Upon arrival we were assigned a room where the window did not close properly. We almost had to beg the front desk to change rooms. They moved us to a disabled room in the basement which also had very few amenities. I wouldn't go back!

When I booked into this hotel I noticed that the room lacked a fridge and a fan. The bathroom is big and spacious and the location is central of Edinburgh. Honesty I wouldn’t come here again it’s over priced for what you get there’s even no completely breakfast.

So this was our second time staying at the Place Hotel, and I purposely chose to come back here as I enjoyed our first stay, however I'm not sure I would book a third time.... Firstly the rooms were spotlessly clean, we were in the "pirate" themed suite, and they are a good sized room, classic I guess Georgian era house with high ceilings and large windows, equally large bathroom with a standalone bath. Bed was comfy but not brilliant, and unfortunately this time we stayed the room was at the front of the building, so we had a choice between being unnecessarily hot, or hearing an unnecessary amount of noise from the road. Air conditioning would have been welcome here. Our first morning showers were cold.... Not as refreshing as it sounds after the sweaty night. Also there were bottles of water provided but when I enquired about replenishment was told it's only once per booking. Staff were friendly, breakfast is ok but not sure it's worth the price and you have to weigh up against convenience. What I struggled with most today was as I walked past the premier inn a few doors down to get my tram to the airport I thought I'm not sure what I got above and beyond at the Place that I wouldn't have at the premier inn.... Apart from what I imagine was a larger bill

We chose this accommodation because we were taking the bus to Inverness the next morning and the bus station is just on the opposite side. We checked in at midnight; the receptionist was friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, our room was under the roof, which meant that we first had to climb 3 "normal" floors and then a smaller staircase. For me, as a lung patient, it was a struggle to reach the room. We would have liked a lift. The room was quite small but clean. The bed and shower are a bit too small for taller people. Unfortunately the window couldn't be opened, but there was a fan in the room. We can't say anything about breakfast because we didn't eat any. Conclusion: The accommodation is fine for one night.

The location is hard to beat--very close to most of the action but the street is relatively chill (at least during the day). The suite we stayed in was different than we expected, essentially a 2-bedroom basement apartment with a large living room, kitchen and two bathrooms. Equipped with almost anything you'd need and would be great to rent out with a group of friends for a special event. We loved it! The biggest downside for me was how loud it was at night, which is out of the hotel's control. But because the apartment itself is a short walk from the hotel reception and close to the street, it kept sounding like people were right outside the window and didn't feel completely secure.

We were really happy to be upgraded to a huge, superior room by Front Office Manager, Bogdan, when we arrived. This was his way of thanking us for being so accepting of having to eat early that evening because of a large function in the hotel. They also left a small dish of fruit and cookies for me with Happy Birthday piped on it which was very much appreciated! Great customer service! The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful - a credit to the hotel. We had an Itison deal which included breakfast both days and dinner the first night and a cocktail each. The dinner menu choice was small but adequate and tasty and the cocktails were lovely. Breakfast choice was excellent. The hotel is so well situated in Edinburgh and we will definitely be back!!

Behind an unassuming door on a typical New Town Street lies this deceptive clasy hotel. Made up of three former Georgian townhouses, it has high-class comfy public rooms, bar, and restaurant. Out back is a nice terrace for a smoke and a coffee and further giant covered terrace which must be used as an event space for weddings etc. As it was winter, so the retractable roof was on, and the space was set out with table tennis and table sports. All in all, a very nice sympathetic conversion of an 1850s townhouse with grand Georgian rooms with perfect proportions. Scottish breakfast was excellent quality, and every single member of staff was polite and eager to help.

I have only listed the service with such a low star count as I've had nearly no interaction with any member of staff beyond getting checked in and found them to be friendly. The location of the hotel cannot be faulted, it's pretty much within the centre of Edinburgh within easy reach of everything you need and a tram stop about 4 minutes walk away. I read reviews complaining about the stairs and thought to myself "really, how bad can it be! That's very minor" but staying here I can confirm that I would not like to be on the top floor (three floors up) carrying luggage. This is no fault of the hotel as a lift or elevator for our American friends, would be cost prohibitive considering the building. The stairs wouldn't put me off staying but it is something that should be noted. I stayed in November, I am from Scotland so to me I found the hotel incredibly hot. I opened my window as wide as I could (which isn't much) and used the fan provided in the room. I would be unlikely to stay in the hotel again, there is nothing wrong with it but you can stay in a "budget" hotel chain for a lot less and have breakfast included along with lifts/elevators as well as air conditioning. The rooms as generic and nothing special, pretty much like a budget hotel would be

I called The Place to book a table on Friday the 30/09/2022 the call went directly to answer machine. I left a mess to book a table for 8 adults and 5 children for Lunch Sunday 02/10/2022. 2:00pm in the afternoon. They stated on the answer machine that they would call me back. No return phone call was received, so 8 called the a further 8 times to confirm the booking, went straight to answer machine again. All day Sunday whilst out with m6 sons and grandchildren I was apprehensive due to the fact that had not received conformation of my booking. So when we all arrive at The Place they had no clue as to m6 booking, which annoyed me completely. Anyway I ordered the food, macaroni and cheese, loads of other food, bill came to about £115.00. The macaroni and cheese had chicken in it, which my daughter-in-law absolutely hated. The chips were disgusting fried twice and so hard you would have broken your teeth on them. The macaroni and cheese was a child’s portion. My youngest son had stake pie, this was just served with chips, again break your teeth stuff. I got the lentil soup and a bread, the soup was so salty it was uneatable. My oldest son got the chicken nacho that was just Doritos chicken and cheees no other sour cream ect. The food was absolutely awful. The staff behind the bar stand and chat constantly, they served us out the food then brought the knives, forks and condiments. I have been here before with my sons and grandchildren and the food was absolutely lovely, certainly no now, just bland food is served. I should have taken my sons and grandchildren to Morrison’s the food is far superior that they serve at the Place and it would have cost me a lot lot less than the £115.00 There was some mention to me about a new chef, well he need to be sacked, he has no idea what kind of food people expect to eat in a kind of establishment like the Place, especially in Stockbridge, you expect far far more. No Child’s menu either, which is an absolute joke as it’s family’s that go there to eat. Just a complete and utter waste of my hard earned money. And I am a pensioner who can I’ll afford to wast money.

We were welcomed and left our bags with reception whilst we parked the car and the bags were taken to our room in the meantime. The room was clean and comfortable but for the price we paid £179 not including breakfast we expected a little more. The hospitality tray was basic no biscuits or hot chocolate. The room had a fantastic view right across to the sea. However there had been a function on and it was very noisy until the early hours. Also the sound from other rooms woke me up I could hear people running water and walking about in their room. Also be aware there isn't a lift so not suitable if you a have mobility problems.

Cannot fault the location of this hotel, surrounded by gorgeous architecture, the tram stop to the airport stops right outside and everything you'd want to see is within a half hour walk. The hotel itself is fine- the rooms were nice and clean with comfortable beds. Our room was on the basement level which meant that we had very poor phone service, the hotel does offer wifi codes but the wifi is so slow it was completely redundant, which made planning our days out slightly tricky. The bar serves some pretty good cocktails, we didn't eat at the restaurant but the menu looked quite limited and basic. There is a really good terrace which is set up with heaters and lots of blankets which is a nice place to relax with a drink.I think it is just the little touches that let the hotel down- the selections of teas in the room was disappointing, the toiletries provided were not restocked and the decor is generally a bit tacky. Other than that it is a comfortable hotel with very friendly staff in a brilliant location!
