Gunpowder Mill in Swale

Booked a table online, which was the bar area. Wasn’t told to that we need to order at the bar for food so sat there for 40 minutes would have been nice to be told. Then once we ordered was told another 30 minutes wait was expected,. Once we paid at the bar my dad paid and completely forgot that we had a 30% off mains, so went up and mentioned the to the tall skinny guy behind the bar as was told basically tuff, as you didn’t state this at time of purchase, which in my opinion is a disgrace. After paying waiting 30 minutes for started then sat there for 40 minutes with our starter plates still on the table, not happy and this place I would not go back to again, as the service and the attitude of the staff, was easily 1 out of 10 don’t recommend going here with kids as my kids have now been up an hour later than their bedtime, cos of crap service.

An amazing evening. Was served by Faith . Just to say that Faith is a wonderful waitress with such an amazing personality that really shines through with her work. Faith made our evening even more lovely than it already was. Really lovely place to come and relax. Prices are reasonable and worth every penny. Thank you Faith

I’m so annoyed we didn’t catch our waitress name but honestly she was the best waitress we have ever had. Super bubbly and friendly. Gave recommendations when we couldn’t decide between a couple of things. She mentioned she was fairly new so hoping the owners may know who we mean. We all left with huge smiles on our faces and was laughing non stop all evening every time she came over. She really made it personal and a memorable experience. We have all said we want to go back just to be served by her again. She made the atmosphere and the experience. Made sure my boyfriend got a birthday suprise and all sorts. The food was lovely too, all fresh. Food did take a little while to come out but tasted lovely and was all super freshly made and fresh ingredients which for the price point you wouldn’t always expect. We will be back!!

Clearly understaffed. 3 waiters for a very full restaurant resulting in an excessive wait for main course (1 hour) The whole experience took 2.5 hours for 2 courses.

Emma our waitress was fantastic really friendly, she made our visit extra special, taking an interest in our family, asking sure our needs were always fulfilled, she was very chatty taking an interest in us

Great feindly staff, service and welcome.

Terrible experience. Food was over rated and not good. Very small portions and expensive. Steak was chewy and overdone. Halloumi was virtually non existent, 3 very small pieces on a dry flatbread. Extremely disappointing and a very long wait.

Fantastic service. I booked a table for 20 people. The staff were organised and pleasant. The food arrived at the promptly and we were all served within a few minutes of each other. Prices were reasonable as well

Lorraine was very friendly and her service was quick efficient . Always nice to be served by her whenever we visit

Burgers were the same size as the kids burgers, for over double the price. All 4 came out over cooked. Chips were cold. Took 10 minutes for cutlery to come out after food was given. One dessert missing at the end meaning we had to wait for one person to eat on their own. Overall very disappointing experience.

After finishing our main meals we sat for thirty minutes before we had to ask for more drinks and pudding even though the staff were constantly walking around us it seemed they forgot about us as we still had empty plates. For clarity; there was two other tables at the time sitting and eating, it wasn't a busy service by any means. We were also kicked out of the restaurant and bar at 21:00 as they said they were closing at 21:30 even though Google, the wall and their own website said open until 23:00 which is why we went to Gunpowder Mill in the first place, nice dinner and a place to continue drinking and chatting. I go to this restaurant regularly and normally there's nothing to complain about but this time I felt I needed to say something and their own website told me to post this here after responding to them.

The food was lovely, the service was prompt and the waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a good ambiance with the lit fire making it a cosy and welcoming place to eat.

we came in as a table of 20 for a 50th birthday. we were served by Faith who was literally amazing the entire time. she was absolutely hilarious and really added to the whole experience. the food was lovely and the service was quick! thankyou!

Myself and 2 friends popped in on the way home from Canterbury. We were greeted by a lovely lady who found us seating in the bar area. We were given menus to browse at our leisure. We ordered from the bar and nothing was too much trouble. Two of us had the best fish and chips we’ve ever had at a restaurant, crispy batter and beautiful chips. Our friend who is vegetarian was well catered for and has a beautiful cheese and potato pie served over mash potato. We were just sorry we didn’t have room left for pudding! The toilets were immaculate and we have already planned to visit again and have recommended the gunpowder mill to our friends. Thank you for an incredible experience!!

We had great service from the minute we entered and throughout the evening. The food was outstanding and so was the atmosphere. Our waitress was warm and friendly and made sure everything was ok.

Food wasn’t very nice. Ice cream was clearly cheap and not put together very well. Service was extremely slow. And pricey for what you get.

We booked a table in the bar area and said on the booking we had a dog. We were placed on a table in the middle where everyone kept walking around it and were told we couldn't move as a whole section of the bar was booked for a 40th birthday. We ordered a tro of roasts which we were really excited about. When the plates came we expect the veg to come separate as it looked like it was only the meat and a Yorkshire on it. Upon closer inspection there was 1 carrot, 1 Parsnip and a couple of potatoes. It didn't come with everything it said it would from the menu. Staff are usually friendly, but they weren't on Thus occasion or helpful. It's a real shame we've been coming for a year, we enjoyed coming and now after this experience we have decided to go come back.

