Rose and Crown in Edinburgh, City of

Found this place by chance and considering the rules which we all have to abide by, they still make it a warm and friendly place. If you are in Edinburgh pop in for a drink it’s worth it.

Managed to nab an outside table for a drink, service was quick and efficient and a good place to people watch.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Small bar but nice atmosphere, we had nachos as a sharing dish which was lovely but was mostly a drinks only visit. We will be back.

We asked if the terrible soft rock song was a sign of the music we would hear this night. We were told it was a random playlist and we took our chance. Over an hour of terrible pop punk later it's obvious there's nothing random here. I'd avoid it

Mi pareja y yo lo pasamos muy bien en este bar. De hecho, encontró su cerveza favorita "80 chelines de mcewan" (¡Pesado!) El personal era muy amable y educado. Creo que pasamos la mayor parte del viernes por la noche en este lugar. Sin duda recomendaría este bar y sin duda volveremos en nuestra próxima visita a Edimburgo.

Belle place, sur une rue mignonne. Beaux souvenirs. Agréable pour prendre une bière tranquillement (comme dans tout Edimbourg). Les restos de Londres et Edimbourg permettent souvent la présence des enfants dans les pubs, avant une certaine heure (jusqu'en début de soirée). Bon à savoir, car la nourriture est très correcte en général dans ces pubs, pour la famille.

Vi skulle bare ha litt å spise. Valgte nachos. Fantastisk, mye guacamole, rømme og salsa + jalapeños. Hauger med nachos og ost.Godt utvalg av øl.

Visitamos este pub para cenar y nos quedamos muy decepcionados.Pagamos 42. 5 para nosotros dos para la cena (uno irn bru cada uno en eso, sin alcohol) y tanto la calidad de la comida como el servicio que recibimos fueron realmente malos. El queso macaroni era literalmente pasta seca con queso encima (ver foto). Estaba tan seco que no lo comí, pero en ningún momento nadie nos preguntó cómo estaba la comida. Las patatas fritas también estaban grasientas y también las dejamos atrás. En general, fue una decepción total para la comida y el personal no estaba remotamente interesado en el servicio.Evitaría comer en este lugar. Hay muchos otros pubs encantadores cerca para probar en su lugar.

Nous y sommes allées pour dîner avant 20h car après ils n’acceptent plus les mineurs, et j’étais avec ma fille, c’était notre première soirée à Édimbourg, un peu par hasard nous sommes rentrées dans ce pub aux allures très écossaises, nous y avons été très bien reçues, n’oubliez pas que les commandes se font au bar, mais vous êtes servi en salle, ambiance chaleureuse et décontractée, repas un peu gras mais nous nous sommes régalées quand même, verre de vin généreux et ambiance locale,

Abbiamo cenato in questo pub, dove alle 21.30 era programmata musica dal vivo. Insomma pulizia non molta, sopratutto nei bagni. Molta confusione. Si va a ordinare si paga e poi i camerieri portano i piatti e il bere al tavolo. Cibo buono, ma con la musica non si riusciva a parlare. Non è un ristorante.

Disfrutamos nuestro almuerzo y teníamos la intención de volver, pero el tiempo estaba en contra de nosotros. . . . . .

Stopped at this cafe for drinks and enjoyed some ambiance of the city. The staff were great as were the locals that we talked with. Seemed many were headed to a football (Soccer) game. The drinks and the snacks ordered were quite good so if wanting a place to relax this is a good place to stop. Would definitely recommend.

Can You whistle Mucky pub, serving Manky beer by staff who clearly don’t want to be there. with a busker “singing” popular tunes as live music entertainment - oh dear Weatherspoons are doin a better job tonight at 1/2 the price

La comida es buena y a un precio razonable pero el servicio es lento y la música está a un volumen que impide escuchar al interlocutor.

We have chilli veggie with rice and burger with chips. The chips was in a lots of oil and the rice was very dry and without taste. But guinness was excelent.

Top quality food and drink Comfortable seating The young lady who served us was amazing and the chef excellent Melt Burger and the pie were excellent Wines great Nice position.

