Frankenstein Pub in Edinburgh, City of

I'm sure this is amazing when full of people, not your midweek day drinking place to be though food is good, cocktails good, pricey but everything neat the mile is at least you feel your getting some value for your money.

A 19th-century church has been turned into a Frankenstein-themed bar from Mary Shelley's novel. Inside, there are cabins for 2 people each, surrounded by Tesla coils and plasma lights. The cleaning of the tables seemed to be a bit slow. The music sounded loud and very loud. You may stop by while passing through a different environment.

Incredible and kind waitresses and top cocktails, I recommend!

I strongly recommend the truffle Parmesan fries!!

Literally the best bar in Edinburgh if you want to see Frankenstein come to life while you drink. If you want to see Frankenstein, don't go to any other bar in Edinburgh, Frankenstein won't be there. Just go to Frankensteins, right to the source. Get a good view. Get a beer, they are ok prices. Don't get a spooky cocktail, they are a scam. If you enjoy theatrical Frankenstein revelations you'll love this place.

Such a cool Frankenstein themed bar in Edinburgh that's definitely worth checking out! 🧌 I've never seen anything quite like this before but love it. Every 30 minutes a statue drops down from the ceiling and everyone gathers round. Prices for drinks are ok, they do have a large selection. There aren't many options for food apart from chips but it's pretty good. Staff are all friendly and approachable. It's not too busy on weekends but worth booking in advance. 👍

Fun little themed spot. We popped in for lunch as a family. I wouldn’t say it was the most family friendly, but they were accommodating enough and we weren’t the only one with kids there. Not sure about the evening though. My guess is the bar gets pretty busy and the noise level gets loud. A regular UK offering at the bar (nothing special) and the food was fine. Not sure I would go back but it was fun to experience once. The themed decorations are cool.

Had a table booked for months when we arrived no table was booked for us and we ended up with not a good one. Been here many times and the drinks are usually amazing but the monster cocktail has gone down hill. Used to be able to order steaks and burgers. Now it’s just pizza and chips. I used to call Frankenstein’s my favourite pub but after this experience it’s not even in my top 10. Very sad hopefully will improve.

Food was great, staff were very friendly and helpful. Frank show was fun. Definitely recommend.

Curious place with quite innovative decoration. There was a good live rock concert and, if it weren't for the fact that we had to order at the bar and get a hot pint of Tennents, I would give it a higher rating. I don't have an opinion on the cocktails, since the ones on other tables had quite a variety and looked good, but we had beers.

Not a huge menu selection, but you expect that with a bar, I'd think. The atmosphere is amazing and well worth the visit!

A unique Frankenstein style bar

This was a fun pub to grab drinks. It is horror themed and we had a good laugh every hour when the “show” took place and Frankenstein’s monster popped out. Good vibe, reasonable prices, busy on the Saturday night we were in.

Awesome decor, great prices, a monster that descends from the roof. What more do you want?

We went on a Tuesday after drinks at another pub and to our surprise we stumbled upon trivia night. As a bunch of Americans wanting to prove our worth of course we joined (it wasn't free, but wasn't expensive). We didn't do too bad! The drinks were reasonably priced and bar service was fast. Definitely got lucky with snagging a table as most were reserved. Such a fun memory.

I've heard a lot about this place and was so intrigued I simply had to visit, but I won't be calling ever again unless/until they revert back to using cash and not using card, upon ordering a drink unbeknownst to me I payed for a service charge😡 (and I was stood at the bar being served, not sat at a table BEING served drinks🤬) I know it was only a small charge/tip but if I went to the bar several times how much would it have cost me 🤷 plus other paying customers STANDING at a bar 🍻 I thought tipping was AFTER service as a nice gesture (be vigilant please people, always ask do they take cash, if not then check your receipt)

Utterly brilliant frankie themed 2 level bar. All they do is pizza and we had chicken and barbecue and was lovely. Standard pricing and a frankie comes alive horror animatronic show to boot, will be back

Sadly we didn't have a great time here. Visited on a Friday lunchtime and the place was empty, but we still were served drinks in dirty glasses, and had to have some drinks replaced as the soda gun left gunky bits floating on top of them. The food is extremely expensive for very poor quality dishes, the service was slow (some people in our party had almost finished eating by the time others were served) and the menus were really sticky. The toilets were absolutely filthy and had no toilet roll. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place. The theming is decent but that's the only positive. Everything else was a massive disappointment.

