Only went for a pint and a swim with my wife, bar staff were so excited we ordered a drink that they ignored us, got a drink and tried to find a clean table we sat down and decided to have a dip in the pool only to be terrorised by the youth of today 10y -13yr olds when confronting the mother(Waneta does exist) she said her feral brats were just being kids, they were terrorising everybody that was in the pool (including babies) other people were complaining but was met with more abuse from the mother, there was no stopping them, there wasn't any control over them at all, all she did was look at her phone an spark up another woodbine and told us to go back to your old people's home, absolutely appalling behaviour from the mother and brats will definitely won't be going back there anytime soon and another tip avoid the group of men drinking in the corners of the pub that look you up and down as your walking in, definitely not a place for families don't believe any of the good reviews it's a fix!!

Easy going, relaxed atmosphere, away from any hustle and bustle and main roads. Every time we stay (that is at least once a year) they have improved something (swimmingpool, kids playground. Ablutions block, mobiles, camping area. I enjoy the sound of birds singing in the early mornings. The friendly staff, a reasonable onsite pub. Basic and bloody lovely, more than you would expect in this neck of the woods😉

Unfortunately our stay here wasn’t great. At all. Toilets were disgusting, only hot taps in the toilet so wasn’t very pleasant when doing your teeth. We went up the road to where our friends and family were staying to shower because again these were disgusting. You also had to pay to use the dirty showers! We booked this last minute due to a cancellation of a previous site, and to be honest no wonder they had room a day before bank holiday. I can see a lot of the reviews state it needs TLC, but to be honest if they actually cleaned the toilets it would be a lot more pleasant. It’s not nice when you go away and you’re out and about looking for toilets as you don’t want to use the ones back at your site. The the card you have to use is pointless, 1 card between all of you, not sure why the toilets needed to be unlocked with your card, they were vile. Could understand if they were brand new and they were actually looked after. The bins were so full could no get our rubish in them, felt sorry for the people on the pitches near them as they stunk. No walks or anything around to take dogs ect, felt the need to get in the car all the time. Things to do was a good 30/40 minutes away. The only decent thing about this place is the site it’s self was relaxed and everyone was friendly. So if you don’t need the toilet or shower while your there you might be ok 🤣

This is not a posh site, this is a good site, maintained as it needs to be with a range of camping and accommodation options. Some many turn their noses up at it but it does what it says on the tin. This is the second year I and my friends have stopped here in one of the static caravans. Yes they are older vans but still sound and perfectly serviceable. As for the site generally, well it is not manicured with pretty little paths all laid out with rules up to your eyeballs. Some might call it "rough and ready" but for me it ticks all the boxes. the food is perfectly fine with no airs and graces and the beer is good with a fine choice of bottles in these challenging times. The staff even asked what we would prefer when doing their shopping.it obviously doesn't suit everyone looking at some of the reviews left but it suits me.So if you expect forelock tugging service go elsewhere! It is good value and engaging with the locals and staff make a big difference, as does saying "thank you". I like it and will be back.

Upon arrival i went into the bar area to ask which pitch we were on . I did book hardstanding but was told err ohh they a problem with website they no hardstanding left so you ll after go on the grass (THE WHOLE WEBSITE IS A LOAD OF RUBBISH) its more like a storage yard for old caravans and farm workers . The hot tub was empty and green upon asking was told its hard to keep warm in this weather. The pool was OK is when we were allowed in . The bar could do with a good clean . The toilets were clean but the area was not pleasant as was full of cob webs and the toilet waste was outside. The washing area literally had a garage panel on its side to keep the area dry . The groundsman was rude and the owner didn't seem to care.

Booked hardstanding and didn’t get it. Questioned and dismissed by site owner who didn’t seem to care less. Site is quite scruffy and all grass areas uneven. No hot tub (as described) and were dictated to about pool usage and made up rules that are not sated anywhere. Showers were OK however, not a pleasant experience with Elsan and grey waste right outside the shower entrance and outdoor washing area (not very thought out).. overall it was bearable as was with friends in their caravans however, left after 4 days when they did but booked a week.. Won’t be returning; owner didn’t seem to have a very caring attitude and it seemed very ‘clicky’ with regulars. Definitely not worth the money!

Not as photo, site resembled a gypsy site with unused caravans parked randomly all over the place. Booked a hardstanding pitch, which was a small oblong of stones in the middle of grass, so in this wet weather made it very muddy and slippery. Toilets inside was clean, but water and hand driers freezing cold, the corridor to toilets was dirty and full of cobwebs. Was advertised as having hot tub which was main reason for booking, but was told not filled as hard to keep it warm, pool was ok. Should have been there for 8 nights but couldn’t stand it any longer and left after 4.

