Booking for 9 people diarised for wrong day, despite two phone calls and a personal visit to check the booking; consequence was a crammed table in a corner. Massive scones undercooked with the consistency of wet cement. Jam provided in small commercial pots. Apathetic service.

Sunday and not too busy. Quick service but pricey @ £9.50 for a sandwich and £7 for soup which arrived with one slice of half toasted bread and no butter. Soup was tasteless warm creamy liquid and without adding literally 2 sachets of pepper and 1 of salt I wouldn’t have eaten it. Not good value at all. Disappointed as it seems to have changed significantly post Covid and whilst we understand costs have increased we still think value is important to the customer too. Honestly not sure we’ll be back.

A celebratory Afternoon Tea with friends was a delightful occasion. The quality and quantity of sandwiches, cakes, treats, teas and coffees was so good and presented so artistically. There were a few of us and we all had plenty of room in the heated marquee. The staff were always smiling and happy to help and made the occasion very special. Thankyou.

We were meant to be a group of 10 for afternoon tea for a surprise birthday however 3 couldn’t end up making it so unfortunately there was only 7 to which we were told they had catered for 10 so were left to have to pick up the remainder of the bill and then to top it off then after paying what we thought was the correct amount, an outstanding amount of £44 was left. We questioned why this was as the menu price when I booked back in February stated £17.50 for afternoon tea. He said they had a price increase in April to £22.50 each. This overall put a dampener on our afternoon, felt a bit let down over this as working in retail it should of been honoured at the price at which it was booked at! Food was nice enough.

On arrival at 13.15 shown to table inside. Ordered almost immediately and then waited an hour for our main course and waited a further 30 minutes for our sweet. We only got the sweets when my partner questioned where they were and then they were immediately delivered. Excessive noise from kitchen staff boasting that it was the easiest Easter Sunday they had had after running out of a lot of choices on the fixed menu. Food when it arrived was very good. Suggestion to restaurant - maybe let your customers know what the wait is going to be when placing the order. Easy and most people will be accepting of this.

I wish to make a complaint about the service I received on Mother's Day. We had booked our table for Mother's Day and made our order well in advance but the service was shocking. I appreciate that it was busy however, when asked if we could sit inside we were very rudely talked down to by Bruce. We then proceeded to our outside table to have to wait 20 mins to be asked what we wanted. My husband wanted something from the al la carte menu, which he was told would be ok, only to be very rudely told he couldn't have. So the young gentleman (think his name was Ben) told us we could order from the street menu. We did, then Bruce came over and told us that we couldn't cause of Mother's Day prep, leaving my husband with nothing to eat. We then proceeded to sit a further 60 mins for food, which was not to our liking. We were not even asked if it was ok. No one had communicated a wait despite being told that all good was prepped and we had ordered on the phone several weeks before. We were totally ignored throughout. This was meant to be a treat for Mother's Day however this was ruined by our experience. Subsequently, after an hour of waiting for food that didn't need to be cooked, we walked out and didn't get any food!!!! This experience has put me off coming to the tea rooms again and I will most certainly tell everyone of my rude experience at the tea room.

We were staying nearby so went for a drive and came across Rosie Leas. We ordered the cheeseburger each and some dirty fries to share. My partner realised not long after ordering that she hadn't asked for the burger to be cooked through (she didn't want it pink). She found a member of staff who acknowledged her request and went to the kitchen. From our table we could hear the conversation and the chef seemed bemused and commented did she want it like dust/charcoal? Maybe the kitchen should be aware that if you work in an open kitchen then the likelihood is that customers will hear your comments! The dirty fries were really good as were the burgers, I did find a few bits of gristle in mine but overall the food was good as was the service.

We popped in for lunch on our way home from a break on the coast. This used to be The Hobbler, so the new eatery was an impressive and pleasant surprise to us. The staff were welcoming and extremely helpful, particularly as we hadn’t booked. The staff were also very allergy aware. We only had a soup and sandwich plus tea and coffee, but this was delicious. I noted lovely looking cakes but didn’t try any of these. There seemed to be a lot of space both inside and outside, and placement of tables allowed room between them. Also staff were seating people so there was space between groups, all good in light of current circumstances. A very good experience overall.

