Route23 Diner in Mid Sussex

Have used this cafe for many years, but I'm afraid it's gone down hill now. Food wasn't bad but not good. Staff were good. Toilets a bloody mess, very dirty .Scrap yard next door with rats running about. We will not stop here any more.

Excellent service ! Spotless diner Chef was friendly Food was exceptionally good! Hot with a lovely mug of tea or coffee and bread and butter free with every set breakfast! We both had a breakfast and it was huge

Good quality food and nice coffee! Staff very pleasant and large selection to choose from. Only just reopened and deffinately worth a stop if your looking for a cafe 🙂

Presentation is 95% of good food, I never thought a fry up could be made to look so special, it made me want to eat it. Thank you so much. See you next time in the area.

Just visited this cafe with a friend after a long drive and can honestly say they have the best pancakes and the staff were very friendly.

We stopped here en route into Brighton instead of a hotel breakfast. It's small, quirky, and great food. Everything was cooked fresh and tasted great and possibly the best hash browns I have eaten in many years. Well worth the stop and highly recommended.

Perfect and absolutely lovely breakfast at a great price. All cooked well and staff very accommodating. Will definitely visit again.

Stoped here on the12th Dec as was advised that the diner was a good place to stop off ..on the way to Brighton... we had the full breakfast BUT the plates were cold so the food (eggs) and ( fried bread) got cold real quick ...no excuse not to have the plates over the hob to keep warm..."one previous review stated the fried bread was greasy" & it was . so that got left on the Cold plate... the rest of the food stayed warm enough to eat saussages.. toms . Hash browns ..toast..and and very good coffee .the only thing was that fried bread and cold plate hence only 4 out of 5

Stopped off for breakfast for the first time after driving past on numerous visits to Brighton. I can honestly say I won’t be going anywhere else! Fab breakfast and friendly staff. Clean and freshly cooked - great start to the day!

Came here on the way to Brighton. Passed it many times and often thought about a breakfast here. We wasn’t disappointed, absolutely spit on, freshly cooked and service with a smile. Great decor in the place. We will definitely return when we come back to Brighton.

Stopped for a breakfast before getting into Brighton. Ordered a mini breakfast. The place was cold we had to put our coats back on. The fried bread was actually still soaked in oil and very greasy. I don’t think I would have a meal there again.

The best breakfast in Brighton..Eggs,Bacon cooked perfectly in friendly atmosphere.Excellent value for money with plenty of parking space.

This diner used to be fantastic until the owner sold up and the new people took over, before you used to get real chips, fresh salad and decent burgers, now however you get frozen chips, cheap grissly burgers with just a bit of crappy processed cheese on top, they’ve parked cars in the car park to make it look like they’re busy but you go in and it’s empty and now I know why, I’ll never go back again, total waste of money!!!!

This little cafe by the side of the A23 has a layby and a carpark. The food is great. Southbound A23. Highly recommended

Cuando leo comentarios contrastantes, siempre me pregunto si estoy comiendo en el mismo lugar. Me detuve entre dos sitios de construcción que estaba visitando ese día por "brunch". Básicamente no había desayunado ese día, y tenía hambre.Cuando veo hígado y tocino en el menú, me hace sonreír, es una de mis comidas favoritas que no consigo en casa muy a menudo porque a la esposa no le gusta. El único problema es que será bueno o malo. We visited a few weeks ago and were served really good coffee by a very helpful and friendly lady. We went there again today to be greeted by a new gentlemen who made one of the worst cup of coffees that we've had for a long time. A white coffee was mostly warm milk with just the merest hint of any coffee flavour and a "cappucino" was the same with some cocoa powder sprinkled on top. While there we also visited complete confusion over another diner who asked for a breakfast without beans or tomatoes but got them anyway and then when he asked for those to be removed the tomatoes were taken off but not the beans. He gave up and just left the beans!A disappointing visit but at least the guy serving was still friendly, although seemingly not sure of what he was doing.

Breakfasts are chose your own or pick from a set choiced menu and everything is cooked fresh to order - plenty of seats and tea/coffee is included in the breakfasts Good staff who are very friendly and helpful

We visit the diner always on our way to Eastbourne. The food is always great Reasonable prices and very good service. We would thoroughly recommend

Been here many times just for the little fried potatoes and made special journeys to get there, all cooked fresh in front of you, the menu is quite extensive so theres lots to choose from to help the hunger pains, well worth a stop on the A23 coming into Brighton.

You really only approach here from the north as it's on the southbound carriageway (Look for the signs just after the BP garage and swing into the service road). I wouldn't be a frequent diner if there wasn't a decent menu with decent prices.