We attended here for friends 40th, we took our own tourer. Daughter loved the pool and play park. The staff honestly couldn't have been any more accommodating to us. The food and drinks are all so reasonably priced, I am vegi and after breakfast the first morning I asked if they could possibly get quorn sausages the next day, the next day there they were and cooked beautifully as was breakfast both days... What amazing service. The birthday BBQ/ Buffet again great value, really tasty and served fabulously. Our first time camping here but will definitely return, laid back smiling happy staff who genuinely care if all is OK for you. Thanks to all at the Rose and Crown

I agree with previous reviews that Dougie and the staff all work so hard to ensure a safe and pleasant stay.He strictly enforces his zero tolerance of rule breaking. I know this because we had the misfortune of being behind the family from Hell. Having a huge drunken row about their child wetting the bed... Took over an hour for them to resolve as they had lost all control of their common sense. Poor kid. Then they made up for the whole site to hear a scene out of When Harry Met Sally. I would laugh but my head was pounding from the boom box BMW rally in the corner. Dougie can't help these things but he was very responsive to my feedback. It's a very basic site but has good facilities.Maybe enquire if a rally is booked before you go unless you want to be loud.

We was slightly apprehensive about coming due to reviews, however, the campsite itself is exactly what is advertised. Level pitch, clean facilities and free access to playground & pool. We had no noise issues and staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Showers were fine, good pressure and plenty room to change etc. Toilets did get a little unkept during the day, but again, this is inevitable when it is or social distancing, it is the responsibility of everybody to adhere to COVID rules and it is a risk you are willing to take when venturing on holiday, particularly camping with shared facilities. Therefore, we were happy with the rules & regulations the campsite had instilled, but respected that it was difficult to control other campers. The owners enforce a zero tolerance policy for vandilising, which was demonstrated during our stay. Food was amazing, and drinks were reasonably priced.Would definitely reccomend!

After cancelling our holiday abroad (due to COVID) we decided last min to stay here again! We have stayed at the site before and enjoyed it that much that we decided to return for a week mid August. On arrival we were given a good spot and any queries were quickly answered. The toilet facilities were always clean and if anything we had to wait to use them as the cleaner was always in there (certainly not complaining). Showers were perfectly fine and constant running hot water. The park is great for the kiddies and the outside seating area was always clean with a great atmosphere. The pool is a lovely now it’s heated Although the booking system is a bit of a pain only getting 30 min a day and other (regular) guests seem to allow their kids to swim as long as they wanted! Given the current situation staff are doing all they can and it is the other guests responsibility to adhere to rules. If this was ever mentioned to staff they quickly dealt with the situation. But the pool is free, heated and ample space so no complaints really! The food is Absolutely AMAZING and reasonably priced! Compliments to Dougie. I would travel here just for the food if we didn’t live so far away! I found MOST staff very friendly and efficient! (Only complaint) The hot tub is a great addition although I did not see it cleaned while there but I was not always up at the outside area. A few guests mentioned this and said chlorine was added. I’m sure it was cleaned at least once daily but it could maybe be cleaned a bit more often, but understand the site was busy (constructive criticism). Any noise disturbances were dealt with Swiftly (I know this as we were a bit load chatting outside one evening and were told to keep It down) fair enough, understandable. Will return and recommend! Thanks for a great week Dougie and staff, keep up the hard work! The Rose and Crown is definitely a hidden gem, see you again soon

Absolute disgrace! There is absolutely no regard for social distancing on site. Even sat in my caravan I didn't feel like I was social distancing as the pitches was that close together. The wifi and signal strength is an absolute joke! It's the worse I've ever seen it. There is a policy for the use of the swimming pool - a maximum of 8 people. I was given permission (although I had booked a time slot in advance for 3 people) from the owner to use the pool to take the total of people using the pool to 11. There is absolutely no regard for health and safety for people on site! Nothing is cleaned down after use, the swimming pool, the outdoor seating area, the on-site toilets, nothing. This also includes the on-site bins as every single day, they were overflowing and for the duration I stayed at the Rose and Crown, the bins were never emptied. I will not be staying again and I DO NOT recommend for people to stay at the Rose & Crown! If possible I would not give them a star rating!

Turned up on site and was screamed at by the person that takes you to your pitch for not putting the tent closer to the EHU and told can only use 1 extension. Told us he told us to put the tent closer but in fact didn’t. Was very rude and arrogant.Owner Drunk accusing people of urinating in the field when in fact it was a camping toilet with a windbreak round for privacy. Threatening and saying he will make people shut up even his wife was telling him to stop, pulling him away and telling him he was being a (*****)... Accused us of being loud and rowdy yet we were inside our tent whispering and causing no disruption to nearby campers. Owners brother stood watching a 14 year old girl on said camping toilet, Also accused of urinating in the field and was also shown it was in fact a camping toilet that was purchased and told it was emptied appropriately. Also said purchased a toilet as didn’t want to use the toilet facilities there due to COVID-19 and the fact that they were filthy. Shon a torch into tents. Told 3 teens to hurry up and get the (****) to bed yet they were making no noise, causing no trouble and were respectful of others on site. He caused that much trouble and shouting nearby campers told him to be quiet and thought it was us that were making the noise until they knew it was in fact the owners brother. Showers were mouldy and toilets were filthy. Owners had no customer service skills and made you feel like if your face don’t fit you’re not welcome. Also feel if you drink in the pub until late and carry on your party at the tent to cause disruption you don’t get penalised because you have put more money into the business. Many people left due to the state of the facilities yet we were made to believe it was due to us and were told to leave site.Bins were overflowing and all rubbish around the bin area. People shouting and partying until late on Saturday night with kids running round playing football round our cars with no parents to be seen.

