We stayed here on the way down to Devon for our holiday as a family of 4. The hotel/pub/restaurant is actually quite decent, very clean, presentable and in a great location. It was the attitude of the staff that let the visit down. When we arrived, the staff on the welcome (lol nothing welcoming about it) desk didn’t even look up at us when we said hello, just carried on typing away for a good 45 seconds, not so much as a “Hi there, I will be one moment for you.” After some time had passed they looked up and said “can we help you?” The room was actually the best part of the stay, a bit dated, but a big comfy bed, clean and good amenities, what more can you ask for? The staff at the bar were very disinterested and unwelcoming when trying to place an order for food/drink, they were stood in a group chit chatting, looked up at us, continued their conversation and eventually came over to ask again, “can we help you?” All the fire alarms went off in the early hours of the morning around 1am/1.30am. We evacuated our bedroom along with others to reception to be met by the staff who said it was a fault on the fire alarm circuit board in the office and to “go back to bed”. No apology was offered and no apology was offered in the morning for the inconvenience and disruption (I’ve worked in hospitality for over 16 years, I understand things can sometimes go wrong that you can’t help, but it was the attitude of the staff that really bothered us). They just looked as if they couldn’t care less and that they really didn’t want to be there. The icing on the cake was when we tried to order a coffee in the morning to be told “well, we will need to let the breakfast staff know you want a coffee, so you will have to wait” as if it was a massive inconvenience. Like we said, we stopped here as a halfway point and were considering stopping here on the way back home, but we will NOT be returning because of the attitude of the staff and the unwelcoming environment.

Very beautiful Cotswold setting. Great menu, brilliant food and drink. Melissa, our waitress was very attentive, very professional and a friendly manner. She should be given a reward for brilliant service. All credit to who ever recruited and trained her.

Popped in for dinner after our return from holiday - our visit finished our holiday off fabulously before our return to work tomorrow. Greeted by the lady at the hotel desk as we walked in, a general buzz about the place, busy but it did not feel crowded (given it was a bank holiday). Delicious well presented food from a broad menu - the beetroot ravioli was divine (a treat to find edamame in my side salad!), whilst my husband and daughter both enjoyed the burgers, even squeezed in a dessert & can thoroughly recommend the Bakewell tart, soooo melt in the mouth and my daughter loved her crumble tart. Swift, friendly service with a smile by Jo, Melissa and another young lady who served our food. Added bonus that we could take the dog in the bar too and not have to leave him at home (and we could grab a snack bag for him whilst supporting Macmillan Cancer too) - thank you, we will be back!

Lovely location with a huge beer garden. The food was excellent - generous portions, well cooked and very tasty. We sat for a long time but nobody tried to move us on. service was good too.

We were celebrating my sisters birthday and a going away dinner for myself. It was a lovely evening that was made even better by Jasmine. She was very polite and friendly and had a good laugh with us. She was very well experienced and showed excellent service and attention to detail. I miss took her for a member of management and was shocked to find out she was just a team member. Working in the hospitality industry myself I can see she has lots of potential.

Lovely Food in a lovely friendly atmosphere. Staff attentive. Highly recommended. I had a great gammon steak with cracking chips. The partner had the vegetarian Mac and cheese with a beautiful looking salad. Pudding was a strawberry cheesecake and a chocolate brownie sundae. Both perfect.

Experience was awful, booked a table for four by mother has not been in years, she was so looking forward to the meal, arrive show to table all good so far, menu looked good we order starter and mail along with drinks, waitress was uninterested. Starters arrive with in 10 minutes, ok, have had better, then we waited and waited and after 35 minutes I enquired as to the location of our main course, said waitress went to investigate arrived with two plates stating they were hot be careful, they were cold along with the salmon and the rubber poached egg which was cold, obviously had been left under the heated lamps for sometime. They were taken away, by husband and son had their meals served, warmer but obviously had been left under heating lamps for some time. 20 minutes later meals arrived, hot yes but salmon was burnt and had to leave half of it !! Waitress did not return to take any further orders had to get up and approah said waitress who was on her phone. At which time I asked if the manager of the hotel was the same as the restaurant, she asked if I wantd to speak to them i said yes later. We were appraoched by the manager who stated they had taken the cost of the 2 meals from the bill before even asking what was wrong, ok good but the replacement was as bad as the first attempt, I really wish we had left. At no time did a waitress return to sk if we required any more drinks, we were sat there for an hour and 3/4, with just 1 drink each and meals at 30 minute intervals, will ot be going back and will not be recommended

