A cool pub in a former church. Apparently it's been around for 50 years. It had live musicians who were quite good. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by

Great Place, well worth a visit

Food and drinks hard to get. We also tried for karaoke but our songs never came up although we were there at 9 pm and left when it closed. The same 3 or 4 pub's people kept singing. Avoid the place unless you want to be enraged and disrespected.

One of the best pubs I've ever visited and I've been to alot in my time!!! Staff great but the building and decor!! Wow !!!! Was there for a festival downstairs.

Fantastic pub with it's own resident monster . And big Frankie as well when he makes an appearance. Lively pub great atmosphere and cool music on the saturday night I was there !.

I was traveling from the US and stopped here to eat after seeing the sights in the area. The place has a cool atmosphere and theme and the pizza was soooo good! They did accidentally forget a part of our order but quickly fixed it and were very apologetic about it. Goes a long way when they make an honest mistake and are quick to fix it!

Very cool atmosphere and decoration, delicious food, great cocktails, fast service and a cool show where you can experience Frankenstein “live”, I won’t say anything more. The music is a little louder, but it didn't bother me at all and totally suited my taste. Due to the level of popularity, the prices are a little higher, but in my opinion they are still completely reasonable. By far the coolest bar I've been to so far.

We enjoyed ourselves at karaoke. Everyone was nice there. We were visiting from the US, we had a great time

£3.70 for a pint of soda and lime? That's ludicrous

Awesome atmosphere and Frankensteins 'monster' comes down once an hour to say hello to his fans. The styling of the bar is fantastic and we have visited a few times from Glasgow. The drink prices are very reasonable for the area and they are pretty strong!

Sooo cool of a bar. Got the “Goblet of Fire,” girlfriend got a “Corpsey Colada.” Both were AMAZING!!! Shooters were also nice. “Blood Moon” and “Spicy Bride” both terrific!

We were so disappointed with our visit here (we just left, so we can't comment on food / drink). After seeing good reviews, we were excited to visit! Unfortunately, it was horrible. The smell, like pee and alcohol 😷 We got a photo outside and when entering the smell just hit us. My daughter needed the toilet, so we went downstairs.. that was worse! Broken/ missing toilet handles, dirty seats, the smell, and just the mess. I understand it's a bar and is full of young adults, but the condition of this place is awful. Not child friendly at all. We never went upstairs. We just left as we couldn't sit in that.

Very good experience worth the detour. We weren't able to eat because the kitchen had just closed but the cocktails were very good. In addition, every hour (on the dot), Frankenstein will pay you a little visit.

Popped in early afternoon with my 14yo to see the Monster show, having heard about it from family. Young man behind the bar was very friendly, told us the best place to sit to see the show (which is upstairs in the mezzanine level). Decor is nice, very in keeping with the theme. The show is every hour, and as we had 40 mins to wait we ordered pizza. The pizza was delicious. Service was quite quick, but the bar was quiet, and it was clearly freshly made. The monster show was only a few minutes long, but it was fun and something different.

Fun decor and inside looks pretty cool but bar lines are so long and takes forever to get serviced we actually ended up leaving before being served and this was at lunchtime.

Very good cocktails and reasonably priced pints. Vegan food options available. Monster show every hour!

We didn’t know where we were going to be eating and drinking while in Edinburgh for the day, I’m so thrilled my hubby spotted Frankensteins, we really enjoyed it. We had pizzas and drinks and soaked up the decor and atmosphere.

I have never been similar in bar, I was surprised, Frankenstein performance was so awesome. If you wanna to travel in Edinburgh, I recommend visiting Frankenstein bar 🍸

Fun experience Tasty cocktails (bit pricey, but that's what you get in Edinburgh city centre) I was sitting in the bar area where Frankenstein comes down from the ceiling every hour or so! Great fun Would like to try some food next time Management FYI - There are two overhead projectors on either side of the room displaying a slide show of advertisements from 2023. Would have been nice if they were playing the Frankenstein films or some updated ads 😂

I loved the bar and the drinks were really good, although the cocktails were extremely expensive (some were over a tenner for a small glass) I did enjoy them. The building is beautiful and I loved the gothic environment. My only slight criticism is if you're going for a gothic themed pub you should have a matching playlist which they did not and it ruined the ambience.