The pub is located in the New Town on Rose Street. I didn't get the age, but there are old floor boards, an old-looking bar, and low ceilings. Four of us enjoyed burgers--generous and dense meat patties and pretty good chips (French fries). A nice selection of tap beers, but the cask of beer that 3 of our party wanted ran out after a fill of one pint. That was a disappointment as Holyrood IPA is one of my husband's favorite Scottish beers. Drinks and food must be ordered at the bar.

The rose and crown pub is at the rose street. The food is not very good but the coffee is excellent. It is a self service restaurant.

Normale Pub in pieno centro, la location è molto normale ed anche il cibo è nella media e la carta del menù è molto scarna. Comunque nella media, però l'hamburger di Angus non era male.

Pub típico en la famosa Rose Street. Mucha gente local y también extranjeros. Son amables y la carta está bien de precio. Los platos son enormes si bien la calidad es normalita, la hamburguesa se supone que es de carne de Angus pero la ponen tan hecha que no sabe a nada... La atención es buena.

I popped in here yesterday lunchtime for a few pints of Stella £4.80 each and had a very nice fish & chips meal £13. The meal was a good size as well. The pub was pretty full and they were playing nice music too

Soup of the day, tomato and basil, was a fantastic starter. We had the steak and ale pie for an entree Rich and delicious on a dreary day! Great drinks and a cozy atmosphere.

Me encanta Rose Street en Edimburgo, y fuimos a Rose and Crown para almorzar tarde y tomar unas copas el sábado por la tarde. Conseguí una mesa sin problemas ya que la hora del almuerzo había desaparecido. No volvieron a servir comida hasta las 4 pm, pero no tenían prisa, así que estaba bien. Barman amable y servicial trajo a través de menús antes de las 4 pm para que pudiéramos ordenar inmediatamente. Pequeño pub encantador, tradicional en el corazón de Edimburgo. Siempre va a ser más caro en el centro de la ciudad, sin embargo el costo razonable para lo que teníamos. La comida era excelente, uno haggis, neeps y tatties, y un pescado y papas fritas. No me puedo quejar de la calidad, aunque para nosotros las raciones eran grandes (no necesariamente una mala cosa). Pasé unas horas aquí y sin duda volvería la próxima vez que estemos en Edimburgo. Si puedo hacer una sugerencia para mejorar, sería para el personal usar un poco de uniforme, incluso una camiseta con el nombre del pub. Un barman llevaba puesta una camiseta de la NASA, y el otro una sudadera con una gorra de béisbol, y aunque no está mal, podría ser un poco más profesional con un aspecto uniforme.

We stopped here for a light dinner we had the calamari and mac and cheese. Everything was excellent.

Drinks with friends . Called in for one , bar staff friendly and helpful, they let my friend try a bit of ale before deciding on which one to buy . Nice atmosphere. Two rather drunk and loud lads came in and started messing about with the table decorations but the bar staff swiftly but politely put an end to that and off they went which was good . Worth a visit .

Great place to go for a quick dinner. Portions are huge so split! we had the best fish and chips that we had in Britian.

One thing about Edinburgh is when it comes to refreshments or food you are spoiled for choice.

Made a massive mistake coming here,which wont be repeated a second time. Poor beer is bad enough,but coupled with the whining problems of the Australian barstaff was a bridge too far.

Visited for my sister's birthday. Atmosphere good, pub was very busy so we ended up sitting at the only available table near the bathrooms which smelled awful. We ordered food, the steak pie which on the menu says comes with gravy was an overcooked stew with a small pastry lid, very dry and with no gravy. My brother asked the staff for gravy and was told that it was in the pie! I asked and was told I could only have onion gravy which when added to the pie tasted awful. I couldn't finish the meal it was way too dry - avoid the pie, it's nasty!

Becka Rose took a reservation from us after we personally visited this pub for December 15th for a group of 15 people. We met her in person (two of us visited Edinburgh to find a venue from London) and she told us, verbatim that our booking was "no problem".

This is a really lovely pub. We stopped off there very briefly and the place looks really nice. The staff were absolutely wonderful.It's great for a drink or two, or something to nibble on. Highly recommended.

The pub is situated parallel to the main shopping street in Edinburgh centre. We really fancied eating burger and chips and this pub didn't disappoint. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It's not a large place so I would imagine it could get busy at peak times. There was live music advertised for the later in the evening but we didn't stay for it. Would definitely recommend for a reasonably priced meal with a good selection of beers and wines

My partner and I went Rose & Crown public house, on Sunday 11th November 2018. The staff was very friendly, and gave a good service. Good variety of pub grub on the menu. It had a lovely friendly atmosphere, & would definitely go back. Free wi-fi.

