Had a lovely time there last weekend. Even when busy the wait wasn't too bad. Will be back!

Amazing staff! I was recommended whiskeys by supervisor Ben and he was incredibly helpful and had so much knowledge on all of the whiskeys they carried! Food was incredible and over all atmosphere was great!

Such a fab wee pub! Been a couple of times now and love the atmosphere. I definitely recommend the toad in the hole. Staff are lovely - big thanks to Ben for going off menu and making me a delicious mocktail so this pregnant gal could join in the fun 😊

Absolutely lovely small bar on the Grassmarket, with friendly bar staff, three TVs for sports and good pints. Especially lively for big sports events, and often has live music. Food is also great - always ask about the specials! I had the Baked Camembert special that was available and it was brilliant, with crispy warm baguette slices.

The fish and chips are unreal. Friendly staff and the live music is great.

Love the vibe of this place! Have had a lot of great nights here. And the staff are great too. Tanisha is really sweet when working.

Dined here last night. We had the haggis and the loaded fries. Service was excellent and the servers were very attentive. Will definitely be back.

A nice pub to have a quick lunch or dinner

We went here for dinner on the recommendation of a tour guide Environment with particular typical Scottish furnishings, just a little cold. Below average food, little choice, personally I took a couscous (which was a fregola but never mind the subtlety), but there was a quantity of salt and oil that made it inedible Staff who were not attentive to service and not very helpful, they forgot the cutlery, they closed the kitchen without warning, not giving us the opportunity to order anything else. We raised our hand to call them and were scolded for rudeness. I don't recommend it

Cards on the table, tried to get into The Last Drop for lite lunch but they were queuing for entry so stuck our heads in Maggie Dicksons next door! Great decision! Good lager, solid IPA, lovely atmosphere, prompt service and delicious food! 2 person booth opposite the bar allowed us to watch the sport and the other drinkers/diners 👍🏼 perfect. fries loaded with haggis, cheese and whiskey sauce were especially good 👍🏼

Super bad, don't take a credit card and act as if it's your fault! Even though you asked before. Afterwards you have to withdraw money from the bank or pay with a normal card and fees. Never again thank you for nothing!!

I have never met such rude staff in all my life. The manager (male) in particular was awful. From the moment we walked in, the bouncer was rude. The staff were rude and unhelpful. Do not go to this place if you want have good customer service. If it wasn’t for the live music we would have left sooner than we did. Ii will never be back.

Nice Scottish bar and restaurant where the local population is represented. Toad in the hole is one of the local dishes.

Horrible food. Nachos were served with rotten avocado and the baked camembert was served with days old bread. They still charged us full price for both uneaten meals, however. Avoid this place.

Pub like many others in Edinburgh but if you discover the absurd yet terrifying story of poor Maggie Dickinson perhaps between one course and another, a pint of beer and a whisky, you will feel like you are in another place.

For me, the best Pub in Edinburgh. Very friendly. Beer at its point, on tap. Fish & Chips to take note. Price.... Edinburgh is very expensive.

Staff were fantastic with us after we were late for a booking and then had to leave early due to Avanti train cancellations. Superb bar with great atmosphere.

Fantastic place with fantastic service!

Couldn’t believe how rude and aggressive a male member of staff was to the group I was with (3 x males and 1 female. All in mid 50s) I observed him displaying the same behaviour to other patrons. When I spoke to the manager he tried to fob me off by saying it was a misunderstanding while the staff member smirked at me behind the manager’s back. Won’t be going back ever.

I visited the store at noon, and the store had a cheerful atmosphere with both staff and customers. If I have a chance to go to Edinburgh, this is a restaurant I would like to visit again.

Very good live music. There are “packs” of 3 whiskeys that are very good to try. Very friendly staff. Great atmosphere.

Stopped here for lunch we decided to have a hamburger from those offered on the menu. The chips were a bit anemic, the sandwich was nothing special, the meat was the only "strong" point We then came in the evening to have a drink, when we were placed at a table at the back, no one came to take the order anymore, we left...

