Rose Grill and Fry in Wealden

We use this Fish and Chip shop about once a month, the staff are very friendly and the food is always excellent. We phone our order through in advance, it’s always ready to collect when I get there. It can be extremely busy in the summer so be prepared to wait, it is worth it.

As a visitor to the area called in for a takeaway based on the other reviews on this site. Maybe I should have noted none of the reviews were recent. The food supplied was swimming in grease, the chicken was bone dry and chewy. Worst of all this chippy literally is an arm's throw from the sea so why is everything bar the chips obviously out of a freezer? Avoid!

Brilliant service and quality. Big order which was fresh and tasty. Such good value and everyone was very happy. I would highly recommend.

Waited nearly forty minutes for sausage and chips. When I asked for my money back was told mine was the next order. Many people came in after us and were served before. Another customer had ordered and then gone for a walk. Very inefficient staff. I won't waste my time there again.

Eat in or Take away cash only but the best, always the best, often a queue so go before you are hungry, orders cooked while you wait.

it is a very busy fish and chip shop and in the summer there are always long queues. Best to ring through your order. Everything is cooked to order so it is very fresh. There is a lot more batter than fish so we usually stick to sausages to avoid disappointment. We have only ordered take away and never dined in.

Went here Friday 17th August. Place was totally disorganised and lack Of staff. Every table had dirty plates left on them. Had to queue with everyone else to eat in which was wrong. Waited over 25 minutes for the food to arrive. Fish and chips ok. Roll was frozen and disgusting. Saveloys were hard, over cooked and tasty horrible. My Son had food poisoning that night and it was from here. Phoned the owner but his attitude was I’m always busy and never had complaints. He said he was sorry but not good enough. Will never return here again. Will find a chippy with better service

The fish and chips were lovely but such an unorganized way of serving. Have rarely waited so long in a restaurant for food and never in a fish and chip shop. By paying up front means you can't leave in disgust. The people serving are pleasant but some the orders were slightly incorrect because of the way it was managed. A shame because nice food .

Freshly cooked so a short wait but well worth it. Fish fried to perfection and chips probably the best I have had for a long while. Will continue to patronise as long as this standard is maintained. Whilst waiting for order had a little nose a round. You can eat in and to be honest the place looked spotless. They have 3 consecutive 5 star Hygiene reviews. Nothing not to lie and staff friendly.

We were in Hastings over the weekend and drove down to Pevensey bay for fish and chips on the beach. Food cooked fresh to order- because of this it is slow service. Food was good and warm- especially in the take out boxes. Did put one part of the order in wrong which meant we had to wait longer! A very short walk from beach to chip shop.

This used to be the best, and I mean the best bar none. The brother (Maybe, it’s a guess) moved the kebab business over the road, (the kebabs are still great.) The chips here though have gone to pot, either the oil is too hot or they are cooked too long. It used to THE chip shop for me and mine, now I sadly have to say I need to find a new one because I won’t be going back.

We called and pre-order to collect. The food was just being wrapped as we arrived. Very fresh and lots of chips!!!

Very friendly staff. Fish is cooked fresh can really recommend. Have eaten in the restaurant and had takeaway. You can also order by phone.

After two years gave another try ,sorry to say awful again such a shame for a local business,chippy on harbour excellent

We never buy Fish and Chips anywhere else this is the best. Have tried other places but they do not measure up. 8 months of the year we buy our Fish and Chips here when we are local. The other 4 months we go without when it is too far to travel.

Batter to thick fish over cooked dry soggy chips. Never had such bad chips. Threw most of it in the bin. queues out the door waited 20 mins can't understand it.

A Monday in mid-June and there was quite a queue, so we decided to eat in. Obviously cooked to order but excellent cod and plaice, not too greasy and tasty as well.

Hemos estado viniendo aquí durante años, a menudo conduciendo a una agradable velada en Pevensey, así podemos tener pescado y patatas fritas en la playa. Normalmente de muy buena calidad, tuberías calientes, que es claramente cocinados a la orden. Esto puede significar un importante esperar, eso sí, pero eso no es raro en estos días, con muchas tiendas de pescado frito con patatas fritas. Mi única crítica es que en el último par de ocasiones el pescado y hamburguesas vegetarianas han sido extremadamente grasienta y pasada, pero esta crítica también cubre todas las ocasiones cuando la comida ha sido perfecto! Las patatas fritas son muy buenas!

Un buen pescado y chips pero no el mejor - la comida era promedio y así son las porciones en un pueblo costero que cabe esperar mejor, pero supongo que todos los ingredientes congelados

Este poco de costa está bendecida con muchos excelentes tiendas de pescado frito con patatas fritas y este es uno de los mejores. Yo sólo he sido un viernes por la noche, cuando todo está preparado a pedido y es excelente. El pescado es mejor que las salchichas (no cocinados a la orden), que me pareció decepcionante. Prepárate para esperar en las horas pico, pero merece la pena! También hay mesas para comer.

Best fish and chips around... even family from Australia come to visit this place to get their fix of proper fish and chips.

