Lovely meal. Shared a mixed grill starter that was very tasty with 3, not your usual, 'dips'. Lamb biryani with special basmati rice, that was tender and delicious 😋. Everything was just the right level of spice for me. Will be back!

Lovely first visit for a catch up with a friend. Had been dissuaded previously as the menu was much smaller with not so many options. Now there was plenty of choices which were all tempting. We decided to have popadoms to start followed by the mains, a couple of sides and rice and roti. I chose Laal Mass Handi, a spicy Lamb main which delivered a punch and didn’t disappoint, filled with tender lamb and bursting with flavours. Surprisingly, the also served Wadworth 6X, one of my favourite beers which was a bonus for me! Overall, a very enjoyable meal in a pleasant restaurant with very efficient and attentive staff. Hope to return soon.

Went to Roobroo for the first time last Friday after hearing excellent reviews. I have eaten Indian food in many restaurants in UK and also on annual holiday trips to India and can honestly say that I have never had a better meal anywhere. The food was absolutely excellent, high quality ingredients cooked superbly. The service was timely and efficient. Having to wait for everything to be cooked from scratch did lengthen the waiting time after ordering but it was well worth it for such a fine meal. Will be there again soon.

I came in June as a spur-of-the-moment decision on my birthday. What a treat it turned out to be! The menu is simple and the dishes beautifully balanced in terms of both flavouring and presentation. The chef was very engaging and we enjoyed the conversations about sourcing produce; it is clear that he has a deep interest in every aspect of what is offered. We returned tonight to celebrate another family birthday, this time with a meat eater. The lamb bhuna was as delicious as chef Ram promised it would be! We will be back to enjoy another evening soon.

This is a 'Collection' only review. I think this is the 3rd or 4th occasion, getting a curry from Roobroo: Lamb Bhuna, Bhindi Masala (side) and a Pilau rice. Enough to share with my wife who is non dairy. Every time the (welsh) lamb has been excellent. No apologies, I am fussy with curry restaurants because I love curry, I want a good local curry house and so far Roobroo has not let me down.

Ate here with friends on a Saturday evening and we really enjoyed our meal. The service was very attentive and efficient and the food was delicious.

This review of for their stall at the Berkeley show. I ordered two onion bajhis and two samosas. They were really disappointing. The bajhis were the size golf balls with no lemon or anything with them and I was charged £4. Also the samosas which were £6 for two with a few chickpeas. What a rip off!

Amazing food, something different from the usual Indian restaurant. I recommend the Chefs Special Starter that stood out for me. Reason for 4 stars on Atmosphere is mainly given as we were sat in the window, not the main side room, but that was our choice, due to us liking a lighter view.

I had been there for the first time with my friends. Initially thought it might not be a good restaurant as nobody was there the staff (it was late too, 10Pm). But was amazed with the hospitality of the staff, especially Manoj. He served us a great food on time. I would recommend it for everyone.

Very poor food. I had the lamb shank. Watery gravy lacking flavour. Mushy meat with very little flavour. The kema nan was pretty good, though a bit stingy on the lamb. Won't be returning.

Quiet relaxing atmosphere with great people watching. We sat by the window and watched several folks and their pups walk by. The food was splendid! If you like rice, make sure to order it because it does not come with the meal. Delicious delicious delicious!!!! Kind server, good prices, clean restaurant.

From Oklahoma and visited for lunch while staying at Thornbury Castle and couldn’t have had a better lunch. The chicken tikka masala was INCREDIBLE - fresh, savory, and delicious. Staff was very friendly. The restaurant was cozy, clean, and inviting. Would definitely recommend.

Listed II building, beautiful tableware, are the bonuses of delicious Indian dishes. Parking is difficult.

Received a flyer through the door, never eaten from here before so thought I'd give it a go. Had it delivered, it arrived nice and hot, packaged well, looked presentable and most importantly tasted delicious. Great flavours really enjoyed it. Will definitely recommend and order myself again.

Beautiful fragrant food, spices and flavours are balanced really well. The menu is more limited than some Indian restaurants but the focus is on quality.

This was our third visit and once again was outstanding in every way. Fresh ingredients and excellent service. The starter Tandoori prawns were HUGE and so tasty, as was every dish. We had a takeaway from Roobroo, Thornbury last night. I felt compelled to write this review because the food was outstanding. Hight quality ingredients (which you pay a little extra for) and an amazing balance flavours and spice. Well done.

Really looked forward to this treat last night and was just left a tad disappointed. Most of the food was tepid and just a bit lacklustre.