The staff was really nice and welcoming, and the love music was great! I'd say it's more of a modern pub than a traditional/ rustic one.

We had lunch and it was pretty good. We were two adults and two children, and at lunchtime, at least, the atmosphere was suitable for children; I assume that in the afternoons the atmosphere becomes more "adult." For a pub, I expected less from the food, but it was good. I didn't like that our table was right next to the bathrooms, but space is limited and they should make the most of it. Everyone who attended us was friendly.

Iconic place and a nice spot to stop and have a beer and a quick bite. A nice one along the square.

Only stopped by for a wee dram. Short measures or what! Supposed to be 25ml but definitely short (free pour not optic) When challenged, we were told they were served in large glasses and was correct. As a publican of many years, I know my measures and this place is scamming!

Stopped here for a quick bite. Ok food and drink, had a burger. They have a mandatory service fee/charge which I dislike on principle and it doesn't really improve one's experience, I think you should be able to choose whether you want to tip. It did say that they charge it on the bottom of the menu, so whether 10 percent is worth it, you be the judge. I would suggest to people that they actually ask if there is a mandatory service fee, it may be good to get away from the most touristy places for food.

Visited on a Saturday night with a group of 6 friends. Great atmosphere & excellent service from behind the bar. The live music was fantastic- varied & really got the audience involved singing along. Decent beer as well!

Wandered in here looking for a coffee on a cold morning and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Excellent hot coffee by Iona who is an experienced barista and great chat with Ben.

Fantastic food, fantastic staff (especially Rosie) All round a great place to be for a casual night out. Has quizzes and karaoke on some days, definitely a go to for a fun time

Just a rude place in one of the nicest spot in the old city. Poor service, unfriendly staff, sticky tables and no attention at all. There are better options out there.

We asked for a Coke, we were served a Pepsimax (without sugar) and without bubbles which I couldn't finish. My husband had a rum and coke also with a pepsimax, suffice to say that it was a waste of rum. We waited 10 minutes to be served even though they were not overwhelmed. The toilets are really dirty. We paid around £13 or around €16 We wanted to eat there but it turned us cold. Fortunately the waitress was cordial.

Stopped off to have some brunch this morning, Devyn served me some eggs royal and a bloody Mary and I was brand new again. Lovely atmosphere definitely worth a return.

The fat manager is a blatant thief. Be very attentive paying. He will steal your cash. So many great options nearby you should give Maggie Dickson a hard pass.

Great long thin pub - quite quiet/not too many people compared to other pubs- good live guitar and singer.

Amazing pub, had a smashing fish and chips gobbled it all up! great to try proper British cuisine in a historical little spot, wouldn't find anything's like this back home in Utah. Met a Scottish local working behind the bar Euan Lee, he said deep fried pizza should be my next food to test... sounds daunting aha. Wonderful service from him, he even did a little Scottish Jig to show me how the locals do it around here! will try to be back before the end of my trip. 10/10.

Poor food, poor service and overcharged on the final bill. Alright for drinks but absolutely do not sit down for food.

Pretty good food, nice atmosphere and location, but I don't know why I paid so much. I don't know if anything extra was added to the bill, but almost £25 for a veggie burger and one beer is definitely too much!

A great pub on this large tourist square that is Grassmarket. Good beer, relatively varied food menu. We come out without thirst or hunger. Special mention for the fish'n'chips of the day!

We really enjoyed our visit to this pub the staff were friendly and welcoming especially the new manager. It had a great atmosphere and is steeped in history. We had a traditional meal of. Haggis neeps and tatties. With excellent local beer and whiskey. Joined in with a quiz and had a great evening’s entertainment.

Maggie’s is amazing! They just opened a few days ago under new ownership and you wouldn’t know! Service was incredible. They were so relaxed and welcoming and kind! 10/10 would come back again!

