Best Sunday lunch anywhere in the New Forest. The food was exceptionally delicious; the staff were attentive but not intrusive; the ambience was relaxed and professional; the new owners went to all diners to greet them. Overall, excellent and also reasonably priced. Will we go again? Absolutely!

Yesterday (3rd Nov) we went to The Huntsman in Brockenhurst for Sunday lunch and had such a brilliant experience. The warm welcome, gorgeous surroundings and attentive staff very quickly made us realise we had stumbled across a gem. The roast was incredible. Super tasty, really good portion size, lots of variety of veggies. We spoke to couples who were sat either side of us and had a lot of fun with them, which I feel is a true testament to the landlord/ landlady. It's a great place that I look forward to returning to very soon.

I booked an overnight stay for my husbands 60th Birthday, in a super comfy room and was shocked when we checked in to see the state of the room. There was mould on all the windows, shower ceiling and tiles. The member of staff behind the bar was very abrupt with us when we arrived, saying we were too early and to return at 3pm, check in time. When we did, we had to wait for over 15 minutes while they found someone to check us in. The room was tired and shabby and in need of a coat of paint. I paid £190 for 1 night Bed & Breakfast and there was no way it was worth it. The only saving grace, was that dinner in the restaurant was lovely, as was the waitress who served us. We will NEVER be going back there again!

We had not booked and were allocated a table by the very attentive and we have to say exceptional front of house staff, who were collectively amazing, but a special mention to Micaela who worked soo hard, she has eyes everywhere before you know what you want or need, she anticipated it, first class service! Our criticism to mark them down was the food, venison croquette was dry and could have been hotter. The pie of the day, described as beef shin and mushroom, no evidence of mushrooms but lots of peas and not convinced it was beef shin due to the texture, but the pie top, well you could have used it as an ice hockey puck, looked like it had been flashed under the grill, it was black and rock hard! Shame as everything else was amazing, Micaela and her team are fantastic. 👍

the roast dinner are amazing definitely recommend and the rooms was lovely and clean had everything that was need to make my stay little easier with 2 young kids l! Good entertainment in the skittle alley for us adults and the kids! Definitely stay again

Do not be fooled by the management pictures of the rooms. They were taken in 2016 and have probably not be refreshed or updated since. The rooms are badly in need of a makeover. They are false advertising! We went with friends for a 2 night stay over the August Bank Holiday. I would suggest they stick to running a pub and leave the hotel business well alone! Check in states 3pm, it was 4.10pm before we could get into our rooms. To make it worse the staff had a "whatever" attitude. We came back to our rooms gone 4pm to chill on the Saturday, only to find our room had not been refreshed. When asked why, they said, "oh, your room is next and it is just a top-up of teas & coffees"!!!! If it is just a top up of teas & coffees, the question remains..... why was it not done?? We had to go back out again!! Having emailed them on our return home, they said they had had some issues that weekend! Sorry, we paid for a service and to have a room at 3pm, whatever issues they have is not our problem. Like I said at the beginning of this review, they should forget the hotel side and concentrate on the pub.

Service very slow and disinterested. Food over cooked and dry after waiting a very long time. Not worth the bother. Sadly it used to be lovely, now not tempted to return.

Not allowed to sit in the nicer outdoor area, and put next to a fire door not a good location. Waiter knew nothing about the food or drink menu, just shrugged when asked. Waited 40 mins for the meal. Staff were friendly but not professional, it’s just a pub with ok food, not a restaurant feel.

2nd overnight visit and just as good as the first. Room was comfortable and clean. We had the wonderful roast which was obviously freshly cooked. Very tasty and filling. Pedro our waiter was very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was also good, although we couldn't manage the full breakfast as we were still full from the roast. Garden is lovely, and the whole place is dog friendly

Fantastic place to stay in The New Forest, excellent Management Team and attentive staff! We stayed for two nights and found the rooms clean, bright and comfortable; a great meal selection in the restaurant and a lovely breakfast menu to set you up for the day. The bar has an excellent selection of beers, ales, wines and spirits and we would not hesitate to book again. Special thanks to Boyd & Anna for making our stay so special!

Really lovely lunch today. Plenty of choice whether you want a small or big meal, and a great wine list. Service was just the right balance of professional v friendly.

Lovely service from Wren our waitress and hearty pub food, we took our dog and had a perfect table where she was out of the way . The main restaurant which isn’t dog friendly looks very nice as well .

We ate sausage and mash and beef burger. The sausage and mash was served with spring greens which made it a more interesting dish than the usual. The beef was good quality and made into a nice pattie with pickles and relish. Pedro is the best front of house we’ve met in a long time and made our experience unforgettable.

Excellent attentive service from start to finish (despite being a fairly large family group). Beautiful roast beef (I haven’t enjoyed one so much in ages!). On the more expensive side for food and drinks but quality makes it worth it. Lovely garden to enjoy.

Visited The Huntsman for dinner on Friday evening. Had booked in advance and were greeted by very friendly staff. Shown to our table quickly and handed menus. Very good selection, with nibbles offered prior to the starters being served. We started with pea and broad bean hummus which was excellent, then shared a roast camembert followed by scallop and crab linguine, delicious. Ate so much no room for dessert! All the staff were friendly and efficient making for a very enjoyable dining experience, thank you.

Waited about an hour before food was delivered to the table after asking where it was. ..the pub was quiet but we were told that they had a table of 15 who they were serving before us.....when the food arrived I had to send mine back as it had onion and rel7sh which I had asked to be removed as I have an intolerance to the allium family

Stayed overnight after a day on bikes in the New Forest. Rooms were lovely and quiet and we all had a good night's sleep, including our dog. Decor throughout was really nice. Garden beautiful and well maintained. We had a fantastic evening meal - the fish and chips deserve a special mention! Batter was lovely and crispy. Great service as well. Breakfast was piping hot and obviously cooked to order. All of the staff were polite and helpful. Would highly recommend. Hopefully we will be back

We came to the Huntsman for dinner on a quiet Monday night and were made to feel so welcome, with lots of fuss and a treat for our dog! It was so nice to be somewhere advertised as dog friendly where dogs are welcomed, not just tolerated. We had the Camembert, pork chop and pork belly which were just stunning, the wonderful service was matched by the quality of the food. I don’t often leave reviews but Huntsman should be really proud of the team they have there, we’ll definitely be visiting again on our next trip to the New Forest!

This place just has it all, friendly service, great food and a lovely atmosphere. We were lucky enought to stay for 2 nights over the Easter weekend and really felt like we had a holiday - we were treated wonderfully by all the staff, enjoyed comfy rooms and had lovely meals. With the expansive New Forest on the door step its perfect for long walks with the dog (and to wear out the kids!) too. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.