Gorgeous food here. I had the CHEF SPECIAL CHICKEN SHAHI MURGH MUGHLAI which is a fabulously warming curry (but doesn't blow your head off!) with plenty of sauce. Absolutely delicious and a change from the norm - which i am usually scared to do because I love a Biryani! 😄 The waiters were very attentive and efficient; it was nice and busy so the atmosphere was good. If you want quality food and service come here!

We are never disappointed when we go to Roobroo for a meal. Its fresh and delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit. The best Indian we have been to in the west.

We’ve eaten here once before and really enjoyed the meal, hence why we drove 5 miles to get a takeaway last night. We ordered exactly the same dishes we’ve had before, however they didn’t taste anything like them! In fact, the was no flavour at all, all we could taste was the hot spices and all the sauces were runny. Very disappointed and will never order or visit again.

The two of us had been out in Cardiff and on the way home decided we fancied an Indian. We googled restaurants in Thornbury and Roobroo came up. It was a very good decision to go there we hadn't booked but they swiftly found us a table. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was devine very tasty and hot food. Will deinitely visit again I discovered a lovely dark spicy Rum. Just unfortunate I didn't take cash to have left a gratuity. Thank You ⭐️🍽

Excellent meal, as always. Not the cheapest place to eat but certainly very reasonable at around £30 a head with a couple of drinks.

I’ve had a sit down meal here a few times and it’s been really good, but the takeout I had tonight was disappointing. I didn’t fancy cooking, and nobody else wanted to eat, so I ordered a pilau rice and chicken madras. I collected on time as arranged, and unpacked the containers when I got home. The pilau rice was as expected, but the madras was really watery lacking some heat and a fairly small portion. I ate it, but it was really disappointing, and as this is a treat, I feel badly let down. I’ve only had Indian food from Roobroo, but this has made me think of trying one of the other Indian restaurants in the area for a change. I hope this is just a one off, and should the offerings from the other restaurants not be any good I’ll give them another try.

We had a good meal at this restaurant, during our visit to Thornbury. The owner was very attentive and took extra effort to make us comfortable. Great food and adequate portions. Will go back again.

For what it is, it's a bit overpriced. A lot more pocket friendly options are available nowadays in Bristol

Recently discovered this restaurant. Although the menu is more limited and slightly more expensive than local competitors, you're getting a much better experience. It was delicious and well worth it. Highly recommended and one of the best curries in the area

Another excellent meal at Roobroo for us the best curry option in South Glos - smaller menu that some but good selection & quality is top notch plus friendly and efficient service. The chilli chicken starter is a must & goes great with the onion bhaji

Roobroo is my go-to restaurant in Thornbury. There's a good selection of Indian food and everything I've tried has been delicious.

The food at Roobroo is sublime. The food is freshly cooked to order and the flavours are lovely. We have been there many times but today chose the veg starter platter which was delicious. I tend to go for the vegetarian options and my husband has the meat. He loves the lamb which is incredibly tender. The staff are kind and friendly and the service is excellent. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed. It's our favourite restaurant in Thornbury.

Located towards the top of Thornbury’s High Street, this has quite an attractive interior with much exposed stone walling in evidence, and a fairly concise menu compared to many other Indian restaurants, with no sign of a Patia, which is my normal go-to, for example. We had a few poppadum’s whilst perusing the menu, and the accompanying sauces were a little more imaginative than the usual selection. I opted for the Chicken Tikka Masala, and this was a decent and tasty dish, with tender chunks of chicken and a great flavour to the sauce. An accompanying garlic naan was also particularly good, lovely and tasty, and not at all greasy as can often be the case. Downsides were the temperature, it was really cold in there, to the point that I was tempted to leave my coat on. Perhaps they had some sort of a heating breakdown as there were a couple of portable heaters around, but if that were the case I would have thought there might have been some apology. Service was decent enough on the whole, but we were waiting ages for the bill, despite having asked for it twice. In the end we resorted to getting up and paying on our way out. Overall, lovely food, but they need a few tweaks to the environment and the service.

Found a little gem of an Indian restaurant in Thornbury. On close inspection the menu is way smaller than most Indian restaurants and after eating a fantastic meal I now know why . Everything tasted so fresh . My wife had the butter chicken and I had the lamb Nihari in a rich gravy . The nan breads and sides were superb and the rice was a perfect accompaniment . Would highly recommend and will be back soon .

