Went in for a couple of beers and an early lunch. A few steps from Princes Street behind Apple shop, this is a small old fashioned looking pub with a small first floor restaurant and is worth trying. Our food was good, fairly priced and the service was very good. Food is a touch above pub grub and is served in the bar as well as in the restaurant. If looking to book, it is not possible to book a table for later the same day. That aside a place that will be revisited.

Called in for a quick pint after a long day. Called last orders at 10:30. Ordered a couple of pints. At 11:05 the barmaid came over to our table and said they were closed and was going to clear the table, which she proceeded to do taking two full pints from me and my friend. Nice pub, but that's shocking service when 10-15 minutes drinking up time would have been appreciated. Plenty of options locally...

Visited twice for dinner. The meals were on two levels and I had steak pie once and haggis once and they were both delicious. The elegant interior design of the building, reminiscent of a Victorian pub, is as beautiful as the food, so be sure to stop by when you visit Calton Hill. The waiters are also friendly and humorous. As a token of my gratitude, I naturally felt like giving a tip, although it wasn't a lot of money. I will definitely go here again next time I'm in Edinburgh.

We always visit when we are in Edinburgh. Because of an amusing incident on our first visit. There was a stag party in. The groom had on a bridesmaids dress. An elderly lady in the restroom commented on how drunk the bridesmaid in the wedding party was. Her daughter creased up. It is a nice friendly boozer. Unfortunately my husband has to drink cider. He doesn't do real ale. The Tennants is good. Worth a visit. Haven't had food but have seen plenty going upstairs to eat.

Good not up to usual standards today either - chips very hard (not totally cooked). An experience to forget!!

10 out of 10, would recommend! We were immediately greeted with the wonderful, authentic pub experience, and managed to catch a table in the dining area upstairs - which was small but felt like home in a way. Our server was at the top of his game, and we were treated right despite coming in without a reservation and how busy the place was. The food was out of the world, and I consider it God's gift that we were denied entrance to another place nearby (I shall not name it, but it left a sour taste, especially since I had been on my feet since morning because of a trip that day). All in all, the perfect place to grab a drink, or eat, and generally hang out. It's like the whole pub is a hug that envelops you warmly.

Very strange experience.... First of all, the employees in shirts and suits give the impression that you are not dealing with a simple bar. Accordingly, I sat down first and wasn't served for 30 minutes... You have to get up and order at the bar... Ok, just a misunderstanding. Then I ordered the salmon with beans and tomato salad, plus extra fries. Paid directly at the bar, plus a beer. Food came 30 minutes later, without fries. After another twenty minutes (salmon eaten by now) I asked for the fries.... I'm not sure if they forgot or what else was going on... But then the fries came just 2 minutes later...0815 , a bit flimsy. So I wasn't particularly impressed with the food, the beans were relatively bitter or there was something I didn't like about them... But above all, unfortunately, I never really felt valued as a guest.... It's a shame

My wife and I recently did a mini pub crawl through Edinburgh in the area we stayed (Pilrig St and Leith Walk), and we started here at The Guilford Arms. It was the best of three pubs we hit that evening. Walking through the corner front doors, you are immediately taken by the Victorian charm of the pub; the carpeted floor, ornate ceiling, wall decor, as well as the bar itself. I had a cask-conditioned pint of Night Porter (yum!), my wife had a pint of a tasty draught cider, and we split an order of chili nachos. The staff, dressed in ties, were top professionals, helpful and friendly. We briefly chatted up a few locals and the place, even on a Monday evening, was buzzing with happy folks enjoying this terrific Edinburgh pub. Near St. Andrew's Square and Waverley Station - somewhat hidden in a back alley area - I would totally recommend this pub for anyone seeking a real Victorian gem in the city.

Drinks fine, food was ok but service was dreadfully slow - another table who ordered after us got their food about 15 minutes before us. I absolutely do not recommend getting haggis here - the “whisky” sauce just tastes like a a Bisto gravy (hence why it looks and tastes the same as the gravy on my bangers and mash) and they have the nerve to charge an extra £1.50 for it. Raised this with the staff and they insisted that it is their whisky sauce - they’re either brainwashed or the chefs are paid peanuts.

Very disappointed by the food in this pub. This was our second visit to the Guildford. Our first visit was very positive and the food was excellent, delivered in a timely fashion and piping hot in the bar area. On our latest visit the wait for food was excessive people who ordered after us were served before us. When our food arrived the fish was excellent but the chips were quite cool but left under the fish. They were also not as fresh as they should have been. We spoke to the waiter about the delay in the food delivery and were told that it was a new chef. Any trained chef can walk into any kitchen and cope with service demands. The bar area in the restaurant could also do with a good tidy up. I don't think we will return.
