Been here several times and always had a fab meal. Food is beautifully cooked and plentiful. The banquet is extremely good value. Tonight we went for our anniversary and the Owner was incredibly friendly and chatting to us. Even gave us a Kulfi to try which rounded the meal off. Would definitely recommend

Popped into this place while working down in bristol food was good and very clean polite staff the young lad was very welcoming . Only problem. Was the place very hot, no aircon only 1 small potable one and it was probably the hottest day of the year . Will definitely return if in the neighbourhood

Not being funny, I eat in a lot of Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants across the country, but, and a very big but, this is by miles the best I have ever eaten. The guvnor is spot on, interacts with his customers and appreciates that people will spend money in his establishment. The food, well, it’s out of this world. Prawn Puri is delicious, a real sweet/smoky dish, curries are amazing. Every time I eat here, and that’s every time I visit Bristol (at least twice a month) the food is amazing. Thankyou Maharaj. The best lamb briyani I've had so far, the food was so tasty and the delivery was on time. However, I wish the lamb in the briyani were in chunks rather than diced.

I am sure there is no more friendly staff and delicious food in any other Indian restaurant. The portions are very generous, the lamb and chicken so tender they obviously use top quality ingredients, we love our Friday visits there, try it you won't be disappointed.

I arrived early and actually made an effort to walk to this restaurant from my hotel as the reviews were so good. I was greeted by a young gentleman who asked me where I would like to sit. I asked to sit in the window (at a table for four). After five mins settled in an older gentlemen (maybe the boss) came up to me and asked me to move to another table. Let’s not forget, the restaurant had one couple eating at the same time so not busy. The whole time I was in there it was just us so why move me? Food was OK but I can’t understand the high reviews. My vegetable main dish tasted OK but was soft and basically frozen veg. Rice was again OK but as a garlic dish was green. Onion bhaji starer was good and would get a 4/5. I left a decent tip as I didn’t have smaller change. Luckily I am unlikely to be eating there again.

I like the fact as you approach the premises a member of staff is there to open the door and welcome you in. The service doesn't end there it continues until you leave. Such friendly staff. The food was so well presented and tasted so delicious. We ordered the 5 course special. Poppadoms and pickle tray while we chose our starter and main. I ordered chilli Paneer to start. My favourite is a Dhansak and this was just perfect the right amount of heat for me and Pilau rice with a plain nann. This was reasonably priced at £17 and needless to say I took some home the portions were very generous. Really enjoyed my midweek curry and catching with my friend in such a friendly restaurant.

Visited this restaurant this evening with relations from Idaho state USA, absolutely lovely evening enjoying the delicious food served in the Maharaj Indian food restaurant. I would recommend this to all of my friends and relations to go along and enjoy some good Indian food! Very pleasant and helpful staff, service was excellent 👌

The food that I ordered through just east was delivered cold & it tasted horrible. When I complained, they never accepted their mistake & blamed it on me.

Amazing food, amazing staff. We were welcomed into this small but very friendly restaurant. Service was quick and attentive. We (married couple) were really impressed with the good food here and an excellent bottle of Puglian wine. I particularly liked the way they cooked the Sag Paneer and the lamb in the garlic chilli masala was good. Good value for money. We walked there but I suspect parking could be an issue.

Been for about 5 curries here and all have been outstanding. It is the best curry house around having tried a few different ones in the area. The chicken in particular is such high quality. Personal favourites are the naga masala and the nargis, the mushroom and special rices are also really good. Staff is also lovely there and they create a nice atmosphere.

Held a leaving party here for a colleague, what a good choice. The restaurant were really accommodating, even though we had to cut numbers from 20 to 15. Food was excellent, favourites on our table were the Chicken Madras, Chicken Monchurri and the Vegetable Biryiani. Waiters couldn't do enough for us, so helpful and polite and ready to accommodate any request. Good value for money. Would definitely organise an event here again, or just come for a night out with the Fam.

This is an absolute gem of a curry house! From the very start, we were welcomed into the restaurant by very pleasant and personable staff, who showed us to our table. They explained the 5 course offer which they do on set evenings throughout the week. Drinks delivered and starter orders taken. Throughout the visit we were regularly asked for another drink. The food was extremely fresh and very well presented. The decor was eclectic, but I think that added more character and charm to the place. Would definitely visit again when I’m local to the area. 5 stars!! xxxxx

Ordered a takeaway for collection from their website. Food was ready at the time advised and it was easy to park in the nearby carpark. Staff were friendly and fast, holding the door for me on my way out. Food was still a good temperature when I got home and really tasty. Good portion sizes. Spicy heat of the medium chicken balti was spot on, having a reasonably good kick without being overpowering. We chose Maharaji because it's close to home, had an excellent food hygiene rating, and good choices on the menu. We were not disappointed and will be back!