Was referred to the royal George by staff at the golden hart as their kitchen was closed. Greeting was good, menu looked tasty and bar staff were pleasant - so far so good. My wife ordered prawn and chilli linguini and I ordered a sirloin steak (this supposedly came with “grilled tomato, onion rings and chips). Bit of a wait (45mins) but fair enough, it was pretty busy; now the bad bit - my steak arrived, along with half a tomato (possibly a large cherry tomato) and one onion ring…I had trouble trying to cut the steak using the steak knife provided, it was that tough. So, asked for the manager - he was off, so got the acting manager. He listened politely and said he would get me another steak. Took my plate (and left my side of seasonal veg to get cold) and reappeared 20 mins later, with another meal: half a cold tomato, a new steak, fewer chips than previously, and 3 onion rings. This steak proved to be as tough as the first, so having attempted to eat it, I left most of it. My wife found that her prawn linguini contained a total of 3 prawns and hardly any sauce. Not sure if this was the chefs night off and a waiter was standing in, but the food as a whole was not acceptable. The under manager, having delivered the replacement, was nowhere to be seen (thought he might have inquired as the quality of the second meal) and offered neither to replace the veg or reheat the originals. A real shame to write this, as the setting was delightful but unfortunately, the attitude displayed was that having taken our money, the quality was our problem. Shan’t return! Alan Seear

Jody looked after us as soon as we arrived. Gave us plenty of time to have a look at the drinks menu before taking our order. The drinks arrived promptly and we then placed our Sunday lunch order. Food arrived very quickly and piping hot. I asked Jody for extra gravy and this was not a problem. Our food was very tasty with a massive Yorkshire pudding. Just perfect. Highly recommend and will be back soon

Dropped in for a quick drink during a Friday evening as we were passing and needed a break. We were welcomed at the bar by a friendly young lady, Vicki, who was really friendly and attentive and quick to serve our drinks order. One of the draft beers had to be changed and this was done quickly and without any problem. The atmosphere was fairly lively and quite busy and although we didn't eat, the food looked and smelled great. We hope to visit again if we're ever in the area.

We had a wonderful sharing platter for our evening meal. We were served by Layla, who was friendly, efficient and made us feel really welcome. We had an excellent coffee and a perfect 'small' Eton mess!!! We were stuffed! We had booked our room online so received 20% off our evening meal bill, fantastic value for money. Layla could not have been more helpful, a real star! This has been our second visit to The Royal George Hotel. This time we asked if it would be possible to have a room on the ground floor and that was not a problem! Very much appreciated the warm welcome and the excellent room 8 on the ground floor. The hotel really is superb. We have had no problems at all when we have stayed. The beds have been comfortable, the rooms warm and inviting, well lit, T.V and kettles that work plus plenty of hot water! We will certainly visit again and highly recommend The Royal George Hotel.

We went to the royal George last night for dinner. Ate in the bar and was greeted and served by Vicki. Very attentive and polite.food was great too

Great place to meet with family , drinks and food first class . We were looked after by Vicki , she was a perfect host ,will be back again soon and hope to be looked after by Vicki next time 😉

Lovely visit. Service was very good and food nice and hot!! Great variety and brilliant for a nice dog walk after / before! Big shout out to Hollie & Jayme who looked after us really well.

Whilst staying at the hotel we decided to have lunch. Both choose the Lasagne and chips which were seved hot and tasty. However the service was extremely poor, we had to continuously explain what we needed, including intolerance issues. Breakfast the following day was OK, but items cold( not even luke warm) and eggs Royal stated on menu jug of hollanise sauce?, not given , just a mess with green on top. Please could chef just stick to menu as to include items not specified may cause allergic reaction! Had to hunt for waitress to get food heated as had disappeared.

Always a friendly welcome from all. The Manager and Bar Manager are so welcoming. Used our Tastecard for the first time here, so it was a great deal. Nice choice of food. Choices arrived promptly and both meals were hot and tasty. Good value.