Can't comment on food, was looking forward to visiting this place, was very let down, it was like getting brown pants when you wanted a addidas trakki as a 10yo kid. Bar person didnt have a clue about any of the drinks available, very expensive. Can't knock the building and decor and atmosphere, was near empty tho.

Sly detail, 5% service charge(discretionary???) added, even though we just had a drink. Stated at the very bottom of food menu, in small print! Finished drink and went!

This was one for my bucket list. Love Frankenstein by Mary Shelley even have tattoos. Unfortunately the service was crap, staff were very rude. Expect for one lady. Food was nice, pub is brilliant really enjoyed watching the movie while we ate and drank. Don't think we will return and that disappoints me.

Well what can I say other than is this place breaking the law? Ordered two cocktails at £9.60 each, should have come to £19.20. Price was actually £20.14, a difference of 94p. Looking at menu to find in the smallest of writing, under food menu there was an "optional" service charge of 5%. Now when I paid on my card, the barman did not inform my of this so the option was taken away from me immediately! This is on EVERY transaction you make, so for example, you are in there having a few drinks with your mates, there 4 of you and you each buy a round, that's a likely £4.00 this place is making for nothing more than serving you at the bar for drinks only. This cannot be right or legal, surely the person serving you should inform the patron of this EVERYTIME they serve them. Please yourself how you do it for food, but not for dinners and TELL us EVERYTIME we pay.

Came here on a weeknight our first day in town visiting. Drinks: Overall our drinks were afforable for being a touristy area. Service was friendly but so very slow. While only a few dozen were there that evening, we only ever saw one employee. Customers ended up ordering multiple rounds at once, which seemed to back the que up. Atmosphere: THE BIGGEST SELLING POINT. The overall vibe of the space is immersive. The space was a former church(?) so there's a lot of unique architectural designs that were embraced when the bar was built. They do a unique little mini show /presentation roughly every hour of the monstor coming to life from a setup built into the back wall and hung from the ceiling. Very theatrical. Facilities: There are several spaces to sette in and enjoy your drinks. We loitered the balcony opposite the entrance door so we could people watch, but there seems to be a bit for everyone. The booths upstairs seem to be a bit more intimate if you want to feel its more private, main floor has space for larger groups to sit or stand and theres a more cozy spacw downstairs that wasn't being used while we were there (felt more "pub" like). I would recommend it for the atmosphere and unique theming. Drinks are solid. It might be overwhelming if packed.

Terribly dissapointed. Popped in early on to have a look about and a drink hoping to return in the evening ;however the service was terrible even tho there was maybe 3 other people in there ? Took the Staff 3 tries to pull a pint of Heineken with less than 40% of the pint being foam. Then they explained there was a gratuity added per drink but had no reason as to why? After paying £9 for a pint of Heineken and a small lemonade we took a seat only to notice literally everything was dirty. From the THICK layer of dust in all the "props" to the sticky chairs and table it was dissapointing from the second we went in. Definitely wouldn't reccomend anyone make the journey just to visit.

I went with my eleven year old son who was allowed in the bar until 8pm. The chap at the bar was helpful and friendly when I asked about their children’s policy and was helpful in us finding a table given many were reserved for the weekly quiz. We were sat near the Frankenstein show, which we enjoyed when The Creation made his visit. We had pizza, which was fine pub grub. The pub was was decorated in the style you would imagine and TV screens show an old Frankenstein film on repeat. When the Frankenstein show started, everyone stopped to watch, and it lasted a couple of minutes. It was good quirky fun. We really enjoyed it - we’ll be back.

First came here at least 15 years ago, was great to revisit recently on our Edinburgh break. Atmosphere is fun and entertaining with Frankenstein making an appearance every hour, small food menu pizza and fries, not sure how much more was available, didn't see full menu. Great place for students, they have student nights with cheaper drinks. Old movies playing on big screens and spooky decor, must be great at Halloween. Only gripe are the toilets need updating, but all in all a fun place, worth a visit 😊

The place should get a 10 number. Here you will have a unique experience regardless of what time of day and week you come. The music is super well selected, great DJs here. The food is simply at the top, here you get something for the money, and it also tastes super good when you want more. Every time I'm in town I just have to visit the place. Can therefore only warmly recommend the place.

Super fun place! The decor is amazing, spooky, and fun. The old Frankenstein movie was playing and had subtitles which was awesome. The drinks are pretty expensive for what they are, but yum nonetheless.