Good food here that is either a set menu style of breakfasts or you can choose your own from a selection - eg an 8 item breakfast including tea/coffee and bread and butter is approx £6:79

Ate breakfast here today. We’ve eaten here before and it was ok. Clean and tidy cafe, nice decor good atmosphere but found the food a bit bland this time. Still worth a visit though!

Paramos en este lugar para el desayuno antes de un día de entrenamiento de la CCP, recomiendo encarecidamente el gut buster a más de £7 tienes 2 huevos, bacon, salchichas de 3 2 plum, frijoles, tomates, patatas, morcilla, 2 pan de esta receta se acompaña con taza de mantequilla n té o café! ! ! ! No dejes que te engañe la camiones fuera, sabemos que cuando su relación calidad n alrededor. Este lugar no es un boliche, pero una gran relación calidad-precio. Todo recién cocinado y muy amable personal/ambiente, volveremos cuando en la zona de brighton eso es seguro.

Mixed views, sure its a heart attack on a plate sort of place, and Breakfast is a good choice or a evening meal with your friends. Maybe not a place to visit too often.

They have their own car park here and free wifi which does connect if you persevereThe food all comes with tea or coffee and bread and butter, cooked fresh and no oil or grease in the plate as well as being laid out so well and it is so tastyWell worth a visit here - recommended - enjoy

Situated at the Brighton end of the southbound A23 in a large layby , this little place is open from 6am to 2pm & serves meals cooked to order , I called in for breakfast & there is a varied menu to choose from, I chose the full English at £6.39 inc coffee , which I thought was reasonable for the area. As a lorry driver I find that places such as these are few & far between , I'd definitely call again .

My family stopped here by chance, 5 off us. We had breakfasts and burgers with drinks. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. very clean establishment with good wifi. Clean toilets and lots of parking. This is a very well run Cafe and good value, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Having driven by for years I finally managed to stop for lunch with my daughter. We can normally eat quite well but these portions were so hefty even we were defeated! And that was after the staff had offered to substitute the beans for salad, which we took them up on. As roadside diners go I'd say it's one of the best we've encountered. Foodwise there's no fancy frills, so if you're after a good old fashioned fry up this is a great place to go. The decor is quirky too, all lending to a good atmosphere. The bonus is that you can park and eat at a thoroughly reasonable price before getting caught up in the maelstrom of Brighton.

After 10 years of driving past we finally had a chance to call in. We enjoyed a good cup of coffee and an excellent bacon roll. The diner offers a wide range of breakfasts and from what we could see the quality is very good. Definitely worth a stop off as you approach Brighton, and if you are in a car rather than a truck there's a car park just on the far side of the diner.

Stopped in at Route 23 on my way to a meeting and glad i did, just have to remember its there as it will be easy to shoot past it. Had the full breakfast and wasn't disappointed , good freshly cooked food that kept me going for the day. , would i go back, bloody right I will be.Nearly forgot to mention the friendly staff, thanks guys.

Stopped with the family here for a great snack on the way to Brighton. Fantastic food and all of the highest quality. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It was a real joy to stop and have a break. Will be returning, but do be careful not to miss the layby entrance.

Stopped here for the first time after leaving Gatwick Airport and thought I would try a Vegetarian BreakfastThey do a number of set different breakfasts here but you can also choose 6 items, tea/coffee with bread and butter for £5:99 or £6:79 for 8 items - see photos.The portions are a good size and it is all cooked fresh but served fairly quickly with no grease on the plates at allAlthough it is named a diner, the Restuarant is very clean and the staff friendly - they also take either cash or cards and have toilet facilities which are clean and tidyThey have a 5 rating for food hygiene and their own car parkQuirky decor inside but this gives it a good homely feelRecommended as would definitely stop here againEnjoy

When I first came here about 8 years ago they played a Tom and Jerry cartoon on the TV, when I came back for the first time last week it was still being played. Nothing changes here, it's a weird time warp baby. As for the food, yeah it's a good piece of fodder, not a bad price, and the waiting staff are pretty on the ball, if not a bit too eager. Good to come here whilst in the stages of a hangover and freak yourself out.

Poor quality food and very expensive won't be visiting again there are far better and cheaper cafes close by.

A great little diner on the A23 just before you get into Brighton. Has a great feel with so much to look art on the walls whilst you tuck into a great full English ! Friendly staff and not bad prices - well worth a pit stop

Every compliment previously written about this cafe is true. It's a fine place. Great to see that they offer soya milk for the Dairy Intolerent so the next stage would be to offer Gluten Free bread. It's also true that you could miss the place due to lack of early warning signage. The only thing that I would like to see in places like this is provision for us fatties who don't want a cooked breakfast every day. The offer of cereal or porridge would make this place completely outstanding. Otherwise it's perfect.