Having already sampled the Royal Tea back in the summer, we thought it would be a good idea to try the Forest Ramblers Tea. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Sunday to avoid the lunch crush and decided to sit inside. The staff were welcoming and equally attentive throughout our visit. There were three of us, two having a traditional pot of tea, the third having coffee. Both team and as I understand it, the coffee were good. Then to the tea itself which came in two large wooden trays. First off, the fried scotch egg, only word for this was wow, absolutely scrumptious and we could quite happily of just eaten these all afternoon. Next, the sausage rolls which were also very tasty. The finger sandwiches were pleasing, cut into traditional fingers and with a couple of interesting fillings on top of the norm. There was a choice of scone, but we all opted for the cheese version, large and nice. The slab of cheese was tasty, but our only criticism would be that the variety provided was a little dry to go with the scones. Carrot, Hazelnut & Fig cake completed the tea and again, this was very tasty. We would recommend it, something a tad different and with the friendly staff and chef, it is a winner for us at least.

Had a delicious meal for our 17th wedding anniversary. My wife had a garden gin cocktail that she loved, I had a cider, and then both had a Scotch egg starter, which was simply delicious. I then had a pork belly and she had a beef shin, both of which were rich and warming and super tasty. The side veggies were a real high point - interesting, tasty, and pimped to perfection - we both really enjoyed them. We didn't have dessert, which is simply because we enjoyed the mains so much and were nicely full. The staff was attentive and friendly - we really enjoyed the whole experience, so we're going again with friends in a couple of weeks.

This was the first time we’ve been here but will definitely not be the last. It is a gorgeous setting, over looking new forest fields and paddocks. The outdoor area is well looked after and there is lots of seating. There’s a great exploratory area for children inclusive of a role play area and an ice cream hut. We went here for the ‘Royal afternoon tea’ which you do have to pre-book and order. If we didn’t check this online before hand it would have been disappointing to not be able to have it because it was absolutely out of this world!! The tea consisted of 4 different types of homemade sandwiches that were not bland or boring like some afternoon teas can be (we had salmon and cream cheese, cheese and pickle, red pepper and humous and Cajun chicken). The scones were large and warm and came with plenty of cream and jam ( we opted for one of each (cheese, plain and fruit). The cakes that were also served included a blondie, mini creme patisseries, shortbread, a brownie and a slice of lemon and blueberry cake. All completely fresh, homemade and delicious. The way they presented it all in baskets with edible flowers…it was breath taking. We really could not fault any of it at all. The staff were so friendly, helpful and attentive too. We can’t wait to return and would not hesitate to recommend!

Beautiful settIng with so much potential not lived up to. Given the limited breakfast menu you would expect them to excel in what they do offer. Breakfast was distinctly underwhelming. It can’t be hard to make toast which was more like warmed bread delivered cold. Waffles seemed like they were from a box and warmed. Flat white was more like coffee you get from a machine. No orange juice and apple juice was more like water with syrup added. They could do so much more with this place. Management heard my feedback but for each suggestion was met with a reluctant excuse.

Booked a last minute reservation for dinner whilst camping in the New Forest. A little surprised to get a table last minute, but went ahead. Excellent refurbishment off this location from previously dire Hobler pub. Investment shows in the remodelling of the garden to make a covered outdoor area and patio. Everything strives to give the appearance of Shabby chic. Immediately enjoyed a couple of pear Bellini cocktails which were excellent, fresh and vibrant flavours too cool us on a warm evening. Perused the menu and decided to order a variety of dishes to share. Appetisers of braised gem lettuce with beetroot and squash, asparagus with crusty bacon was so tasty. On to the main event: Beef brisket slow cooked was excellent, as was the amazing pork belly; accompanied by potato salad, coleslaw, pit beans and tomato and mozzarella salad. All fresh, vibrant and tasty. Potato salad may have benefited from a little seasoning to give a zing to the freshness, perhaps a little black pepper or grain mustard, but not too much. Finished up with a change of cocktail to the excellent vodka based lemon fizz. So refreshing and sour, but in a good way! Dessert was syrup pudding with griddled pineapple and coconut custard for me and panacotta for the better half. The raspberry sorbet was to die for! Will we be back… Damn right, and sooner rather than later

We were stupidly nervous of visiting from past experience of the terrible ‘hobbler inn’ that it used to be, which is ridiculous on our behalf... the new owners have transformed this place completely and it is wonderfully beautiful inside and out! The staff are lovely, friendly, attentive, had smiles on their faces and welcomed us just turning up on the spot. We sat in the garden area which is stunning with views over fields, had a home grown herb area, patio, pretty lighting and different styles of seating to suit your comfort. The BEST part about it for us, with two toddlers, was the great play area for children, and how imaginative it is! There’s a mud kitchen, rocking horse, a boat, different styles of tables and chairs, chalk boards, wooden food items, plenty of crayons, chalks and plates plus the obligatory chefs hat and apron. It was lovely to eat our cake in peace while the kids had a fantastic time playing and we could watch them from our table. We will be visiting time again and bringing various people with us as it is so easy to relax there and everybody is happy! Also doggy friendly which is a bonus to us too. Thanks for making a lovely family place to visit, just like it should always have been! :)

