Gunpowder Mill in Swale

My friends and I had lunch there and had the menu offer. It was really good value for money and the gammon was cooked to perfection. Our waitress Faith was very efficient and polite but was run off her feet. My one criticism is that you don't employ enough staff. Your organisation needs to take holidays into planning as otherwise you will lose the excellent staff who are having to cope.

Have eaten here several times as it's an ideal meeting location for a gathering of three of us. There are frequently unavailable items on the menu and the service is hit or miss. A shame but next time we meet, we're looking elsewhere.

A lovely Sunday service - great dinner, as a veggie they had a great tasty option. Our server Emma, was very kind and accommodating to us (with allergies). An incredibly comfortable and enjoyable experience all round, thank you, we will be returning

I met with some family for a birthday celebration and we all had such a wonderful time. The venue was perfect. The food was amazing, especially the caramel tart-best pudding I have had in a long time! Our waitress Emma was very accommodating. Will 100% be planning a return visit

Friendly staff and lovely food, New menu giving lots of new things to try

Food was very expensive for what it was just very basic pub food, service was fine but nothing special, used to like this pub but the prices are just too high now for the the type of food they are serving won’t be going back.

NEW MENU ! Absolutely gorgeous. Well all really enjoyed our meal -family of 4 3 ordered from new food that was added and it was so good, cooked to perfection. All plates clean, now that’s a brilliant sign, will definitely recommend and go again without hesitation. Staff were very attentive and friendly, nice atmosphere perfect. 10/10 well done

The environment, service, food and value for money were excellent

Our food (three roast dinners) was cold on arrival. We had to send it back and the member of staff was very apologetic, but was not what we expected. It was an expensive meal for what we experienced. £74.14 for three roasts, one Guinness and two glasses of white wine. The poor staff looked rushed off their feet and the lady behind the bar was not friendly (I guess overworked and tired). Very disappointed and would not return or recommend.

we arrived to be told roast dinners were sold out. waitress said she'll be back to take our drinks order to the tell us a list of other items not available on the menu. disappointed we then made the decision to leave. wouldn't recommend and probably will not return table was booked so restaurant had details so could've have called to tell us. most of the menu was unavailable. it was too late for us to make alternative arrangements as other places were by then all busy & booked

Foods ok, wasn’t overly impressed with the sea base & little sauce, not much on the plate for the price.The time before that we went for Sunday lunch, had to clean a table in the bar area, which another couple laughed about saying they did the same too.. I ordered beef after a long wait got brought pork !! which i would not have ordered, as do not like pork. The girl was insisting I had, then got told it will be a long wait to get the beef as they are so busy .. which was not good as my husband had his food, she then arrives maybe 10 mins later with the most fattiest beef hidden by the massive Yorkshire pudding. I really should have said at the time but as she did not believe I had NOT asked for the beef when we ordered, which was very disappointing and put a big damper on the lunch. Our plates did not get taken away, maybe as on this occasion they were short staffed sadly which I do get but rudeness is not except able when a customer is saying in a calm way. Think it’s just popping in for a drink in the future..

Family Sunday meal. Table of 12. As we were seated, we were informed; No roast, no chicken, no salads, no kebab, no chicken burgers. We asked what WAS available. Disappointed before we even started . We made do with what was on offer - however portion size of veg was minuscule. Looked like each pea had been counted out. Ended our meal with coffees, except there were no lattes / cappuccinos etc. Only black or white coffee. Overall really poor experience for our long awaited family get together . Wished I chosen somewhere else :-(

First can I say that the food and the service we received at the Gunpowder Mill Faversham on Sunday 26/1/25 was excellent. Disappointingly though, on arrival we were informed that many items on the menu would not be available. Although they did try to ring beforehand, we were already on our way driving so the call couldn't be answered. We would like to visit again and sincerely hope that the food delivery arrangements and coffee machine functionality will be fully operational.

I booked for a party of 19 of us for my birthday with 2 weeks notice. We arrived after all of us travelling from sheerness to be told there was basically no food. To say I’m disgusted is an understatement. How can you take a booking of this size and not have anything for us to order. No apologies were given nothing. All I can say is thank god for the jenny wren for saving my birthday celebration

the vegetable tart was extremely over cooked, dry & I was unable to distinguish the flavour that it was purporting to be. The vanilla ice cream was tasteless & the chocolate pudding was dry There were items missing from the menu & they were only able to offer black or white coffee as the machine was not working.