To start, we had Sunday Lunch's which were fab to eat. The service however.. abysmal! We were there 45 minutes before being served our drinks which we had to ask for as they served our food. We were then completely ignored until we asked someone for a desert menu, we then had to chase down a member of staff to order a kids desert (just 1) and after another 35 minutes of waiting went to find someone and get the desert. Bearing in mind there was lots of free tables so they were not very busy! To top it off they charged us the incorrect bill for a much larger table. We now have to wait 3-5 days to have that money refunded and had to pay on top of this for our actual meal. I have never had an experience like this. As a fan of Greene King I was left completely unhappy. Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 children. Will not return!

Most amazing Christmas lunch! 3 courses of deliciousness. Our server Tegan was super friendly and nothing was too much. Food came out prompt and beautifully presented. We will definitely be coming back for Christmas Dinner

Excellent food! I did my best to work through the menu this week and found every dish delicious. The inn is over 100 years old and os surrounded by mature forest, scenic views, and an old English village. The birdlip was an excellent surprise as it has several wooded walking trails.

I arranged a 3 night stay at the hotel with 19 members of a Walking Group. Elaine, Joanne and Jamee were extremely helpful with making the arrangements for our stay. Two members of the group were able to bring their dog along as the Hotel is pet friendly. The food served in the restaurant was varied and we were able to pre order Sunday roast for the group. Many thanks to all the restaurant staff especially Jodie who was very Customer focused and Jack who served drinks in the bar. So a big thank you to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable we will certainly return again in the future.

Random opening hours ( not as advertised) refused service despite being according to all adverts ‘open’… polite but without a welcome gesture.

Unfortunately our experience was not all that great, upon arrival we gave our name after booking online. They did not have our booking- we were then discussing whether to sit in the bar instead as they did not have our booking. The server picker up...

My recent experience at the Royal George in Birdlip was incredibly underwhelming. The lack of enthusiasm displayed by the staff was disheartening, creating an atmosphere that was bleak and uninspiring. This sense of gloom extended to both the bar and kitchen, where tired, lackluster food was consistently served. If you're looking for a place to lift your spirits and indulge in some delicious food, the Royal George is not it.

We often visit when walking our dog in local woods. Menu is reasonably priced and of good quality. Hotel is definitely dog friendly and I always feel relaxed, unlike in some establishments. Staff are efficient and we have never had to wait too long for...

This place is very worn out! We stayed here for one night while hiking the Cotswolds Way, and we were glad that it was only for one night. This is not a cozy place. It has a strange and moulded smell, especially near the rooms....

We had a celebration lunch on Sunday and were really well looked after, the food was really good with slick & friendly service also catering for all dietary needs - as there were 49 of us that's alot of people to please!

This was probably the worst meal I have had served up. I ordered the award winning beef and ale pie. The crust of the pie was rock hard and inedible. The mash potato tasted like instant mash and was reheated.The accompanying gravy was so thick...

I went for a meal on Saturday evening with my husband. The food was lovely and the customer service was brilliant especially from Vicky. We will definitely be returning.

Agree with some other reviews here - food is very good (surprisingly good!) and good value but the restaurant/bar area could do with a bit of a make over. The hotel part looked nice too although we didn't stay here so can't really comment on...

This pub is a hit with us. Great value food. Staff are all so lovely. Only thing that lets it down is that the pub could do with a big makeover. Apart from that , we really do enjoy goi f there.

A very good pub to stop by and have a meal, as they are good quality and served all day (after 12:00noon) without having to wait very long. I will often divert to have a meal there when returning from London. However, on two occasions...

We took 2 bedrooms towards the rear of the hotel for 1 night. This is a chain hotel but the service was very good. Plenty of car parking space. Note that there is no lift in the building. Our evening meal consisted of a shared...

We were driving near Birdlip on route from the South Coast to a family wedding in Shropshire. We wanted to stop for a ‘proper’ lunch and this was perfect. Not too busy at Friday lunchtime, fabulous menu and excellent food. All delivered by a cheerful and efficient team.It was so good on the way up, we stopped for Sunday lunch on the way home! We had the trio of roasts (beef/pork/turkey) and it was absolutely superb.

