Have been multiple times since the new ownership, first time was terrible and I notified the owners as they were new at the time but didn’t leave a review. Been great since until today. Me and my partner (vegetarian) went we ordered soup & sandwich combo (Chicken/Bacon Mayo) and Brie & Cranberry Panini with Chips. Food comes and my sandwich was hot Bacon & Chicken with mayo, but was expecting a cold pre-mixed Chicken & Bacon mayo, but I can deal with that. My partner was about to bite his Panini and thought it didn’t look right so decided to open it and found that it was Bacon & Cranberry with no Brie. We took the plate to the young girl that served us and told them, they took the plate but didn’t get a single apology. And eventually got a replacement when I had nearly finished my food. My partner is vegetarian by choice for over 20 years, however some people are due to health reasons and could cause serious issues. I have been in contact with the owners to pre-warn them of the negative review I’ll be leaving and they have offered an apology and refund. I have declined the refund as we did eat the food eventually received correctly. They also lost out on us ordering desserts and more drinks due to what happened and went elsewhere on the way home. The owners have advised they will be speaking to staff and have made a change on the till to highlight it’s a vegetarian meal so hopefully won’t happen again, but the damage has already been done and will put us off visiting for quite sometime.

Very much improved with the new management, first visit after a few years, nice decor inside and good choice on menu. Minus a star though as my coffee mug was dirty, unfortunately already drank half of it until I reached the residue smeared down the inside. Replacement was quickly received though with an apology. And also the veggie breakfast was okay but not the best I've had, asked for poached egg and it came fried, toast arrived a good few minutes after the breakfast came so couldn't just tuck in. Nice seating area outside, may return to try again. Got quite busy and loud after 11am on a Saturday, lots of cyclists.

We live really close to Roots Cafe and it’s fair to say that it had become a bit unloved. The new team have done a fantastic refurbishment (after getting lots of advice and feedback from cycling clubs and customers). It feels fresh, bright and clean and the garden is much improved. Our food (full English and small breakfast) was excellent - high quality ingredients, well cooked. If you’ve been disappointed in the past, it’s definitely worth a visit now.

We visited here today as a party of 6, we called ahead and were really pleased that we were allowed to reserve a table. Close to the entrance as 3 in the party have mobility issues. We were greeted and shown where our table was and explained that once we had made our choices we came to the till to order. There is a great choice of drinks and we all chose a homemade cake from a selection at the counter 3 of the party had scones all 3 said they were beautiful there was plenty of jam and cream. The other 3 cakes were very tasty, fresh and fantastic value for money. The cakes and drinks were sorted by the very efficient and polite staff and the gentlemen that brought them to our table was very polite. We didn't feel rushed and had a lovely mid morning drink and cake. There was a constant flow of customers, ordering drinks and breakfasts as well as cakes but the atmosphere within the cafe was still relaxed, fun and friendly. There are lots of different craft items that can be purchased at the till as well. Will definitely be returning.

I live 5 minutes down the road from this cafe, the food is average but good for the price. However the service I receive with my friend has always been less than best, even despite the fact that we were regular customers. On my most recent visit I was shocked to see that each table was given a number order for their food, making the cafe seem more like an auction with waiters shouting numbers every second. Numbered tables may be better. Our meal came with the wrong food order which is no bother as I understand orders can get wrong. After finishing my lunch, I then went up to the owner and asked where my friends food was, as it isn’t good enough that I’ve finished a meal when my friend hadn’t even seen his. She did not say a thing back to me but went into the kitchen. The OWNER then brought my friends food and said nothing. At this point, I was in shock. As a paying customer you really wouldn’t think it would be up to me to go and ask for an apology and give some advice. As I was leaving, I tried to tell her that she maybe should have been a little bit more apologetic, even if it wasn’t her fault that the order was wrong and especially considering she was the owner. Safe to say I will never be spending another penny in a cafe whose owner has no idea on customer service let alone how to run a cafe. Very disappointed.

Visited today at 3:20 and even though there was an open sign on the door, was told they had closed. They were even serving a customer that entered 20 secs before me. As a result of me leaving a one star review the owner replied that they stop serving hot food at 3pm and in effect stop serving at 3:15 to allow staff to clear away. In effect they actually close at 3:15pm, so why advertise 3:30pm on their website, and leave open on the door. Not good in what should be a customer service orientated organisation.

On what was a particularly grim day with sideways rain and rare breaks in downpour, Roots was like a beacon of light visible from miles away. Having spent a while trying to fumble with frozen fingers to lock my bike to the kindly provided bike racks i made my way inside to be greeted with a huge smile from the lady on the counter, in spite of me dripping on their floor. Within a few minutes of ordering I had a piping hot pot of tea delivered to my table followed very quickly by some impressive poached eggs and bacon which warmed my insides perfectly for the long ride home.

Food was almost perfect, had the full Lancashire breakfast, the sausage and bacon were top quality, my only grumble on the food side is my eggs were not runny. I got fried eggs with the breakfast, they weren't over cooked but the yolks were hard. The mushrooms were delicious, the cherry tomatoes on the vine were a great touch. I say almost perfect, I'm being picky, I would've said something but no one came and asked and no one took my plate before I left, I stayed a while as well. Don't be put off the place is done out really well and everything was clean and tidy, I'm being critical as it was almost perfect. Second time round, had breakfast again, asked for my fried eggs to have runny yolks and they did not disappoint. They don't take cash as I found out today but I had my card so no harm done. I still think the service is lacking slightly but won't stop me going back.

Great food which is freshly cooked to order. We hadn't been here for a number of years and weren't disappointed. We selected different items from the menu, but my husband said that his Sunday roast was one of the best he had tasted. The other meals were all tasty and well cooked too. Drink prices also very reasonable. I don't eat desserts very often but was able to enjoy a cocktail - £6 or 2 for £10. It is such a pity that more people are not visiting this 'hidden gem'