Really how long does it take to fry a piece of plaice and some chips ? Well if you go here 25 minutes,it was Sunday evening and only me in there. It wasn't even that nice or worth the flippen wait, it was very greasy. I would go to carters on seaside road it's much much nicer

I had to wait 45 minutes for 2 pieces of cod and a bag of cool, soggy chips. I had used a different fish and chip shop on previous visits to Pevensey Bay but unfortunately that has closed. Other people said how good it was but when we went it was terrible.

Excellent fish and chips to take out but rather spartan for dining in, some of my family also like their kebabs.

We qued outside and there was a constant que right from about 5.30pm. It was Friday night, it's a fish and chip place so I saw this to be a good sign. Standard fish and chips, was lovely being able to take them away and eat the on the beach, for us it was the perfect meal to end a perfect day. Will definitely go back next time we are in pevensey bay.

We dropped in to get a takeaway dinner (4 adults and 3 children) and had to wait after the order for our food to be cooked - whilst this isn't ideal for a fast food takeaway, it's nice to know your meal is freshly cooked and not sitting being kept warm.The fish was nicely cooked as were the chips and the pie and sausage tasted lovely.I didn't consider it to be expensive for fresh fish and chips and would recommend.

Good old fashioned fish and chips, cooked to order. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our takeaway food. This was because it's a busy place and I can see why. Huge portions and very tasty. The staff are very friendly and work very hard to get orders together as quickly as possible. I would definitely recommend.

This is not a cheap place to eat fish and chips, I think the OAP fish and chips is expensive, its always busy as not much choice in Pevensey

we were late getting home and decided fish and chips was the answer, we had scampi and sausage and chips as well, excellent, fresh cooked definitely would recommend

We went on a summer's Friday evening and ate fish and chip on the beach. The quality of food and packaging for take away was very good. Only small criticism is we had to queue for quite a while.

I have not tried the pizza or PFC (Pevensey Fried Chicken) but would happily recommend the kebabs, dona, shish and especially the mixed.

Been here twice this holiday and previous visits. All freshly cooked and well packaged. Staff friendly, helpful and quick. Shall keep visiting

3/6/16 lunchtime our fish was cooked to order so worth the wait ..the chips however were very pale and definitely needed more colour ..a few more minutes they would of been much better then I wouldn't of put a negative comment.

Lovely fish and chips, reasonably priced and certainly the best in the immediate area. They do get busy so would advise calling and ordering in advance, especially on a weekend night.

It's so popular, because it does the best fish and chips in the area. The fish is locally caught and is coated with a good batter.

Just popped in for Saveloy and chips.Chips were awful obviously frozen, soft and just dreadful. Not using fresh potato.Can't recommend.

Very freshly cooked fish and chips and sausage in batter. We ate in. The place is spotlessly clean and the staff friendly. A great find on our way through Pevensey.

Good fish and chips cooked fresh. A little wait but worth it. Then we walkwd down to the sea, chilly because of the month, but warmed by the food and to top it off our dog loved it.

Good place to buy a great piece of fish (I wasn't so keen on the soggy chips) and then walk across the road and sit on a bench at the bottom of the car park overlooking the seas, to eat it.

Crispy batter and lovely fish. Efficient, friendly service and value for money with good size servings. We took it down to the beach and enjoyed it with a view of the ocean

Having travelled the world i was amazed to find the best fish and chips 6 miles from where i live! The cod was excellent, white, meaty and perfect batter. The chips also had great flavour, nothing was greasy, can`t wait to return.

Fish and chips and a beach, go together like Ant and Dec. No disappointment at Rose's. It's busy for a reason - they do a very good job. Tempted to a second visit but twice in three days is perhaps a little much. Too many chips but nothing new about that. Better to leave them than complain of too few, I suppose.So, well done lads. I always have my fish and chips here when I'm visiting the areaI like that the establishment is immaculately clean, you can sit in and the chips are very tastyI like that they serve the takeaway in containers rather than wrapping so the food doesn't stick togetherI've never had a bad meal here and would recommend a visit

Freshly fried fish was definitely worth the wait. Lovely crisp batter and white succulent meat. I can not fault the meal. I will definitely be returning.

In Pevensey bay and seems always open, food is cooked fresh and brilliant.Staff are so friendly and helpful. We always go here knowing we won't be disappointed!

As a local, we have tried on numerous occasions and would rate them as the best in the local villages. Good, tasty chips, decent portions and quick, friendly service. Not the best place to eat in but good for takeaway and opposite the beach so who needs to eat in!

We eat here from time to time and it always does a nice meal. Staff are always really helpful and friendly.

Very friendly staff and food is brilliant, no matter what you choose it's all great.the kebabs are cooked to perfection and the meaty pizza is delicious. Make sure you get there early cos it closes quite early.

Visited Friday evening to get a take away for the family to take to the beach. As expected, it was busy for a Friday but the staff were very organised and got served quickly. We all thought the chips were really good. We also had sausages and fish cakes which the children enjoyed. Would definitely visit again.

Saturday night 29/03/2014. My Wife and I ordered Hadock & Chips each and I also had the mushy peas. Thankfully my Wife was fine but shortly after eating I felt very bloated and un-comfortable. Later that night I had bad diarrhoea followed by vomiting, this went on for quite a while.The next day I was ill and had no appetite.It is now Monday and I still ache and feel very tired because of lack of sleep.My recommendation for this Restaurant is AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