If your visiting Edinburgh it's a must to call in for a drink or two. We visited at lunch time but still the place had a great atmosphere

Expensive cocktails, very slow service (had to wait 20 minutes for a cocktail) and they were out of almost all ciders I wanted to order. It's very beautiful though, so worth a visit for that.

We had a fantastic time at this establishment! A cool atmosphere can really elevate a dining experience. Good prices and good service are always a winning combination in my book. I'll have to add this place to my list as the coolest pub so far.

Spectacular pub, with a history and surprises that are worth watching lol for those who are afraid of Frankeinstein it is better not to go!!! A variety of delicious beers, very cozy, comfortable pub and top service! Unique experience!

My bridesmaids recently booked a couple of tables/booths downstairs as part of my hen do and it was such a fab area. We pretty much had the area to ourselves and the girls could decorate it as they like. The food was also lovely and the venue provided some complimentary prosecco - thank you! Great experience all round.

Really can't thank Frankensteins enough for giving us the space they gave us in the Bier Keller last night for my best friend's hen party. You really went above and beyond thank you for the bottles of prosecco that was lovely and so unexpected. We really appreciated it and the bride had a fabulous night.

Great atmosphere, really cozy and amazing creature show. Especially loved the Smokey Hyde drink.

There was supposed to be karaoke on Friday and Sunday, we went on Friday and there wasn't. We ordered for dinner and at 8:00 p.m. they no longer served dinner...

Super way, very well set, it is an old church and at certain times Frankenstein appears. Very cozy and pretty.

Exceptional bar. Charaoke on Fridays and Sundays. Definitely worth a visit.

A « quizz night » organised : you have to pay 2£ in order to participate. Only one person participated to the quizz in a group of 5 people, however, we all had to pay 2£ even if only one person participated to the game !! How to make money…

Went there on a student night. The almost hourly frankenstein even was super cool to see and certainly added to the atmosphere. Drinks were pretty cheap too, which was good. However it did get rather packed, and therefore it became hard to get to all parts of the bar, especially as there didn't seem to be enough staff on that night. Either way, great place, would go again and would highly recommend 😎

this pub had really cool spooky themed drinks, which were very good. The ambience was really nice as well. The pizza left much to be desired though. The service- well they were nice but you had to get your drinks yourself and then stumble up the stairs if you had the misfortune of not getting a seat downstairs. But overall really worth a visit.

Crazy! A fantastic location for this horror themed pub. There was even an animatronic performance; soft lights and a cot that lowered from the ceiling, with the body of the creature brought to life. You order at the counter.

Atypical and pleasant pub. I entered when there were few people, I was able to enjoy the decor. The sound of the music is not too loud, you can hear yourself talking, which is a great pleasure for me. And the pub seems to have plenty of evening entertainment. I tried to go there yesterday but they seemed to have a bit of a problem. So I can't wait to come back there on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Truly disgusted by the way one the bouncers and manager behaved towards me - mocked and bullied me for absolutely no reason. I was there for a work crew event for Gulliermo Del Toro’s new film Frankeinstain. At the entrance, they let me in without asking for my ID, which I took out to show them and accidentally dropped in the hall. I then went out and after a minute realised I had lost my ID. I kindly asked if I could go back in to have a look. The bouncer (a woman) aggressively talks towards me pushing me back when I try to explain that I was already checked in and wanted to quickly have a look for literally 30 seconds on the floor of the pub. With 0 compassion or problem solving skills adapted to a case, she proceeded to ‘intimidate’ me by saying she’d call the ‘big guy’ over there referring to one of the managers. All of this, laughing and mocking almost enjoying the fact I wasn’t being helped. I find this shocking as I see people who create issues at the door sometimes but I’m extremely mellow, kind and sober. Not to mention the fact I’m a petite guy, only 5’7 and felt unsafe with these people shouting so close at me for no reason. As if the size of somebody else should intimidate someone else, really? I have to say, It really felt racist and homophobic, that is the only reason why I could justify such unnecessary behaviour towards a queer person and that doesn’t look or sound ‘Scottish’ and is gender non conforming. They just decided they were not going to help me and they were going to act in a vile way on top of it. Of course I’ll never want to spend a penny in there nor recommend it to nobody else. But I’m sure they don’t need customers help in anything since they treat them like gargabe. I would strongly advice to take your customers a bit more seriously and make judgment calls based on situations, thank you

Ran out of wine glasses. Jokingly said to bar man put them in pint glasses which he then did 36 pounds for 4 wines in pint tumblers very sophisticated not. Pub very busy so didn't have to make an effort.

