Nice little tea room. Reasonably priced cakes & hot drinks. Lovely views of the river Wye. Efficient service, not particularly friendly but the staff were very young. Tables not cleaned once customers left which isn’t good in current times but, other than that, a pleasant enough place.

Nice place for a spot of tea and cake. Gorgeous warm scone of adequate size. No frills with fancy colourful crockery or huge scones or chinz table cloths etc. The tearoom is not a posh sparkling birthday extravaganza location but it’s nice. I liked the flowers growing in the terrace and the tables and chairs with parasols were perfectly placed to watch the world go by on the river. A bit hot under the plastic roofing on a warm day but I bet you would be super glad of it on a wet day. The bread for the “baguette” was so very fresh and tasty and the scones were delicious. The two girls were very very friendly and it seemed genuine rather than faked. They were lovely. A toilet on site and chairs reasonably comfortable. Prices seemed ok. Menu not vast, would have liked a chicken Mayo option on the old sarnies and maybe a chicken bacon option on the potato’s but yes we liked it and will go again without hesitation. Note if you haven’t been to Symonds Yat East before parking is a nightmare here so if it’s weekends or holidays arrive early to get a space, book here for lunch and go for a 3 hour walk. One of the best things about these places is the hand ferry but don’t rely on them. They are staff dependent and I have seen many a group arrive on the other side of the river to find no ferry working and not enough signage to know this is the case so they sit over there waiting for a boat that never comes.

This review is written in April 2021 just as England is coming out of it's third lock down. My wife and I had been for a boat cruise on the River Wye and while we were not ready for a large lunch, we did need tea and cake or similar. Rose Cottage has a lovely view of the river and as we were restricted to eating outside due to the Covid regulations, we were lucky that the weather was dry and warm enough for us to enjoy our visit. We were welcomed and shown to our table in a Covid safe manner, we both had a cream tea each which was certainly filling enough for a light snack. All in all a lovely location to just people watch and watch the river go by.

A brief rain shower after a lovely walk up and down the river (across the suspension bridge downstream) made for an unplanned stop at Rose Cottage, attracted by the outdoor seating with canopies and umbrellas. There were plenty of seats available, just as well as it quickly became very busy. Service was friendly and very efficient, Helen had "the best scone I have had in a long time", Eddie and i enjoyed our fruit cake greatly (just like mother used to make). Refreshed ready for our next stop......

We stopped here for a morning coffee on arrival before we set out on a long walk. Asked if we could book for lunch and come back in 2 hours but they do not take bookings. We were lucky enough to find a table however on our return and sat and looked over the river which was lovely. We both ordered ploughman' lunch - one ham and one cheese. Whilst the cheese one was lovely the ham on the other was a disappointment - nothing home cooked, just looked like thin slimey packet ham and not what we expected. Our big question would be is 'where are the roses?' - not one in site - strange name if you are not going to embrace it. Think they are using the position of the tea rooms as the main attraction without the attention to details and decoration. Don't think we would return - plenty to choose from.

If you are in the area or visiting Symonds Yat rock then the Rose Garden tea room will be sure to give you some well earned tea and cake or light lunch. The garden sits on a raised terrace overlooking the River Wye just outside. This gives a 180 degree view of the river with its quirky little ferry crossing from West to East Symonds Yat and the nearby rapids on the river. The garden is delightful offering a good menu including cream teas and cakes. We selected the carrot and walnut cake which was moist and delicious with a generous portion presented on a plate with paper doily. Tea for two was presented with extra hot water providing two full cups for each of us. Most of the seating is outside so on bad weather days you may find the Rose Garden closed so check by calling 01600890514 otherwise we were told it’s open 11 am till 5.30 last orders 4.30 each day but closed normally on Monday and Fridays. Parking outside in the three or so Rose Garden spaces otherwise it’s £3 or £5 all day pay and display. Dogs and children welcome. After enjoying your tea or lunch you can walk it off by taking a stroll along the walkway and cycle track beside the river to Monmouth and crossing over the bridge on route to come back on the West Bank to cross back over the river on the qwerky ferry to the tea room. This track is mostly flat and accessed through the car park turning left out of the Rose Garden. A very pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

We were welcomed to an outside table where our dog was able to lie down beside us. There is a variety on the menu including ploughman’s and filled baguettes. We were visiting from the Black Country our friends in Stroud for the weekend and on the Saturday we headed out to Symonds Yat - a most picturesque area which was great for walking and overall scenery. Our afternoon walk took us down the river from Symonds Yat East on a flat pathway and we returned on the opposite riverbank crossing over by the small ferry which effectively brought us face to face with the Rose Cottage Tea Garden !It has become something of a tradition with our get togethers to have a cream tea and Rose Cottage was perfectly positioned and we were lucky to get a table which had just been vacated (it was a lovely day and the place was busy). We were pleased that the waitress quickly cleared the table and wiped it over with an anti-bacterial spray. It didn't take too long to make up our minds and the friendly waitress took our orders - 2 x large cream teas and 2 x small cream teas. We commented as we tucked into the home baked scones that they were 'up there' with the best we had ever had - slightly crisp on the outside but soft and moist on the inside and served slightly warm too, There was copious amounts of strawberry jam and great clotted cream so we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon treat, washed down with a pot of Earl Grey tea (a jug of hot water supplied for top up) as we watched the world go by at a seat overlooking the river where folk were having fun. The bill for our cream teas gave us change out of £20 and we thought that this was good value, and for the excellent service we left a good tip which was much deserved.