On arrival informed no chicken breasts and no steak as they had not had a delivery. Chose the £14 lunch menu - fish goujons and chips- 3 fish goujons on the plate the size of my little finger. The chocolate pudding ice cream tasted of nothing. Coffee- the coffee machine was not working and what was served was like dishwasher water. Did not taste or smell like coffee. Been here many times and unlikely to return.

We came for scummy desserts and coffee and were not disappointed. Generous portions and delicious. The kitchen should be super proud of what they turn out. Will be back soon.

After numerous dismal visits, with a lacklustre service, it’s a breath of fresh air to what appears to be new management running the show. A thoroughly pleasurable and welcoming experience, to what can only be down to a confident, well versed manager, who has clearly a definitive understanding of how hospitality should be managed. I believe the gentleman at the helm of the ship is Colin, we will be back without a doubt.

Mixed feelings today - booked a special lunch for my wife and i with our two boys and always like this place - food was mainly brilliant (apart from cold gravy and Yorkshire pudding but didn't want to send back because we all wanted to eat at the same time) but the service from our waitress Lorraine was as frosty as the weather outside. On arrival the greeting from the allocated hostess was 'ok' but not warm but the waitress was generally blunt and bordering on standoffish. We had a separate chap and lady bring our food out who were much jollier. Just wanted to feel rather more welcome and wanted. The restaurant itself is lovely - very spacious and good separation between tables and all nice and clean

I was waiting to be seated for a minute or two after coming in due to staff being busy with other things, but one of them said they would be with me as quickly as they could but didnt actually look at me when saying so. bar staff were friendly and helpful. the food came out quickly, albeit it not too quickly i would be suspicious of the preparation. the drink selection was good as was the food, so will certainly return when back in the area at the end of the month

We went here as a party of 20 which included young children. This was part of my wifes 40th birthday celebrations. They were very accomodating making sure we all sat together, the service was on point and April our main point of contact looked after us really well. Meals were really nice, served promptly and they mangaged to get them all out at similar times despite some ordering via the qr code at the table and others via April. Really nice evening in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Would reccommend.

Visited this establishment on 17 December where my partner had ordered the mixed grill. It came out within a reasonable time frame and initially everything was okay. My partner then started to eat the lamb chop and mentioned that it looked quite red. After cutting it open the lamb chop was completely raw inside we made the waitress aware and 10% was taken off of his meal. Later that evening my partner became terribly unwell he could not stop being sick (I have never seen him so unwell) he could not keep anything down. The following day I contacted the restaurant and made them aware although I am not sure if much has been done with regards to this matter I have been made aware that they have followed the protocol in regards to notifying the correct people but whether there is a huge improvement or not I am yet to know. Using something as simple as a probe could eliminate this issue going forward - I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Only one fault, for the price of the prawn cocktail it was very small ,no tomato and no cucumber, overall very tasty.

Had the Sunday Roast at 1.15 and the meat was ok but the veg had obviously been cooked hours before and were all dry shrivelled and cold and the Brussels burnt. The roast potatoes were not in the slightest bit crispy and the yorkshire pudding cold and squashed. The only part of the meal that was hot was the cauliflower cheese that was an additional item. I would not recommend the Roast.

It was nicely laid out and open. I liked the fire and the welcome to dogs. My sister ordered the burger but the cheese wasn’t cheddar but Brie. That was disappointing. My fish ( fish & chips) was top notch. Really wonderful. A few more garden peas would have been nice.

Two of our dishes were forgotten, we finished our meals & two of our party had to wait for theirs. Very snotty manager, made to feel uncomfortable, not friendly at all. Food wasn’t great, steaks & gammon were overcooked. We won’t be retuning. On a positive note our waitress was fun!

Good food, quick service, pleasant staff, lovely decor, tables well spaced, normal pub menu at reasonable prices. Definitely a place to go back to.

