Rowntrees Cafe in Bury

Been going to this cafe since 2005, most weeks for a breakfast. Went yesterday it was closed ?. What's happening has it closed down for good.

Amazing service very polite and the food was amazing well worth the money quality food will be returning delicious 😋

😊 Had to wait for a few minutes before we could get a table, but then it was Lunch time on a Wednesday. Once seated it didn't take long for our Brews and food to be brought out to us... Can't fault it, the staff were very efficient and the food was Delicious 😋, highly recommend a visit if you are in Bury... 💕 The Gad Abouts

Never disappointed when I come here, haven't been in almost 3 years! Came back today had a lovely full English and a coffee. Absolutely lovely staff.

Just wanted something quick, was passing by.. Wasn't great.. Should have stuck to our regular chippy.. Felt like we had school dinners .. Fish was OK but chips was terrible.

Been in the Cafe quite a few times (very handy when you are out shopping for the day). Always very impressed with the range of meals, and very good prices. Good, traditional meals and you get plenty. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

It is very expensive to eat in, dirty tables and floors, I'm sure I was deliberately overcharged as not a regular customer. Suffice to say I will never go there again and recommend that you don't waste your hard earned their either.

I brought my family here on the weekend, from the moment we walked in to the time we left was a great experience. Queues of people inside waiting to get a table always is a positive. I ordered cod fish chips curry peas an 2 muffins with drinks. Absolutely delicious food and very reasonably priced by far one of the best chippies you can go too. The staff were super friendly an nice and Il definately be back in the future. Keep up the great work guys.

Pleasantly surprised - will be back and I don’t say that often about many eateries. Every plateful in our party of five was 10 out of 10! Fresh meals, served hot and good size portions. The fish, steak puddings, chips and mushy peas, all perfect. Gravy was spot on too. Individual preferences catered for which is always a bonus. Hot drinks were good too. If you are looking for an extremely clean environment to dine and chat without feeling rushed this chippy is the place to visit. Staff were super friendly, all of them. I can’t recommend it enough.

The cafe was taken over a couple of years ago and has been updated. The food is always a very high standard. The best fish and chips around. Everything is freshly cooked and delicious! One to go to definitely!

I can't find a bad word to say about this cafe. Always top notch food with great service and friendly staff. The fish is delicious and the new paninis for a lighter lunch are lovely. You must give it a try!

Just been there with my mum nanna sister and fella and the food was horrible it used too be really nice but it was disgusting and the shmoo milkshake was like water and it's meant too be a thick milkshake that wouldn't go there again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone please note I absolutely HATE IT THERE!!!!

Went here today for dinner . Fish and chips was excellent my husband loved it .I had bacon sandwich lovely and crispy ..the staff are great .lovely and friendly .had a good laugh with them great sense of humour . and the place is lovely and clean . definitely go again

Unlike the negative comment below mine is more positive ! First visit to the area and found a great little place ,clean and tidy maybe a little crammed but overall excellent service and lovely food which filled our hunger ! Meal 1 Fish and chips big pot of mushy peas meal 2 a mountain of freshly cooked chips with 2 eggs 2 bacon beans and 2 sausages😁 every seat was taken up so it shows people know where to go for value for money ! We will return x

I can honestly say after years of working away and frequenting a lot of cafes ect .. this is probably in the top 3 worst breakfasts i have had . On arriving . Clean and tidy walked past the serving counters and entered the dining room at the rear of establishment . Just as i was sitting with my wife the waitress was asked by a customer to remake a cup of coffee that he was returning as it arrived cold . . Then we ordered. My wife is vegetarian. But no vegetarian option on the full english so ordered something else . I ordered the full English with a large tea.( dread to think how small the standard is ) Then my breakfast arrived . Straight away i noticed the sausage and knew how it was going to taste . Filler and reformed meat . The type you could get a 100 for 50p in quik save in the 80s Hard to swallow at the best of times . Especially when you have no tea left . Bacon must of come off the fattest pig in the abattoir . Egg threatened with a frying pan . Toast . When you picked it up with your fingers it hit your wrist.. beans half decent. Mushrooms lovely. At £ 5.10 just for that ... ( tes not included) I'd avoid at all costs . Far better within walking distance.

Friendly helpful staff and food is good too with both normal and healthy options to eat. The seating are is good too

Been going to this restaurant for the past 6 years and has been consistent with their food and prices ever since x staff are extremely friendly and remember us. It's like extended family x so reasonable

Brilliant staff who are always upbeat and chirpy, they love babies too! I've never been in and not smiled at the service I've received, a fantastic chippy with a great atmosphere and lovely food, plenty of choices here as well. Seating is also available.