As always lovely food, comfortable seating, but overall it’s the staff that makes the place for us. Very pleasant staff and always made very welcome and it’s a place you would go back to more and more

Nice place to have a walk, only negative no public toilets

Yesterday my partner and I decided to have a nice date at the gunpowder mill, trying it for the first time. We cannot recommend this place enough, the waiters are supremely busy, yet so it with a smile. Especially a lovely lady called Faith, she was rushing about, entertaining customers and giving exceptional service, I accept stress enough that lady deserves a bonus, she made our night. I asked for a more secluded area as I do have hearing trouble and they did oblige which was extremely nice of them, most establishments just plop me next to a loud family, plates clanging but the gunpowder-mill and its waitresses more than made my stay comfortable. The food was heavenly. Whilst I didn’t enjoy the koftas as much as I thought, my partners sticky chicken, mac and chorizo cheese and my pulled pork burger were extremely good, best food I’ve had from a sit down restaurant in ages. The drinks were great, the beer was very fresh, the cocktails were tasty, heavenly even. At the end of this all I can say is, Faith our waitress made our experience amazing, the food was to die for, the cocktails were extremely tasty, the beers even were very fresh. The atmosphere and decor were spectacular. Definitely coming here again. You have a very happy customer.

Had a table of 16 on Saturday at 7pm and the lovely lady serving us was a delight, she was run of her feet working so hard. But still managed to make the moment so special. Working in hospitality myself for many years I can say that she is a catch to have as an employee. She will be the reason why I will keep coming back. She made the experience so funny. So credit to whoever cooks them chicken kababs they are pure heaven what ever sauce you use Jesus it’s 10/10

Greasy burger with a dry bun and almost cold fries, what a disappointment. I really thought this pub had made a turnaround, as our last meal was very enjoyable. Obviously its the luck of the drawer!!

Reasonably priced food served by Jeremy and April who was very attentive to all our needs despite the restaurant being very busy. Highly recommended

Nice pub restaurant atmosphere, felt the food was a little expensive for what you got but it seems to be like that everywhere nowadays! So it was fresh, hot, tasty, lovely fresh veg, but a little on the small size portion wise. Would visit again though!

Visited the gunpowder mill this evening on a stop by as we passed it on our way into faversham and honestly was not disappointed . We were met by a lovely host who seated us they seemed very busy but kept on top of it well. Our server Ed i believe it was, was amazing he was kind and efficient we had the mixes grill, lasagne and caesar salad, it was all perfect! once we had eaten we stayed for some drinks and were served with a delightful bar lady called faith who kept us entertained our daughter coincidentally had the same name so think they bonded over that, but she stated it was her first day which took us aback because her confidence made us think she’d worked here longer. All in all our experience was amazing will definitely be back!

Served by Lou, very friendly server who was lovely with the kids and very polite and informative :) wife ordered the chickpea and sweet potato curry which she thought was great and I had mixed grill, gammon steak was a little salty but steak was super and as blue as I requested. Went with the 30% off mains vouchers which made very reasonable for an evening out with the family. Have gone before and will again. Mentioned we had littles on the booking and were seated so could see the playground from the table, not sure if deliberate but if so was a good touch.

It is very clean and tidy at the Gunpowder Mill. This is evidenced by the cleanliness of the toilets, always a good measure for a place. The staff are courteous and friendly. Service was good and efficient. The main meal was well presented, hot and tasty. The only downside would be the cost of dessert, now around the £7 mark.

Service very slow. Food mediocre at best. Deserts terrible value given the price of the menu. To be fair the manager did offer us a discount due to the delayed service but the quality of the food was not great. Roast potatoes rubbery and Yorkshire pudding like cardboard. Will probably try an independent venue next time rather than this chain pub.

Friendly welcoming staff, clean in all areas visited. Good menu choices and value for money. All food cooked well and hot when delivered to the table. Lots of parking and an area for children not that I needed to use it on this occasion. We will definitely be back and recommend to family and friends.

Street Kitchen menu very tasty, and sensibly priced, but could do with a few more options. 31/08/24. Street Kitchen no longer on the menu, unfortunately, I loved it, but it's a while since they took it off. Today I had the Lasagne and my husband had Hunters Chicken, both very nice. Waitress was really nice.

Visited on the weekend of the hop festival and the staff could not have been any more attentive! Emma was fantastic! Always checking on how we were and ensuring the visit was pleasurable! Will definately be back!

The menu has an extensive variety of options, and everything we tried was great. I really enjoyed the creative takes on traditional foods.

My family had Sunday Roasts, all of the Yorkshire Puddings were cold and the rest of the meals were lukewarm at best! I was very disappointed indeed. Moreover, the waitress who served us was somewhat surly, she was not a warm or engaging person at all! The meals arrived very quickly indeed, approximately 3 minutes after we ordered. Thus, the fact that they were all cold was a sign they had been standing for sometime. Overall, I was not very impressed with the service.

Very friendly with great doggie facilities. I've never seen a pub supply blankets and toys as well water and biscuits. We had a lovely lunch here on the way to the coast and were very glad we stopped.

Never visited before booked as we were in the area and the menu looked good. Lots of options on the menu which suited our party of 4. Warm welcome even though we arrived early. Basically good food, I had Prawn Cocktail and Roast beef. The quality was good but the quality has been slightly better on previous visits. But overall was good. It was busy and the car park was almost full when I arrived. They Don't do rotisserie chicken anymore.

Very relaxing, good food and beer, reasonable prices. Service was very quick, attentive and food came surprisingly quickly. We ate far too much 😂. Waitress was very attentive, had a lovely sense of humour and was attentive, thanks Lou! Dog friendly (though we didn’t have one).

Food was nice and the service was excellent. The only downside was the overall price for what we received. £15 for a few glasses of coke seemed a bit expensive. Exceptional quiet for a Saturday evening when most places are busy.

Popped in for lunch, it was a lovely day so we sat outside. Service and food were good. It wasn't busy at the time we went. Would go again.

We went here , out side there was a notice advertising, steak and Wine Thursdays, when inside nothing was said about such things, Right that said we went there because we both fancied a steak and wanted a bottle of wine between us. We wasn’t too worried about it, but we ordered onion rings and then cancelled them , but got charged for them. The steaks were fantastic and the desserts were very tasty