We came in for a last drink of the night, and it was great. Service , atmosphere, everything! The music was out of this world. I need to find out the man’s name that was singing he had such an amazing voice! It was may 3rd 2024

The most disgusting salad in the world. Ordered halloumi five bean salad. The halloumi is not fried. The beans are soggy and only got three kinds of beans and corn. Corn is not a bean. Two large lettuce leaves at the bottom. No seasoning or anything. The pasta dish was yesterday's and the girls working were incredibly rude. Will not set foot here ever again.

We are between friends the 21 of march, in the night, to drink a scottish whisky The staff was very friendly and advise to us a very nice whisky , from Edinburgh , smoky, sweet and light yellow if i'm truly remember 😁 It was a very beautiful moment . But I can't remember the name of this whisky , If the staff read this comment , can you , please, tell me , the name of this whisky to find a bottle. Emilie

Qmazing pub 1 of the oldest in edinburgh

Our recent visit to Maggie Dickinson pub in Edinburgh was a complete letdown. The food, to put it bluntly, was a disaster for us. We had the impression as if each dish would have been dunked in a vat of oil, leaving them swimming in a greasy mess. Not only that, but for our taste, everything arrived at our table stone cold, as if it had been forgotten in the back corner of the kitchen. It was a dining experience we would rather forget, and one we wouldn't wish upon anyone else. We would suggest that you save yourself the same disappointment than us and find another spot to dine in Edinburgh. I know that we will receive and apology saying that they will pass on the message to the kitchen as if the kitchen was an alien independent entity. So a completely useless excuse which they use for all complaints. PS . It is sad to see that efforts are invested in fantasize about events that did not happen. As you can see we have rated the service highly, but the meal was really disgusting for us. Good luck to all those going there in the future.

Our recent visit to Maggie Dickinson pub in Edinburgh left much to be desired. The food was simply unacceptable. Each dish was drowning in grease, as if it had been soaked in an oil vat. To make matters worse, everything arrived cold, as if forgotten in the depths of the kitchen. On top it was ridiculously expensive.It was a dining experience we'd rather forget and certainly not one we'd recommend. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a meal in Edinburgh. I fully expect the typical apology and empty promises from the management, which seem to be their go-to response for all complaints. Despite our positive rating for the service, the meal was undeniably disgusting. Best of luck to those considering dining there in the future.

During my visit to Edinburgh, I had the pleasure of spending St Patrick's evening at Maggie Dicksons pub, and the experience was simply memorable. St. Patrick's Day in this historic venue is an experience that transcends all expectations, especially for us Italians, accustomed to a different way of celebrating. The atmosphere was electric, with all guests completely immersed in the moment - singing their hearts out along with the live singer, toasting with plenty of beer and enjoying each other's company. The thing that struck me most was the total absence of cell phones; no one was distracted posting on social media, everyone was there to truly experience the party and socialise, a true return to the essence of fun. The venue itself is a jewel: spacious and welcoming, despite the large influx of people. It offers a vast selection of beers, including the ever-present Guinness, perfect for the occasion. The toilets also deserve a mention for their comfort and cleanliness, despite the evening being exceptionally busy. Another pleasant surprise was the broadcast of the football matches, that evening in particular Inter vs Napoli, which added a touch of familiarity in such a festive context. I highly recommend Maggie Dicksons to anyone looking for an authentic and immersive experience in the heart of Edinburgh. It's more than just a pub; it is a place where the local culture is expressed at its best, allowing anyone to feel part of a festive and welcoming community.

Early evening visit so just had snacks and drinks. They have Guinness. Amazing plate of nachos. Able to sit outside and watch the world go by in the historic Grassmarket. A pleasant experience.

Heard Maggie story on Wierd Darkness podcast and on our witch tour. Had to pop in. Lovely bar and facilities. I would come back again. Maggie story is very interesting 🤔

Come and enjoy this light and airy pub for its history and friendly staff but don't bother with food. The waitress did not mention that the tomato soup was ridiculously spicy, the cheese board was served without grapes and only 4 oatcakes (though they did bring more when I asked and replace the inedible soup for chips), the whisky sauce with the haggis fries was like whisky mixed with milk.