Beautiful surroundings, great food, friendly staff. Evening meal in the marquee. The menu was different to anywhere else we’ve eaten in the area - smoked meats cooked to perfection. They went to great lengths to satisfy my fussy eating daughter - nothing was too much trouble. We’ll definitely be back,

Our second visit to RL House, just in time to try the smoked menu and very impressed. Over 2 nights we tried belly pork (my favourite), chicken and brisket. All delicious and meltingy tender. The sides are also really good especially the delicious BBQ beans and deep fried mac'n cheese cubes. As well as food, the setting is really good, with tables in and outside, outside being ideal on a sunny evening. Service is friendly, helpful and prompt and prices are reasonable.Rosie Lea House is well worth a visit, or two. We'll be back.Kevin Delaney

Absolutely tranquil surroundings, beautiful layout in the garden. Indoors was bright and airy unlike other pubs/restaurants very dull/dark. A very shabby chic feel which I absolutely adore. The staff were amazing, so friendly. The food was beautifully presented and tasted lovely. Will definitely recommend and go again. Top marks.

Arrived at about 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon after a long walk - forgot to book the Rosie Lea Royal Tea Basket ahead of our arrival. Asked if it was possible to have one for two people even though we hadn't booked in advance. Not a problem! They kindly arranged it for us - lovely staff, very polite and so pleased they could accommodate our forgetfulness of not booking in advance! Thank you - it was absolutely delicious - sandwiches super, cakes fantastic, and more than enough for two - took a load home. The garden is fantastic - covered area and some tables with umbrellas. The plants and raised borders look great. Thank you once again for a great afternoon, great surroundings and great food,

Didn’t eat here, researched it, wanted to go, called in. Restaurant manager provided issues not solutions. Do you have a table for 2, we are fully booked it’s raining. What time is that too? 5pm. This was 1pm. He would answer a question but not provide a solution.Lots of staff, too many, took too long to connect with us, looked quiet and when we passed at 3pm looked quiet. Can’t comment on food, Shame as I am in the business and happy to promote.Just felt a bit of I am superior, not a good sign at this level.

We visited on Wednesday 5th May and had a wonderful visit. The waitress looking after us made it all the better by being so friendly and attentive. The food was plentiful for a Royal High Tea at £16.50 a head. We got a doggie bag to take away with us. Have to book this advance and it was well worth it. Lovey outdoor seating area that was covered, luckily for us as it rained when we arrived. Small carpark just outside the venue. Busy main road so be careful.

I visited Rosie Leas for afternoon tea with some friends - the outdoor area is brilliant, we weren’t cold at all and I was extremely grateful to have somewhere nice to be able to see my friends and catch up properly. We ordered 2 afternoon teas and 1 vegetarian afternoon tea - I found it surprising the vegetarian option came mixed in with the other 2, meaning the vegetarian sandwiches were touching those with meat in. While this didn’t worry me, I know a lot of vegetarians/vegans are quite strict with things touching/being cooked together, so I mentioned it to the waiter serving us - he didn’t really seem to care or see my point and did nothing to apologise or attempt to rectify the situation. The vegetarian sandwich options were just cheese - plain cheese (clearly grated cheese from a packet) or goats cheese with relish. Whilst both were adequate, they were unimaginative to say the least, and after a couple I was all cheesed out. The menus were tatty and dog eared - in today’s current climate I wasn’t all too comfortable touching a piece of paper that had clearly been handled by many before me. Many restaurants are using laminated menus that can be cleaned or simply disposing of paper ones after being used, which is something that could easily be rectified. Again, the same could be said for the food all being brought out in one basket together - one pot of jam passed between 3 people could increase potential cross contamination of covid and other germs - this could be avoided by having separate pots of jam/afternoon tea servings for each person at the table, therefore avoiding multiple people touching the same things.

Based on some of the reviews, we were really looking forward to having lunch there. Sadly we were disappointed. We waited nearly 45 minutes from the time we ordered our food to actually appearing on our table - far too long and spoilt your enjoyment.Food was good. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her charred chicken stew and my fish and chips were good. We would have liked a sweet and coffee but given the delay we decided against it. Staff were friendly and smiled with their eyes but appeared disorganised. Management would do well to address these service issues. If nothing else tell your customers that there’s a delay then you’re managing expectations.

