McDonald’s or KFC.

To put it bluntly the food was grim, I didn’t enjoy it all and it took ages to come out. They’re trying way to hard to be boujee when their regulars couldn’t care less about the fancy nonsense the “chef” tries to send out. The staff here all enjoy a drink or two etc on shift and don’t forget about the sniff. Overall the place is shoddy and management seems very inexperienced and in over their head.

After seeing the reviews thought we would try it on our travels. Great atmosphere and staff. Pub very tatty particularly the carpet. We had a meal and to be honest it was awful. Missippii chicken was large chicken nuggets with a tired side salad and a chilli sauce. As for the fish and chips, soggy chips and a reconstituted piece of fish that looked nothing like a piece of fish. Sorry but it was awful.

My self and my wife visited this pub with our young Grandchildren, we will never visit again we sat in the garden but all we could hear was loud signing and swearing when I spoke to a member of staff they informed me that it was the locals in the smaller bar and that it was okay as “there always like that” when I pointed out that we had young children with us and I found this to be inappropriate as they advertise as a Family Pub I was told there’s no point in saying anything as people have complained before and nothing happens as the locals spend lots of money, at this point we decided to leave. I would avoid at all costs.

Went here for lunchtime team meal out to welcome a new member of staff. I'd booked ahead and had received a call the day before confirming the booking. I assumed it must get busy, be really good, etc. Anyways, we arrived and were met with an odd welcome. The lady behind the bar said there wasn't much on the menu and showed me a sheet of A4 with list of sandwiches and typical pub grub options. I said I'd booked and asked if there had been a problem in the kitchen. She said no problem other than their food delivery hadn't arrived?!?! We were able to order jacket spuds (one had gammon and chips). The food arrived about 10 mins later and was OK but not what we'd hoped. The website menu offers far more so I can only go on what we had, which was average food. Not the friendliest of places. Maybe they were having an off day. Probably wouldn't return.....

We ate here last night and really enjoyed ourselves and the food and the staff and the dogs and the rabbit. However, we were not told about the Wednesday meal deal, even though it is on an advertising board on the front patio. We only noticed it today when we returned for lunch. Before going, we looked online and saw a lunch deal but when we asked about it, we were told they do not do that any more. Why is it on the website? We ate lunch anyway and once again enjoyed the food. Then we asked for dessert and were told the kitchen was closed at 2:30. We were disappointed . . . and were further disappointed when we walked outside and saw another advertising board right by the sidewalk listing the lunch meal deal!?!? I went back inside and told this to the female behind the bar and she just shrugged her shoulders. It soured our opinion of the pub.

The pub was busy.We were made to feel most welcome by the Landlady and Barman. We were handed a menu and found a table to sit down at.After reading the reviews on here my son and i decided on the 1/2 pounder burger and my daughter went for the Gammon steak. After ordering at the bar with some drinks the bill came to around £30 which was more than reasonable. After about 15/20 mins we were served.Well...all i can say is WOW! i could not believe how good it looked, the big proper burgers came with some salad, coleslaw, chutney and the biggest chips ever covered in a well tasty seasoning, the Gammon came with the same. We dug in and OMG did the burgers taste good or what? They were so tasty with the bacon, melted cheese and mushroom oozing from the sides, the bun was not your average boring bun but a proper burger bun. I sampled a bit of my daughters Gammon and it was just perfection all round. The Landlady asked us if everything and i assured it was.We all managed to finished our meals suprisingly enough and felt totally stuffed and could even bear the thought off a sweet! we finished our drinks and made for the exit,on my way out i kindly said to the Landlady that was the best ever, absolutely brilliant..Thankyou I would highly reccomend The Royal Oak to anyone should you be visiting that area, you will not be dissapointed beleive me.

Absolutely lovely to eat at a pub that isn't a chain pub menu and does fab food. Lovely menu, good selection of choices but not overwhelming and reasonably priced. Between us we had steak, which was cooked to perfection and seasoned well and a giant burger. The burger meat was good quality, cooked well and tasted amazing. The side salads on both meals were very fresh, crispy and enhanced the meal rather than being something to fill space on a plate. Staff were friendly and attentive. Over all we'll be back.

I had a very tasty Burger. My wife had a chicken burger. We both agreed they were very tasty. Nice and hot.Good service from the staff. Very welcoming. It's a traditional British pub ( thank god) not ruined by the family pub establishments. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.Only slight niggle is that the food was served on a slate. What's wrong with plates these days???Will be back!!

We called in here when staying at Little Foxes. The pub had a lot of locals in and not many people eating when we arrived. I love my pies and I was not disappointed. The portions were huge, was home made. Glynn looked after us and was very attentive. Liked it so much we had to stay for dessert. Cannot wait to fly from Gatwick again, just to go back to this pub!

Stayed over at the Little Foxes Hotel and wanted some evening dinner so we headed to the Royal Oak, just a 2 minute drive or a 10-15 minute walk (paths are not great so I'd recommend driving or getting a taxi). Great beer and food, really good value. Warm and cosy little traditional pub!

Just fifteen minutes stroll from the Little Foxes Hotel, this pub has a good menu choice and a range of beers and ales. Quick service and fair prices. Very friendly staff and animals. ( The beer garden has guinea pigs and a giant rabbit ) Got to know their dogs and some of the local canines too. Only downside is the walk ( stagger ) back to the Little foxes with limited pavements and streetlighting for part of the way. It is do-able though !!.

