Usually a great venue. Unfortunately today a total disaster. Booked online Monday for a Thursday lunch. No email confirmation so rang Tuesday and no they did not have my booking. Therefore booked over the phone for 7 @12.30 for lunch. Not told when we arrived there would be a delay, finally we all got food at 2.00pm. One meal sent back because cold, vegetables arrived after we had eaten half the meal. No apologies whatsoever! Food okay but won't be back for a while until staff situation is sorted.

Went for a family meal and whilst the 2 staff were pleasant and apologetic, the food was pretty awful and the overall dining experience really, really poor. From arriving at the pub, to eventually receiving our main courses, nearly 2 hours had passed. The food was not as described and poorly cooked. Many other customers were complaining too. I really want to support local pubs and see them thrive, so I am often generous in my feedback as a result, however the Rose & Crown needs a lot of work and attention. It may be worth replacing the kitchen staff completely, reducing the menu and really focussing on quality. We wish the owners well, but until some fundamental changes are made, I would only recommend people to go for a drink here, but eat elsewhere.

Came here on Sunday for late lunch. It was busy as usual but we were seated quickly and the waitress took our drinks order within minutes and told us what they had and didn’t have and by the time the drinks came we were ready to order. The waitresses were lovely and friendly. The food was excellent as always and great value. There was another table in the same room who complained about everything- not sure what their issue was - complained they had to go to the bar to order drinks after waiting 30 seconds 🤷🏼♀️ We waited 20 minutes for our mains which is to be expected unless you’re at Toby Carvery ! Excellent as always will be back !!

**Review for The Rose and Crown** I had a booking for 4 on a Sunday at The Rose and Crown, attending with my partner and our grandparents. We arrived for our 4 pm reservation and were seated in a dingy corner of the pub without being informed that we needed to order drinks at the bar. We eventually figured this out ourselves and got a few drinks, which was the only smooth part of our experience. Our starters, consisting of two soups and some garlic mushrooms, took over 45 minutes to arrive. While the mushrooms were great, the soup was disappointingly slushy. When it came to ordering our mains, we were advised that multiple items, including pies and any chips, were off the menu. We were told the available meats for the roast were lamb, beef, and pork. My partner opted for the lamb and beef but was told the lamb came on the bone and the beef would cost extra, pushing the price of the Sunday roast to around £20. Our mains arrived an hour and a half later, after we had to inquire about them since we had commitments to leave by 6 pm. My partner's Sunday roast consisted of just gravy, a Yorkshire pudding, a lamb shank, hardly any vegetables, and one roast potato — all for nearly £20, which is robbery. My grandmother’s braising steak was just a few pieces of beef. Frustrated, we decided we had enough and requested to leave, offering to pay only for our starters and drinks as we had not received all of our mains and the ones we did were terrible. The manager rudely demanded nearly £90, but after much back-and-forth, we ultimately only paid for our starters. During this, we could hear the staff discussing how they could force us to pay. As we were leaving, they stated we were barred, but thankfully we won’t be going back even if we had the choice. After talking to friends, we've learned they’ve had similar experiences with the staff. The overall experience was abysmal. The establishment is run down and charges top prices for subpar food and service. The manager avoided talking to us directly, and there were no check-ins throughout our meal. AVOID THIS PLACE. They only care about taking your money without providing the quality or service to justify the prices. The owner will probably try to respond to this review to prove us wrong, but review readers, please take my advice and don’t come here. You’d have a better experience at the Wetherspoons down the road.

Worst place ever! Appalling - waited 1 hour and 20 mins for some mains! Waited 30 mins for 2 soups! Questioned and asked when the food would be coming and said was being plated - waited another 15 mins! Absolutely horrendous - and they expected us to pay for it when we did not eat it. When it came the food wasn’t what I ordered and was incorrect - the braising steak had 2 pieces - worth £8.00! Had to go to the bar for drinks/ did not get any service. One of the waitresses smirking whilst we complained - the manager came back twice saying we needed to pay and declined - advised would pay for what we had. Ended up paying for what we had - and was advised to never go back. No problems! Rubbish food! Rubbish service! Rubbish beer. Had no Yorkshire puddings , no chips and also pies. Did not mention they could do fries with one of the meals when one of our family members were disappointed. Absolutely appalling - hope it closes down and the staff absolutely need to wipe off their smirky faces! Young girls being paid peanuts and not able to handle a difficult conversation. Hahah worst Sunday ever