A warm welcome on arrival ! Room was to a hood standard and cleaned daily to a good standard . Staff were pleasant and nothing was a chore. A friendly welcome each morning at breakfast. Reception staff interested in our days our made you feel more than a guest. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Very thought out customer care...ticked all the boxes...very welcoming staff...no problem to much...stayed for 3 nights...the very English breakfast was huge, and when I asked for 3 poached eggs I got them with no bother...also had the evening meals, quality food, credit to all involved in our stay...

Had Sunday lunch this weekend & the service was poor … staff really couldn’t care whether they were busy or not! Food itself was very average … clearly a lot prepared in advance, mass produced, Turkey was inedible so salty & slimy! Portions were good but just poor quality & not good value for money either. Best bit was the Yorkshire pudding but rest meh! Really disappointed.

All the staff are very friendly and helpful and provided very good service, special mention for Chloe, (n training) who's smile lit up the room and Carol on reception.

Came here for a family birthday meal, and everything was amazing. As there was 13 of us, we had to sit on two different tables due to COVID guidelines which was accommodated to and was no hassle to the staff at all. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly, plus the food was outstanding. Thank you all for a lovely evening, will be definitely recommending to friends and family, and will be coming back again.

What a lovely first post-pandemic weekend we had! The team were lovely, friendly and ridiculously hard working (thank you Jody!) The menu had a fab and varied selection that included vegan options in hearty portions (vegan meals tend to be child-sized in many places!). There's a large, family-friendly bar and outdoor seating as well. The beds were cosy, the rooms cleaned daily, there's a good-sized car park, adjustable heating in the rooms, and all of this nestled in a stunning part of the country with Cheltenham and Gloucester a short drive away. Thank you! We will be back.

Service is first rate, food good value and always nice, well spaced out tables inside, plus a large garden area with tables and benches. The Greene King app is very easy to use , so you can order drink and food and pay via app or via a member of staff. Nice woodland walk straight from the garden to enjoy afterwards. Large car park. My old Golden Retriever was always welcome inside the bar and in the garden, with water bowls available for a thirsty dog. Accommodation is good too for a weekend break

Dinner was fantastic, as always, never had a bad meal here. Sat out in the garden which was glorious. All staff were very attentive and sincerely wanted to help and make our meal great. Fabulous place.

Me and my partner visited for the first time since covid and had a fantastic meal! The staff were attentive and made our first meal out very enjoyable. I really couldn’t fault the service at all. Our food was delicious especially the Burgers - they are my boyfriend’s favourite. I’m really looking forward to coming back with more family. Thank you to all the staff at The Royal George :)

The Royal George was always our favourite place to go, as a special mid week treat or Sunday dinner.But over the last 4 times we have been the food has been awful, this Saturday when we ordered we had informed the waitress that we could not have the onion rings or chips but could we have extra salad. we waited over an HOUR for 2 8oz steaks that when arrived were like bits of tiny dried out leather and the salad on the side looked like it had been sat under the hot lamp for ages, for £12.50 for one tiny bit of steak and a hand full of salad leaves I was appalled.we informed the waitress and sat waiting.... and waiting.... we were in a party of 4 and the other 2 people had already finished eating when the steaks arrived at the table.. another 30 minutes later.No one even acknowledged the fact we had just had a awful meal, no apology!We paid £81.92 for a meal we had been looking forward to for 18 months.So sadly this will be the last time we will be going to the Royal George Hotel.

Family lunch - table of 7 inc young children.The team at the George couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and efficient. The food was yummy and hot. The pies are delicious as are the roasts. The hot drink and small dessert combinations were good too as after a very filling lunch you only want a small dessert. The kids colouring in sheets and puzzles were used and appreciated too. The team both front of house and in the kitchen work very hard to provide a quality product and service under what at the moment are very stressful times. It is appreciated. Thank you. We will be back!

My daughter had her wedding there after having to cancel the original date due to Covid. Can’t thank the staff enough for all their hard work making a special day even more special especially the two girls who looked after the wedding arrangements both fantastic. Thank you so much

We had an impromptu stop at the Royal George for lunch. Very friendly staff and excellent Covid precautions. The menu is extensive with some pub classics. However the food itself was somewhat disappointing. The hot pot pie was tasty but the accompanying vegetables were dry and barely lukewarm, and the mash potato was a solid lukewarm and stodgy (under the lights too long awaiting service?). By contrast, the Hunters chicken was OK, however the dessert of strawberry Prosecco choux bun sounded great but was awash with spray cream from a can - not one for the memory! So overall a disappointing eating experience that promised so much more....