Have really like Rosie lea’s in Brockenhurst and then at Setley Ridge so was looking forward to trying their new venue for dinner. The staff were very friendly and they had good Covid practises in place - though I did have to ask for a bigger table as we were from different households and I wanted to ensure we had some distance from one another as well as other diners. This seemed to come as a bit of a surprise to them so I can only imagine they didn’t understand the rules about enabling even friends to socially distance. Maybe I’m just more careful than others! They were very happy to oblige though when I explained which was great. The food was ok - maybe I just chose wrong, but my friend ordered something that wasn’t then available and again, although very apologetic when pointed out, she was given a menu with a different desert choice than us which also wasn’t available. The room we were in was near the kitchens and unfortunately there was a strong and pervading smell of cooking grease that was in my clothes by the end of the evening. I hope they manage to sort that out these things as the setting was lovely, the decor was good, the staff friendly and I know they have been able to do good food on the past so I’m hoping these are still teething problems in opening up a new venue in the middle of a pandemic.

We have often eaten at Rosie Lea House during this Covid crisis, mainly outside in their lovely garden, which has been great. However, yesterday we had coffee with friends inside as it had been raining heavily. After about 20 minutes the sash windows were getting steamed up, so we asked the waitress if she could open the windows to which she replied, they didn't open. The sash windows need to be opened to allow ventilation especially during this Covid crisis if people are to eat inside and feel safe. We spoke to the manager as we were leaving, who understood our concern but said the windows couldn't be opened. This needs to be rectified as soon as possible, otherwise people are not going to want to be inside if there is insufficient ventilation. We will be telling friends of our concern, so they are forewarned. Our toasted tea cakes were delicious, but were not on the menu, so we had to ask for them and they were provided.

We were in the New Forest for a long weekend and loved it here so much we went twice! Such a rare find - somewhere you can go for breakfast, morning coffee, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner that is not a chain! We had lunch and the portions, presentation and taste were fabulous! Thoroughly recommend the toasties. Second visit was for cake & coffee. Husband declared the hot chocolate the best he has ever had! Staff were very attentive and friendly on both occasions. Our only negative comment is that you do get left a bit once the place empties so paying was a bit of hard work

I hate writing a poor review, we have been here twice prior to making a restaurant booking. On the previous trips we had enjoyed a forest dog walk before sitting outside. On the first of these we were located on the decking which is quite close to the road and the kitchen. The road is a bit noisy but there appears to be NO filtration from the cooking vent and the smell of old cooking oil was a real appetite suppressant. Pity. The food was ok, average to slightly above, staff were excellent initially but a second garden visit was spoiled a lady who really didn't seem to know what she was doing. Overall it seemed like a nice place so we thought we'd try the evening menu for my son's 30th birthday. On booking we'd requested a table in the bar area. The building looks quaint from the outside but has had extensions added. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly and professional staff, and were walked through the bar to a non-descript room at the rear. Best described it as characterless. I asked to be seated in the bar area and was told 'we keep those tables for the regulars'. There was no one sitting there at the time and after our meal just one favoured family had used a table! An absolute insult to people that want to support your business. So we got to sit in a draughty characterless area, with the added benefit of cooking smells and noise wafting through from the kitchen. The staff on this night were again very professional, the food was pretty good but we were all taken aback by being told we can't sit somewhere because we're not regulars! Hospitality? It didn't feel like it.We live locally and eat out most weeks in the New Forest, with many restaurants and pubs having an excellent warm and friendly atmosphere. On this night Rosie Lea House fell well short.

A short break to the New Forest, we decided to book our evening meals out in advance, so, Thursday last week, we booked the Rosie Lea. On arriving, a staff member takes your temperature before seating you, which we thought was a good idea. We visited recently for a late lunch on a Sunday. Presumably they serve a Roast on Sundays but at the time of our visit at 1.30 pm this was not offered. As it was going to be a sunny day, when we booked we had asked for a table in the garden. However, on arrival, we were told that these could not be reserved so that everyone has a chance of a table in the garden. That is fair enough but it would have been helpful to know this, as we were all a little nervous about eating indoors. Our table was in a room with two other tables. The spacing was fine but it was quite noisy. The menu is very good and this was what attracted us to the restaurant in the first instance. There are some really different dishes so 5 stars for the menu. The food was very tasty with reasonable portion size. I thought that the Scallops were particularly good but they could have been served warmer. The staff were friendly but on this day the service was very slow. It was a busy lunch period on a sunny day and the Covid precautions probably impacted on the service. It’s a shame, as it is a very nice restaurant and I think has lots to offer.
