Great food friendly staff all round a great place to eat, especially breakfast, which we had on two consecutive days of being in Edinburgh I would recommend this lovely little cafe to anyone who is visiting Edinburgh.

Went with my two kids for lunch, waited 30mins after ordering then got up to leave when they ran after us saying we were the next order then once inside told would be another 15mins. Went down the street and was told 6min wait, served within 10mins, much better experience in that cafe. Never again will we go to Cafe Keno

We never had the chance to comment on the food..The service after we received the coffees was so bad we left.. Having spoken to the management before we left , we received a shrug of his shoulders.. That's class.

On our last night in Edinburgh we decided to splash out and get an Angus steak which was on Cafe Keno’s menu. The “steak” was a piece of very dry wafer thin tough “meat” which was more like a piece of stale hard leather. One of our party could not even cut it with a steak knife, so it was just left on the plate as it was inedible. It was one of the most expensive items on the menu so we thought we would get something special. How wrong we were. The description on the menu was nothing like we actually got. When I complained about the inedible s steak, the worker there just shrugged his shoulders and thrust the card machine to me .. he could not have cared less, all he was interested in was getting payment. When I said to him we did not get what we were paying for, another shrug. I could not believe the attitude.. most places will apologise and give you a discount, but not here. Very arrogant. First place I have ever been to where steak was on the menu they did not even offer any sauces. If I could have given them a zero rating, I would have done so.

Terrible cafe, location is great but the service and food is below average. Owners are arrogant and do not care about service whatsoever

Stopped off for the Scottish breakfast. It was honestly amazing. Think it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. Freshly cooked. Lovely produce, very impressive

Visited here on New Year’s Day for brunch. Fab friendly service, order cooked fresh and reasonable price. Plenty to choose from.

This café is situated more or less in the middle of the Royal Mile. The menu looked good, but when the food arrived (we ordered burgers), we were a little dissapointed by the quality of the food. We were looking forward to some prime highland beef, but the burgers seemed like they had been frozen and then cooked and it was certainly not premium meat. Low value for the price charged.

Horrible wee place, disgusting, rude staff. Avoid at all costs. I’m surprised this place is still open. Do not go here!!!!

Very kind owner and workers. They cook nice breakfast and also soup as well. Nice streetview to storytelling house on the main street.

Four of us decided to have an evening meal here. Place was empty when arrived (should have walked out then). Drinks order was incorrect and the waitress struggled to understand us when we were ordering. One of our party ordered lasagna but was told it wasn’t available, we should have been told this when seated. Egg and cheese bagel arrived with cream cheese and a fried egg, salad was brown at the edges and nacho crisps were slightly stale. The cheese burger ordered had grated Red Leicester type cheese which never melted! The fish and chips were clearly processed, the cook from frozen type, not fresh and the chicken wrap did not look appetising at all. Not one of our party finished their meal and although waitress asked us if everything was ok when we went to pay, and was told no, she still wanted to charge £47! We complained and tried to explain what was wrong and asked for managers details, she said manager away and if we did not pay then she did not get wages. Tried to explain further but got shouted at by her, told we were on CCTV and she was reluctant to accept the £25 were offered. As leaving she was shouting at us that we were crazy!!! DO NOT eat here. There are so many amazing places to try, this is not worth anyones time or money.

I was walking down the Royal Mile one evening near 7pm and I noticed this place across the street, very nice looking place,and all the tables and chairs and menus were outside.I walked across and I had a look at the menu,and I noticed a sign on the window saying "open 7am till late".I walked inside to place an order,there were two people chatting at the counter and the young man behind the counter said to me "sorry, we're closed". Again......chairs,tables and menus still outside,door wide open to walk in, lights on, nothing put away inside and still at least one person being served at the counter,and yet I'm told it's closed. I stopped by with my family to have a quick coffees today and the customer service from one member of the staff was the very worst I ever in my live had. I am pretnant and I was super tired and I needed to have a quick rest and a bit of energy. 10 minutes after we ordered the coffees we were quicked out because it was the closing time (fair enough, they closed at 7pm and it was 7.03pm) but with the worst manners ever. Apparently I was resting too confortable in the chair and that wasn't allowed ???? (I closed my eyes for 2 minutes probably) We all were shocked by this moment. Disgusting