Dropped in here for a quick drink after hearing the live music as we walked have a great selection of beers and there was a real buzz about the place.

Ci sono capitato per rifugiarmi dal freddo e ho mangiato costretto dalle condizioni. Il cibo è di qualità media, riscaldato sul momento, ma non pessimo: per la media dei pub, se ci si attesta su uno spuntino, va più che bene. Scelta di birre bassa, ma personale molto gentile e locale discreto. Lo consiglio soprattutto per una pausa birra o per un aperitivo, considerando anche la piacevole posizione nel centro.

Stopped here on way back to hotel from restaurant. Small not overly attractive inside but we really enjoyed our visit and 1 drink soon became 3. Around 9.30 theire was live music, Damien Casey Boyce, which really added to the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. I wanted to try a whiskey but with so many on offer had no idea which to choose. The female bartender on that evening was very helpful asking just the right questions to help me choose.

Ate dinner here and had really good pub food. Ate angus burgers and fish and chips. Love the Rose Street area and it’s cobblestones and old buildings. Space inside is limited so be prepared to wait or sit outside. They have tables along the pub front outside that would be nice in good weather. Servers and employees were very friendly.

Durante il Military Tatoo , dopo parecchi tentativi in altri locali più promettenti, tutti pieni, arriviamo casualmente a questo posto con tavoli liberi. Servizio pessimo, bisogna andare al banco a prendere da bere, fare le ordinazioni e pagare prima. A chi ha preso una zuppa e steak pie è andata discretamente, chi ha optato per calamari e fish and chips ha dovuto fare il conto con disturbi intestinali. Tavoli ammassati e pulizia precaria. Con birra e minerale 20 euro a testa, non tanto ma la qualità è mediocre

Looked nice from outside, service was pretty good, maybe we just chose food unwisely. Had the nachos with pulled pork, hardly any pork, maybe a spoonful on a large size dish, very poor form, otherwise pub was good, had a nice atmosphere, seemed very popular.

Visitamos el Rose and Crown dos veces cuando en un fin de semana en Edimburgo - Primera noche fuimos y había una banda muy buena y el ambiente era genial. Fuimos en la noche siguiente, un poco antes, después de un almuerzo tardío no eran demasiada hambre pero la comida olía tan bien que tenía que tener un vistazo al menú. Decidimos conseguir entradas debido a nuestro almuerzo tarde, pero la comida era tan buena! ! Tuve las bolas haggis, mi novia tenía la sopa del día (tomate) y comimos pan de ajo para compartir. Mi pelotas haggis era increíble! Sin duda recomendaría este hotel a cualquiera

Una experiencia muy agradable y encantador. Mi amigo y yo visitamos este pub/restaurante como accidente y fue muy bueno. Es un poco viejo y sucio ambiente bud es muy agradable. Personal amable y buena comida. Porciones muy grandes. Me encanta el queso Camembert y patatas fritas de camote. Pescado y patatas fritas bien pero muy grande. Gracias por esta experiencia y nos vemos pronto.

Had a couple of drinks here sitting in the outside area on a glorious sunny day. A great place to watch the world go by. Good friendly service at the bar.

Fantástico bar con zona de estar exterior. Era un poco de hambre y Pedimos patatas fritas tomillo dulce eran simplemente delicioso y el mejor que he probado. Tan buena que nos volvimos unas semanas más tarde y en pelotas haggis que eran tan increíble y por supuesto las patatas fritas de camote. El lugar estaba bastante concurrido, pero no impacto en el servicio de ninguna manera. Precioso volveremos pronto.

We stopped in for a quick pub lunch and a drink. We ordered two beers from tap, the fish and chips and the goat cheese salad. My beer was great-husbands was flat. My fish and chips again great, husbands goat cheese salad was so wrong. It was nothing like what we expected or was used too-two over portioned pieces of goat cheese where the salad was drenched in a creamy mustard dressing. Inedible. Poor husband didn’t eat a thing. Should have complained but didn’t want to make a fuss. It was pretty obvious when we left the plate untouched. I guess that’s what you get for eating at pub where quality checking isn’t done. Our bad! Just order the fish and chips or a burger.

