The pub and food were fine but, even though I entered my car registration details, I was sent a demand notice for a fine. I see the 'Time of Contravention' was 2 hours after I arrived. Perhaps they put a two-hour restriction on time to eat your dinner? I see from other posts that appealing the fine is pointless and I was treated to the meal so have no receipt. With £100 fine, I won't be coming back. They need to sort this or will lose a lot of customers this way.

Group of ladies at lunch , a couple of us ordered macaroni cheese which was tasteless, and when we pointed it out to the staff who collected the plates (mostly uneaten) was very non plus about our comments on the fact that our meal was not satisfactory.

I was looking for a decent pub to take my wife and grandson to for lunch as there seemed to be slim pickings locally. [Selsdon, Croydon] It was worth the 20 minute drive to this venue. Plenty of free parking but you have to remember to register your car at the bar on arrival. Lots of seating, nice clean eating areas, decor was quirky but nice to look at. We sat in the extension area which was nice and quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff, food arrived in a timely fashion, all well cooked and presented. We had garlic bread to start, then mains of burger, ham, egg and chips and eggs, lots of ham, steak ciabatta and drinks plus sticky toffee pudding and an eaton mess. This came to just under £100. I would recommend this venue and we will visit again, maybe for breakfast.

Came with family to celebrate birthday. Monday lunchtime not busy at all but still had to chase for menus as staff seemed to be messing around with each other. All a bit flirty. Anyway, my advice is skip the starters as they are an absolute rip-off. £10.95 for prawn cocktail and it’s was sooo small with minimal prawns and sauce. Mains were excellent. Truly lovely fish and chips and the peas and sauces were superb. Only had 3 glasses of wine and the bill for 4 of us was £212!! This included a £20 service charge (which I could have debated as service was not great) Overall the value for money was ok if you go for mains only and drink in the Queens head first up the road!!

My family and I chose the Rose and Crown pub for our belated Fathers day drinks. I entered my car's vehicle registration details at the iPad on the bar as instructed. There was no information alongside these self printed signs to advise that the free parking here is actually time limited. It is also not advertised on their website, nor did any member of staff advise us of this. I received a parking fine a few days later. Upon appeal they stated my registration details were not recorded on their system - I was shocked by this and stated I would be happy for CCTV to be viewed to prove I had in fact entered my registration details. Failing this, I sent a bank statement showing I was a customer on that day. GXS sent a rather passive aggressive response with copious photos of the parking signage from Rose and Crown. The only information stating there was a time limit on free parking (which was clear and actually readable) was on their menu, we did not eat anything at the pub and only had drinks, so how are customers in this position meant to know there is a free parking time limit?! I see this has also happened to other customers (registration details not being stored) and it seems nothing is being done to address the issue through open, honest, clear signage regarding time limits to parking. As a family run business I am shocked at how they allow GXS to treat customers and their appeals. Needless to say myself and my family will not be returning here and I will be advising others to avoid it too. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere where they respect and value their customers time, experience, and money.

What can I say about the Rose and Crown? It is bloody brilliant. I had some friends visit me from Ireland over the weekend and I was keen to impress so I took them for a spot of lunch at the Rose & Crown. My friends feedback - It was one of the nicest pub lunches they have ever had even in Ireland ! I also treated them to a bottle of Prosecco for the occasion and was surprised to see it was a generous price of £37.95 as the quality was outstanding. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area and Sean 'our server' was second to none. Regards

We ordered a bottle of Prosecco, a pint of beer , and a Coke Zero …. This came to £48 !!! We enquired re the Prosecco & it was £37 a bottle !!! This is an absolute disgrace … I am a local & I will not be returning and I will be spreading the word !!!

£37 for a bottle of Prosecco is daylight robbery. Should be £20 max. Will not be going back. No wonder these pubs complain they struggle.

Very impressed with food and service. We had a lovely lunch (4 of us plus 2 dogs) and a walk in the woods behind the pub. Recommend the fishcakes, pie, steak and omelette. The service was excellent and our waitress, Caitlin, was quick to provide everything we needed and in a very efficient and friendly manner. Lovely pub.

Warm welcome and they did make an effort to ensure we had all we needed as a large group. I thought the starters were expensive. I enjoyed the vegan burger. Usually places over compensate and all lots of spice. It wasn't spicy and was flavoursome. Fish and chips are a winner here. I did put in number plate details for parking so hopefully all okay. Great garden for kids. Clean loos. Asking for food choices beforehand is a good idea. Less chaotic for all and no delays.