We came across the place for lunch on a wander, it was about 13:30 and the place was quite quiet, it looked basic and cheap and the price was indeed very reasonable. The food was absolutely lovely, we had four meals between us, the kids portions were big and the haggis and pizza was brilliant. Would recommend

Stumbled across this cafe whilst looking for somewhere to have breakfast. The full English and American breakfast were ordered and we both thoroughly enjoyed them! Friendly, welcoming staff & would definitely go back next time I’m in Edinburgh! 10/10! 🎉

We have been there twice so far. We like the atmosphere. The staff is friendly, the local is clean and the foods and drinks are just tasty. The extra value of the local are their guests. Both times we have met Scottish people - I assume they were the regular guests - who were friendly and we had got nice small talks with them. For my family it is a great place to pop in and spend time eating lunch. What is super important - our 8 years old daughter is a bit picky about food but she has never complained about the food from Cafe Keno.

We popped in to grab some quick takeaway coffee/brunch and were attracted by the lovely-looking cakes while we were there as well so got a couple of those to go as well. We had a couple of bagels which were yummy and the cakes were really good. Staff were friendly. Disappointed to read the comments in an earlier review regarding handling of vegetarian food though - hope that is not still the case!

Only had a hot chocolate here. It just tasted of sugar and was quite unpleasant. There was music in the background which was a bit distracting. Maybe the food is better?

Después de unos días de costosas decepciones para el desayuno, nos topamos con este hermoso lugar.Personal muy amable que se ocupó de todas nuestras necesidades.Nada especial, solo un desayuno bueno, limpio y abundante a un precio decente.Ojalá hubiéramos descubierto esta pequeña joya desde el primer día.Definitivamente vale la pena una visita y volveremos.

¡Ojalá pudiera dar una calificación de cero!Fuimos a desayunar cuando estaba bastante ocupado. Nos sentamos adentro ya que no había espacio afuera. Noté que solo había una plancha lisa en la que el cocinero estaba friendo el tocino, los huevos y los tomates. Le pregunté a la persona de la caja si separaban las comidas vegetarianas de las carnes (soy vegetariana). la respuesta de la persona fueron los huevos y la otra comida vegetariana se cocinó junto con el tocino y otras carnes en la misma parrilla al mismo tiempo y se plateó por separado. Le dije a la persona detrás de la caja que no era vegetariana si los jugos del tocino están en la comida vegetariana, a lo que se encogió de hombros. No nos molestamos en comer aquí ya que no hay garantía de comida vegetariana y el propietario no parecía preocupado por esto.

Came here two days running for breakfast. Please take, friendly owner obeying personal COVID restrictions to the letter. Breakfast was very tasty and well cooked. Food arrived quickly, nothing to complain about.

There is a dearth of places open for breakfast at 7am. This is one that was open. The food, which was a veggie breakfast was good and without one of the veggie sausages which are usually limp and tasteless..so that was a plus. Coffee was fine. Price OK given this is the Royal.Mile. This isn't earth shattering cruising but tasty grub. The owner was polite friendly.

Queríamos probar el estómago de oveja que se sirve prácticamente en todos lados y optamos por este café porque nos parecía un poco más barato, muy a la mano y con varias opciones. Elegimos el desayuno escocés que trae de todo y es una excelente opción para compartir ya que es muy abundante. Include trae el estomago de oveja que es muy rico. Además pedimos dos platos más, no lo hagan! Es mucha comida. Sale rápido, en todo caso pidan después si todavía tienen hambre. El baño estaba impecable y la atención fue amable.