AVOID! Some of the worst toilets and showers I've ever seen. Looked like something you would fined in a prison (filthy!!) Watched a staff member handle my wife's bank card and then turn around and handle clean knife and folks so absolutely no covid 19 rules from what I saw not even social distancing. Also half the sight is a dump yard. And finally the owners were walking round the campsite drunk shouting and swearing at people for using a camp toilet because they said they should use there facilities.

Had a few issues with the people who where pitched next to us, who seemed to have forgotten they were in a tent and was watching films until 4.30am. We reported this to the staff and it was quickly felt with.We loved this site and will be going back all the staff are friendly and nothing was to much. The kids where very happy to play and swim and we didn't want to go home. Yes the showers got dirty but as soon as you brought this to the staffs attention it was quickly sorted out . I observed regular cleaning of all areas. We will be going back as we enjoyed ourselves so much the food is cheep and the drink reasonably priced, the pub may look a bit tatty from the outside but everything is good on the inside x

Camped here 5 nights, booked as a last minute thing before reading the reviews and wondered what we had done but actually it is exactly what it advertises.. a basic no frills camp site with a pub, pool and park. And we loved it, well organised pool usage, flat pitches to camp on, constant stream of hot water for the free showers, pot washing etc. The pub served nice food, we had no issues with noise and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We would definitely rather return here in future than go to a chain camp site, admittedly we were lucky with the weather but there is so much to do in the area anyway it's a great site.

We have been coming here for the past 7 years since dougie took over each year it just gets better. Dougie puts a lot of effort and hard work into making the campsite better each year. The pub is small but very friendly a few locals use the pub but are all friendly. The food is good and reasonably priced. There is a nice size pool free for campers to use also a jacuzzi for the adults. While we are dealing with covid the pool has to be booked for family time slots. Campsite toilets and shower block are cleaned regular showers are great for campsite probably one of the best showers we have used while camping. We visit the site normal ya couple of times a year we have camped, hired a static and now pitched our tourer. I see people’s negative reviews and often it’s with regards to the toilets being unclean obviously we are camping and from time to time you get some people who show no respect and can leave them not so clean. However if brought to staff attention they deal with the matter as soon as they possibly can. I can’t recommend the rose and crown enough we love it there.

Was a little worried after reading some reviews but don’t go expecting a Haven site for the money you pay! On arrival the pub car park doesn’t look very inviting but get past first impressions & it’s fine.. inside the pub is a bit dated but it was clean. All staff were very friendly & happy to help you. Mark showed us to our pitch, very friendly & always joking & I think it was Dougie that helped position our van. Our pitch was fine, next to our friends & near the park as we had requested. We wondered if we’d done the right thing booking near the park but no children were out making noise past 10pm whilst we were there. We went Thursday to Sunday & the only noisy night was Saturday which I think was from the pub. The worst bit of this was the drunk people walking back to their tent or caravan being loud & not respecting other people. The pool is great for the kids & is run really well having a booking system. Often saw the chemicals being checked & the pool area being cleaned. We had tea at the pub which was all cooked fresh & it was lovely. Cajun chicken kebab was delicious The bin areas were over flowing on arrival but these were emptied the following day. Toilet & shower block need a deep clean / updating - dirty vents, Cobwebs, marks on ceilings & walls etc but overall they were clean & always had soap & toilet roll. The showers were nice & powerful. We saw them being cleaned daily around mid day.No plug in the washing up sinks & often left with food waste in the sink & around the area.. This should be cleaned after the person who last used it so not really a fault of the site.We enjoyed our few days here.. A bit of a random site with no strict rules like some sites. Like I said earlier, get past the first impressions, remember the price you’re paying & don’t expect a Haven site then hopefully, you’ll have a good break too

This was a two night stopover for a group of football parents for a tournament nearby.Originally we were going to camp, but when we saw they had statics and for £55 per night for two bedrooms, seemed good value. Its cheap for a reason - salubrious it definitely isn't. Its spacious and reasonably clean, although the bedrooms were pretty musky and unsure when the bedding was changed. For an essential stopover, such as ours, it served a purpose. For a family holiday, it just isn't clean enough - sorry.Saying that, the outside pool is a definite bonus, and my kids had a great time.Enjoy it for what it is...