Came in with my two kids for a late breakfast and fell in love instantly. The decor is awesome and the staff are brilliant !!! The food is top notch and portion sizes are very good. It's a great diner for families and also a brilliant biker spot for some good tucker and a warming brew. Will be coming back for sure !!!!

As a vegi I don't often get a good fry up but I get an awesome one here. They even keep soya milk for my partner. Lots of choice, great coffee and snacks if you are looking for something healthier.

A mate from work suggested meeting at this place as he had been here before. Had a cooked breakfast which was really good (I have had many a cooked breakfast so know a good one). Staff were very friendly and didn't mind us hanging around for a bit drinking tea whilst working on laptop. Will be visiting again when next in area.

We stopped off at" Route 23" this Saturday during torrential rain,all we can do now is "rain down compliments" on such a great cafe.Easily the best breakfast in a 10mile radius-unless you know better !,now there's a challenge.Just the right ammount of food on the plate,good quality and cooked to perfection.If you're on your way into Brighton and feeling peckish don't bother stopping off before ,make sure you stop at Pycombe just before the junction of A23 -A27 ,"Route 23" is number 1

I eat at this cafe at least 3 days a week. The food is fantastic the place is spotless clean. The staff are brilliant. And the chef really cares about his food. A great place to chill out and eat. And great value for money. Steve F.

This road side greasy spoon cafe/diner is the best there is. It is not well sign posted so is very easy to miss. If travelling south on the A23 it is situated on the outskirts of Brighton. There is a small sign at the road side at the entrance to the layby which one must enter to get to the diner. If you are travelling at the road speed limit you will spot the sigh and then hurtle past it too fast to stop without causing an accidet. So beware as soon as you see a sign that you are getting close to Brighton slow down and keep your eyes peeled.Once in the layby the cafe is at the southern end of it. It is a little oasis of greasy spoon heaven with an American Routee 66 theme. It is spotlessly clean with very friendly staff. The place is decorated with music and motorcycle memorabilia, mostly with an American feel.The diner boasts an impressive array or set breakfasts from simple sausage bacon and egg to a real belly buster that would probably defeat the most gluttonous. One may also construst one's own plate of fare from the extensive menu of single items. All are prepared on a griddle before your very eyes. Once cooked, your plate arrives at your table in the capable hands of your waitress. Uniquely, the plate of food looks exactly the same as the carefully staged advert photos that one often spots in glossy mags or other restaurants. There will not be a drop of fat or grease anywhere to be seen. It also tastes as good as it looks!If you are going to Brighton then stopping at this diner should be made compulsory as it really is that good.Be aware though, the place closes at 2pmPrice wise, it is fairly good. A large breakfast will set you back about £6 to £7 including drink and bread & butter.

Great find. Definitely the best diner Ive been to. Was travelling and had a craving for a real breakfast brunch to fill a gap. Great value for money, food hot, freshly cooked. Great portions. Do the add ons for no extra i.e. bread and butter. Companion had the mega breakfast and said it was the best diner breakfast he'd had. Very friendly staff. Warm and welcoming. Nothing seemed too much for them when it came to service including the cook. Cant wait to go back

I stopped her with my husband, parents and brother on route to the New Forest in August 2014, i'm local to Brighton but I've never stopped here before. It was super clean, lovely decorations, old bikes and pictures which kept the boys entertained, we all ordered a cooked breakfast and drinks, eggs were cooked fresh, everything was very delicious. I would defo recommend this please and would visit here again.

Stopped today at Route23. The food was excellent. There is ample parking. The prices are cheaper than brighton, brillant to get out of town as it just 15 minutes from Brighton .I Would definitely recommend a visit to Route 23.

HGV Driver, been going to Route 23 for 3 years now. Not sure about other comments. Great staff and good food, owner asked me to move my lorry further down to allow access and was glad to do so as got free coffee. Will be going back soon.

Stopped for meal today service was poor food was at best poor shall not stop here again and wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy . Must be better in Brighton keep going .

Have used this restaurant many times over the years, when it changed from Robo's to Route 23a few years ago I was worried that the quality may suffer - it didn't!! The breakfasts are excellent; great food and at sensible prices with quick service.