My friend and I popped in for coffee and cake after a visit to the Museum of Childhood. DELICIOUS array of freshly baked cakes, tray bakes and biscuits at regular prices; airy, clean, congenial atmosphere, and very friendly. We'll definitely return.

Nine of us in the family and we just turned up on spec for brunch. We went on to have a fantastic brunch. The service was superb. The staff friendly and professional. Great breakfast choices on the menu that suited all our tastes. Between us we had a varied selection from the menu and every single one of our party was very happy. Considering we were such a large party all requesting different items ; we were served quickly with food coming out the kitchen freshly made and piping hot. The coffee was amazing too. Thank you so much to the staff for their friendly and professional services. I can highly recommend the Cafe Keno ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This cafe, offered good food at a reasonable price. We had brunch here on the last day, which was good. Although if your looking for something a little more refined, this may not be the place. It does what it says on the tin.

We popped in here on a rainy day for some lunch after some shopping in Edinburgh. We received a warm welcome from the staff, food was lovely (I recommend the haggis) and prices were reasonable. Great service, great food! We will definitely be back.

Went here for breakfast and the food wasn’t great, average at best. Prices were quite bad considering the size of the portions, we ordered the standard breakfast which was supposed to come with toast, we literally received one piece each, the breakfast itself was also really small and did not even fill me. There are plenty of better places to go in Edinburgh that are actually worth the price so don’t think I’ll ever be back here.

Cafe Keno is one of the best restaurant in Edinburgh you should visit it when you come to Edinburgh, location in Centre of the Royal mile and in front of John Knox house. They have different types of breakfast as well as more than 120 options in the menu. I had Scottish breakfast it was great choices and apple pie with Irish Coffee . Even they were very busy the staff were very welcoming and professional

On a New Year’s Day myself and some friends went out to have a breakfast. Sat down- table was incredibly small for a group of 4 people, we ordered 3 traditional teas and Americano coffee. When my friend asked for a poached egg he was told they don’t do poached eggs- only fried or scrambled .... we asked if they maybe make an exception - but it was too much to ask. Then I tried ordering English breakfast and was welcomed with an incredible stare fromThe waitress to be told it’s not English breakfast but British! Which was not pleasant at all!! Finally our tea arrived in a tea pot with 3 coups and no coffee and no milk. Waited patiently for about 15 min when we decided to ask for a milk to be rudely told by a waiter/ owner? “ did you ask for milk?!?!” That was enough service was so poor we decided we did not wish to eat here. Made the owner aware that we would like to cancel our order as we are not happy about how we are being spoken to and the service only to be chased outside and yelled at some more !!!! RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL!!!

I have never had such a terrible experience in my life that I could perceive this to be a racist experience. Not only was the order late (The order which should have been done in 10 minutes, took 25 minutes to arrive after 3 reminders), the staff were pretty much ignoring me throughout the experience. No apologies for lateness, in fact when I pointed out that the food took 25 minutes from the time I ordered (ie from my receipt), the server gave me the arrogant look. On another hand, the servers were unbelievably polite with other "non-Chinese customers" and would not care less to say thanks repeatedly when they were leaving or to ask them of their experience. I definitely did not expect a stellar service from this small bistro, but at least some decency in the customer service regardless of the profile. I only visited the place because of the great reviews, but obviously I regretted my decision from the moment I had been treated this way. Oh, they definitely did not ask me "how was my food today?". Thank you for the experience, Cafe Keno!

Entramos de casualidad y por la insistencia del niño por los colores del bar. No tiene pinta de restaurante, quizá parece más una cafetería para merendar, pero realmente me sorprendio el buen trato en la comida. La carta en principio no llena a la vista, pero pedí unos macarrones al pesto que la verdad quedaron bastante bien al paladar. Acompañamos de un plato combinado que le meten hummus y unas bolas turcas bastante buenas. Para niños tienen menú infantil que estaba bastante aceptable para la zona. Tenían también buenos postres y galletas, más con aire de postres àrabes-turcos.