We have just returned after cutting short our stay as we literally couldn’t put up with another night here! We have camped lots and lots and this is the worst place we have ever come across! Yes we thought originally it’s cheap & cheerful and we can’t grumble for the money we paid but as we got further into our stay this was not the case it’s not cheap & cheerful it’s literally terrible! We had left booking late and stumbled across this and thought let’s give it a try! This site has potential but actually just needs closing down & completely re building!!!! The pool was a nice little touch however there was no lifeguard and within 5 mins of opening it was filthy! The park was ok...... needs some tlc! The food was good and reasonably priced however the bar as with the rest of any facilities buildings needs knocking down and re building, it was filthy and seemed all make shift! Quite pricy for what it was! The toilets were horrific! Literally poo smeared on the walls in the cubicle! There was poo on the actual outside of the toilet for 3 days! So that basically sums up how frequent they are cleaned! They were so disgusting!! There are not enough toilets for the number of guests at all! The showers pretty much the same absolutely disgusting and again not enough for how many guests were there! There were 3 toilets in the ladies and literally 3 showers for the whole site! There must have been at least in excess of 200 people there! The entrance to the toilets/ showers flooring was like a sponge that was so filthy! I saw ONE cleaner the whole time and she was mopping up with literally black water just swishing the mop around and then putting the mop into the black water! The washing up facilities were ok just not big enough (again only 3 sinks)and again filthy but tbf this could have been prevented by other people clearing up after themselves! We were there over Bank Holidays every single bin was over flowing upon our arrival and 4 nights later had still not been emptied!!! Disgusting!! Literally Everything was literally falling to pieces, faulty, broken or rotten! There was a laundry room that had one washer and dryer in but couldn’t be used without getting the owner who had to get it working as it didn’t work when coins entered!! We felt we couldn’t complain because it was only £20 a night but that shouldn’t mean the hygiene was as bad as it was! There was a terrible storm one night and lots of people in tents literally flooded , people with babies & disabilities... all the guests were rallying around to help each other as some tents inside were ankle deep in water.we were lucky , the weather can’t be helped and you can prepare as much as you think you can for all weathers that’s part of camping, however after the storm we over heard owners/ staff laughing/ sniggering about some of the situations/ guests after the storm... I felt this was awful and just about summed up the whole place!! They showed no compassion or empathy for the fact that paying guests , paying there wages in effect were in some cases in disaster situations, it really was that bad! There was no organisation upon checking in/ out and literally everyone was cramped in next to each other and I mean squashed together, I would say not even a metre between each tent / caravan so absolutely no privacy at all! I heard lots of complaints when people were pitching up because it was stupidly cramped which would reflect the lack of organisation around bookings. There is no shop either which if there was &(the site was better) it would be good thing for the owners as there was nothing walking distance to buy essentials... the whole place had a massive mosquito problem! Yes you get them outdoor/ camping but every single person was covered in bites! We had all sorts of sprays, wipes, candles & wristbands and all of us were terribly badly bitten another reason we couldn’t last another night , our legs particularly became really sore! I never usually get bitten and my legs, arms, even chin! Back and bottom!!!! Are covered! As soon as the sun was going my body was fully covered clothing wise with the sprays etc and everyday I had loads more bites! Again the owners/ staff seemed to joke about this saying it’s part of camping.... maybe so to a certain extent but given the foul facilities. I wonder! The problem was massive again worst we’ve ever come across in ten years of camping. We definitely would not return here unless it had been knocked down and completely re built.

The swimming pool and the play area are ok for the kids (no life guard on)that's why the 1 point, after that this place is awfull the toilets are disgusting there was poo all on the toilet door and rubbed in on the floor, the toilets are not big enough for the site. The people that were pitched near our tent were so loud shouting and swearing all the time till early hours of the morning, with the size of the site there should be security on driving round keeping it quiet at that time of nite, i didn't complain incase of repercussions as they were in big groups. The guy who shows you to you pitch his language was shocking thinking it's funny to be swearing when kids are about and the breakfast was awful please don't use this place there is so much better out there for the same money

On arrival went to book in, not on their list, luckily we were non electric camping so they managed to fit us in. Was put on a site right next to where it looked like a bonfire had been and just behind that a dumped pile of old household items including sofas, the area we were in was also terribly smelly. Horrendously mauled by mosquitoes (luckily my 2year old only got one) asked the barmaid if they had any issues with them “yes, every summer but their isn’t anything they can do about them” she said..... Possibly warn people to bring repellant may be a start?! Swimming pool has no life guard, the lager was terribly flat, water in toilets was close to boiling hot and the toilets cleanliness... well I’ve seen cleaner in a festival portaloo. I love camping, been to many places but this was less than desirable and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

Stayed here for one night having booked for two. The positives - the people that run the site are genuinely lovely and couldn’t do enough for you. The negatives - tents and caravans are right on top of each other and there was music being played loudly by one group until the early hours. The toilets were cleaned regularly but the other guests took no care of them, leaving them dirty and unusable. Someone even vomited in the sink and it stayed there until the following morning. The toilet and shower buildings are small and run down. Service at the bar was incredibly slow. Won’t stay again as there seems to be no respect shown by some of the other guests, which ruins it for everyone. Two stars as I know the staff try hard.

