We asked Helen at the Rose and Crown to put on a little spread for my Dad's wake. All those working at the pub were very attentive and kind, the spread was just what Dad would have wanted. Thanks again and we will be back to experience your usual food and hospitability when we come back to the village to sit with Dad.

If you are looking for an old fashioned quintessential pub this is the place for you. The landlord and Landlady are friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere cosy ( a roaring log fire) and the food homemade, reasonably priced and delicious. We are a three generation family with a two year old and they allowed us to move the table around to accommodate a toddler. We will definitely be booking again.

Out for a drive on a wet day, my wife and I chanced upon the Rose & Crown. Once inside it appeared many of the tables were reserved, but we weren't really looking to eat and it was a Sunday. We were met at the bar by, I assume, the Landlord. With four cask beers available we made our choice and had a friendly chat with the Landlord. We found a table which happened to be near the menu... The choice of food available was tremendous so I enquired if there was any chance and the Landlord said he could ask the kitchen, but he thought they were fully booked so I left it. Within a few minutes he came and told us we COULD eat as the kitchen said they could fit us in. The food was first class. Overall, a nice, friendly pub. Great beer, great food and excellent customer service. (Waitress was friendly and polite too.)

We were staying as an extended family near here and went in one evening. This is just the sort of excellent authentic, unpretentious village pub you don't seem to see so much these days. Landlord was super friendly, recommending beers and chatting about he keeps them. Chatted to friendly locals too. Good atmosphere. We all had food which was exactly as expected: good sized portions, straightforward, tasty. Lots of variety on the menu. Pub is dog friendly too. Please visit if you are in the area. A great British village pub. Thanks

This is straightforward pub food but good quality and very reasonable prices. Drinks are also very reasonable and a lot less than many pubs nowadays. Don’t expect fine dining but just good value food. Pub has nice traditional pub atmosphere well frequented by locals. Several different seating areas means you can be as private as you wish or in amongst other visitors.

Thanks to Helen and Bally for making my 70th birthday party such a success. All the guests commented on what a lovely pub you have and on the quality of the buffet. We were well looked after from start to finish. I can recommend this venue for anyone considering a party or even just popping in for a meal hand cooked by Helen.

Not many reviews and the last one many months ago. Time to correct that. The name Rose & Crown often means that the pub is an old one. This one certainly is: the building is from around 1300. You feel the age, character and good atmosphere the moment you step inside. The fact that landlord Iain radiates friendliness makes you wish that this could be your local. What a shame that we live too far from Hundon. Landlady Helen appeared a bit later and together they're a formidable team. We were occasional visitors but spent a whole evening here to celebrate a wedding. Several locals came in and they all had this laid-back, friendly attitude. Last but not least, not many pubs know how to pull a proper point of Guinness. Iain and his team certainly do! They pour some, let it rest long enough and only then fill up the glass. This is a great pub for a pint, a meal or for a party, whatever the reason.

We visited the rose and crown in hundon while staying nearby for a few days. The pub was lovely and the landlords Ian and Helen were very helpful and friendly. All 8 of us loved the homecooked food so much, we came back the next night for another meal! The prices are extremely reasonable and Helen is a brilliant cook. The pub itself has a really welcoming and warm atmosphere and the music is at a lovely volume. We will definitely be back when we are next in the area!

We (a party of 3) visited this pub on Thursday 5th September and we all chose something different from the Table D'hote lunch menu. The steak and ale pie came with 3 or 4 new potatoes, 2 slender carrot slices and about half a cabbage leaf! The taste was rated as "mediocre" and "where were the vegetables?". When the owner was taxed with this he said that the portion was small (actually, there was a decent-sized slice of the pie, with plenty of gravy) because we were not lunching A La Carte! The same went for the tiny portion of vegetarian lasagne; and here, it needs to be said that, if blind-folded, I would have had trouble figuring out exactly what it was as there was practically no taste at all! The 3rd dish, listed as haddock, appeared to be anything but. At least, the verdict was that IF it was haddock, then it was not fresh.

We called in for a light lunch and pint after a morning's walk in the countryside. This is still very much a 'typical' village pub - not modernised or 'improved' by a big brewer, and this is to be welcomed. It has a cosy and homely feel. We were influenced in choosing to try it because the pub is listed in the current edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and we were not disappointed. Four hand pulled real ales were offered, two of which were completely new to us. The pints were in excellent condition and we enjoyed the two tastes new to us. There was a respectable choice of light lunches with baguettes with a wide variety of fillings and baked potatoes with a wide variety of toppings. Prices are very reasonable. Our welcome and service was warm, friendly and efficient. The only slight let down was that when we called a few days in advance the telephone went to an answer phone and our call was not returned. Our e-mail never was answered. This alone almost lost them our business as we were trying to confirm they would be open. Being difficult to contact doesn't seem to make good business sense. Nevertheless our visit and lunch was enjoyable and we are very likely to return.

We made a particular trip to this pub which we have used before (and it was VG) on Wednesday 1st August and it was SHUT with no notice of explanation or anything. So went to the Plough, and did well.

Friendly, family run free-house. Good pub food and excellent real ale. Good size car park and beer garden. Perfect for a summer afternoon outside or equally a winter night in by the woodburner. Dog and child friendly. A highly recommended traditional village pub.

Popped in for one drink, ended up staying for four and had a meal too. Traditional country village pub that's popular with the locals. Children and dogs allowed. The landlord was very friendly and chatted to my husband over their shared love of planes. Locals using the pub were also very friendly and welcoming. Beer was very good. Great value home cooked food. Both my husband and I had the double cheeseburger & chips which was £5.95. Couldn't fault the food, you get plenty, it was nice and hot and very tasty. Will definitely be visiting again as people were so friendly.

We were recommended this pub for its good food. On our first visit, for our wedding anniversary, we were not disappointed. Sunday Lunch was one choice, roast pork, but there were choices for starters and puddings. The food was nicely served on hot plates and there was quite enough to satisfy us both. Local residents also greeted us and talked to us about various local matters which was quite nice and welcoming. The pub is quite old and the owners are slowly redecorating it. The cost of the meal was not particularly high and lower than many other local pubs and restaurants. Although there was no choice of main course, that might be a factor in keeping costs down. Additionally, food is not served on a Monday or Tuesday. The pub is family run and both cooking and serving involve all family members. For good food, well cooked and served without any fuss or bother, this is not a bad place to visit.

Visited on Saturday (Easter Bank Holiday Weekend). Friends that had not seen each other for over 34 years - wrong place to visit as it was impossible to sit & talk over dinner. There was a huge group of dinners that were incredibly loud. Shouting & singing as was someone’s birthday. Not a party pooper but it was really not acceptable or fair on other people eating. They were basically screaming & singing at the top of their voices. Food was nice but not what I would call amazing. Meat was cooked lovely. Drinks (cocktails & non cocktails) were OK. Non alcoholic mojitos need working on and I did send the drink back once as didn’t taste like a mojito. The new drink was no different. Really hoping the experience (noise level) was a one off as it really did need addressing but when I looked towards the bar, all staff were just staring at the group…eventually the owner went over but it was a little late. It would have been better to address this as soon as it started. Would I visit again? Maybe..Bury St Edmunds has so much choice of amazing places to eat so would try them first…..

The cafe part felt dirty. The coffee was foul and sugar was in a paper cup with a dirty spoon in it . Thought I would give it a try but wouldn’t revisit.