I have been frequenting this central cafe for a while whilst out shopping in Bury and since the new management have taken over the changes are noticeable for the better. The fish and chips are delicious, really fresh and lovely cod, and the new chicken burger meal is good to, really yummy and good value. The cafe is always clean and the staff welcoming. The lady chef always delivers gorgeous food and it’s a relaxing place to be in. It’s somewhere I will continue to visit for my Saturday afternoon lunch.

Friendly staff, a lot cleaner since it’s been take over, always busy when I’ve been in but never had to wait to long for a table. The food is fantastic, well worth a visit

The service was shocking. My friend is diabetic and what she asked for sounded like too much trouble. The lady who served us was sarcastic and very unhelpful. The breakfast was very small for what we paid. And they still expected a Christmas tip

Welcoming staff in a perfectly situated cafe/chippy. Prices are quite high but the food was delivered quickly and to great standard. Plenty of topping on the jacket spud! The seating area itself was cramped and bleak with a horrendously loud door that needs attention.

Good food nice atmosphere worth a visit.

Took a chance on the all day breakfast considering the cafe is basically a fish and chip shop. Wasn’t too disappointed but looking at all the reviews on fish and chip dinners will try that next time

Liz and the gang are fantastic. Always made to feel more than just a paying customer. They always call you by your first name if they know it. Service is fast, from first sitting down to order taken, drinks brought and then food delivered. They will cater to your requirements wherever possible. It can get very busy especially on market days (Wed, Fri and Sat), but the level of service has never faltered. It is a suitable location for disabled diners to take a break while out shopping. Toilet facilities are on site too. It is a working Fish n Chip shop too so you can do takeouts. Wonderful place, even if only for a hot drink and banter with Liz.

I have been here many many times and each and every time the service is perfect, Although sometimes a little pricey for some items, it is really a lovely place to eat and the food is delicious every single time!

We have eaten in this cafe on several occasions over the last few years and wouldn’t choose anywhere else to eat in Bury for lunch. It is very popular and sometimes have to wait for a table as it is so popular, especially on market days. We visited yesterday and there were six people waiting but we were seated in under ten minutes. Every member of staff is very hardworking and so cheerful and efficient. Within a few minutes we had our order taken and our drinks served within minutes. Our fish and chips were cooked to order and served quickly and piping hot. The fish was cooked perfectly, golden crispy and light batter with soft mouth watering fish, crispy golden chips with mushy peas for myself and baked beans for my husband.

Arrived with hangover and was restore to 70% feeling Human by the time I left. Staff were efficient, experienced and had good sense of humour. Excellent competition for the downmarket multinational union breaker nearby. Very popular with locals. 80)

I brought my daughter chips from here and as the portion was quite large she couldn't hold the tray and spilt all the chips outside, I went back in to purchase another portion and the manager offered them for free, I covered the cost via the tip box but I thought it was such a kind gesture, very hard to get such good customer service these days, will defo be recommending. I often pop in for a portion of two of yummy chips and the staff are always very welcoming and friendly.

Este solía ser un buen "fish and chips". Pedimos a la señora qué tipo de pescado que era y ella no sabía, ella dijo que no usamos el bacalao o abadejo, ya que era caro. Era normal, pero podría decir el pescado congelado. También tenía una patata chaqueta con frijoles y que era bueno pero no tome mucho de habilidad para hacer una patata de la chaqueta. Por otro lado, el personal era muy servicial y acogedor. No estoy seguro de si este "fish and chips" ha sido tomada, pero definitivamente no es tan buena como solía ser.

I know its a very good chippy which unfortunately does not open late but they do fantastic jacket potatoes which I always have. No matter how busy the restaurant is the staff are always quick to clear and clean the tables and get you seated.

First time we had been to bury yesterday, went to the market fantastic. We was thinking about having lunch we was walking past the rowntree cafe. Has soon as we walk in the staff was friendly and the food was great would go again.

La urgencia para chips de "fish and chips" estaba llamando y heráclito en el momento aparecimos. La comida fue decepcionante esta vez! Las patatas fritas eran blancas y los guisantes eran duras... demasiado ocupado para conseguir la atención camarera como ella estaba ocupado hablando de su nuevo corte de pelo con otro miembro del personal.

Fuimos allí hoy 03/09, como solemos hacer cuando vamos a enterrar, la comida era buena y abundante. Tuve porción de patatas fritas y una cerveza y marido había pescado, patatas fritas, guisantes y salsa y cerveza. Total para 2 comidas y bebidas £8,80. Volveremos la próxima semana!!