Went here to catch up with family, ordered the food at the bar and the bar staff were very friendly. The food took a long time to come out and in the end we had to ask where a mains were. Catch up was ok, and will visit again.

Waitress was fantastic but the roast wasnt very nice. The sausage was raw and they roasted all the veg until the sprouts were black.

Currently sat in gunpowder mill with my mum who is a regular paying customer, ordered a pudding and it tastes foul. Notified a member of staff that did nothing but make excuses instead of treat me like a paying customer and offer to exchange or refund the item that is clearly not suitable for consumption as it has made me feel physically sick 🤢

A very poor christmas day lunch and collectively 10 of us spend £1,000.

Service was very poor, pre booked a festive menu for 2 at 6.30 and didn't get served until 7:30 , over an hour wait for our main. Wasn't even busy in the restaurant at the time of the visit so was unable to understand why it was such a long wait. Waitress was nice and apologetic but given the long wait was still unacceptable in my opinion.

Christmas dinner at the gunpowder mill Faversham was a very pleasing and special experience. All staff were excellent and the food was superb. Couldn’t thank them enough for making Christmas Day very special for us and would highly recommend anyone to enjoy their festive day at the gunpowder mill

Yesterday my partner and I decided to have a nice date at the gunpowder mill, trying it for the first time. We cannot recommend this place enough, the waiters are supremely busy, yet do it with a smile. Especially a lovely lady called Faith, she was rushing about, entertaining customers and giving exceptional service, I accept stress enough that lady deserves a bonus, she made our night. I asked for a more secluded area as I do have hearing trouble and they did oblige which was extremely nice of them, most establishments just plop me next to a loud family, plates clanging but the gunpowder-mill and its waitresses more than made my stay comfortable. The food was heavenly. Whilst I didn’t enjoy the koftas as much as I thought, my partners sticky chicken, mac and chorizo cheese and my pulled pork burger were extremely good, best food I’ve had from a sit down restaurant in ages. The drinks were great, the beer was very fresh, the cocktails were tasty, heavenly even. At the end of this all I can say is, Faith our waitress made our experience amazing, the food was to die for, the cocktails were extremely tasty, the beers even were very fresh. The atmosphere and decor were spectacular. Definitely coming here again. You have a very happy customer.

We had great service from the minute we entered and throughout the evening. The food was outstanding and so was the atmosphere. Our waitress was warm and friendly and made sure everything was ok.

Booked a works Xmas lunch for 12 of us we all had different choices from the main and festive menu, table was set out lovely and fab crackers. All food was tasty hot and came out all together, staff were really attentive and made the lunch very enjoyable. i pre booked all the meals and collected all the monies beforehand and this also was not an issue. Compliments to the chef and all the staff at The Gunpowder Mill. Very reasonable priced meals and drinks

AVOID: Food was disgusting on two separate occasions. First occasion Bangers and Mash the sausages were served burnt so much they were barely edible. Second occasion was "Christmas Dinner" The stuffing was burnt to carbon black, there were items missing from the plate, asked for sauces that didn't arrive until the end of the meal, clearly the chef thinks the customers are stupid and could just short them on items. Standards have dropped. I strongly recommend you AVOID GUNPOWDER MILL.

My first visit here and sadly despite it being a really attractive pub I was very underwhelmed with the food. We had tomato soup starter which was tepid, and cheesy garlic bread which was an undercooked ciabatta with a drizzle of oil and herbs and about half a teaspoon of tasteless cheese. Again this was cold. Mains were ok, at least they were hot this time. Didn't bother with dessert. Staff were pleasant but seemed overrun despite it not being particularly busy, the table beside us who arrived before us were still waiting for their starters when our mains arrived. Unfortunately nobody these days feels comfortable complaining about food in restaurants as we have all heard the horrendous kitchen stories. I wouldn't want to return

As a vegetarian, there was not much of a selection on the menu. We went on a Sunday evening as christmas party. We were given the festive menu to look at. Most of the group had decided to have the roast dinner only to be told they had sold out, nobody had told us this. After the main meal a few people wanted to have a coffee but was then told they had no hot drinks as the machine was broken!. The food was 'okay' but nothing special.

