Rotunda Tavern in Cheltenham

Been a few times to this pub and each time it's been a lovely. Great atmosphere, great staff. I haven't eaten there but others have said it's lovely. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Lucky enough to find a seat outside on the pavement. But nice pub. Good service with a member of staff taking orders outside and the pub accepting cash!

Great location for a pub, prices are reasonable too unlike the bars in the area. The owner is very friendly and likewise staff and fellow drinkers too.

A very good range of draft beers and a great atmosphere. Outdoor seating at the back and covered outdoor seating at the front, lots of sport on TV. Its a proper pub and a definite go to either on the way into town or as a destination pub on a night out

Given its location, this pub is incongruous to its surroundings. On our visit it had tired fixtures, a disappointing choice of beers contrary to its claims, and overall insalubrious.

This was the surprise of my week in Cheltenham for the Jazz Festival. I had ignored it on my previous visits because it never really came up on the beer radar but was passing by and saw four ales advertised on the exterior board and decided to take a look and glad I did.
My primary reason for visiting was because of its location dead opposite Montpellier gardens, which is the hub for the Jazz Festival with its three main concert venues and the large festival bar. The Festival Bar this year was sponsored and run by Purity, and as much as I am partial to a pint of UBU, I’m not going to pay the Festival price of £6.70 a pint. 
The pub has a traditional dark wood panelled interior which was formerly two rooms but now opened up into a main bar area and a connected room opposite. Each section is wooden floored and has a flat screen tele for the sports. It looks quite lived in in parts but the seating areas are comfortable.
It has two vistas, the main entrance, which is on the main road facing the gardens and benefits from a large pavement area which is utilised as the outside space for the pub. It’s a lovely sun trap spot but you do get the world and his wife walking past. Then there is a second back entrance from Montpellier Street behind and this side has four outside bench seats along the pavement section.
The bar supports four handpumps and during my visits Salopian Oracle and Otter Bitter were on all the time and Goffs Jester no 4 NZ Pale Ale, Goffs Cheltenham Gold, Butcombe Haka and Stroud Brewery Tom Long rotated on the other two. The Salopian Oracle was a fine pint and I tended to stay on this but did try the Otter Bitter and the Goffs Jester no 4 which were perfectly fine but not to my taste as much as the oracle.
This is a very friendly pub and is epitomised by who I assumed to be the Landlord and Landlady who are helpfulness and cheeriness personified and a clearly running a decent wet led pub (the only food on offer are toasted Paninis and baps). 
The only negative for me was that the Gents are in the basement down a very steep set of steps and after a couple I decided to use the toilets in the Festival site rather than risk the descent.

this is a proper pub , nothing fancy , good atmosphere very friendly staff , whats not to like Beers were well kept and friendly locals .

The pub is iconic and in a great location beers normally really well kept and good selection and a busy bustle atmosphere. The guys tgat run it are just off the mark of having a great pub but I’m sorry to say they are just too scruffy and unkempt like they don’t belong. The sound system is really poor but they gave it quite loud and it’s just all a bit grim. When you run a pub you are on stage but although friendly they really need to just up the quality of there own presentation and be more customer focussed rather than attend to there own clique .., it’s not bad, they are not bad people but it’s so nearly great!

We called in here for drinks with our pup. The staff were loveky particularly the landlord. He was so attentive to everyone. Asking if they needed drinks to save them visiting the bar. There’s a good atmosphere. There was music and the racing. A good balance. He came and gave our dog treats. When we left he was genuinely concerned about advising us where to get the bus. We’d come back to this pub just because of him.

Love it here, can't praise this place enough.

Lovely malty bitter, real pork scratchings, friendly welcome. Were quite happy for me to work on my laptop, gave me wifi, and told me where to find a power socket. Recommended.

The Rotunda is my favourite Cheltenham pub. There is outside seating at the front and the back. It has a gorgeous bohemian canopy at the front which the council want taken down. Stupid bureaucrats!

Races cancelled (due to weather) in a group of 12 (at 11am in the morning) looking to kill a few hours. Had a few drinks in here, helpful and friendly staff, reasonable prices, recommend!

This is a typical working mans pub. (no disrepect intented). Its a good place to watch the football, but thats about it.

