Cosy, friendly pub with great choice of food. Stopped here for lunch to refuel on a hike around the area. Lots of hearty food on the menu which is exactly what we wanted on a cold day!

5 of us called in after a walk intent on a drink and maybe food. But we weren't acknowledged at all and waited 10 mins with no service so left. Shame really as we had heard good things about the place.

Excellent food which was quickly delivered . The suet pudding had a very generous amount of tender meat and nice fresh vegetables. The chilli con carne was lovely- just the right amount and not too spicy. Drinks good too. A lovely spot for lunch after excellent walks in the surrounding woodlands. Personally I find the ban on smoking and vaping in the grounds, a big positive.

It's really hard to find a pub that is wheelchair friendly, dog friendly and vegan friendly, but this one ticks all the boxes! The young lad who served us on a couple of occasions is absolutely the nicest most attentive waiter and all the staff are super friendly and accommodating.

No food available yet again. My wife and I have moved into the immediate vicinity 9 months ago and this lovely old pub is our local within walking distance. Great beer garden and when we had food there 2 years ago it was good and simple. We have had a totally different experience over the last 3 months when we have visited on three separate occasions. The first time in May, on a Saturday lunch time the bar person greeted us with “ I can give you a drink but don’t know when I can take your food order”. One drink and 40 minutes later, no progress with placing our food order or advice as to when we could get some food. Paid our bill and left totally dissatisfied like several others who came in while we were waiting. Visited again a week ago on a hot Friday afternoon at 2.45. Greeted by the landlord with “we’re closing at 3”. No offer of a drink or any attempt to enter into a conversation with potentially new regular customers who live within walking distance. Final attempt to forge a relationship with this business was at 6.30 pm on Thursday (food is served supposedly from 6.30). Entered the pub to be greeted by a notice on the bar advising drinks only ie no food again. We left without seeing anyone. After 3 visits, 3 disappointments in 3 months and nothing to encourage a 4th visit. What a shame.

The pub was cold had to keep my coat on. The landlord was indifferent to the point of rudeness. The food was warm by the time it reached the table and considering there was only another party of three we were surprised. The bathrooms smelt uncared for. Considering I've been going here for 15 or more years and had recommended it very disappointing and we won't be going back.

Decided to go somewhere different for lunch, ended up at the Rose and Crown. First impressions of the outside a bit grey looking, but to be fair it was a grey sort of day, rainy and the like, imagine it's very pretty nestled in the countryside on a warm sunny day. We went inside, it was very chilly and I kept my coat on for the first half hour, lovely fireplace just no fire, considering it was a grey damp day was expecting to be welcomed by a lovely fire. The bar staff was very nice and helpful.we ordered our food, it came out fairly quickly and was very nice, despite having 2 lots of potato, I had fish pie with mashed potato on and also new potatos, the filling to the pie was tasty but didn't have a lot of sauce with it. I noticed that there were several dogs in the pub and asked if it was ok to bring dogs in and was assured that it was ok. Looks like some lovely walks through the woods outside. All that being said, we would go back, just maybe when it's warmer.

What a lovely pub!! Set in a fantastic location right next to the wonderful Perry Woods, this charming pub has the nicest beer garden I have even been in. There was also a different selection of beers than the usual ones you see in most pubs, I enjoyed a couple of pints of Bitburger and the service was very welcoming. The kids will love exploring the garden and watching the chickens that are kept there. We visited on Saturday 12th August as a party of 7 for a relatives birthday treat. The pub and it’s location is absolutely gorgeous. Really quaint, and with a stunning garden area which has chickens (fenced off) and even a little see saw for the children. The menu on offer had loads of choice and all of us easily found something we wanted to order. Food came in a reasonable time and was really really good. Hot and tasty! The sundaes on the dessert menu are delicious too! Good selection of drinks, cosy ambience, and friendly staff. Ideal for a quiet meal, in a picturesque setting. We will definitely go back! Food took a long time to come, although was of good quality. Seeing the chef have to come and wave the bar man round to come and collect the food was interesting...took longer to do that than just bring it himself as the bar was "busy". More staff needed

Dogs welcome on leads and good parking to the rear if parking spaces full at the front. Terrific area for walking and because the land is high here and the soil generally well drained it is great for winter walks when other areas are impassable. THIS IS A DIRTY HOTEL. Bleach water doesn't make it clean. Do not waste your money. This hotel is nasty and dirty, and the food was awful. And the staff and their service were even worse. The hotel needs to shut down and be rebuilt. Spa , jacuzzi is not working. We didn't even get the pass we asked for. And people who did had to get staff to let them in. We walked around, but we were told that these had been broken for the past few days before we booked, but we were not informed of this. Before our arrival. No one told us about this at the time of booking or afterwards. We were still under the impression from the website booking.com that this was a spa hotel. How very disappointing. And misleading totally. The room was dirty, the receptionist said l can only leave a message for the manager when we complained. No one spoke with us. And it was too late to book anywhere else. the sink in the bathroom was broken and glued back together. Rusty bin, dirty shower, water only dribbled out. There was no water pressure, there was dirty floors, cobwebs, and hair of all sorts on the floors. The carpets in the bedroom had loads of stains. Bed base was all torn and stained. The kettle had loads of limescale in it. But when we boiled it and poured the water out, the limescale kept coming out every time. So we couldn't even have a cup of tea. There was a flashing pedestrian light outside that came through the curtains. So, sleep was not an option. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I don't recommend any food. And the coffee was cold. We had to get our own cutlery as none of them were on the table.

I recently had reason to contact Greggs head office following a visit to this branch. When I informed them that I wanted to eat-in, they said that I had to give them my details. I gave them the information asked for, but felt uncomfortable with the manner that my details were taken. The information I provided was typed into a tablet held behind the counter. Once provided, I sat down. I decided to speak to the manager about my concerns. He was unable to provide me with any information about where my data would be held, for how long and what use my data would be put to. He indicated that it was for COVID and nothing further. I pointed out that I was wearing a mask to prevent spreading this illness and not one staff member was. He said that it was personal choice. I contacted head office to ask what their data protection policies were and was offered a general explanation, not related to what this branch was doing. Anyway, their head office said that shop staff should NOT be stopping entry into the restaurant because of anyone not giving personal data. Today I returned and staff are doing the same thing. Still nothing about data is displayed in store and no explanation about how the information is used.

I found this online as I wanted to take my Mum for tea and cake somewhere, so off we went. After quite a search (using SatNav) we eventually found it. It’s exactly as we’d hoped - warm and cosy, excellent staff, delicious cakes and a really good pot of tea. Definitely glad we persevered and we will go again for sure. Lovely 👌

Booked a table online, which was the bar area. Wasn’t told to that we need to order at the bar for food so sat there for 40 minutes would have been nice to be told. Then once we ordered was told another 30 minutes wait was expected,. Once we paid at the bar my dad paid and completely forgot that we had a 30% off mains, so went up and mentioned the to the tall skinny guy behind the bar as was told basically tuff, as you didn’t state this at time of purchase, which in my opinion is a disgrace. After paying waiting 30 minutes for started then sat there for 40 minutes with our starter plates still on the table, not happy and this place I would not go back to again, as the service and the attitude of the staff, was easily 1 out of 10 don’t recommend going here with kids as my kids have now been up an hour later than their bedtime, cos of crap service.