I am very aware that this is a persons livelihood so I will be as constructive as possible. After visiting the site last year, 2 large pitches were booked for two weeks. However, when we arrived we were asked to pitch in a very small space due to ongoing problems between the site and neighbours. Our tents ware far to big and we were eventually pitched far away (near the bins) but that was fine, we had plenty of room. Access to the pitches is troublesome due to huge potholes which in the rain flooded and did not smell to good, however the drainage on the field was good. Showers were lovely however need to be cleaned more often as do the toilets. The pool is lovely and is a great asset to the site. The pub food is lovely and is great value for money. Some of the campers need to be a bit more mindful of their language, very colourful first thing in the morning. All in all this campsite has potential however feels unfinished.

On our way in the rain and with 7 kids ,3 adults we was reading the reviews and we did kind of get a little scared but after being there for not even 5 minutes we realized the reviews we had looked at were utter rubbish , taking into account its school holidays ,throwing it down and thunder storms , tents set up and gazeebo , kids went in HEATED outside pool whilst we were busy , God the pool is a God send , showers were great and toilets , always had toilet roll , floors always cleaned through day and night ,but as you can imagine it thrown it down all weekend kids running in and out, bins were always emptied soon as full, all electric points reachable but iv been in alot where there little further away, alot of space, very friendly staff will help with anything and anytime , especially a guy called mark(groundsman) sells very reasonable priced foods and the drinks, well youd be in there all night on those prices and dont shut till you leave , and the selections of gins are amazing, after our two days we didnt want to go home so they managed to get us 2 tourers and we stayed even longer , theres a Tesco a short journey away also ,this is NOTHING like the bad reviews it got at all we are going back and will always go back with or without the children, even the locals go in,all so very friendly and welcoming , the only one thing maybe signal but I'm not being funny YOUR CAMPING ,if no faults what so ever and believe me I'm the sort of person to look for them hahaha.

after reading some reviews for this place we was little nervous ,especially as we was having a weekend of rain in our tents with 3 adults and 7 children but soon as we got there we realised they were untrue , this is a lovely campsite and amazing staff ,the showers and toilets were great, bins emptied soon as full and as you can imagine its the kids holidays so very busy the pub is great and drinks and food cheap as ever ,the staff couldn't do enough to help with anything and especially one of the groundsman ( mark ) what a guy funny as ever, made our stay even more fun ,we was meant to be staying for 2 days but in the end nobody wanted to leave and that was with the rain and thunder, we ended up renting 2 tourers and staying 5 nights in total, the heated pool was a God send for the kids , we 110% recommended this place and we'll always be going back , be with the children or friends, we didnt want to leave ourselfs ,but had things to come home to ,sad to leave but booking our next visit end of the week ,so relaxed and layed back ,could of easily stayed a month and even better with the wash room ,theres also Tesco a short journey away ,once your there you'll definitely find hard to leave . from zoe DoncasterCan’t wait to go bk and missing u already mark

We book 3 nights camping with EHU. When we arrived all the staff were very friendly, and easy going. We managed to pitch up our large tents next to our friends. We were close to everything. The campsite facilities were great. Including park, heated pool, hot tub, and games room (although a little dated). The pub provides great value drinks and meals, and I had the best steak and ale pie ever! We ate there a couple of times and each time everyone had clean plates, including our picky kids. Overall it’s a great little campsite, just needs a little TLC in areas, but we have said we would definitely recommend and return

No frills country pub which serves excellent food. Varied menu, we tried several different dishes which arrived hot and all were tasty. The campsite has all the amenities one requires, hot showers which were clean, and toilets which we found clean. I cannot understand the previous comments from people, we have stayed on many campsites where you have to connect to an electric point some distance away. As to bins overflowing, the bins were emptied on Friday whilst we were there and on Monday when we left they were full again, hardly the fault of the site, but more campers creating so much rubbish. Nothing wrong with the outdoor seating, and the covered area for smokers was a delight, even a tv screen to keep upto date with sports or news. All in all we had a pleasant 5 nights here and would visit again.