Amazing atmosphere and amazing theme. Loved the drinks! I have accessibility needs due to a spinal condition and it was very easy to navigate.

I remember getting dinner at frankensteins a few years back and having a great meal. This time round, it was not great. Almost verging on inedible. The pizza, in particular, was really not very nice at all. It was so far removed from an authentic pizza, in fact that I think it potentially breaches the trade descriptions act by calling it one. The chicken wings had a relatively tasty batter however again overall just not great. I'm not a drinker but if I was I'm sure frankensteins would be a great place to hang out, drink, socialise. The interior is cool and looks amazing. Food wise though. I would save your money.

I went in to buy a ticket for a singer who dressed as Elvis and sang very well...I enjoyed that afternoon a lot, but much more, the figure of Frankenstein and the rise and fall of his platform. Unexpected and fantastic!!

Freezing cold, expensive and noisy (it's impossible to talk to anyone). Also features supposedly scary animatronics.

Loved this place . The vibe was amazing and I loved the building itself as well . The staff was very friendly and helpful . We don't drink alcohol and they showed us the mocktails and put all their time and love to make us delicious mocktails . We also had the chance to see Frankenstein rising as well 😉. We just had some food somewhere else so we didn't eat there but when we passed some tables I have to say that it looked so delicious . Definitely worth to have a drink and something to eat .

Sad to say it, but this place is way overhyped. We went during a non-busy time, and it took us forever to get our drinks and our food. The drinks were 90% ice and we paid £10 for just one. The staff weren’t very polite, only took our order, and just walked away. The Frankenstein showing was pretty cool and everyone was interested in it, but that was the only thing we liked about this bar. So disappointed.

I had a truly frightening time, my wife died of sheer shock midway through our dining experience, Frankenstein scared her to death, we tried using the good doctors own methods in order to bring her back to life, yet once again this lead to a terrible monster reaping terror in home town. 10/10 would go again

Spotted this bar when in Edinburgh in 2021 but didn’t have time to visit. Now living in Scotland, we came back to Edinburgh for the weekend and visited here for a quick drink so I could finally see the place and get it off my mind. Big mistake. My mind is now even more stuck on the place after falling in love with it! The atmosphere of here made me feel right at home, the music is right up my street, the decor is amazing, and as far as themed bars go, this place could not be any more perfect. I didn’t want to leave after our drink, but we had more things planned for the day so I had to. Now planning coming back in December for my birthday so I can spend a whole day here

Cool theme, but they could do so much more with it. Frankenstein being lowered from the ceiling and rising from his slab was great. Rather than hard rock, they should play 'The Monster Mash' and similar tunes. The menu was VERY limited and pricey. but the pizza was good. Not the place to go if you are hungry.

Good food, great drinks, and the atmosphere was everything. We just happened to be there when they had speed trivia and had a blast participating! Highly recommend whether you stop in for just a quick drink or stay for a while.

this is the kind of place that makes you stay for a couple of hours, everything about it is amazing; on the ground level, there's a bar, while on the upper level, it's more of a restaurant, but orders don't vary. the service was great, the staff members were very nice, and overall, it was a quick wait for our food — i was there during a busy period, but still managed to find a seating area in the corner. it was a cosy, hidden away table with privacy. i'd say the seating beside the railing can comfortably fit two people on each side. it's a perfect place for a hang-out spot or to relax from walking across the city. bonus points for the music, which was literally AMAZING. to this day, i'm trying to find a playlist that remotely sounds as great as the soundtrack in this place. it's versatile, it's dark, but still picks up mainstream songs that are enjoyed by many. the atmosphere is better than anything i've ever seen, and it's bound to bring a smile to your face ^ _ ^