Hotel is in a great location with a fab pub downstairs. For the price this hotel is great value for money. Room was clean with a king size bed and recently renovated bathroom. Main part of the hotel bedroom is a bit tired, with worn old furniture and walls that could do with a repaint. For the price this place is definitely worth the stay.

No habíamos reservado y nos detuvimos ante la posibilidad de tomar una copa de camino a otro lugar. Esto no fue un problema, aunque nuestra falta de un teléfono móvil ralentizó las cosas porque han optado por no usar lápiz y papel sencillos pero anticuados para registrar visitantes para el elemento de seguimiento y rastreo, en lugar de tener que iniciar sesión portátil que tomó un tiempo.Aunque solo estábamos bebiendo, el personal fue muy atento e incluso la mesa nos revisó. El lugar estaba muy limpio, y me encantó la forma en que usan las tarjetas de mesa para mostrar qué mesas se han desinfectado y están listas para su reutilización.Dado que el lugar es un hotel, nos sorprendió gratamente la buena relación calidad-precio de las bebidas.Sin embargo, me divirtió un poco que no se nos permita pedir nuestras bebidas en el bar, pero se esperaba que fuéramos al bar a pagar, ¡parece un poco extraño!Miramos el menú mientras estuvimos allí, y la próxima vez nos colocamos para comer y beber.

Visitamos para el almuerzo hoy, el bar y el jardín admiten perros. Tuvimos una comida deliciosa, todo está muy bien organizado con respecto a COVID - 19 y siempre nos sentimos seguros por dentro y por fuera en el RG. La aplicación Greene King funciona muy bien, por lo que puede pedir y pagar en su mesa con ella, o dar su pedido directamente a un miembro del personal. El servicio suele ser muy bueno y el personal siempre es amable y servicial. Creemos que tiene una buena relación calidad-precio, un gran aparcamiento y siempre es agradable volver

Almorcé aquí con un amigo. He estado almorzando aquí ocasionalmente durante más de 10 años y esto es lo peor que he conocido. La comida que tuve fue la peor que he probado en mi vida. Tuve el mal llamado Cheese & Onion Potato Pie, debería haber sido nombrado Potato Pie con el más suave toque de queso y sin cebolla. La única forma en que sabía que tenía queso era por las motas anaranjadas de la papa. La masa era a prueba de balas y tuve dificultades para meter un tenedor. La mejor parte de la comida fueron los frijoles horneados. El personal obviamente sabía que era mejor que preguntar si estábamos disfrutando de nuestra comida, ya que nunca se acercaron a nuestra mesa excepto para servir a otros.

El Royal George cumplía con Covid 19. Desde el momento en que llega a la entrada, hay un sistema claro de un solo sentido y un montón de desinfectante de manos. El registro fue simple y para hacer que el contacto de salida fuera menor, nos animaron a pagar por adelantado. Se requería el uso de máscaras en los pasillos.La habitación estaba limpia, era cómoda y tenía todo lo que necesitábamos. La única pequeña crítica que tengo es que la habitación necesitaba una pequeña reforma.El desayuno era servicio de mesa y ofrecía una amplia variedad de inglés completo a huevos Benedict, tortillas y pescado.Las cenas eran muy buenas. The Hunters Chicken seguido de Apple BlackBerry Crumble Pie fue excelente. Recomendaría quedarse o comer aquí.

Hay una amplia variedad de lugares para comer cerca de Barrow Wake, donde habíamos completado un paseo. Estamos muy contentos de haber elegido el Royal George. La marca Greene King es una que respetamos por la buena comida a precios razonables. Los amplios y cómodos alrededores del Royal George hicieron que cenar fuera una experiencia sin estrés. Es evidente que Greene King se ha esforzado mucho en crear un entorno amigable con Covid. La comida fue excelente y el servicio atento y amable, que ha sido mi experiencia con todos los establecimientos de Greene King.