Well kept beer. Nice local with locals in it. Hard working, considerate barmaid. What more does anyone want from a pub? Otter bitter delicious and nice to see Iford on tap.

I've used the Rotunda since the 70's when I've been back in the country and the atmosphere hasn't changed. You still get the same warm welcome

Good choice of real ales on offer. Extra seating outside with table service available. Handy to know that it opens at 11am which is earlier than many other pubs in this area. Mind your step whey going to the toilets as the steps down are very steep

Come to the Cheltenham festival for the week every year in March. Come into here each night. Guinness is spot on. Steve is a great landlord and the staff are brilliant. Should hopefully be back in March 2022, please god.

Spent our last night in Cheltenham enjoying a drink outside. Recommend, good location, vibrant and friendly.

we had a week's stay in Cheltenham and the Rotunda was the best pub we found. Great beers at reasonable prices, friendly staff and excellent sitting-out area to enjoy the good weather. would definitely recommend.

1 star is a very generous review for this place. Before we ordered any drinks, the bar staff stated they would be with us in a moment as there were only 2 people on tonight and they were very short staffed and stressed. After we had almost finished our drinks we were then accosted by someone, who I can only assume works there, as she didnt introduce herself. She then harassed us and attempted to intimate us as we had asked for a receipt after payment. We were told we had to leave even though we were about to order more drinks. Only go here if you are a regular or want to be called a "nobody" by "staff".

Nice pub in the Montpellier District area with a beer garden both front and back. If given a choice, choose the seats at the back as less traffic noise. Some decent quality Real Ales and friendly staff.

The outside seating has transformed the place. We had a lovely evening drink here.

Stopped for a drink following poor food at the Wine bar over the road. Service was good but wow after all this time you’d of thought they’d of cleaned the inch of dust of the sanitary bin! Cleanliness left a lot to be desired!!

We chose here as my partner wanted to watch the Europa league final being a Man Utd fan.We had a great evening with ice cold beer and a cracking atmosphere to match.The staff were really friendly and we got chatting with some of the locals who made us feel very welcome.

A lively bar with really friendly owners. Always happy to strike a conversation. Die to the covid restrictions they have upgraded to panini's. But they are to die for . £2.95 and comes with crisps and salad. Perfect with a nice Corona. Truly a miracle in the Cheltenham area.

Great proper drinking pub which shows rugby

The welcome here is as icy as my mother-in-laws glare. An absolutes failure to appreciate a client has bothered to call. No smile, no niceties, not even a hello. I've seen 4 different staff behind the bar during my 3 visits, all of which need intensive people skill training. The beers are very average and over priced and the glasses they are served in are not always clean. I know that my opinion of this place is well informed and accurate, not from a one off visit. My search for a decent boozer in Cheltenham continues...

Great pub and excellent beer and service. Good to back there after the lockdown. Good improvements to cope with new social distancing. Extra tables outside. Bigger space in the bar and good to see the customers acknowledging the current needs.

Unfortunately popped in before a meal Only COVID precautions were random bottles sanitiser No one way, no track trace, no distancing no table service. Literally just pre lockdown When asked landlord if bar service looked like gone mad Real mistake going in. Won’t feel bad walking straight out places like this again

We had just had dinner in Cote near to this pub. So we popped in for a few drinks. There were 6 of us. Had a few drinks each but the pub was not at all welcoming. Each time we went to the bar you felt as if you shouldn't be in there! We would of gone somewhere else but it was so close to closing time. I found the barman rude and maybe should brush up on his customer skills!

Always used to call in here when in town, sadly never again. An extremely worse for wear manager/landlord, real ales not up to the usual mark and unpleasant clientele. Felt sorry for young lady behind the bar who had only just started working there.Sad times....

This is about the best Public House in Montpellier.. The drinks have a good selection.. The staff are great. There is TV which seems to help the atmoshere .. If you are there and want a good time GO...

Friendly, welcoming and cosy. A traditional pub. They have a great selection of drinks and bar snacks. The staff are all friendly. The pub is well cleaned and tidy with modern and well kept facilities. They're are two out side seating area, one with heaters for the winter.

Visited here yesterday on a scorching hot day and sat outside for a couple of cooling drinks. Five people and a dog. The staff couldn't have been nicer, the drink was excellent, the prices were great, the dog was given a big drink of water....