Ottimo per la posizione strategica sul Royal mile, va bene per una sosta senza troppe pretese. Abbiamo mangiato un ottimo haddock (sorta di merluzzo) con patate nella sua tipica panatura locale. Tutto digeribile, parola di uno con steatosi. Prezzo un po' alto per gli standard italiani, ma nella media del posto.

What a lovely little cafe. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. My husband and I both had a Scottish breakfast that was fresh and beautifully cooked. They provide a very full menu with lots of different types of food to choose from.

Finally found halal cafe with delicious meals and hospitable personnel - absolutely recommend jacket potato with tuna mayo! Those who are looking for halal food - that’s your place to visit! Prices are moderate, too) Met a couple of Scottish people, this is a really place to come with your friends or lovey ones)

Food was GOOD and sure will come back to eat again. unfortunately, the service was excellent especially by a guy who is giving the place more value. he was very welcoming and friendly talk. we were surprised that he has a high education level.

Estábamos explorando High Street cuando nos encontramos con Cafe Keno. Una merienda rápida sonaba como una buena idea. Pedí el muffin de chocolate que estaba muy bueno. La taza de café ciertamente no era el espresso que pedí. Lo que me sirvieron fue una taza de café horriblemente amarga.

La ubicación era útil cuando les mostraba a algunos amigos los lugares de interés, pero primero pensé que algo era extraño cuando la persona que nos recibió apenas pudo tomar nuestro pedido, a pesar de que señalamos los elementos del menú para facilitarlo. Just popped in for a cup of tea and cake, very welcoming staff and tea and cake very good. Looking at the menu it's a bit expensive but with the place being super clean having attentive staff it is worth a visit. Thank you

We stopped in for a late afternoon meal as the menu covered a wide range of options which meant everyone in our party could find something to their liking. We had the Mediterranean plate, a pizza, a salad, a burger, and a panini. The salad didn’t have much salad so if you are looking for greens don’t order it. The Mediterranean plate had falafels that were more like hush puppies than real falafels. Everything else was as billed. On the bright side the service was friendly and the meal relatively inexpensive.

Went here for a quick takeout wrap. It was just ok, nothing special. The chicken tasted processed, the sauce was bottled, and there were no veggies in it.

We were there recently and they have amazing food and very good service, everyone is very friendly even though it was very busy the service was excelleny and İ had the best fish and chips ever. Would defenitely comeback.

Family of four that included two teens. We had spaghetti, pizza, other pasta and chicken sandwich. All of us were happy with our choices. I did not order pizza, but had some nevertheless, and it was delicious. My spaghetti was as well. Would definitely return.

We had lunches here on 2 days during our stay in Edinburgh for the Fringe. I had jacket potatoes on both days, although the chicken mayo filling was not as nice as the tuna mayo and I think it was maybe not the best chicken! My husband ate steak pie and chips on both visits and said it was delicious! Very good service and friendly staff and huge menu choice. Several tables outside the cafe on the Royal Mile right in the centre of the action so plenty of opportunity to 'people watch' while you eat. Good prices too.

I just love this place so friendly relaxing superb food and drinks the staff are so polite and friendly even though the busy month off August. Would recommend to anyone. This is a treasure off a place. Can't wait to return.

On our first visit to Edinburgh we came across this cafe.we frequented this cafe morning and night the food was delicious and the service was excellent.

£14.30 for a spag bolonagise and bottle of sprite to take away. Food average at best. Service nice and friendly. Price terrible.

Stopped off on the way back from the whiskey experience for light bite and coffee. Very friendly staff were knowledgeable when I asked about vegan options so was confident in ordering a falafel and hummus wrap along with a Java coffee with soya milk. Family party included Nigel celebrating his 70th birthday who was treated to a lit candle on whipped cream with his blueberry muffin and a ‘happy birthday’ singalong from the staff!

Cute little cafe we just happened to stumble upon in our travels. We were walking around and decided to stop in to start our day. Coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and fruit scones hit the spot!