Visité aquí un par de veces durante mi estancia en el Premier Inn al final de la calle.La primera visita disfruté muchísimo de toda mi comida, pero mi prometido dijo que su pastel estaba muy seco y recocido. En el lado positivo, la comida estaba a mitad de precio debido al esquema de "comer fuera".En la segunda visita tuve exactamente el mismo entrante y plato principal y me temo que no estaban tan buenos. Champiñones recocidos, patatas fritas no crujientes como la primera vez. Por otro lado, el postre era genial y, de nuevo, todo estaba a mitad de precio.El servicio fue amable, aunque la comida tardó en llegar. Estábamos de vacaciones y no teníamos prisa.Así que, si bien fue una bolsa mixta, en general fue una buena experiencia.

Por primera vez aquí, llamamos para almorzar en nuestro camino a través de los Cotswolds en un día gris y húmedo. A los dos nos apetecía algo caliente y sabroso, así que opté por salchichas y puré en una rica salsa de carne que goteaba, mientras que mi esposo eligió pastel de carne y cerveza con verduras frescas. Ambos disfrutamos mucho de nuestra comida, que era apetitosa y presentada de forma atractiva. Los cafés después tenían buen sabor y se servían con un pequeño trozo de mantequilla. Perfecto. El camarero que trajo la comida a nuestra mesa fue cortés y amable, a diferencia de la señora que nos recibió cuando llegamos a la entrada del comedor: su bienvenida fue algo helada. Definitivamente iría aquí de nuevo. Hay un menú amplio y variado para elegir.

Primera vez parando aquí. Una linda experiencia. La habitación era cómoda, con bonitas almohadas y una hermosa ducha caliente. La recepcionista fue acogedora y muy informativa.Llegué después de una mañana de caminar hasta el restaurante. La comida en el almuerzo fue horrible por decir lo menos, lo cual fue una pena. Pedí tendones de pollo para empezar (el menú estipulaba 6 tendones pero solo recibí 4) pastel de pescado para mi esposo y yo para el almuerzo y era pequeño y apenas tenía pescado. Estaba destinado a venir con patatas nuevas, pero parecía que estaban fritas. Pidió tarta de dulce de azúcar para el postre pero nos dieron un brownie que, afortunadamente, fue increíble.Tenía pocas esperanzas para la cena. Queríamos ir a otro lugar pero lo dejamos demasiado tarde para reservar. Afortunadamente, la cena fue mucho mejor. La ensalada era agradable y mi marido tenía pollo de cazadores que disfrutó. El personal del restaurante es atento y trabajador. Parece que depende del chef que estaba trabajando. El desayuno también era bueno y una variedad de opciones en el menú. Las porciones eran más pequeñas de lo esperado, pero pedimos huevos extra y nos acomodaron, lo que agradecimos.Volvería de nuevo, pero posiblemente reserve con antelación para comer en otro lugar por si acaso (especialmente a la hora del almuerzo).

nuestro restaurante local favorito. siempre una cálida bienvenida por parte de nigel, Joanne y equipo excelente comida. el servicio es excelente y muy contento de ver que el personal no ha perdido de vista la importancia de los clientes debido a las nuevas reglas, etc. debido a la pandemia. definitivamente vale la pena el viaje y volveremos muy pronto

Qué pub tan encantador, paseamos a nuestros perros y luego vamos a tomar algo y comer algo. Siempre nos saluda un personal amable y acogedor. Ahora, con todo el PPE en su lugar, nos sentimos muy seguros. El jardín es encantador con muchas mesas, incluso con las reglas de distanciamiento social establecidas. La comida siempre es muy buena, el servicio es excelente. El personal siempre es muy amable y servicial. Si está considerando visitar, pero le preocupan las medidas de seguridad de Covid, no lo esté, todas están en su lugar. Te espera una cálida bienvenida y no te decepcionará.

First dinner out since lock and Joanne and Nigel never disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, good f&b, H&S processes and our lovely waitress Sophie catered to our every need. We’ll be back!

Excellent value for money perhaps a little tired around the edges but we would certainly stay there again.Restaurant serves good value pub food- the only thing is we suggest you avoid the nachos- they were disgusting. Thick and greasy - they spoilt the salsa and guacamole and repeated all evening.

