Roots is a little oasis in the heart of town. We’ve lived locally for a long time and visit on a weekly basis. It’s easily our favourite cafe in Chesham. If you want delicious, freshly made and reasonably priced food, friendly staff and great coffee and cake this is the place for you. Plus, If you’re a bit of a house plant addict like me, you’ll find it hard not to walk out with a plant every time. Our trips to Roots are the highlight of our week - especially in these strange times.

Terrible and overpriced place. Rude and dismissive owner. Bettering to stay away and choose one of the wonderful cafes in the area.

Since Covid-19 I had to find places in Chesham to work. Chesham is a lovely town but now renowned for the best hospitality for CEO and business people with our computers and long hours! But Root is very welcoming. They have delicious coffee and the best cakes in town. It can be a little noisy with families and toddlers, but if you don’t mind sound of life, Root is great!!

I am stunned that someone could have a bad experience here. Upon arrival, there is hand sanitizer to use, the staff is behind a plastic screen and you have to order your food at the counter, which minimises staff/customer interaction/contamination. Serving staffs wear masks and the waiter was happy to get us extra drinks so that we didn't have to go back up to the counter again. Despite what could be quite a sterile place at this moment in time, they have succeeded in making the cafe look and feel both sanitary and welcoming. There are plants on one shelf to sell and the back dining area is as light and airy as it is to sit out in the sunshine. The staff are friendly and helpful and we didn't have to wait long for our food. These factors however, are not the highlights of this cafe. The menu looks simple but the food is obviously prepared with passion and care. I had a mushroom and spinach burrito with wild garlic: such a simple combination, but deliciously done. I had food envy when my boyfriend's food came out (Buddha bowl), and even more so when I tasted it. We are hoping to move to the area and would like to make this cafe a weekly treat, so please support this business in these trying times.

This was my second visit to the cafe, about a year apart. I stayed away from this place after being made to feel unwelcome after my first visit, however it was a hot day and I fancied an iced latte so I thought I would give it another go. Once again I was greeted by a member of staff with a cold glare and a real “ why are you here” kind of attitude. They were very unhelpful when asking about vegan options and really did their best to make me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed, to the point where I was ready just to walk out. The staff at roots really need to take a course in customer service

We stopped by after our cycling ride and what a surprise! Staff was super lovely and friendly. We had Buddha bowls take away, fresh, healthy and very tasty! Loved the black coffee too! A must in Chesham!

My second visit to Roots and it was just as good as the first, delicious sandwiches and coffee, such a nice little chilled cafe, something quite different to the usual run of the mill 'full English' cafes dotted about. Well worth a visit.

I absolutely adore the two granola bowls - I can't pick a favourite. But then I also love the avocado, feta, pomegranate and sweet chilli sauce and mushroom and truffle oil breakfasts on sourdough too!

We popped in here for lunch one Saturday. The coffee was excellent and the food reasonably priced. I enjoyed a cheese and ham sour dough sandwich as they had run out of baguettes. Ham was fantastic, a bit stingy on the cheese. The service was very slow but the Waiter was very apologetic.

I popped in for the first time and what I experienced was awful and I will never return. The way a member of staff spoke and treated an elderly lady was appalling. The member of staff spoke so rudely to this poor lady I was totally shocked, she then proceeded to go out the back to which the manager then appeared and slammed this ladies Money back at her and asked her to leave the shopThis poor lady explained all she wanted was her sandwich to now be taken away as they had taken too long to make it and she didn’t have time to wait. She was not rude at all and in fact seemed very sweet. the manager just shouted for her to leave The lady looked so upset and embarrassed. I was horrified. The lady was not rude one bit and I feel was mistreatedShame on that member of staff and shame on the manager for treating an elderly lady so disrespectfullyI will never return and if anyone wants good service then this is not the place to go How dare they treat an elderly lady so terribly

Two orders of eggs on toast shouldn't be a problem in a restaurant where only two other tables are occupied, and where those tables are having coffee only. It took 25 minutes to be served burnt scrambled egg! However, it was mildly amusing watching the staff through the partly open kitchen door throw multiple egg shells into a bucket by the door while we waited to eat. I sometimes wonder who those eggs were for, because it certainly wasn't any of the seated customers.

I enjoyed my visit to Roots in Chesham high street. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was both delicious and beautifully presented. I had the avocado on sour dough and my daughter had the healthy breakfast bowl. They have a fantastic selection of teas, coffees and cakes and even sold plants! They also had vegan options. I would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again soon.

Saturday Lunchtime, It was not busy, very disorganised, and the service was poor I’m sorry to say that 2 out of 3 the sandwiches we ordered were under filled and dry We left very disappointed especially as there are many other eateries along the high street we could have chosen

5 minutes after entering we were asked to walk our baby up and down outside(in the rain) as she was crying and had "made other customers leave". We were already trying to comfort our baby! I said we would leave and asked for a refund and they tried to still charge me for my drinks! Not family friendly! Not baby friendly! Not friendly! Never again!!!!

Always receive a warm welcome from the team. Great coffee with a good selection of non-dairy options. Serving great food (particularly sandwiches and granola bowl!) for lunch, brunch or light-snack. Decor is bright, modern and trendy and compliments the friendly atmosphere of Roots perfectly! :)

This is the place to go for delicious breakfast, lunch, coffee/cake with your vegetarian/vegan options. Very friendly service and I just love how they do the coffee right every time. Oh and they also have a selection of potted plants you can purchase and take home, if you find your favourite!

This an atmospheric cafe with nice staff. The coffee is very good and they serve decent pastries. The decor is quite trendy and they seemed to be doing fairly well with quite a few customers eating there. The tealights were a nice touch.

From first contact a few weeks before, through to our celebration meal, the Queen's Head exceeded all expectations and truly delivered on their strap line of "nothing is too much trouble". Though we ourselves no longer live locally we needed to find a venue in the area for a celebration dinner for some 25 family and friends, aged from 6 to 76-ish. From the outset the team, headed by Manuela front of house and Sno in the kitchen, were very responsive and flexible to our need for an exclusive dining area for a complete Saturday evening - unique amongst all the other venues we contacted. Having first enjoyed Thai food here some 35 years ago it was great to return and be able to let all our guests make their own advance choices from the extensive menu. The food was served freshly cooked and exquisitely presented on the plate. All of our guests were very complimentary about the ambiance of the upstairs dining area and the quality and quantity of the food. Thank you QH for a very enjoyable celebration dinner.

Nice decor. Booked a table for 8 and needed to order in advance. Food was nice. Staff were friendly and no real problems. It did feel a little disorganised when we visited, but that didn't effect us at all.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Lion of Beaconsfield. As soon as we entered, we were warmly greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. We loved the ambience of the restaurant and had a thoroughly enjoyable time from start to finish. We will be back!
