This is a popular venue for locals. The staff are friendly and attentive. Food is good but the steak can be hit and miss. Puddings are lovely. Atmosphere is inviting. Unfortunately they tell you how many calories you eating on the menu.😁

Great staff, easy to park, very clean, quick service, there is nothing not to like about this place.

Very interesting site, the visitor centre tells history, nice walk not that long, no cafe but lovely lady made us a cup of tea, free car park shuts 4:00pm, we put some money in charoty box.

This is a convenient venue to meet our grandchildren (college and university age) as their menu offers something to suit all tastes. The service was good and the food delicious

Went there today for my grandson 15th birthday only to be told no roasts no burgers. Not impressed. Won't be going again. The staff were friendly not there fault. Carnt say the same about the manager as surely its up to him to make sure there is plenty of food. Needless to say we didn't stat to eat Thank you for your reply. We have tried other food at your restaurant before. But my Grandson finds it hard to eat some foods and burgers was the only thing he wonted. He persivertly ask to go there for his birthday as he liked your burgers. And we didn't stay and order other food as there was nothing else he liked and as he didn't like anything else is why e didn't stay. Very disappointing for him. Ruined his birthday. And as if you say you stop serving roasts at 5.00 then it should be stated on your menu page. Not let people come expecting a roast. To me this is disgraceful

We had booked a party of 12 on Easter Monday and asked the week before if the Easter menu would be available and were told this was the case. On arrival the Easter menu was not available and we were only able to order from the main menu. Although it was lunch time we were not allowed to use the lunch time menu. We were told the party was too large for the 30% discount voucher. I ordered steak and a side salad and the listed tomatoes and mushrooms consisted of 1 small mushroom and 1 small piece of tomato. The side salad never arrived. We were given reasons (non delivery) for the lack of Easter menu but no real apology. The food was also dreadfully slow to arrive.

Just got back from an absolutely disgusting meal at The Gunpowder Mill, cauliflower wings as a starter, so over cooked they were burnt, halloumi chips freezing cold, lamb koftas were meat balls in tomato sauce, I think you need to learn what lamb koftas are, the kids meals, the sausages looked like they had been reheated, the mashed potato out of a packet, as it was with the pie, which was also disgusting, the chicken tenders were over cooked, the chips cold, the meat on the mixed grill all tasted the same, perhaps you need to do some cleaning in the kitchen to ensure everything taste as it should, the scampi was cold, and some didn't even have the meat in them, they were just the outside crumb, the peas like bullets and the chips again cold, asked if the kids sausage and chips could have peas, and got charged 50p extra, asked if a little more gravy could be had with the pie and got charged £2.50 for half a tiny jar, had to ask for cutlery twice, and as for the waitress, totally gormless, and when we informed her of how the meal was, just stood there and said, I will tell the chef, I don't think you will find whoever it was a chef, more a cook, who needs some lessons, no offer of a discount, or apology, total waste of £132, think twice about eating here, the prices have gone up, everything else has gone down, and we wont be returning, no wonder why we keep receiving discount offers through the door, we now know why.

Decided at the last minute to finally visit this place. Booked a table online. Friendly welcome on arrival. Waitress was very nice. There were only a couple of items they didn't have. We went at lunchtime and it was very noisy and busy. The place had a nice feel to it, and I expect you can fully appreciate this at a quiet time. (If they have one). Great offers on weekday meals. (Will be trying) ordered gammon and chips and hunters chicken (upgraded to buttermilk chicken strips). we both said it was the best hunters chicken we have had anywhere. The gammon was a generous portion with 2 bits of meat. Normally, anywhere else, it's just one. Drinks/food arrived fresh and quickly despite being so busy. Definitely be going back very soon

We reserved a table, the table hadn't been reserved. Our table was a state. Covered in food, food all over the floor. When it had been cleared, we sat down and we were accosted by a drunk man telling us we had taken his table. This lead to every other patron staring at us until we had enough and left.

We were greeted with smiles when we arrived shown straight to our table. were not rushed into making our choices. the starters and mains were lovely. My companions were happy with their desserts.

unfortunately there was nothing at the desk to welcome us so we had to go to the bar. The service at the table was excellent and a slight complaint about the chicken which was in retrospect was slightly dry at the end.

Portion sizes for the adults have become smaller so you need to order extra, that is not ok, the soft drinks j20 were more expensive than half a larger, & ordering a gin & lemonade at £8 a glass is extremely excessive, it is not worth that, it will be cheaper to do it myself at home, food was nice, kids enjoyed themselves & had a great dinner,

The service was excellent. Very attentive and happy to help. Very accommodating to our dining needs. A lovely restaurant with tables spread nicely. Great parking and all round atmosphere. The food was exceptional with one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and the peppercorn sauce was the best. Desserts were also incredible. My husband and I shared all our foods so we were able to taste as much of everything we ordered. Food choice was fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend.

Food was nice, atmosphere was nice. The only downside was the service, spoken to someone earlier in the week and they were abrupt and dismissive on the phone, they not helpful with my query and it was similar today. The server just dumped the drinks on the table and felt like she wanted to run away from our table all the time. Our last two servers were lovely, it was just unfortunate the first two people we came across were not.

Great food and great service. Will go there again. Emma was really welcoming and helpful - many thanks. Food was delicious and I'm looking forward to trying something else next time. If there is an improvement that could be made, it's that we had a table for four and two meals were served on oversized chopping boards covered with brown paper. The boards were so big that two of us couldn't eat with our food directly on front of us and the brown paper kept ripping. Whoever decided these boards were a good idea is a numpty; form over function. Otherwise lovely.