One waitress serviced all the tables - she was faultless and deserves a pat on the back for doing everything front of house on her own. I wouldn't return, purely because I felt it was over priced.

If you go to Symonds Yat be sure to take time out at the Rose Cottage Team Room for some delicious homemade cakes/scones. The service is great with lots of smiles and great tips on the area. Sit outside and enjoy the stunning views of the river.

Great food for a family of very hungry paddlers. Big sarnies, lovely setting. Cakes, coffee and teas just the job after a long walk and time on the river

Looking for somewhere to take my Mum for a light lunch. Checked the reviews and opening times, which need to be updated as they were closed at 12-30pm on a Monday! On the upside we did have a lovely meal next door at the Saracens head.

A great location right by the River Wye, so sitting on the terrace with a cream tea was a delightful experience, even when it started to pour with rain - we still sheltered under the umbrellas, there was no way we were going inside and miss the views! A lovely, small typically English tea room, serving all your would expect from a tea room; all with friendly service and good prices.

Didn't have to book for an outside table this mild October afternoon and we were met with a warm welcome. Food was great value for all of us - freshly prepared, plenty of it and just what you need after a good long walk. Highly recommended

Pretty tea room offering standard fayre and very welcoming service. Nice to enjoy views of the river while you eat, and to stock up on calories before heading up the Rock!

Wonderful riverside setting, we were lucky enough with the weather to sit out on the charming terrace. Great choice of sweet and savoury light bites to choose from- really spoilt for choice. Very friendly service and a lovely experience.

Lovely lunch sheltering from the rain. Friendly helpful staff. Provided extra sausage for our dogs when asked. No problem at all.

A bit pricey, but excellent view along the river, and nice sandwiches. Service is pleasant, although not necessarily speedy.

Been coming here for years, since our kids were little (now in their thirties). Apart from a visit quite a number of years ago under different management when it wasn't as good, it's back to offering good quality and value. My scone came with generous portions of clotted cream and jam and my wife's Caramel & Pecan cake slice was excellent (or so I'm told).Well recommended.

We were staying on the Malvern View Country and Leisure Park for a weekend stay which we could not fault. However, we dined at The Old Barnhouse on the Saturday evening and unfortunately the food was terrible. We waited for nearly an hour and when the food arrived it was half cold. My mother and father had scampi and chips, no peas and they were out of tartare sauce! My sister and I had the New Yorker chicken which consisted of a huge portion of coleslaw that wasn’t very nice and the chicken was small and if poor quality. My daughter had a kids pizza, chips and beans which was just about acceptable. The five meals and a round of drinks came to over £80 which was appalling for the quality of the food. Avoid The Old Barnhouse for food! Pleasant enough for a drink.

Only went in for a Latte - great flavour/strength. I have to write 100 characters but only went in for a coffee!

Rude, extremely disappointing, shocking and disrespectful staff! We arrived after making a booking the day before. I booked 2 Adults, 1 child aged 2. The booking itself was pleasant. We got slightly lost, rang in and again very pleasant. Arrived 7 minutes late and walked into a very ‘local’ pub feel. All eyes on us. We were told by the bar person that they were glad we found them. A woman appeared and looked at my Grandson and commented ‘we don’t have highchairs’ I commented that I’d booked ahead with a child on the booking? She said she would go down in the cellar and dust something suitable to bring up then asked me if I had a chair in my car???!!!! We approached the bar and I said I was confused as I’d booked a child ahead of coming. I was ignored, I said once again and the younger woman behind the bar looked at me and in a slightly raised voice utttered ‘well, yes she’s gone to get you something hasn’t she!!’ Based on this experience I told my Friend we were leaving as being treated like this was way beyond acceptable. I wasn’t happy and I let it be known! My Friend and I were left shocked and felt we had been treated appallingly by 2 extremely rude women. Whilst we were putting my Grandson in the car the older women came out and further patronised us with her offering of a dusted off cellar chair and we told her that her colleague was vile and it had gone beyond the chair. She walked off. Having read through the reviews I can see hands have changed and so this may be why I didn’t receive the reputation I had heard of. I have the feeling they felt they were above us! I’m not easily impressed so their Morgan cars and gold large Baroque chairs only further deepens my suspicions that they think they’re better 🤣🤣

Beautiful scenic spot, absolutely stunning. Dog friendly. Food was amazing and atmosphere good too. Boat was running as water was too high but didn’t matter to us!

I arranged a lunch here for my walking group of 40. The meals were excellent and served by friendly staff. It was a most enjoyable occasion.