Very busy with lots of parties on. We were just 2 and the staff were under a lot of pressure but were so professional and friendly all the time we were there. Never had any issues always smiling and at hand. Will definitely be back Booked under the name of Kelly Cheers Simon

Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Friendly and engaging staff. Fast service and the option to open a tab and settle at the end of the evening. Fun loving patrons who enjoy a chat and a laugh.

Considering how quite in there service was so slow and ignored in there.

Good fare, good service, good price, especially with voucher. We were there as a group of 5 family of mixed ages, pre-Christmas celebration. We had Emma as our lovely server and she couldn't have done more-friendly, knowledgeable approachable, efficient and really added to our experience. She was very patient with the 100 yo in our group and readily answered my questions around different kinds of cheesecake, well done Gunpowder and Emma!

April was our server this evening. Service was quick meeting us at the door and extremely friendly with a smile always on her face. She was funny, whitty and joked with us and nothing was too much trouble for her. The atmosphere was very christmasy. The food was really good and definitely made my tummy happy. I will definitely be returning!

Faith our server was quite possibly the most amazing person I’ve ever encountered in the hospitality industry. What a beautiful, attentive, funny and quite adorable soul. We will definitely come back just to see her! Thank you Faith! You rock!

Faith who attended to our large group was amazing she was so bubbly and everyone in our group loved her enthusiasm and her smile. She was not boring in the slightest and was able to joke with the group which we all loved! It was our first time at Gunpowder Mill and will not be our last I’m sure. All thanks to Faith!

Lorraine is a very moody waitress, make you feel like you are a nuisance to her. Not welcoming at all. Poor attitude, does not make our visits relaxing. We visit regularly and hope & pray we don’t get this waitress.

This visit was a little disappointing due to what seemed a lack of staff. In no way am I blaming the staff there as they seemed to be working incredibly hard. We waited for over 45minutes for our food order to be taken. The restaurant was busy but wait times were poor. The staff were always polite and apologetic.

Service was a little slow, we were a group of 10 so I understand this is more challenging. The people working there were excellent, friendly, welcoming and attentive and the food arrived hot despite the wait. The veggie tarts were a little disappointing but the steak and ale pies, accompanying vegetables, potatoes and Yorkshires were very nice and the crumble was the favourite dessert. Nice choice of beer and would be very happy to go again.

Initial treatment was fine - shown to table - given requested drinks - main course (no starter) arrived quite quickly. When we finished the problems started!!! After a LONG time a waitress appeared and started to clear nearby tables. I requested her to take our dessert order and she said she would 'be with us in a couple of secs'. She didn't. Wife and I decided we would not have any desserts, went to the till where an older waitress presented us with our bill (with the offer of 30% discounted) and accused us of rudeness! This comment was directed to my wife and a row started. Neither of us was rude, but we felt the customer rights and orders were in a higher priority to clearing tables. I know the lady who is normally in charge , she was not there - this one taking our money was, I guess, the senior one yesterday. She is not worthy of this position of authority and should be sacked. I know we won't be in any chance whatsoever of getting the £250 voucher, but then I very seriously doubt if we will visit this establishment again.

Average food with lofty prices! Ordered the beef & Ale pie..replaced the green beans with baked beans but still charged additional £1 for the beans, which you could fit on a table spoon. See photo. Asked to be sat away from children when booking the table, so obviously we were sat next to a kid having a birthday celebration, so we moved ourselves to the other end of the restaurant. Not the best experience.

Excellent service and food this time, has been hit and miss in the past! Based on this trip, would visit again ans recommend. Last time was like Fawlty Towers!

My steak was beautifully cooked the chips were average and my apple & cherry crumble well all I can say is where was the crumble but the fruit was nice

The food was lovely, the staff were lovely. The timing of service was not so great. One of the drinks ordered was on the menu, a completely different drink was brought out and then when we said that to the waitress, she said they don't do that drink... despite it being on the menu. Another drink was made incorrectly, missed a load of it's usual additions and was charged for 2 drinks when we asked for what the drink is meant to be like. It took forever to get the drinks and have the other drink remade properly and then the food took a while also. Again, I'd like to reiterate that the staff and food were lovely. Timings of everything, not so much.