Went on a rainy Tuesday lunch time, not actually too busy, managed to find a table. Ordered at the bar - disappointed that the smoke machine wasn't working and staff at the bar didn't seem to know how to rectify this - so had to choose a different cocktail. Went for a daquari instead, to then just find out this is on draught.... So over priced imo. Drinks issues let this down. Food however was really nice, and Frankenstein making an appearance from the ceiling was a great added extra

I stopped in for a couple of pints and was blown away. The service was unbelievable, two very handsome strapping young lads served me, the beer was also amazing! Firstly I asked for a pint of Tennets, this lovely tall blonde guy served me and I was almost sad when he gave me my perfectly poured pint because it meant I had to stop staring at his gorgeous features. After my first pint I decided I would like another but wanted a bit more, so I went for a stein of Tennets. At first I was disappointed not to see the same lovely bar tender but this was soon fixed when a muscular man with a fantastic mullet served me. Once again the drink was gorgeous and I was thrilled with my stein of beer. I would highly recommend stopping in frankensteins for a drink or few, the atmosphere and design of the pub is super, 5/5!!!!

Food was subpar. Drinks were so-so. Music is ok. The table didn't stick enough and the purple monster wasn't purple. The evening was not a success

Swooped in for a quick drink and a snack. Quirky pub, feels like you’re queuing for a ghost train at a theme park… but you’re allowed to have booze and loaded fries whilst you soak up the atmosphere... no complaints there. The staff were really friendly and the food came out quickly with a smile. We ordered 1 loaded fries and 1 garlic bread between 2 of us, so not a feast but the food was a good accompaniment to a pint, they didn’t scrimp on topping on the fries. Only downside was that the ladies loos were more like ‘club toilets’ rather than a restaurant (the venue straddles both worlds) and could do with a bit of fixing/lick of paint, or at least a loo roll holder. That said, they were clean. Loved the Frankenstein themed decor and the fact that the venue plays the original Universal Studios outing of the movie on repeat on several screens throughout the venue. If you stick around long enough there is a little animatronic treat that never fails to impress. We visited on 26/08 circa 1900hrs.

I literally went in to get photos while my family picked somewhere more kid-centric to eat. But omg this place is amazing. The ambience alone is phenom. Really rad, highly recommend, I'm bummed I couldn't return to take advantage of the bar menu!

We visited frankensteins bar while spending 3 days in Edinburgh. Great place. My husband had the pizza and chips and said it was delicious. The staff are really friendly. We will definitely go back again.

Great little venue for the Edinburgh Festival really quirky surroundings Bar staff provided a great service.We were provided great entertainment by Georg Tormann who performed his tribute to Frank Sinatra,we think Frankensteins is a great venue and already looking fwd to our next visit

Was surprised at level of service at this themed pub, they could easily rip off tourists during the festival but there prices were all reasonable and the bar staff are friendly and serve you quickly. The pub was heaving because there was a quiz on but the staff still managed to look happy and work efficiently.Well done we'll be back to try the food next time. Thanks

Not too Ghotic but a funny cafe with very cool elements such as a small show. Good cocktails, but we had to wait a very long time for porter fries. A visit is worth it!

Not sure I’d recommend, I guess if you’re a big Frankenstein fan it would be good for a laugh. Some of the wait staff seemed bothered that we were there, although there was one or two who were welcoming. Drinks were fun, kept with theme of the place and were tasty. The food menu is super limited and took forever to get an order of truffle fries and cheesy garlic bread. The fires had minimal extra flavor and the bottom ones were floating in oil. I’d go back for drink only and a laugh.

If you thought Oliver Harris was good as Elvis he was even better as Roy Orbison. Saw both shows today , Elvis was great but Orbison was Heartbreakingly brilliant

Superb decor. One floor with corners for two or four. Incredible cocktails. And once an hour the show of the creature which comes out of the top of the room, goes down and comes up again. It's to be seen.

I was told about this pub and just had to visit. I love these types of experiences. The food was OK (limited menu), but the pizzas were good, the drinks were great, the staff were great and the atmosphere was amazing. I'll be back next time I visit Edinburgh

Visited as part of the Fringe Festival. Saw an amazing act there which we loved so much we visited twice to see him (Oliver Harris as Elvis/Roy Orbison. Venue is really unique, love the decor, great atmosphere. Can get busy!

A special place in an old converted church and space dedicated to Frankenstein. Nice but not to eat there.