Enjoyed a couple of cocktails at the bar, but overall, the ambiance is nothing special nor is the staff overly friendly. In addition, the door woman was gruff and a big curt. Might be her personality, but appreciate friendlier types in the restaurant/service business.

Mis padres y yo nos detuvimos aquí por un capricho mientras camina a través de la ciudad nueva. Acabamos de tener una noche de diversión aquí. Nos sentamos en una cabina al lado de la ventana y disfrutamos del ambiente. Pude probar una nueva sidra, que siempre es emocionante para mí. La comida era buena, aunque no es increíble. Had a so called steak and ale pie while visiting Edinburgh with friends. It was truely awful. My friends were similarly disappointed. High priced, cold day old mash, under cooked tiny serving of peas and a truely underwhelming thin soupy pie topped with a square of supermarket style puff pastry. I felt very unhappy at the end of this experience.

We visited during the Fringe Festival and had trouble finding a pub that wasn't too crowded. We first went across the street to the Snoggley Pig, but wasn't impressed with their selection of beer on tap. The Rose and Crown had just what we wanted. A typical local pub feel, friendly and helpful bartender, and great beer. Rose street seemed to be just far enough from the festival crowds to make for a great experience.

どこに座るのかと聞いたから、窓際に行きたいと言ったら奥へ行けといわれた。日本人だから？と嫌な気持ちになった。次に入ってきた別の人（もちろん白人）は勝手に窓際に座っても何も言わない。せっかくのエディンバラ旅行、この対応だけで台無しになった。二度と行かないだろう。

Very nice lunch and beer for we three pensioners. Good fish, good pie. Will send all our mates from New Zealand to an authentic Edinburgh pub. Scots staff too! Busy and a good atmosphere, the festival buzz without the pressure.

This pub, located in Rose St. (New Town) is the ideal if you are looking for a good beer and some typical dishes of the Scottish cuisine. Music is great, sometimes live, and the staff is Always nice and interested in the customers' satisfaction degree. Food is not expensive.

Called today for a late lunch. The chick pea curry at £9 , was awful. Extremely small portion with salty rice!!!!!The fact that no one else was in there eating should have been enough of a warning, but friendly staff.

We just had one drink here last week. It looked lively enough as we were passing so we decided to give it a go. However, once inside we realised that the music was very loud for such a small place so it was almost impossible to have a conversation. Thankfully the singer took a break after we got there so it was a bit more pleasant then. We left after our drink.

You can sit outside, drink, eat and smoke, quite unusual these days! Very friendly and efficient service. I had a delicious chick pea, sweet potato and spinach curry. For what this place is and where, it was very good and I shall return. Thank you.

Rose Street in downtown Edinburgh is a 3 block pedestrian area filled with a myriad of restaurants, pubs, and bars. We were lucky enough to stop into this little place, The Rose and Crown, a pub with minimum street flare or hoopla, and enjoyed our best meal in Scotland. Local food, local recipes, incredibly lay-back atmosphere and charming, friendly service made our evening lasting memory.

When visiting Edinburgh make sure to vosit this street. For dinner, we went to this pub and had Haggis and fish&chips. The food was good and came hot and we didn't have to wait for is long. They had a one man band who was covering aoldies this evening which added to the atmosphere. Staff was friendly although that might have asked us if we needed anything else. But I guess that's just the way it works in a pub as it is not a real restaurant.Of course we had some pints an got a great taste of Scottish beer. Siamo stati al locale un giorno in cui eravamo gli unici turisti e si respirava proprio l'aria scozzese. Lo staff è gentilissimo e simpaticissimo. Ottime birre e ovviamente whisky. Abbiamo cenato molto bene! Consigliato

We had a great time in the Rose and Crown. They reintroduced me to gin Edinburgh gin specifically and the food was spot on at a great price. The service was good and the haggis was delicious, my Norwegian partner now. Loves haggis and the burger was cooked to perfection (not burnt black like most pubs) would highly recommend and be going again.

Just stopped for a drink with friends sat outside , friends fancied food was told at 2 pm in a Sunday they couldn't do good as shared kitchen with pub across the road , disappointed to see 20 mins later they were offering menus to more folk that had sat outside ! Won't be back !
