An old pub, rooms are very tired, minimal maintenance and repairs. There is much better accommodation in the area!

This was a room for some staff. We never book shared bathrooms so when there was nothing on expedia saying shared we booked. Expedia always detail when it is shared. The first thing out of the receptionist was "you do know its a shared bathroom". It was already looking like we wouldn;t be staying due to the smell of the reception but this tipped it. They tried to charge us more money for a private bathroom but that was unacceptable, We wanted to cancel the room but the reception guy wouldn't help and refused to call the person who could. We tried to get Expedia to cancel it but they wouldn't as the hotel had to authorise it and they refused. These people had money off us for an empty room and i wanted to make sure no one else suffered the same fate. Utterly disgraceful place.

Hi, I got chance to stay and dine here a week ago. The room was tidy and the staff was very friendly. In addition to in the next evening I got chance to eat in the restaurant the food was fresh and very tasty and I also had a great time in old traditional English bar. I would recommend others to stay . It is at a very prime location.

Went with friends who have travelled extensively in India & Pakistan and they said it was the worst curry they have had! Even the chicken & chips was not great.... with the salad looking like it had been left out for a couple of days .... lettuce & cucumber turning brown.

Seems like good value until you factor in the actual amount of meat you get. Veg boiled so much its lost all flavour. No vegetarian options. Grumpy staff, but not surprising considering the awful language they were subjected to in the kitchen, which could clearly be heard from the restaurant.

We recently hired the restaurant area in the Rose and Crown Hotel for a wake and I just want to express such a huge thank you for the staff who were so helpful and took the stress out of such a sad time for our family. The food they provided was lovely and just the perfect amount. They were so accomodating and it was a great celebration of our aunt's life. Would highly recommend for party's or get togethers. I have not visited the Rose and Crown carvery for several years. It appears that they have agreed not to start without me as it has not changed a bit, just got a little more tired and dark looking. We were a party of 7 on a Sunday lunch time and had booked in advance. Our table was ready so despite the surroundings it seemed OK so far. After ordering drinks we were told we could go down and get our food. No one there. After a while a man appeared from out back. "Oh" he says. "I will just go and get the fresh meat". Good we thought as the beef and pork was looking wooden and small. No such luck. He returned empty handed and asked for our order. I went for turkey then as it was all that appeared edible. "Would you like all the trimmings?" I was asked. Ooh yes please! The trimmings turned out to be a cocktail sausage 'pig' that had fell out of it's 'blanket' so after a bit of chasing around I got a bit of bacon thrown onto the hardest, flattest Yorkshire I have ever met and a stuffing ball so dryed it resembled warm aggregate. Moving to the veg there was plenty and a dish of brown water that I guess was offered as gravy. Altogether a very very poor offering. Back at the table we arrived in dribs and drabs as service was unable to meet with the Sunday lunch pre- booked rush, resulting in us all eating at different times or risk even colder food. (Puzzling as presumably they were aware of the level of customers likely to attend having taken the booking?) You will find that the dirty cutlery matches the decor exactly in style and substance. When the bill was called for I had aged significantly before it arrived. Not a particularly cheap Sunday lunch at over £100 and the signs up warning that due to recent trouble certain types would be banned from areas of the premises upon pain of police involvement ensures that it will be a few years before I try again. =(

I went in here for lunch and a drink on a Tuesday as the website said they were doing food that day. When I walked up to the bar, no one was there.. then an old lady ran from the restaurant in a hurry. Rushed me along for an order so I asked for a pint of Stella. She asked for the money and I gave her my card. She said they don’t accept card payments under £10. There was no sign about this, I offered to go get money out of a cash machine opposite the pub whilst I left my belongings at the bar. Instantly she said she would call the police if I didn’t agree to either paying by cash (which I didn’t have) or having £10 worth of drinks. I said I’m here for food anyway and I said I’ll have a sandwich from the menu. She said they were only doing a carvery for £12.95. I asked for the menu and she yelled at me and said that I needed to either order the carvery, order the drinks or they will call the police. As there was a group of elderly ladies blocking the door acting as bouncers I chose to sit down.. it looked like a slight breeze could break them in half. I didn’t want to hurt one of their so called friendly staff. Don’t go here.. it’s shockingly bad service and by the looks of it they don’t have a cleaner..

I had arranged for family to meet up there for a get together at 1 pm some were travelling long distance to get there. I arrived first at about 12.30 ish to meet them on there arrival. There were only about two cars in the car park . I parked my car and waited. I then had a phone call to say they had driven past and missed the turn in to car parked. So I left my wife in the car and walked down to the road to wave them down. On returning to my car I found I had a very rude parking notice stuck on the side window. My wife said he slammed it on the window and made her jump. This made me so angry we decided Togo elsewhere

Have visited for Sunday lunch on two occasions and not disappointed. First time booked and every thing one would expect from an old hotel. Yesterday Sunday 16th October called in and fully booked, however a table in bar was offered and we took it. Best sticky toffee pudding for a long time, light and not too sweet was tempted for second. Staff hard working and attentive will be back again.