Emma was a great waitress for our evening meal for an early mothers day, especially with entertaining my 4 year old daughter and making sure we had everything needed and made our evening one to remember.

We visited The Gunpowder Mill early on Saturday evening, it is a great restaurant for all the family. The food was very good and our waitress Emma was very polite and helpful. It was so nice to be served by someone with a big smile and enthusiasm to match.

Had a nice stop here. Food was tasty - excellent service from Emma. Would go again.

My Husband and I visited the restaurant for our anniversary on the 8th March, unfortunately one of our steaks was not how we would like it. However, our server April was very friendly and fixed the mistake instantly. Our second steak was extraordinary! We will definitely be returning and hope to be greeted again by April, a very kind young lady.

Good service - nice surroundings

Wonderful dining experience. Megan was very attentive and super helpful. Lost a star just on the potatoes being hard and not fluffy. Everything else spot on, especially the desserts. 😆

Pleasant restaurant with a reasonably nice menu, or it would have been if everything was available! Busy Sunday lunchtime and obviously insufficient staff on to enable an attentive service. No condiments on the tables and the lack of staff meant long wait to get them, also every wine glass on the table was either dirty or watermarked - very poor attention to detail! Updated 2/3/24 - Food was much improved, our server Lorraine was great but the dirty clsees on the tables remain - increased rating for food and atmosphere.

The food was lovely, the staff were lovely. The timing of service was not so great. One of the drinks ordered was on the menu, a completely different drink was brought out and then when we said that to the waitress, she said they don't do that drink... despite it being on the menu. Another drink was made incorrectly, missed a load of it's usual additions and was charged for 2 drinks when we asked for what the drink is meant to be like. It took forever to get the drinks and have the other drink remade properly and then the food took a while also. Again, I'd like to reiterate that the staff and food were lovely. Timings of everything, not so much.

Very fast service nice friendly people all round amazing atmosphere and service

I was pleasantly surprised at our visit to the Gunpowder Mill. It was a lot more professional than I was expecting - the food, service and overall experience was top notch. It is decorated to a high standard and is very modern looking. There was a good ambience with music playing at a decent level. I opted for a Chicken and chorizo kebab which came with a flatbread and French fries and was very tasty, all washed down with a pint of San Miguel. As I said we were very happy with our afternoon at The Gunpowder Mill and we will definitely be back.

My experience going to the restaurant was really nice everything about it with in the drinks and the food, I didn’t take to long for the food to cook and every time I’ve been it’s always hot drinks are lovely and super affordable would definitely recommend for maybe family time, a date with partner or a birthday. Also lovely reception from all staff

The lady (Emma) who served us, was very nice and friendly. She gave an excellent impression of the restaurant (compared to the grumpy, older lady, who had “greeted” us when we first arrived and asked for a table.

Nice staff but not enough of them . Had to get our own cutlery and condiments then clear our own table. We had an early booking I hate to think how bad the table service was after that . Will not be back ! Food edible but not great !

Absolutely wonderful. The table we were given was at a booth and there was plenty of room for us to be comfortable. Our waitress was excellent and catered for my child with a clean highchair, a kids menu and plenty of smiles. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional throughout. My sister and I had a lovely time. We have been here 3 times now and have never been disappointed. Thank you for looking after us so well.

Walked in and ignored by 3 members of staff, while waiting to be shown a table looked around to see the atmosphere only to notice dirty towels laying across the floor. After being shown a seat by someone who smelt like cigarettes bad we were dumped on a table so close to another customer I might as well have sat on his lap (talk about privacy). The table was empty with no menus to look at not even drinks. Will not return.

We were a party of 5 only one meal ok the rest was cold and uncooked the steak was so tough couldn’t cut it the pie and veg cold and 2 of the party waited 9 minutes for theres after the other 3 were served

I organised a family meal to cheer my sister up after finding out she had to have skin cancer removed from her nose and cheek and not really wanting to go out because she was feeling low but I knew she likes the restaurant but the rest of us had never been before . Now we all know why she loves the restaurant We had great service Great drinks and fantastic food and seeing my sister laughing again was priceless Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome !! We will definitely be back

Our party of four asked for a table . The car park was half empty and inside were many tables not in use. The receptionist was very blunt to the point of rudeness, stating there were no vacancies. No help in suggesting tables that would become vacant if we would like to wait. Tables as mention, were empty! This front of house contact was absolutely negative, We won't try again or recommend it. Very disappointed.

Very good food nice restaurant.

Made to feel like a Karen as i had to finally let waiter know that he had forgotten too many things i had requested. .He had not heard or ignored a request for a coke and lager ,skinny chips not chunky and a request for additional onion rings. .A request for a further glass of wine also had to be repeated. Despite a 715 booking we felt unwelcome and felt obliged to leave .Took a given plastic container home to finish meal.

Excellent food friendly staff need new seating chairs have lost their spring felt like sitting in a hole .

Food was lovely and our waitress Katie was very attentive and smiley throughout!

We chose the menu with a set meal. Two courses for 15£. Ordered fish goujons with chips and peas. It was the size of a child’s meal. Three tiny pieces of fish, a handful of chips and micro waved peas. No way that cost more than £3 to put together. Would totally put me off visiting again. Better value in McDonalds to be honest