Be warned. You need to visit this fantastic pub when you're extremely hungry. This pub was recommended to me by multiple people so we just had to try for ourselves. Talk about exceeding all expectations! Lovely warm welcome from Richard today and shown to our table. Very homely feel to the place with a relaxed atmosphere. Ordered our food and when starters arrived I was immediately worried (in a fun way) they were huge! and very tasty. Then came the mains...... Absolutely fantastic! But could any of us finish our meals....... Nope! As amazing as the meals were we Richard boxed the rest up for us to take home. Seriously everything was spot on to the point we've actually cancelled future bookings elsewhere to come back here and also for a special birthday. Has a good sized function room for private parties too if required which looked really good! Definitely give the Rose and Crown a try. You'll definitely return!

Booked for Sunday lunch as a central point for family to meet up based on good reviews on Trip Advisor - what a let down! The beef was tough as old boots, lumpy mashed potatoes, semi cooked old vegetables, no serving spoons and no attention from staff. Its a pub that does Sunday Lunch so has little turnover of food and seemingly uses up old food so nothing was fresh - don't bother!

This place had been recommended by friends. The service was poor. My friend asked for cutlery they took it from another person on our table. Hairs found in one of the starters, complained to waitress to be given a dirty look, it was eventually changed. We went here especially for a roast on the Sunday and we weren’t disappointed. The size of the portion was generous and everything was very tasty. I was surprised to see we only had one roast potato and that was about the entire range of roasted veggies. We had mash instead, which was very nice. The price was very reasonable as well. The table service has room for improvement, but we enjoyed out time there. I would recommend.

Great choice menu and delivery too! We opted for collection and chose a large Steak & Ale pie and a small Belly Pork. The steak was lean and plentiful, the big fat roast potato esque chips were gorgeous, chunky carrots, green beans and cabbage topped of a great meal. Two pieces of tasty belly pork, buttery salted mash with carrots, green beans and cabbage were all delicious. Both came with super dark, thick, tasty gravy. The large was notably bigger than the small (and not just veg). It was piping hot and all well presented in a carton with separate sections. My compliments to the chef.Highly recommended and a change from the usual take aways available at the moment.

Visited yesterday (Sat 11th Jan) for the first time, 4 of us, for a late lunch. We parked for free very handily in the car park round the corner from the pub. We sat in the restaurant which was rather cool, we should have asked for the wood burner to be lit. The decor is a bit dark & dated but there's fresh flowers on the tables which is a nice touch. We were the only ones in the restaurant at that time though the pub part was busy, the tables are quite close together so think it could be a bit squashy if busy. The menu was excellent, plenty of choice for everyone from light bites to full traditional meals as well as more exotic food. You have to order at the bar, the staff were very pleasant & obliging, my Mum only has a small appetite so asked if she could have a smaller pie, chips & veg, this was no problem. I ordered the normal size steak & ale pie, my son the "cock & bull" sizzling plate with rice! & my husband the belly pork. 3 of the meals came with triple fried chips, fresh vegetables & gravy. We had to wait about 40 minutes for our food but it was worth it when it came, massive, generous portions of very well cooked food, the meat in the pies was melt in the mouth tender, the belly pork crispy & tasty & the" cock & bull "full of flavour, red hot, sizzling strips of chicken and beef with peppers in a creamy mushroom sauce with rice. The chunky home made chips were excellent as was the veg, all in big portions, my Mum appreciated her mini meal too, there was plenty for her. All in all an excellent meal, we were totally stuffed ! Thank you, we will return though hopefully the room will be warmer next time.

I’ve been going to the rose many years now and it’s my all time favourite place, often alone as I don’t really like people... I’m always greeted warmly especially from the girl I think they call fellon. Always beaming from ear to ear. It’s such a lovely warm establishment. I have to order a pensioner size meal when I go and often take home in a lunchbox as it’s so large. My lunchbox is massive and there’s still ample to fill it!! Sometimes last 3 days. The landlord Alan is lovable and warm contrary to his physical appearance and the whole team always make you feel welcome. Even the lady helen who washes the dishes waves from her sink with her one hand that isn’t chained. Fantastic. The outside bar area is run by a lady called Sami, she’s a wealth of general knowledge and can often keep you entertained with with amazing facts along with the lovable Maisy who unfortunately is a die hard leeds fan and lovable rogue. All in all a solid 5 stars. A must visit.