Stayed here for three nights as working in the area, bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good too. I stayed in room 4 which had recently been refurbished. I did stay over the weekend and they had a band on which I could hear in my room, but to be honest I was so tired it never kept me awake. If working in this area I would stay here again. Also has free parking and WiFi. Which is a bonus.

back from another little trip and as ever an article for tripadvisor to publish so that it may help some others.3 of us decided to visit Duxford Aviation Museum over 2 days. needing an overnight stay I used trip adviser after finding a realistic price for 1 night.I twinned up with my brother while our friend had a double to himself. On arrival we where met and shown to our rooms by Keith the manager. the double Room 4 had just been re furbished and looked clean and presentable .Room 5 was the twin...as we opened it is was obvious that smoking had been allowed in it.....Ok no fuss. just opened the window wide for 15 minutes and then 1/2 shut it.... soon sorted that out. Bedding and towels spotless. Kettle and drinks on a tray always welcome. We went down and had to check out the bar. well it was 1/2 past beer time. There was Keith again smiling away behind the bar.....Enjoyed a few beers chatting with him and the locals while waiting for the restaurant to open. Soon the owner Keith arrived and introduced him self and what a nice Geordie guy he was. made us feel really welcome and gave us a short intro. on the history of this 17th century coaching in and his plans for the future.Really nice guys are both Keiths..Into the restaurant we went at 6pm and opted for the carvery. Brilliant meal and value. Annabelle the restaurant manager was terrific. Chatty Whity and full of fun too. We all really enjoyed the food there and suffice to say a 60 seat restaurant was well over 1/2 full when we left to return to the bar to watch the England France match. The bar soon filled up and we could see folk still going to the restaurant too.Good range of beers etc. and 3 TV,s to watch where you wanted.I read and understand reviewers will not always fine this hotel to their taste but as readers know I am quite adaptable and have stayed in top hotels worldwide and some places I would not leave a wild cat in.We all found it great value for money yes it needed a spruce up ( Keith did say it would happen ) but a friendly well kept and very clean inn it is. As ever the question is would I or all of us got back together or with our wives . YES without a shadow of a doubt...... Thanks Keith x 2 and Annabelle .you made a good museum trip very enjoyable and didn't hurt the pocket either.

I was booked in for 2 nights but cancelled the 2nd night. There wasn't a hair dryer and on asking was informed that the 2 the hotel did have, had been stolen which wasn't my concern but not being able to wash and blow dry my hair as a business woman is not acceptable. The room faced a busy junction and opposite a building whose bell tolled hourly. The gentleman who decided it was acceptable to stand outside his door and opposite mine holding a full blown high decibel conversation at an ungodly hour contributed to a poor nights sleep.Told someone the bulb had gone in the bedside lamp , he removed the dead bulb but never bothered to replace it.Breakfast I ordered a poached egg on toast I eventually gave up waiting and left without having my breakfast order as,the length of time from placing the order to not getting my breakfast order made me believe he was waiting for the chicken to lay the egg. Had a nice bar meal the evening of my 1st nights stay and the staff were very nice. The ensuite was large and nicely equipped.

Decided to try out their Sunday lunch carvery with my husband and son. Arrived at 12.10 so we could be at the start of the carvery, which is served 12-4pmWere seated straight away and were the 3rd party in the restaurant. drink orders were taken and then we were told the "chef" would be out to serve us carvery - no menus ever given good job thats what we wanted!turkey. beef and pork on offer we had turkey and beef. The Yorkshire pudding was black on top and soggy/doughy raw on the bottom veg was horrid the only one that was cooked was the carrots cabbage and peas were basically raw the roast potatoes tasted like they had been deep fat fried and were hard with no flavor and the gravy was runny, the pigs in blankets were nice and the stuffing wasnt too bad although a little hard. Wasnt asked what we thought of the meal although when the waitress collected our plates i said we were displeased with the food she just walked away and then ignored us!drinks werent too nice obviously too much syrup in the post mixWe wont be returning ever again it was simply that yukky!Decor hasn't been updated since i worked their 13 years ago with wall paper dirty and sagging. Such a shame as it used to be a nice place to eat and socialize. My advice to anyone thinking of going here dont waste your money - your taste buds wont thank you!!!

After being promised to be seated in five minutes whilst they reset a table, we waited almost half an hour to be shown through to the half empty restaurant and sat at the smallest table imaginable. All around us were small children shouting and running around. It had the atmosphere of a soft play centre.Apparently there had been a problem on the counter, so we could "choose our meat and it will be cooked in the kitchen." I chose pork and my partner chose turkey. Two small plates were produced "The chef put turkey and pork on both." I sent the plates back and asked for what we had ordered. They came back correct complete with two limp Yorkshire puddings. We went to get ourselves vegetables and for a carvery the offering of overcooked broccoli, overcooked carrots or green beans was not very attractive. The roast potatoes were Aunt Bessie. They could not even be bothered to cook their own.Back at the table my partner cut her turkey and put a piece in her mouth. It was stone cold. The piece underneath was raw. We felt this was the time to get-up and walk-out.At no point during this debacle were we once offered drinks. The conclusion? Avoid the Rose & Crown, Haverhill like the plague if you want an edible, let-alone enjoyable carvery. It really is that bad.