Stopped here for a quick coffee before going into the Scottish Storytelling Centre opposite the cafe. The menu looks like stereotypical British/Scottish fare, though I only asked for a Latte to go, which came to 2.90, which I thought was above average price for a takeaway cup. The coffee was fine, same as one from Pret or any other chain, just costs more.

Husband, as usual wanted fish and chips but the breading is much different than traditional breading. I opted for a Scottish pie of chicken and mushroom.

Came into this café to get out of the rain, as it looked nice was the outside. I couldn't understand the theme of the café the whole time I was there, but the staff were nice and friendly. We ordered 2 chicken burgers, which came with a side salad and chips and 2 diet cokes. The food came to nearly £30, which I wouldn't have minded if the food was amazing, but unfortunately it was basic and boring. The chicken burger consisted of a fried chicken piece on a plain bun. We had to assemble are own burger by asking for sauce and putting salad on it ourselves, it just seems overpriced for food I could get for half the price back home. In fact, we have a local takeaway that does a 2 chicken burger meal deal that comes with chips, garlic bread, sauce and 2 bottles of drink for £12. The burgers taste the exact same. When you're paying £10 for one burger, you'd expect it to be better. I think this place is targeted at the tourists going past, who don't check the reviews - like us. It is the kind of place that serves okay food, but is the kind of place you wouldn't go again. I wish I had something better to say, as everywhere else we went in Edinburgh was amazing, this one we regret.

Visited here twice during a rugby weekend as we were staying around the corner. It’s only small, but the breakfast was BIG! Full Scottish and you cannot go wrong the place was packed. The staff were lovely and the menu was good. Plenty of choice and prices were reasonable. What more do you want! Clean and fast service. I highly recommend it as a great start to your day.

What a pleasure to listen to my man, Bob Dylan, as I wolfed back a pretty good Scottish Breakfast. Coffee was good and the Tattie was excellent. My only minor gripes was that there was no butter with the toast and the link sausage wasn't great. Good Haggis though and good service.

We stopped here for breakfast before climbing Arthur’s Seat. Our first choice of breakfast restaurant was fully booked so we came here and we were very glad we did. The food was good and the friendly welcome and service was outstanding. The staff were really lovely and we would certainly visit again.

This is the best for a nice meal and great service.. The couple that owns Cafe Keno will bend over backwards to please you. You will not be disappointed!!!! Have a slice of Victoria cake.

Un poco generoso con la reseña de una estrella, lamentablemente no puedo calificarlo menos. La comida es peor que 7/11 de calidad por diez veces más el dinero. Más de 10 libras por una "hamburguesa" que consistía en una empanada congelada recalentada bruta, un pedazo de queso y lo que se suponía que era tocino, pero realmente no se parecía en nada al tocino. No había ketchup, no mayo, y la ensalada estaba al lado, ni siquiera dentro de la hamburguesa. Además, la pizza es 100% una pizza congelada con queso extra encima. Hazte un favor y come algo en McDonald's.

This place we passed several times each time smelled so delicious that we decided to go there. The restaurant looks like a family place which has its own charm. We ordered panini, one of chorizo and the other with grilled vegetables and the third with tuna. I've eaten panini many times but in this place the dish is on a higher level. The service is very nice and the service is very fast. I recommend this place

Ci siamo fermati in questo posto per un pranzo veloce, eravamo in quattro, una pizza sotto la media, di quelle congelate e anche alte, pessimo sapore, una zuppa dentro una tazza di latte dal sapore pessimo, un Royal Burger discreto e una ciabatta con pessimo prosciutto cotto. Da evitare assolutamente, se avete tempo cercate altro.