Throughly enjoyed our valentines meal here tonight. We met in this pub 25 years ago so came back to reminisce (although it’s changed so much!) we were welcomed with a genuine snile by Andy the manager who was helpful and friendly, knew we were coming as has pre booked but the whole evening was perfect. The food was really tasty, the table service was spot on, no rush but attentive. Couldn’t fault it at all and will deffo return in the summer to see the garden which I was told is pretty amazing. Came here to meet with friends for the anniversary of our friend passing away, we ordered a lot and paid good money to be there. I then get hit with a £160 for parking, the signs are not clear at all and I was given no instruction by staff. Definitely won’t be returning and will spread the word. Completely money grabbing motives and can see multiple people have had the same issue.

Everything seemed good with the pub, the food was good, friendly service, and not bad badly priced at all. However, two months later, received a parking fine for £170, the parking company claims we failed to respond to any letters. Refused any form of receipt, refused any form of appeal and sent us straight to legal recovery. Disgusting behaviour and will definitely not be returning to this pub due to the archaic parking rules. Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs.

I have been to this pub a few times before without any issues. Things though have changed. At the front door, rather than a friendly welcome, you are greeted by a blackboard warning you to enter you vehicle reg no. once in side or be penalised. A few feet later when you get to the bar, you are then told the same message by a sign on a pillar. When I then tried to enter details on the touch screen machine, it did not work. What a fuss and palaver this all is before you even get to choose your drinks. Totally off-putting and unfriendly. Will not be back.

Food is overpriced. The portions are meagre - don't order the fishcakes if you are hungry - they looked like a starter and the "poached," egg was solid! ☹️

Tables and chairs about to fall apart. Table surfaces sticky to touch. Food not very inspiring when placed in front of you, I had a tasteless burger. Best I can say is, never again.

Wasn’t overly clear, we were served menus to our table and eventually we discovered that the waiter was an illusion and we had to go to the bar to order. Server at the bar was a tad abrupt as we didn’t fit her preferred ordering style. Food, at best was ok. Not exciting, not great pub food just average and unexciting. I ordered a soda and lime and was served a lemonade and lime, couldn’t be bothered to challenge it. Highlight of the visit was the reasonably clean and pretty well set up toilets. Sadly, unmemorable.

Second visit to your amazing pub tonight. Food just as tasty and good value as the first visit. What makes you stand out are your staff. Remembered Cameron from the first visit what an asset to your pub he is . Absolutely outstanding service he made us so welcome and nothing was to much trouble he is a legend and makes you want to visit again one of the nice guys and there are very few of them about nowadays

Can’t believe I’ve never been here before! What a lovely local pub - have driven past hundreds of times but never been in. We have just returned from a very last minute booking for 2 which was accommodated with no problems when we called to see if they had availability and was so happy they still had roasts left at 6pm! Fab quality and plenty of veg variety, the pub is large but has a cosy feel with the fires and fairy lights. Warm, relaxed and friendly service too. Will absolutely be back as a first choice pub going forward, will be back for their live music later in the month!

A lovely pub. Staff good. Food excellent. The only let down was the wine. I ordered a glass of Rioja and it had a acid aftertaste so not very nice and for the privilege it cost £11.00 +. My husband had the guest beer and that was very good as well. I think they probably need to review their wines at that price!!

Lunch was ok and sevice good. However despite registering the car at the bar I received a parking charge notice for £100 just like others have reported. I have appealed but I will no longer take the chance, not worth the stress. Sad, but while they use Gxs parking services they will lose customers. I will warn my friends fir sure.

I had a really enjoyable lunch with my two beautiful daughters. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced and the service was outstanding. The young man behind the bar on arrival was so friendly and helpful unfortunately didnt get his name but had an impressive tattoo on his neck. A young lady called Emily was outstanding she should be commended for her friendly cheery attitude to customers and an asset to the pub

The menu selection was varied, the gluten free options were a pleasant surprise, the main and best part if our experience was the service we received from Ash. He was brilliant! Kind, funny and tentative. I loved it so much that I've booked my birthday dinner there. Thanks Ash!

If you go here be aware they issue parking charges even if you enter your number on the parking machine. Make sure u video the number plate being entered!

I entered my registration number as directed and got the green tick! Okay I thought? Then received a parking fine in the post 2 weeks later. I appealed saying I had a witness to my entry, this was denied. Another friend I was lunching with took a photograph of her entry on the Ipad complete with the green tick. The food is ordinary, not worth going to if your are going to be fined even if you have entered you reg number.

Very enjoyable Sunday lunch! First time to the Rose and Crown for a roast and it didn’t disappoint . We had pork and beef roasts on our table and they were both good! We had booked The Rose and Crown for our Christmas lunch for the second year but due to Covid, our meal was cancelled. However we had the option to buy a Pre prepped Christmas box. Everyone works so hard here to make your visit safe. Staff deliver a great service and the food has never let us down. Had 3 lunches recently in marquee, very successful. Highly recommended.