We enjoyed a very nice weekend at the hotel. Upgraded to a superior room which had more space with chairs and settee. Food at the hotel was also good, we had evening meals and breakfast. Rooms were clean today and well maintained. The bar and restaurants had a good ambience.

Visité aquí con un amigo y tuve una muy buena comida, a un precio asequible con un excelente servicio en un entorno encantador. La música de fondo era apenas notable, lo cual fue algo bueno. El restaurante le dio a cada mesa mucho espacio para que pudieras tener una conversación razonable sin molestar a los demás. La comida era de un tamaño decente y estaba bien presentada, aunque parecía que el pescado estaba demasiado cocido, o al menos frito a una temperatura demasiado alta, pero al menos la masa estaba crujiente. El servicio fue excelente, educado, atento y atento. Sin duda recomendaría este lugar.

Teníamos una habitación muy bonita y cómoda con un baño grande. La habitación estaba muy limpia pero la iluminación no era buena. No podría haber leído mi libro en la habitación. Algunas habitaciones de los hoteles tienen una lámpara de pie que se puede mover a donde desea sentarse y leer: había dos sillones y un sofá que habrían sido buenos lugares para relajarse y leer.La comida era buena, aunque mi marido dijo que el gammon que había elegido era bastante salado. Esta fue nuestra cuarta estancia de Navidad en The Royal George. Como hemos llegado a esperar, el anfitrión de la mina, Nigel, fue acogedor y él y el resto del equipo hicieron que nuestra visita fuera muy agradable. En el lado negativo, no estábamos tan contentos con la habitación que habíamos seleccionado. Es muy decepcionante entrar en una habitación y encontrar las cortinas colgando sin clips para volver a colgarla. Al entrar, me pareció muy poco atractivo y, como resultado, preguntamos en recepción si era posible mudarse a otra habitación. Afortunadamente, había otra habitación disponible que era mejor. Sin embargo, incluso esta habitación tenía una bombilla fundida en el baño que dificultaba el afeitado, y también la cabecera de cuero de imitación estaba muy rayada de forma similar a una tarjeta de rascar después de usar una moneda para quitar la cubierta de un posible premio. No muy atractivo! También informamos un posible bloqueo en el fregadero ya que el agua tardaba mucho en vaciarse. Sin embargo, la habitación estaba limpia y el servicio de habitaciones excelente. Estas fueron fallas que deberían haberse rectificado antes de permitir la entrada de invitados. No dudamos en recomendar el hotel a otros y esperamos volver de nuevo en algún momento.

We have just left the Royal George after having an amazing walk along the Cotswold way, looking forward to breakfast. What a joke. We sat in the bar area, not another sole in their. Had to ask reception if anyone taking orders, eventually a waitress took our order. 30 minutes after ordering food came, but incorrect. Then another 10 minutes whilst the eggs got cold. To say the waitress was less than useless is an understatement, seemed she couldn’t wait to disappear. If this is what to expect when the hotel is empty, what’s it like if it gets busy, stay away.

Entiendo los problemas de mantener un edificio antiguo, pero se necesita un retoque de pintura en bastantes lugares. La comida estaba bien para un pub de Greene King, pero las bebidas son caras para la zona. No se nos informó sobre una oferta especial actual 6 por 2 pintas de cerveza real, después de haber mostrado nuestra tarjeta de membresía CAMRA con un 10% de descuento, por lo que cobraron más. La oferta más barata se descubrió al día siguiente cuando fuimos al cercano AirBalloon (también Greene King) donde la oferta se anunciaba claramente en el bar.

Nos detuvimos aquí por una noche para interrumpir el viaje de camino a Newquay. Me sorprendió gratamente lo fácil que fue encontrarlo desde la autopista y las cosas continuaron impresionando. La señora de recepción fue encantadora y nos dio buenos consejos sobre lugares para visitar localmente y un poco más lejos. Teníamos una habitación superior y nos encantó! ! Comimos en el restaurante por la noche y estaba delicioso, al igual que el desayuno también. Hubo una función en la noche que estuvimos y honestamente puedo decir que no nos molestó en absoluto. Definitivamente, este es un lugar donde nos encantaría volver a alojarnos.

me and my husband got married just over a week ago on saturday 28th september at the royal george hotel. we had such an amazing time! the best day we could have asked for! the day flowed really well - nigel, joanne and all the staff were brilliant and we didn’t have any worries throughout. the chapel for the ceremony is gorgeous and they have a lovely sized room for the reception upstairs. everyone enjoyed the food, really tasty and lots of it! we got married at 12 so we had a wedding breakfast and a buffet at night. rooms are lovely. my mum and i stayed the night before and me and my husband had the bridal suite at night. we are so happy and would highly recommend! thanks so much! jodie & paul.