Nice pub with a cool concept. The place is always packed, it’s best to be prepared to wait. There is a Frankenstein show every 30 minutes so keep an eye out for that.

Cuando fuimos estaba hasta arriba con mucho ambiente y aún siendo grande cuesta moverte. Es una iglesia reconvertida en pub con varias plantas. Bebida y diversión. No puedo evaluar la comida ya que solo fuimos a beber unas pintas bien frías.

This is one of the coolest pubs ever! Frankenstein actually comes alive every hour or so, really cool! The drinks weren't badly priced and the food is okay, £5 for 3 pieces of garlic bread was very excessive though!

We went Karaoke Sunday tonight and it is a blast. We are on vacation/holiday from USA. Everyone is friendly and this place has great theme, great drinks and great staff and DJ. A real pearl in Edinburgh 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Disappointing to say the least. We visited Edinburgh for my birthday this year, and as it landed on a Saturday we were excited to go and check out the night life on offer. This place has been on my list of places I wanted to visit for a while, and as it was within walking distance of the hotel I could not wait to go! The décor is fantastic, both outside and inside. However this is let down by the drink prices and the awful music. This place could make a fantastic rock bar, with the décor to suit, sadly it is now taken over by youths, with no taste in music. Such a shame... Unless there is an update on the music, we wont be visiting again, there are plenty of places to listen to "dance/pop" music, scattered around Edinburgh, but not many "rock bars". Seem to be missing a trick! Service was ok, waited a while to be served, but that was expected for a Sat night. Didn't stay long due to it not being our scene at all.

Been many times before and always great service. Never had food there but heard great things. I saw that they sell shirts and hoodies and the staff were great at getting g the t shirts so I could look and see which size would fit. Going back for a hoodie. :)

Dropped in here during a visit to Edinburgh first week in January 2024. We always make a point of having a few drinks in Frankenstein! I love the atmosphere in the place, it's dark and it's pretty creepy! Nice, comfortable and warm though. Great drink selection (expensive) and staff. Only downside is the people that aren't capable of queuing!

I had heard from a family friend. This is a place to go. Unfortunately for us, it was dead. We sat upstairs for the view. No one in their bar maybe 4 people, 3 of them were the staff. It might have been because it was 1 pm. So next time we are up. We will go for the evening.

Great venue, loved the decor, we had fancy cocktails 🍸. The food was really nice, we had a selection of pizza, chips and wings. Started getting busy around 8.30, when the band played. Had a really good evening, thankyou.

Every trip to Edinburgh I make sure to have a drink in Frankenstein. If you love haunted houses/gothic interior then this is the place for you! The menu has been greatly reduced and by way of food it's pizza and a limited selection of sides. The drinks vary from cocktails to shooters to wine and beer. Fair prices for the city centre and staff were all great. It's a student place with promotions for those with student ID.

We thought we were gonna have a good night there but turned out it was a complete tourist trap. Avoid at all cost. Ordered four drinks and some special chips. The monster signature drink tasted like cough syrup and the chips had a teeny tiny bit of Parmesan and fake truffle oil which was awfully bad. It happened to be a Wednesday quiz night and they didn’t tell us it was £2 per person until the end of it, never have we ever been to a paid quiz night…? Anyways it was not a great night. There are definitely some other bars and pubs around the area that are worth a try. Very overhyped and overpriced. And upstairs is freezing cold…

Tasty pizza and amazingly friendly staff. Cocktails had me and my partner wanting another round of them, 9 quid for a good cocktail well spent.

Interesting themed venue with a selection of beer & cocktails on offer. A bit pricey for drinks but ok for a quick pit stop on route to other places. Saw some people with children in here, didn't think that was very appropriate, more suited to students & adults. More seating available on the mezzanine level.

Very busy, it was raining when we called and the steps can be slippy leading up to upper level. Been once for the experience not sure if I'd go again.

We had a great time at the Frankenstein pub with our 6-year-old. The pizza was delicious and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our son loved the spooky atmosphere and the monster show. We would definitely recommend this pub to families.

The female bar staff was Soo polite and friendly, she helped me decide what food was nice and had brilliant customer service. The bar has a great atmosphere and it's clean and well designed. Fully enjoyed it and will be back

I love Frankensteins their staff are so friendly and helpful. Their drinks are top teir and I might’ve got my partner addicted to the drinks there. Ordered a fishbowl last time we were there and it was amazing! Hopefully I’m back soon!
