A cosy, unspoilt pub serving real ale and competitively priced food! The owners are very friendly too. This was our first visit in which we stopped by for lunch during the Christmas break, but we look forward to returning for dinner in the very near future!

I visit this pub 2 or 3 times a year to meet up with a friend. It is about half way between our houses but each of us still has to travel c 20 miles to meet there. The Marine is a quiet, friendly, unpretentious English pub wuith a landlord and landlady who know their regulars and offer a friendly welcome and unassuming good service to all comers. The beer is in perfect condition, the pub is clean and the atmosphere convivial. It could not be more perfect for our purposes.

Trip adviser and Google listing showed it as open, but at 9pm it was shut. This meant we had to look around for somewhere else locally. we went to the Golden Grove instead, that was excellent.

We decided to make a long overdue return visit The Marine on a stormy wet Saturday night and were disappointed to find it closed (OK,we should have looked at the website!). Nevertheless,we returned on Sunday at lunchtime and were pleased to find the pub completely unchanged-a proper English village pub, nothing pretentious here, just good hand pulled beers and what looked like good grub.Friendly long serving landlord and a mixture of local customers. We don't live far away,so we have no excuse not to return soon.

I was dismayed to read Kays17 critical review of the Royal Marine, which is a traditional village pub whose landlord and landlady, Pat and Sue, could not be more welcoming and friendly. They also provide excellent food and beer at a reasonable price. The pub is small and intimate. The review gives a completely false impression. I was at the Royal Marine with my wife and disabled father in law at the same time as the reviewer and her party. It was sometime after they had arrived that I needed to go to the gents, which I could do only by clambering over their various baby equipment, which was blocking the route. I said nothing but the landlady obviously saw the situation and came over to speak to the ladies. She was the epitome of politeness and what she said was completely reasonable. My disabled father in law uses a walking frame and wheelchair. Wherever we take him he insists that his equipment is stored completely unobtrusively. Pat and Sue are excellent with him. We cannot recommend the Royal Marine highly enough.

Went to have lunch after a baby class in the village hall. 3 of us with well behaved babies 6 months old. We were just sorting the babies before going to order our lunch and were asked by a female member or staff to "make space, as we will be having a busy session with the builders coming in soon". "We will be very busy with them and it's a small pub". This made us feel not at all welcome to say the least. Needless to say we left. A shame as we will be in the village hall every week and were looking for somewhere close to go for lunch nearby each time. Would have been very willing to move our pushchairs to somewhere else or back in the car if we had been approached in a friendlier manner.

A charming public House in the pleasant Surrey countryside. A welcoming staff and excellent food prepared by Sue Davey. Beverages and food reasonably priced. An interesting interior with pleasant locals to talk to. Easy access for disabled persons. Children welcome - not sure.

Stopped off for a light lunch and the sandwiches were fine with great staff and clientele. There is a great selection of beers and plenty of parking also. Good place to stop if you are in the area.

Been in to the Royal Marine a few times as its around the corner from my Field Archery club. The pub is tradtional in decor and whilst small has enough space for its clientele. Staff have always been friendly and dry humor abounds. Food is good and I recommend the Sunday lunch. But my favorate feature is the Landlords special real ale which is always a good beer and very cost effective as well. Although this last visit I went for the Doom Bar.. Lovely. Plenty off off-road parking at the back as well as a quiet pub garden. Worth a visit if your in the area.

I've only ever had a burger and it was ok, nothing special. We go for the excellent open mic, third Wednesday in the month usually. An enjoyable evening of free entertainment from friendly local musicians.

Whilst the food was nice, once it arrived that is, the service was very poor, due to the lack of staff over all it took over 3 hours to complete our meal and we sat for about 10 minutes with our main courses on the table on serving trays and had to ask for plates and cutlery, we ended up getting the cutlery off an another table. The food ended up being cold, they did take the steak if the bill along with the service charge. The young lady that served us was very pleasant but was clearly new at the job and was t really supported properly by her colleagues. Several of our first choices were unavailable too, it was steak night and they had run out at lunchtime of what appeared to be the more popular choices. We are all used to fine dining and don't mind paying for it, but £50 for a bottle of wine that normally retails for £16 seemed to me to be somewhat if an excessive margin. I know pubs need to make a profit but they need to factor in value for money into the equation to encourage customers to come back. There are several pubs in the area offering a similar if not better experience for half the price When we expressed our concerns and the managers reply was "dont come back then" and I can ensure him that we won't. Several of our friends had cautionary tales about this venue, and we should have paid more attention. The service issues here seem to be a common theme, and dont expect to get parked here either the car park is very small.

Top service from the team on a busy Friday night! Big shout out to Betsy who, despite being on her own, managed to serve an entire restaurant efficiently and without fuss and to an incredibly high standard.