I wont use them again my food yesterday as per takeaway was ordering at the restaurant I have ask Roti got to soft but when I received my order was Roti was Roasted and burnt and sage panner was like a rubber Dal was absolutely wasted Food was absolutely I did had food from b4 was good . Long time ago. made a call to the owner his replay was I can send u replace Roti !!! Which is out of order!!! & that’s way I don’t like to serve Indian people which is I take this is very serious matter!!!!!, I only like to serve English!!!!! Now I m taking this matter very very seriously !!! As per Discrimination!!!!

We are staying in a local hotel and searched for an Indian restaurant, we went to this one because of the positive reviews. It did not disappoint, food and the service was excellent. We went for the special offer and we all enjoyed our meals. Very friendly staff who can’t do enough for you. We would highly recommend the restaurant, unfortunately we won’t be able to visit again as we are from Birmingham.

Well spaced tables, the chicken tastes like chicken and the lamb tastes like lamb. Not rubbery like some places. Quality nann. Friendly service. Plenty of parking in nearby off roads. A good experience.

Disgusting place avoid at all cost drivers very unprofessional smoking cannabis in the car whilst delivering food very unprofessional the way they handled the service !!! When I called and spoke to manager he was screaming down the phone telling me he hired these guys for 5 years and they’re allowed to smoke cigarettes in the car!!! What whilst delivering food !!! How can he be there for 5 years when he was learning on the phone to me getting told what is right and wrong ! Then sent him out for delivery for me to experience this poor service vile 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Enjoyed our takeaway a lot - only problem was it we had to wait about 30 mins after our scheduled collection time. Clearly very popular on a Friday night but a bit annoying to stand around. I was offered a drink though!

Dinner for 6 on a Monday night while away with work. No need to book. The food was excellent. Service was good - food took a while to come out but we weren't in a rush. Really friendly staff. Would recommend and come back again if I'm the area.

This is one of the nicest Indian restaurants I have been to. The staff are friendly and inviting without being in your face. There’s a good menu with a very good selection of authentic Indian meals. There’s a relaxed atmosphere too and we really enjoy ourselves every time we eat there. I’d highly recommend it.

Popped in for a nice dinner with a hungry stomach and after really a looong drive. Order few starters - puri Chicken chat was good meanwhile lamb chops were not so great ordered two portions and didn’t even touched another. Chilli chicken & chicken Manchuria tasted good. Chicken tikka was a bit dry, tandoori was dry & kinda over cooked. However, service was great, a big thumbs up for that. I should’ve addressed this issue a bit early but we didn’t had much time to address/argue about the issue there. Thank you.

Staff were incredibly friendly and engaging with my friend and I, great service. First time I had tried this restaurant. The food was so tasty, I had my usual Dhansak and this was spot on with flavour. Very reasonable there was an offer on the day we visited.

Ordered a takeaway for me and a couple of mates but the dishes were stacked so high that the top dishes collapsed into my curry at the bottom, spilling it into the bag, meaning it was unsalvageable and caused so much mess when dishing up the other items as everything was covered! They also didn’t send my saag paneer so I had a disappointing meal of rice and samosas in the end. Won’t be using again.

Honestly the best restaurant me and my fiancé go to! We have been a number of times now and always enjoy the experience. The service is impeccable and we are always greeted by lovely people. They take a lot of time in ensuring the food is great, and it really shows in the quality. We will continue to come to this restaurant. And always leave with full bellies.

First time I had a takeaway from here...easy to order on phone..food pretty good and reasonably priced.. sadly the aloo Gobi was more aloo aloo..no cauliflower to speak of except for a very chewy stalk! Otherwise very tasty..we'd use them again 🙂

tried this place for the first time because the Google reviews scored high. can't understand why they are! poppadoms and sides weren't good. onion bhaji was dry. only had beverages in bottles, nothing on tap. Madras was bizarrely sweet, but otherwise untasty, not at all how a Madras should taste. but it was cute they wrote "Madras" on the side of the plate in a glossy pink sauce. all the decor is very low effort. the disco light in the toilets was an interesting touch.

Just moved to Bristol, so we wanted to try out a new restaurant and what a find Maharaj is! Brilliant service from Fez and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be back so a big thank you to the team.

I rang to order takeaway and the man i spoke to was so friendly kind etc He also delivered and my daughter gave me a £50 note to pay with because she is going on holiday and had spending money. The delivery man was very nice and i ran off to get £20 note instead. I needed some change but he had none so I was happy to have a credit note which he ssid his restaurant woukd remember. But with so many staff there I guessed I asked for the credit to be written down in case he wasnt there next time! Given how patient, polite he was I regret asking for the receipt because I realise he might be one of the bosses and the company serms very trustworthy. Guess I have had deliveries from other company who was less honest. Delicious food. Fast delivery. Very polite. Near me. Glad I found it.