We have just returned home after staying one night here. We booked 2 nights but couldn’t stand to stay the extra night. When we arrived, we couldn’t believe how many caravans and tents there were, very close together. Didn’t expect the campsite to be that big. Went to the toilets and they weren’t too bad, must’ve not long been cleaned. Walked over to the pub seating area and thought it looked a bit run down. Son liked the play area. Went into the games room as my son wanted to play pool, and thought we’d gone back in time! It was dirty, outdated and run down. The pool cue had no tip so decided against it. We didn’t bother staying for a drink in the pub. There was about 20 people having a party right near our caravan until about 11/11.30, with the music on full blast. No consideration for the other guests. No signal in the caravan or outside and the power kept cutting off. Will be staying on sites that don’t allow group bookings from now on, and sites that are a lot cleaner, and don’t have caravans so close to each other!

booked here for 2 nights along with two other family’s we know. This place is dirty scruffy untidy and very run down! Have the people on the camp site actually live there! Got speaking to a couple who lived there who were nice & recommended us not to let our children go in the pool as a couple of days previous ally od children had got poorly from it! The bins were OVERFLOWING on the Friday when we arrived just after lunch & we left Sunday morning and hadn’t even been emptied it was gross!!! Food was just as bad waited nearly an hour for take away to get back to our van & our meat was undercooked & children’s pizza burnt to a crisp. The toilet blocks were disgusting put it this was I wouldn’t even use the sink to wash my pots up it was that dirty. Such a shame as the photos from from owners look so nice...that’s definitely not how the site is! I named this site “the Jeremy Kyle campsite” but if that’s your things please do visit if not I would stay away personally it is a very dirty place. Put it this way one of the family’s went home after the first night as was disgusted and we left very early as we just wanted to get home after what we had encountered over the weekend! Seriously tho if the openers read this the buns are a serious health hazard! Rather than trying to save money on not getting them emptyied regularly do the right thing & get this place cleaned up!

Having got to site, we were very disappointed. Perhaps we were expecting something similar to our last outing at Winster Derbyshire at the Miners Standard. That camp site with the Pub/Restuarant was excellent. Unfortunately we found the rose and Crown quite the opposite. Not really any warm friendly encounters with staff. The cleaning lady was quite pleasant. Showers were hot. Cannot say more.

We drove on to the site with our tourer, looked around for 20 minutes and left. We are caravan club members and kind of use that as our benchmark. This place doesn’t even compare. It was like a builders site cum disused field. Random rubble here and there. Bins looked like they hadn’t been emptied in weeks. The beer garden and pub just had too many beer swilling fellas, not my scene with a family of 3 young children. I actually felt intimidated. I am struggling to find anything positive to say about it.

We booked here for over the bank holiday as we had left it a little late and most places were full. It was soon evident why there were pitches still available whwn we arrived. The site is run down and dirty. Bins are over flowing and old caravans dumped in corners was like a danger zone for kids. It says the ladies has been refurbished so I would have hated to see them before. Smelly and dirty toilets with exposed electrical wires. Now I know bank holidays are busy and the campers would help if they cleared up after themselves but both mornings I was in the toilets when the cleaner came in. The sink area was wiped with a dirty cloth and no cleaning products, the dirt was just 'swished' around and not actually cleared. The floor was not swept and a dirty mop was flicked around half the floor. The middle toilet had something on the seat the whole weekend so clearly not wiped. The toilets were stained and grubby. We ventured to the pub once but the seating outside left a lot to be desired. My husband picked a stool up to move it and the seat was not attached. We have camped on many sites over bank holidays and expect it not to be spotless but have never stayed anywhere like this.

I was very disappointed with the campsite the shower block is disgusting and had to take our own toilet roll most of the time. The site is like a building yard with really poor electric hook ups. The hook ups are very far away from the pitches so you have to trail leads across site. Very unsafe. The children could not swim in the pool it was freezing cold Compared to the photos nothing like it will not be returning.I can not even give it a star for the rating (rate it I don’t)

Stopped at the R & C for two nights last weekend via the campsite. Whilst it's evident a lot of hard work is being put in by the new owners of the pub/campsite (new shower block etc) it's clear there is still some way to go in getting this site up to the great facility it really could be, for camping.Unfortunately due to the traffic, we arrived quite late in the afternoon on Friday - 3pm. We were advised that we could pitch up wherever, so in other words, we didn't have a designated pitch. All well and good - but we had been left with a pitch in the back field next to two disused caravans, one of which was propped up with a chair (?), the other in such a state of disrepair it looked like it could have fallen down at any time. Next to the carvans was rubbish (wiring, abandoned shoes, even!) so this was really quite disappointing. It should be the case that pitches are designated upon booking - or the field needs a serious tidy up at that end as a matter of some urgency. Not sure why it was so, but there was a large number of flies around the pitch and needless to say, we were bitten to smithereens and our first job on Saturday was to visit the nearest pharmacy for bite cream and sprays. The state of the toilets was a bit disappointing - given the site was busy, I felt they probably should have been checked a bit more regularly. However, the newly renovated shower block is excellent, no complaints there - although I can imagine that 4 showers for an entire site perhaps isn't enough during peak season. The bins were overflowing by the time we left - rubbish was being placed all around them which was no doubt probably going to attract the local wildlife. More regular collections are clearly necessary in peak season. It looked awful - and smelt awful. This really does need to be addressed.Contrary to what others have said (and also on the pitch.up com website, which is where campers have left reviews) I didn't hear noise off other campers. If anything, everyone on site seemed courteous in relation to being quiet in the evening. The only noise of concern was the constant sound of shot guns being fired (?!) - this, apparently, was locals shooting birds. It was tolerable-ish in the day - but not from 5am on Sunday morning. There were a lot of children on the campsite and it was quite concerning that they were being allowed to run amok around the pub/children's playground area without any supervision - that is not the concern of site management, which I fully appreciate - more the case of inconsiderate parents not watching and reining in their kids when it was appropriate for them to do so. I certainly don't want to be sat enjoying a quiet pint with my mate and having screaming kids running past my table every minute - would you? Just something to keep in mind if you visit peak season! We ate in the pub on Saturday evening and I have to say the food was excellent both in terms of quality and value. Drinks are also a good price and staff working in the pub are extremely pleasant. There is a local who is in desperate need of some attention to his personal hygiene, shall we say, but that is hardly the fault of the staff or anyone else in the pub!!!!I would definitely stop again but would hope that minor improvements could be made as detailed. Good luck with the hard work you're clearly undertaking with your business.