Sunday tea. The atmosphere was a little odd, like the slaughtered lamb in an American werewolf in London perhaps. If you’ve seen the movie you’ll know what I mean. If you haven’t, it’s a place where you walk in and the pianist stops playing and everyone stops talking and looks around. I guess you have to be a local / regular to avoid that reception. Anyway, food was pretty good. Simple dishes, well executed. Value for money lets it down a little perhaps, hence my rating. Worth another visit perhaps, someday.

Rubbish day at work so partner rung on his way home and said let’s go out for tea. We eat out quite regularly in the town and have had drinks at the Rose and crown but not eaten before. It wasn’t really busy upon arriving at just before 7pm. The menu is good and varied, home cooked pub grub!! If you eat before 7pm during the week 7 of the main meals are priced at £7. What’s not to like!!!! My partner had the fish and chips with mushy peas and myself the braised beef with mash and veg. The portions were large and well worth the money. A glass of rose and a pint on top and the bill came to £21. My partner would have preferred fries I think to the chunky chips which were like wedges but that’s just personal preference. Not really much atmosphere but no surprises with it being a Monday. Would definitely recommend if you’re after a cheap hearty tea.

I live locally and we've often nipped in for a pint. Always great to check out the new brews. Wuick, friendly service. They also have a fantastic range of gins. I also like the fact they setve soft drinks from cans and not the soda machine. Not eaten here but the specials board has some classic fayre.

Starting to really like this little pub. It has three small rooms, all of which have fires (though they are not on in Summer months). They brew their own rhubarb gin (so I believe) and it's lovely. The wines aren't too bad either. Guest ales are a regular here.

My favourite pub in Cleckheaton. The dog can never walk past without going in either. Great selection of real ales and some larger for the people with no taste. :-) The food is great too with large portions.

Nice lunch at this pub restaurant. The Lamb parcel was tender served with veg, the Yorkshire pudding was hard and a bit burnt. My friend had the scampi. Enjoyable meal, good service and fair atmosphere. Good value would go again.

Just arrived back home from yet another excellent meal at the rose n crown. As other people have mentioned I can't rate this place high enough. Me and the Mrs eat out quite a lot and travel around a fair bit to try different pubs/restaurants. But to have this little gem on your doorstep is a brucie bonus. The quality and value for money is excellent. Staff are great. What more can I say except give it a whirl. You won't be disappointed.

Really nice old fashioned pub, does exactly what it says on the label. Traditional hand pulled ale, all very good quality, very reasonably priced. Friendly staff, went in for a couple, stayed all night.

For a CAMRA member this pub is areal gem. Superb choice of real ales, some of which are brewed on the premises and all at one price. This place easily rivals Wetherspoons. There is a good atmosphere and we have always found other people to talk to.

This pub has been open for hundred of years, was closed for a while and has been totally refurbished and now has its own micro-brewery. However, it seems most of the ales served are not their own, which is not necessary a bad thing. Often the beers are off which can be a bit annoying. The service is ok, but you get the feeling that if you're not local, they treat you differently, only warming to you when you've spent a bit on beer of show interest in food. Did make us feel a little uncomfortable to begin with. However, in the end the beers and food we ordered were great, very good value. They don't take bookings and is quite small so can be a problem if you just decide to call in on the off chance. Overall, a welcome addition to the town and offers a good opportunity for good quality, home cooked pub food locally.

Took the wife out for dinner, been before and the food was excellent last time, waited a good 5 mins to get the bar lady's attention as they were busy, when ordering the food was told there was quite a wait which was ok, wife got mushrooms for starters which she said were good, I got pate not too keen on this I've had better although there was plenty. Our mains were a while coming and my lamb shank was ok just not much taste, my wife's steak pie was brilliant she said. Great pub and the food is good although think I'd go back to the belly pork next time. When this pub opened it said there was no children allowed but this rule seems to have been relaxed as there were a couple of children in this day, ok the were sat still and well behaved but not the point is it 1 rule for 1. Will definitely go again as we've always liked the place

Always a pleasure visiting here. Great range of soups and reasonably priced coffee £2 or pot of tea £1.60 (Dec '18). The staff are friendly and there's a outdoor seating area which in summer is a real sun trap.

Great selection of craft beers, always changing. Highly recommend 'Neck oil' when it's on. Loads of choice for non beer drinkers too. Not tried the food since it's changed, menu looks good though. Really friendly and helpful staff.