Edit and update: The amount of time you spend on replying to negative reviews and justifying could be spent on improving food quality. If you focus on improving food, you will not have to spend time addressing negative reviews. Had a very disappointing experience. Only mango lassi tasted good and one star for the staff as they were helpful and heard the feedback. They also gave option to replace or change the dish but it already was late for me. Service was a bit slow, samosa was just manageable but Paneer Makhni was really bad. It tasted sweet and first time I saw paneer makhni being made with coconut milk or extract. It was a big big turn off. If you are used to Indian style of cooki, avoid this place. If you are there then share expectations before ordering to know what you could order

The best curry I have had. Had an amazing starter, (chicken 65) a great main course and a naan bread that was so light. Great place. And the nicest staff.

Date night couldn’t of gone any better! Food was amazing and huge portions! staff were warm, friendly and very attentive. It’s definitely got a nice traditional vibe to the restaurant. They let me try a sauce from the specials and I can definitely say I’ll be ordering it next time! Thank you team Maharaj!

Amazing food , I’ve been eating Indian food for 30 + years and this place is awesome better than so called upmarket restaurants I’ve tried , stumbled upon it while working away from home and decided to eat here every day for a week , can’t say enough good things snd the service is fantastic very friendly , very happy customer.

Really surprised by the reviews on this as not my experience at all. Generally bland. Rezala sauce was very bland but with chunks of hot green chills clearly not cooked in the sauce. Lamb shank was replaced with lamb chop without asking. Garlic naan and dhal also lacking in any real flavour. Positives: it was a delivery and arrived piping hot and not at all greasy.

Nice cosy atmosphere, great food! Fantastic service and always kind helpfull staff at hand. Mahraj is a must if you're ever in Bristol to eat in or take out!

We stumbled across this hidden gem when hosting a gathering and have since lost count how many times we have ordered from Maharaj, no matter how large or small the order every time the food has been fantastic, superb flavours and not swimming in ghee. The staff are very friendly the restaurant is welcoming although we haven't yet to 'dine-in' it's high on our list of places to eat. We have even had friends leave at the end of the evening wanting to take the menu. I can not recommend the Maharaj enough.

The food is delicious (highly recommend the paneer tikka starter!), the guys who run the place are absolutely lovely, and the restaurant is really homely. Felt really welcome, and will definitely return :)

One of favourite curries I’ve ever had and the best service too

Delivery took over 2 hours, the food we ordered had items missing, they had the cheek to ask us and come and collect the missing items, because that's exactly why you order a delivery. The vegetable biryani barely had any vegetables, a couple of peas and carrots and a couple of bits of potatoes, the vegetable rice was identical, literally no difference in flavour or look. The dhansak was ok, nothing to write home about. Bhagi was deep fried beyond recognition also had bits of tomato in it?? The hair was a nice surprise, but I'm sure the restaurant will say its ginger, but with the texture of a hassian sack we're doubtful of that excuse. Clearly they can do nice food from looking at the other pictures and reviews, shame they're not consistent.

Delivery - 50mins late, Missing items which we were told we could come and collect, bhaji was burnt, food was cold, greasy and bland. Biryani was missing the curry, and there was no difference in the vegetable Biryani and the vegetable rice. Onion salad also missing, and the icing on the top was finding a hair. Absolutely shocking, restaurant offered discount next visit, I'd never go back there.

We’d come over to Bristol for a football match during the festive period and stumbled upon this gem while looking for Indian cuisine on Google. The food was absolutely outstanding, all 6 of us had different meals and all 6 had no no complaints. But what made the place stand out was the service, particularly the young guy who took his time to make us feel extremely welcome and go above and beyond what we’d expect. Unfortunately we don’t live closer otherwise we’d be there each week, but will definitely visit again the next time we return.

First visit to here today (will be back again) we are from Liverpool and came to visit family, seen the excellent reviews and they were all righr! The staff are amazing, neeysa (sorry if spelt wrong) couldn't do enough for us, hes a credit to the Maharaj, the owner was amazing also even helped us get home due to no taxis in the area, the food was superb and will probably ruin all other curries in comparison for me now, it was that good!! Next time we're in the area we know where we will be going. Thank you for making a great night even better with excellent food and excellent service.

We were attending a family party in the area and attended here for dinner on a saturday night, the service and food was amazing and staff couldn't do enough for us, Neeysa & Varnesh ( sorry if spelt wrong ) was a credit to the place very attentive and excellent service the whole staff were excellent, the owner even helped us get back to our hotel when we struggled sourcing a cab ourselves, this place has probably ruined other curries in comparison it was that nice, best Jalfrezi I've ever had by far! We will definitely return when back in Bristol and would recommend this place as the go to place when you fancy a curry! 5 stars really isn't enough to rate this place it made a great night even better.

Such a lovely restaurant with an excellent menu which contains the traditional dishes as well as several unique options. The restaurant is well decorated, service is impeccable and the food is gorgeous.