Si hay que parar se para, pero si no, mejor pero sitio. Lo único bueno la cámara, muy simpática y tan eficiente como la dejaba ser el cocinero, por llamarle algo, ya que atenta contra la profesión, un consejo, pedid solo que podáis ver en la vitrina, las tartas excepcionales, seguro son de una buena pastelería, si alguien tiene interés en aprender magia que pida el filete de Angus, el cocinero tiene una varita y lo convierte en suela de zapato en un abra cadabra(hay que ser malo para hacer inmasticable un buen filete...) Aún así he tenido suerte, había pedido salmón, que tras urgar en lo más hondo del congelador, el hechicero ha localizado; gracias a Dios he cambiado de opción, en fin está bien para bebidas calientes y tartas, para el resto olvidaros, ahh a todo esto carísimo calidad-precio

Sat on the outside tables while having lunch, a lovely place to watch the world go by and enjoy some nice food. My Sister and I both had a panini, she had a cup of tea and I had a fizzy drink, the food is simple but was served hot and delicious. The staff were very helpful and happy to help us. I would definitely recommend.

Popped in here for breakfast before heading up to the castle. Perfect location on the royal mile. Lovely little cafe with great service and great range of food. We really enjoyed our breakfasts and would go here again.

Popped into this little cafe yesterday afternoon for a quick burger and a drink to take away. The tables weren’t all full but the staff seemed to be super-busy and harassed.

We stopped doing of for a late lunch and the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The food is reasonably priced and was really nice. Good portion size. We will definitely go again. They serve Scottish and English breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches, pies, jacket potatoes amongst many many other things. I had a Scottish breakfast and was bursting at the seams

I came here during Edinburgh fringe, both for coffee and another time for a beer. I was made really welcome by the super staff and had a lovely view of some street theatre and enjoyed a fantastic violinist. The staff here and it’s position are what makes it so special but the coffee is great too.

This cafe is conveniently located along the Royal Mile and is perfect to sit down and relax after a day of walking up steep hills. The server we had was nice and helpful. The food was pretty good and the prices were as well.

It’s good to know some things don’t change and this cafe is one of them. We came seven years ago impressed then and still impressed. Very professional, helpful and friendly staff. Food 😋 delicious.

En realidad fuimos allí 2 noches seguidas, y disfrutamos de una botella de vino y el servicio encantador, mientras ve la concurrida escena de la calle de Edimburgo pasar. 10/10

Cafe Keno advertises traditional pub/British food. It is fast food, with basic service, and I thought was slightly expensive in comparison to other bakery or cafe food near by.

The place was packed at lunch time and there wasn't much seating available even though its a small place overall. Got the mince meat pie which was pretty good, the fries were unnecessary. Service was slightly on the slow side. Didn't try anything else.

Excellent for a decent, quick & cheap meal any time of the day. Serves breakfast all day! We ate there a few times during our stay on Royal Mile, both for breakfasts & dinner.

Th staff are friendly, courteous, polite. And they serve the food to you quickly. The food is also excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

Después de visitar este café en hace 5 años decidimos volver. No nos decepcionado. la comida y el servicio es excelente. Gran variedad de comidas. Nos dieron el desayuno estándar fueron excelentes muy sabroso. Las chicas son muy agradables y serviciales. No se pierda una visita a Edimburgo, excelente ubicación.

Primero lo bueno.Una de las camareras era muy amable.Pedi un helado,estaba rico y me lo sirvieron rápido.

Se trata de un pequeño Barcito, donde podes comer a buen precio y rico Subiendo la Hight Street, al volver del Palacio de Holyroodhouse lo encontramos, y como tenia pastas alli fuimos. Pedimos Macarrone a la Bolognesa (9,95 libras) y al Pesto (8,65 libras) una Stella Artois pequeña (3,45 libras) y un jugo (2,60 libras) Total 24,65 libras. Muuuy rico, la cantidad era suficiente y la atencion muy amable y esmerada... Y tenia queso rallado la comida! Lo disfrutamos!!

cafe keno situated on the royal mile in Edinburgh city centre is just next to the museum of childhood and over the road is john knoxes house they serve a decent plate of food and nice cold beers and considering the location good prices. my beer was a bottle of Budweiser and cost £3.50 GBP very good price and lots of people coming and going like I said good for people watching.