By far the best town centre Chip shop and café. Food is very nice and filling. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money.

After visiting the fabulous Bury market with my husband we decided to have a quick bite to eat and came across a very cheap and very very cheerful cafe / chip shop we were greeted and seated very quickly it did seem afterwards that our timing was just right as whilst we were eating there was a lot of customers waiting to be seated , and they were very happy to wait a lot of them were regular customers and were greeted by name this proved to us it was a very friendly place to eat , now for the food simple homecooked quick and delicious , I had the homemade mince and onion plate pie with chips peas and gravy and my husband had fish chips and peas the fish had the lightest batter I have ever seen and my husband let me taste it I will definitely be having fish next time it was unbelievably light fresh and well cooked , my pie was delicious and I would recommend it but if your a fish lover then you are in for a treat , do not expect modern shop fittings this is basic very clean and the staff work really really hard to help you get seated as soon as possible the turn over of customers is very fast but it does not take anything away from the delicious food we loved it and this will be our go to place when ever we visit Bury Market again !

Go here every week when we nip into Bury on a Saturday morning. Friendly service, quick and great value breakfast. Fantastic start to the day.

I visit Rowntrees two or three times a week, and cannot praise it enough. I have never had any complaints whatsoever about the food, it is always served piping hot.The staff are always very friendly, especially as they work under a lot of pressure at busy times, like today, prices are reasonable, overall very good.If I might make a polite suggestion, when the shop is busy, and people are queuing for take away food, they should queue alongside the counter in order, instead of all over the place in a huddle just near the entrance doors, not only is it very untidy, but a recipe for arguments amongst customers as to who was first.However, as I said, overall first class.

I ordered fish and peas, and for my grandson sausage chips and beans. I have to say my grandson did eat all his. Mine was just awful. First the cup o tea arrived. I like my tea strong, hardly any milk. It was really, really weak, very milky. So just thought it s my fault, should have said. But shouldn't they have asked? The fish??? I gag now, just thinking about it. Maybe whole it was 1/4 thick. Very, very thin. But it had been filleted open. So was 1/8 thick. It seemed full of water. At first I thought it was cooked from frozen and hadn't been cooked properly, but it was white. Like no other fish I had ever tasted. There was no batter on it that I had ever tasted before. Definitely not chip shop batter. The only thing I can think, is that they coated it in some sort of flour and deep fried it. I managed two bits of fish, it really was just awful. Slimy and so very, very thin. Just awful. The fish cost £3.25. I'd ordered mushy peas with it. They cost a£1 uneatable. My grandsons beans were fine. The sausage, he ate it........I should have stopped him. I still feel guilty not stopping him. Deep fried fat!!! His chips were hot, but a lot of "eyes" on them. It was a child's portion. It was a quick, cheap meal. But in total I paid almost £9 for a really disgusting meal. I cannot believe the produce cost more than £0.75 p in total. In fairness I have to say the place had plenty of people there, they couldn't all be first timers like me. Yes it was only £9, but I don't think I have ever eaten worse. The same amount next door in McDonalds, would have given us decent quality, fast service, clean surroundings. And I really think someone should check that fish. What on earth was it? Never ever again.

I use this place quite regular and never had a problem , The staff are Friendly and they seem to care about their customers.Reading the previous review I cannot imagine this place doing what they said about "picking food up and serving it"Food quality is fantastic and is cooked to order and more importantly to how you want it .Would recommend to anybody

I have visited this café and the branch in the Manchester Arndale Centre many times in the past and have never had any complaints. It is a traditional chip shop with dining room at the rear, situated in the town centre next to McDonalds and just outside the main indoor shopping centre. It is popular with pensioners and they do a pensioners special on Mondays and Tuesdays.However that said on my visit yesterday I was most disappointed I ordered Fish chips and mushy peas - Big Mistake, the fish was cooked to order and looked to have been well cooked but tasted disgusting and not like any fish I have tasted before, the chips were again well cooked but were tasteless and the peas didn’t taste like peas.Someone had dropped food on the floor a girl picked it up and put paper over the mess two other couples were seated at the table with this paper under their feet.A small child spilt what looked like pink milk on the floor, when his mother asked to use a mop she was told they do not have one and was giver a roll of blue paper to mop it up with. One wonders what they use to do their cleaning?Sorry Rowntree’s but next time I am in Bury, I will eat next door in McDonalds or Lloyds No1 or Weatherspoon’s, both nearby