Seen it many times but have always driven by, but not this morning, my stomach told me I needed food, so in I went.Very easy to find on the A23 south, plenty of parking space.Opens at 6:30am till 2pm.The place was spotless, endless motorbike memorabilia to look at whilst waiting for breakfast or watch the news on TV.The staff and the service were excellent. Enjoyed a 'medium' breakfast that consisted of two eggs, two bacon, mushrooms, chips, beans or tomato fresh or tinned with a thick slice of bread and butter, plus a large mug of coffee for £7:39. Maybe a bit pricy but everything was top quality.The cafe had a very good turn over in the short time I was there, so they must be doing something right.

Having driven past here pretty much daily for many years, we decided to try it for breakfast, and we loved it!Great service throughout, perfect portions, tasty food, just what we were after!The place is done up really well, very interesting rock memorabilia and world clocks. It was very busy, a constant flow of people arriving and leaving. Loads of bikers.The only downside was it's very easy to miss when you are driving towards it - we witnessed several bikes, trikes and cars attempting to enter from the exit, (reversing onto the A23!!!) More signs needed!!Look forward to our next visit.

Always a good breakfast, the motorbike theme is fab, so are the world clocks, one can sit and day dream about far off places.

This diner/café has a lovely atmosphere, with it's Route 66 motorbike theme there's so much to look at and see including a real Harley Davidson! The service is spot on with owners Heather and Dawi really attentive and friendly, the food is fantastic, so yummy but brilliant value for money. Route 23 is easily accessible on the A23 with free parking. There's so much variety including bike nights even with live bands! This is brilliant for not only biking fantatics but everyone as it's such a great atmosphere. 5 stars!!

Two couples in our 40's stopped here on way into Brighton for weekend. Amazing cafe with movie memorabilia and life size Harley Davison!!!! Great fantastic themed cafe in a great location. Very good choice of breakfasts and dinners very reasonably priced and well presented and cooked. Staff were very attentive and service was efficient. This is a clean and friendly establishment. Will I visit again? YES Can't wait for next visit. Owners Heather and Dawi are a pleasure to meet.

A very friendly cafe with a motorcycling theme. Good food, clean toilets. All you could ask for. Met up with 7 mates, food served quick from a large choice of breakfasts. Been several times and quality is always there.

Route 23 certinaly well worth a visit, all staff very friendly happy to talk or answer any questions, a very friendly atmosphear.Food is very good and well presented.Very good and intresting memorabilia in music, films, and motorsports,displayed all round plus offer free WI FI, First vist was last year, and standard has been kept up with improvements.Have to disagree on a privious reviewer on condition of toilet, In my experiencestandard cleanliness and hygiene is given upmost importance and attension.Certinaly will be re-visiting.

Stopped here for breakfast on the way to Brighton. Fantastic food. The breakfast baguette was huge, freshly cooked and very tasty. The staff were polite and helpful. No question would stop again every-time I visit Brighton.

We stopped at Route23 for breakfast on the way to Brighton yesterday. The breakfast was just brilliant. Loved the sound of the motor bikes roaring off into the distance. A really good start to a brilliant day.

I highly recommend bikers and non bikers alike to try this great little diner. Being a biker myself i'd heard about the place from other riders. You feel like you are walking into a biker friendly café on route 66 ( I should know as I've ridden it) There was ample parking and I was able to park my Harley right by the door. The interior is biker themed but done in such a way that it appeals to everybody. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the portions were more than enough and priced competitively. It is a fairly new venture so there is work in progress. It has all the makings of a famous biker landmark meeting point and stop off point. Very impressed and will make route 23 a regular refreshment stop from now on.

An early Saturday morning stop for breakfast found us in this delightful transport cafe with a difference. With a heavy bikers theme we found the food freshly cooked and a good diverse choice of grub!. For the portion sizes great value for money and fantastic attentive staff. The food area was clean and there is ample parking.

Covering a fair amount of mileage and having a complete aversion to motorway service foods when there's an alternative, traditional transport cafes often get my patronage. Yesterday, en route to Brighton, I visited Route 23 for breakfast.This cafe is clean, friendly and has a menu which contains the usual suspects at fairly typical prices. I had a standard cooked breakfast which was well presented and served promptly. The only downside was the fact that there was a distinct taste of stale cooking oil which, although not bad enough to be worthy of a complaint, was rather disappointing.Other than the above, the only other issue I had was that the gents loo was either a case of 'work in progress' or 'haven't got round to replacing the missing tiles yet. Again, not a major issue. but one that needs addressing, nevertheless.Will I go back? Probably, but in the hope that on second visit I have no reason not to give it 5-stars.BTW, wi-fi would be useful.

A very nice transport cafe on the outskirts of Brighton on the A23 hence the name, good food and very reasonable prices, we were very impressed with the cleanliness and the attentive staff, we will call in again the next time we travel to Brighton and I am sure we will still be pleased with this cafe.