We stayed here for three nights with friends who had children, we don't usually choose sites full of children so this may have clouded our view slightly. The first night we ate in the pub and, to be fair, the food was of a reasonable quality. There was a bit of a wait for our order to be delivered but we took this to be a good sign that the food was being freshly prepared. The site, by contrast, was dirty and undermanaged! People pitched where they wanted to, toilets were dirty, bins were overfilled, children were running riot around the site.In short, food and beer were good but we won't come back, sorry.

First came to see this site when it was literally a building site, roads were just being put in etc. Spoke to the Landlord of the pub who told me in detail of the plans he had for the site, based on this chat I booked a seasonal pitch for my caravan. Everything the Landlord said he wanted to do has been done or in the process of; roads are in 1 new stunning shower block installed (a second one is due shortly) discreet lights installed, pub painted outside etc.The pub is excellent with friendly staff, great real ales and good food, you cannot ask for more...oh they do a massive breakfast for about £6 which is a challenge to finish!!!Yes the site was rammed on Bank Holiday Weekend, but what do you expect for August Bank Holiday, the Landlord warned us the week previous that he was going to be busy but as we had 4 kids with us we came anyway, and glad we did!! Sunday was Family Fun Day, Bucking Bull ride, inflatable castle, and gladiators style pummel stick game along with other entertainment kept the kids happy all day and at £2.50 for a pass that gave the kids unlimited goes it was a bargain, which pretty much sums up this site... a total bargain and a bit of a gem.

Having stayed at this quiet pub garden type camping site before earlier in the year it was a shock to see so many tents caravans and campervans when we arrived on Saturday before the August Bank holiday Monday. It was organised chaos. I had reserved quite some time ago two tent pitches with electric next to each other, which we got but they weren't reserved so to speak and we were squeezed in very closely to a caravan one side and a tent the other. We informed the chap that showed us in that we had booked electric and he was very helpful by going to get extension leads to ensure we had a supply to our pitches.Saturday night was very very noisy and because so many amps were being pulled through the electric it went out but was fixed quickly, Sunday morning dawned and the inadequate amout of showers quickly became apparent with some queing for 40 minutes for one, I got board waiting and as our trip out that day was taking me back past my front door 10 mins away I just nipped home for one. Bins around the site were overflowing with rubbish and a nice big pile of dog poo had appeared behind our car. When we returned to the site later that day things had got even worse, the already dirty toilets from the sheer amount or use were blocked and were creating a dreadful smell, the already overflowing bins were now being surrounded with black backs and in the boiling sun were creating a new dire smell all on their own. But the good part was lots of people had left, making everything a little less chaotic. Monday midday arrived and even more people had left, easing the pressure on the morning showers scenario and the u bends of the toilets, no more blockage yay. On Monday evening a group of caravans turned up all together and set up very close to each other near the toilet block area. Then later that night a load of contractors vans were parked next to the caravans, probably not worth mentioning but It did seem a little strange, all the contractors were friendly and polite but it just seemed a little unusual.Wednesday morning arrived and the rubbish was all gone, the toilets were cleaned, the grass was being cut and everything seemed like it had returned to normality. We decided to leave a day early bit this was due to the weather being forecast to rain on the Saturday and I don't like putting a tent away in the rain.Right now time for a bit of realism. We looked about before booking this site and some holiday parks wanted nearly £600 for 7 nights camping with electric for the week we stayed, this place was just over £100 for the same number of nights for the same week with electric. As the saying goes you get what you..... I'll let you finish the rest.Facilties. Toilets showers etc. I have been to some very expensive sites over a bank holiday weekend to be greeted with the same issues as I experienced here, it's just they seemed to happen all at once here.Improvements since last time I was here. The showers, although there aren't enough of them,,, yet,,, were amazing, probably the best camp site showers I have used, plenty of privacy, plenty of room, good pressure and plenty of hot water and clean. This in my book is one thing that is a must when your family camping.Electric, nearly all areas can have an electric supply.Things that I think still need to be improved.Number of pitches. Decide how many pitches you can sensibly have and stick to it, even if you bung another few quid on per night, it's still a bargain. This would have maybe not prevented but helped with the drains, the showers scenario, and the closeness of tents/caravans and the amount of rubbish produced. Staff, maybe with some of that extra on top per night that I suggested a few cleaners, 1 even just for Friday to Monday to ensure that toilets didn't run out toilet paper,(which they did) and to ensure that the toilet and grounds remained clean and tidy(which they didn't).A better play area. This site definitely welcomes family's but the play area is makeshift, there is a small arcade games area but apart from this there is nothing for children to do other than kick a ball about and on Saturday and Sunday that was impossible. To summarise. This site with a bit more care and more investment like that which has already been shown will make it great. Currently The food and drink from the pub is amazimg, the site under normal circumstances is great value for money. If your looking for something on a budget with a bar and a friendly reception with an electric hook up you won't go far wrong here. Remember currently its £16 per night with electric. If you want privet hedges and numbered pitches with Street lighting and manicured grass go somewhere else and pay 4 times the price.