We came across this lovely authentic Indian restraunt on a recent visit to Thornbury. We hadn’t booked and it was late on a Saturday night but the owner welcomed us warmly and we had a gorgeous meal. Between us we had homemade pops and pickle - never had such tasty and light pops- lamb shank, butter chicken, mushroom rice, tarka daal, garlic and coriander naan and would recommend all of it. Lovely fresh ingredients, excellent service. Would definately eat there again 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This restaurant offers an interesting menu with popular well known dishes and several less well known. We went twice. Once with family and food and choice was very good. The second time we were on our own and the food was not well prepared. This may have been because we ate early in the evening

Kept spamming me with emails and text messages despite multiple requests to stop. Reported them to the ICO and the next email that came had an unsubscribe option. Blocked the phone number used for texts. Had the jalfrezi but the sauce was watery and tasteless. When asked about my food, I mentioned this, but I got a lengthy lecture about curry sauces while my food went cold. Poppadoms came in threes (for four people) but at the price, we opted not to buy an extra lot. Dips were barely enough for more than one spoonful. Overall, won't be going back nor would I recommend. Sorry, but in a small town with three Indian restaurants, you have to do better.

What a gem of a place in Thornbury, we popped in mid week for a casual supper and both myself and my husband were blown away with the service and depth of flavour. This is north Indian cuisine at its finest. We asked the server what he would recommend for the day and both of us were delighted with our delicious food. Lamb shank fell of the bone and melted in the mouth , aubergine dish was perfectly prepared and spiced We will definitely return Thank you Michelle and Steve

We ordered a takeaway from Roobroo for the first time and it was disappointing, compared to our previous dining experience. The food is good quality, however the portions were very small compared to their cost. At nearly £50 for two people, I wouldn’t order from them again.

Well done Roobroo! The service was exceptional and the chef/patron was totally invested in how the service was run. Our beautiful meal was spaced perfectly between courses allowing us to enjoy our evening in a relaxed setting. The very reasonably priced food was exceptional, the portions perfectly proportioned, and a taste sensation. No greasy, oily dishes here, just layer upon layer of beautiful flavours. The patron very kindly provided a gorgeous, authentic Indian pudding ‘on the house’ when he discovered it was a birthday celebration for our daughter. Congratulations on creating a fabulous restaurant and thank you!

Excellent Indian, one of, if not the best I’ve had

We have now visited Roobroo a nunber of times and the food has been exceptional each time. Do not expect the usual greasy dishes served in Pakistan / Bangladesh type restaurants, this is genuine Indian food as would be served in India. Thornbury is very lucky to have this gem.

Truly a North Indian taste Restaurant. Food with rajasthan & Punjabi fusion in taste. If staying in Thornbury must visit Indian restaurant if you like good authentic Indian food. To add on that really good service by staff.

One of the most authentic curry house in the South country! Truly delicious food served with care. Ram is always smiling and happy to cater for traditional Indian cooking as per request. Soothing ambience and great location. Definitely worth trying.

You have not had an Indian until you have had Roobroo. I dont enjoy currys usually as they are too oily and creamy but Roobroo is fine dining. Very fragrant and delicious. Great value for money.

For those who enjoy mainstream lager and 'three trick sauce’ curry this may not be to your preference. More a handmade cask ale, the deft use by a first generation Indian of fresh spices ads aromas, flavours and textures not seen in mainstream curry houses; even the dipping sauces are a wonder. Arrive empty to enjoy the samosas and rice pudding.

We came last Friday for a meal and were very happy with the good service, nice atmosphere and the quality of the food. Not greasy, very tasty North Indian cuisine. The tandoori chicken and vegetarian jalfreze were really nice. As was the traditional rice pudding for desert. Recommended.

Very disappointed. I was looking forward to this all day. Absolutely love chicken tikka masala but this tasted like it was out of a jar. The nann bread and onion Baji was what you would expect and the staff were very friendly but the curry was not what I expected.

Really really good, I have a takeaway from this place twice a month, maybe more but who’s counting. I would say this is a high end Indian and the quality of the delivery is excellent, warm food and on time. The owner is very pleasant and knows me by name which always helps with the hole experience. It is more pricey than your average Indian but for me worth every Penny. An asset to thornbury, keep it up.

We had Sunday lunch at Roobroo and had a great meal. Everything was exquisitely cooked, subtly flavoured and immaculately presented. Very courteous and friendly service too. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Visited the Roobroo to have a meal in the early evening of 13th April. This was the first time ever that we have eaten at this restaurant and we would thoroughly recommend it. Many Indian restaurants have deteriorated since Covid Lockdown. However, the Roobroo is much better than most that you will currently find in the South Gloucestershire area and much further away. The food was exceptional and the quality was particularly good.

My partner and I are foodies! We've tried countless Indians before now and have never tried any as great as Roobroo. All spices are made personally by the owner on a weekly basis.. you couldn't get any fresher than that! Super delicious 😋 We will definitely be back.