Popped in before a flight to Crete and only did so because they were so helpful on Facebook. Great food at a reasonable price in a nice old pub and the service was equally as good.

Clearly this pub has been around for many decades, and certainly older than some of the surrounding housing. Interesting glass fibre beams inside!Good size car park, with large beer garden at the rear. Apparently entertainment in the evening as there was a stage constructed. There was an extensive food menu, but we only came in for a drink. Real ale is available besides the usual lager/ciders. Bar service was good. Will certainly come in for a meal when in the area again.

Took wife 91 year old aunt here as one of her carers recommended it. It wasn't posh, but was quite homely with friendly staff. At the time of our visit the serving guy was also drilling and fitting up hi fi speakers! The food was plentiful and well presented. Cannot recall what aunt or wife had, but I went for one of my favourite dishes-Hunters chicken. Now this was one of the best I have had, both in size of portion but also in the sauce. Was very pleased. In fact wife and I have been back, without aunt, and I obviously went for Hunters chicken again. A smaller pub, with a good range of foods on the menu. There is an outside area-useful weather permitting. I thought the prices were average and would quite happily go back again

As a group of 6 lads we chose the Royal Oak following fellow reviews, and we truly were not disappointed. Although it was a very busy Saturday evening we were well received by the friendly staff and the food was lovely. As a group of lads not from the area we couldn't have praised the service and pub more. The bar staff had good sense of humour and it made for a good experience. All I can say is come try the food for yourselves. Thank you for a Lovely evening

With thanks to Tripadvisor I chose the Royal Oak for a lunchtime venue near (but not too near) Gatwick, as a change from the corporate restaurants and fast food chains. What a pleasant surprise, a nice pub tucked away where you'd least expect it, and where you weren't drowned out by aircraft noise outside or Muzak inside. Nice and quiet, and the fish finger sandwich leapt out from the menu. I won't embarrass the landlord by quoting prices, but suffice to say I did a double take at the value for money. And then got the Guiltiest Pleasure of the Year at the doorstop-deep slices of fresh bread which made up the sandwich, along with proper chips, coleslaw and relish. So, if you need to be near Gatwick but don't need the crowds or the industrial catering, check this place out!

Working in a local b and b I am often asked to recommend eateries and am happy to recommend the royal oak, guests come back and comment on the friendly atmosphere and excellent food. Several have gone on a Saturday night when they regularly have live music and I am told this fairly new addition to their service is very enjoyable. So whether you are a visitor in the area or a local this is the place to go to enjoy the ambiance plus entertainment .

Was almost on my doorstep (2 min walk)the staff are generally quite good. The food is actually a top seller for me, the price you pay which is generally £7:50 for most meals in there you actually get a decent meal for what the price is.I often had the chicken sizzler! The menu was a nice varied & small size. The alcohol prices seemed normal for what it usually is.Would recommend!

I was on a business trip in London last week. The weather was very cold. The Royal Oak at iField Street is Crawley made the trip a pleasure. The restaurant served simple but excellent meals. Steaks, curries with a great specials menu. The pub was run by a lovely family. The locals were friendly. The pub was cozy. The steak was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere of the pub is very welcoming. Like a GIT I left my bag there after a few reds the previous night. They held the bag for me to collect the next day and only teased me a little when i went in to pick it up.

Whenever we fly from Gatwick we always stay at a hotel in Ifield, rather than close to the airport - the reason is simply because we like going to the Royal Oak for a few pints and a simple pub meal in the evening. They do 3 real ales and good value, simple pub food (except on Sunday evening). It's a local's pub but we've always been made to feel welcome, by the staff and customers. If I've one complaint, it's only that I'd like a stronger beer in the line-up!

Have eaten at The Oak several times as it is local to us. The welcome is always first class and the beer good. Tried the new menu this week which was seriously good. It is rare to find good pub food that is not gastro, restaurant or over-priced. They get it just about right, with good quality pub food at genuine pub prices. The steaks are very recommended, as is the homemade burger which is definitely on the 'having again' list!!

This is a localish pub to me so visited a few times but not extensively. Very dog and non local friendly.Beer okTv sports are shown but not the best venue.Beer garden a bit run down but still nice. Why the chef warning? I have never seen him but he must be a giant! Portion sizes are huge! ( and generally always come with red cabbage). Main meal cost good value and quality pretty good. Some nice specials. This is reason why it got 4 and not the average 3 stars.Bit puzzled by some of the pricing on sauces and sides etc.Would def recommend to other locals to try out. They also do occasion live music etc..Ps the red cabbage comment is a positive! Very nice

Lovely traditional countryside pub with friendly staff and a reasonable selection of beers. But food best described as adequate, sliced batch bread and pre-pack ham is not good enough, even at a reasonable price. Garden very run down, Pubs like this must 'up their game' or die like so many others have.

Loved the ambience of this great little pub, which lives up to it's reviews. My steak was excellent, cooked exactly as I asked, and the onion rings to die for. My father also greatly enjoyed his ham and potato soup, and steaming hot Spotted Dick with custard. The only thing that was a little off-putting was a woman who bought 3 or 4 dogs in, and sat near the eating area...particularly noticeable when they kicked up a ruckus at another dog. We like dogs, and don't mind them in pubs if well-behaved, but did feel she was taking advantage of the publicans and customers good nature by bringing so many in. (Two other diners near us also expressed the same opinion, incidently) She didn't stay for long after the ruckus, so we do suspect she may have been given the hint. Apart from that, though, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would go back again.