Got to site and there was no where to park!! We have a camper van & had paid extra for a marquee... We drove round the site & everyone was inches away from one another! Not my idea of a peaceful camping holiday. When I asked at the bar where we were supposed to park the bloke told me either in the corner at the end of the field (you would fit a fiat 500 in the space!) but he proceeded to tell me if it rains it gets really wet... Then we were shown a spot next to the shower/toilet block where there were also a load of children playing (again no room for the gazebo) Needless to say we didn't park there to get disturbed by people all night long & a show campervan hit by children & people scraping passed! No refund was offered! Really really disappointed!

We decided to stay here for a couple of nights to break the journey home from our holiday in Cromer. When we approached the Rose and Crown we were a little apprehensive as there appeared to be no guidance as to where to pull in. However on entering the bar area, we were told to pitch up wherever we wanted. This is definitely a work in progress, is under new management, and is going in the right direction with the enthusiasm of the owners. On the second night we ate in the pub and enjoyed a lovely meal at a reasonable price. There was two real ales on sale when we were there and I cant recommend the "Swallow" enough. We have tents. Big tents. We had reserved two pitches but when we arrived these were not reserved and initially we were offered two pitches with no grass! We refused and a lady out of the pub (who we felt had been pushed out to take the flack) trotted round the campsite trying to find something - which was impossible as it was all full. She did offer to unplug someone else's electricity as they were away! There were piles of rubbish all around and the roads were barely distinguishable from the balding grass. The toilets and showers were scruffy and dirty and really put the tin hat on it!! It was so bad that we just left to find another site - with two tents three kids and three dogs in tow! Oh yes - the 'and' had dropped off the signage on the front of the pub and so it was known from there on in as The Rose (pause) Crown!! Whatever you do - don't stay here. Unless of course you're fresh of the set of Jeremy Kyle and you'll fit right in!

We had booked two adjacent pitches with electric hook up for our tents at the Rose & Crown. On arrival we were immediately disappointed. The pub itself was scruffy and unkempt. We went into the pub to book in and it was apparent that they had forgotten our booking and our pitches were not reserved. First we were offered a space which was ungrassed - for tents??! Then we were offered a little corner near a pile of rubble with no electric hookup unless we unplugged a caravan whose owners weren't there? The toilet block was shabby and dirty. The site itself had piles of rubble about and was again very tatty and scruffy. The whole place was a disaster and we asked for our money back - which was begrudgingly given. It was so bad that we left without knowing if we could find anywhere else. We would even have just driven the two hours straight home rather than stayed there. Luckily we found a beautiful site only 15 minutes way. Do not even consider staying here!!

Always a friendly greeting and a good selection of real ales kept well at great prices. Range of food offered is excellent with large portions at traditionally low 'pub prices'. New owners are making a number of improvements. Large garden and camping/caravan site adjacent.

On this experience toast was excellent, service was excellent and atmosphere was excellent, we only had toast, no one else at counter and the company I was with made it even better....

The staff here are friendly and welcoming. There's a pool table by the bar and a dining area on the opposite side and a small outside seating area at the rear. It all looks quite homely. We have visited this place on a number of occasions and there's always a good atmosphere. We had a delicious Sunday roast here today, all nicely cooked and very tasty. We also visit sometimes on a Wednesday evening when they have certain events, such as a disco or quiz. A finger buffet is sometimes included and this is always a tasty treat. Can't rate this place highly enough. It's a good, friendly town centre pub and has become something of a local for us as we don't live too far away. Highly recommended. 5*