This is a large family friendly pub (part of a chain) which has rooms for bed and breakfast. I stayed for one night on my Cotswold Way walk. My bedroom was large with a massive, comfy bed. New carpet but a cracked basin and very worn headboard (see pic). My room overlooked the car park and I couldn't hear the live music from downstairs, which was good because I'd asked for a quiet room. The restaurant staff were rushed off their feet, as were the breakfast staff. Could have done with more staff as I had to wait for 45 mins for my dinner which was hot, large, tasty, standard pub fare. I was asked if I wanted the GF or vegan menu, which I thought showed good practice.Receptionist staff were not the smiley sort but the young receptionist carried my case upstairs when I asked her for a hand. Thank you! The Royal George doesn't have a WiFi password but icloud. I didn't bother to set up an account. There were examples of wear and tear all over the building and this would be my main criticism.

As a coeliac I have found The Royal George really good in the past and visited tonight to try their new menu. I ordered a delicious sounding slow-cooked lamb with mash and seasonal vegetables, but it arrived with cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets and a huge Yorkshire pudding. I questioned the waitress:

We called in here today after walking from pain speak to the Royal George. We thought the entrance was fine, very welcoming, clean. We used the toilet straightaway, and it was clean, with hot water to wash those dirty hands after walking all that way.

Called in when the munchies hit around midday time. Not disappointed. Good food, nice ambience and good servcie

We've been to this fabulous hotel several times and it never disappoints us. We arrived a little early but this wasn't a problem we had a very pleasant welcome. The room was clean and tidy although a new headboard would be good. The bar are restaurant is comfortable the prices are competitive and the service is excellent. Joanne and Nigel and their team are there to make sure you're well looked after. Both breakfast and dinners were really good and cater for all tastes. Fabulous stay thank you!!

From the outside this place looks like it could be a wonderful country pub. But when you get inside it's large but has a grubby feel, sticky tables and carpets. I've been here a couple of times over a period of 3 years, but it still seems tired. It's part of a chain so meals are not freshly cooked to order. But I guess it's ok to just stop off before home for a pint. Every time I have been here the bar staff have always been friendly and inviting.

Not impressed by the food. It’s seems to be on a par with a ‘Hungry Horse’ which is sad because the potential is so much more.

We decided to pop in for Sunday Dinner after the Posh Car Boot Sale in Birdlip. I am a Saga Possibilities member and we could get 20% off the total bill with a code I had. My wife and I had the Roast Beef Dinner and it was delicicious. Probably the best one we have had in the last 10 years. The servings were huge and the Beef melted in the mouth. The Yorkshire pudding, mash, roast potatoes and fresh veg were also fantastic. The service was also brilliant and professional. All in all well worth a visit. We had 2 Roast Beef Dinners, 2 pints of San Miguel, 1 large glass of a lovely Merlot, a pint of blackcurrent and soda, and a pot of tea with a small dessert. Total with discount was £32. What a bargain. We will be back. The five rating is well deserved.

Typical Cotswold country Inn, lots of character inside and out. Walks locally with fantastic views. We met up with friends for lunch and stayed the night.Good room King bed was very comfortable. We were on the first floor and there is no lift, so I struggled with my suitcase up the stairs; no help was offered by watching staff. [I have to be careful what I lift following an operation]. A bit slippery in the shower over the bath, could do with a support handle. Huge dining area and bar, good food. I asked for their allergy book but found pages missing and misfiled, helpful bar staff confirmed my old standby of beer battered fish n chips would be dairy free. When the food was brought to the table I questioned the tartare sauce and the answer came back, only just in time, that it did contain milk! Breakfast cooked fresh and they did have sunflower spread. Dogs are welcome in the bar area. As with many old establishments it would benefit from a lick of paint, but it does add to the character.
